What a memorable experience! Bookings are easy, communications prior to the flight are plentiful, meeting place is easy to find, and parking is plentiful. We went on a sunrise flight. There were a number of other balloons going up so it added to the photo opp. Our pilot was professional and knowledgeable. It was interesting seeing the balloon prepared before and after the flight. I don't know that I would call the food served after the flight as 'gourmet' but it was nice to be outside enjoying the desert area while we ate. read more

We decided to do something unexpected and booked a sun rise hot air balloon. I'm so happy we did! We got to the site (via van with other balloon passengers) in time to see our balloon be blown up. Our pilot was Don and he was great! So personable and telling us all about Phoenix and his balloon excursions. The balloon ride itself was so smooth. Once we landed, we got breakfast and champagne. Everything went smoothly from beginning to end! Nick our driver was friendly and accommodating. Mike our pilot was so personable and willing to answer any questions asked by the group. We we're unable to experience the balloon due to poor weather conditions, this was a disappointment to us since other balloons in the area were taking off. The company hauled us to the desert knowing we weren't going to take off. The baskets were not even unloaded off the trucks, gives the impression they knew they were not going to take us up. So really just wasting our entire morning. The staff was also not overly friendly upon arrival to the airport location either. Over all not impressed with their customer service. read more

Five stars all the way!!! Highly recommend this company and spending the money on this experience while in town. We absolutely loved the Crew, how organized it was, the communication, the location for meet up, and the light meal on the desert. In fact the table they set up at the end with champagne and little bites was just as fun as the balloon ride itself! Such a treat! Just remember to layer because it's possible at times you will be hot in the balloon ride and later that night be cold. We thought we would be cold up high in the air and we weren't at all. We went in November. Also we learned morning balloon rides are least likely to get canceled due to weather conditions if that's a concern (like you are doing it on your last day in town) Background info- We had booked with a smaller balloon company the day before. Our ride got canceled and so we had to change balloon companies. Everything went very smoothly with our balloon ride. We're locals, so we just drove to Deer Valley Airport, got checked in, and the Hot Air Expedition van driver took us to our launch site off the Carefree Highway. Lots of balloons that day. We had a huge basket that held 20 passengers. Captain Bill gave us a smooth, pleasant flight, ensuring our safety, and pointing out the unique features of the Sonoran Desert as we flew. Landing was super smooth, followed by a catered breakfast, and plenty of bubbly. And shared a cake with those celebrating special occasions. A good experience. It was very hot in Phoenix despite it being a sunrise balloon ride. Keep in mind, it should be known that you were actually not in the hot air balloon while the sun rises. You were out and ready and waiting and watching the crew set up the balloon which is cool to see while the sun is rising over the mountains in the distance. The pilot had over 40 years experience. He had a lot of good information to share as did the chase car driver. I found everyone very friendly and professional. The hot air ballon is an experience I recommend to anyone to try. The breakfast was a nice champagne breakfast with food that is pictured. You get to pay $10 extra if you want to keep assuming your glasses that I took a picture and am posting. read more

One of the most unforgettable experiences - it was really a great time from start to finish! The crew is super professional and once you're up in the air, you get to experience how peaceful it is high up over the Phoenix/Mesa area. The captain was very entertaining the whole time and was able to reposition the balloon constantly so everyone had a chance to see all parts of the landscape. Incredible experience! I had never been on a hot air balloon ride before, and I could not have asked for a better first experience. We surprised my sister with a hot air balloon ride for her 30th birthday, and Hot Air Expeditions delivered! Our shuttle driver (to the site of take off) was Mike, and he was fantastic. He was very friendly and personable, and answered all of the random questions we had about ballooning. Our pilot was Kasey, and he was equally awesome! He ensured that everyone knew what to expect, pointed out a bunch of wild burros in the desert below us, and took us up to 3,000'+ for amazing views of Lake Pleasant. The balloon baskets were surprisingly comfortable and allowed for plenty of standing room. We had 13 people on our flight, and each group had their own "quarter" of the basket (one group per corner). After the experience, we enjoyed champagne, brunch, and received cute certificates. Since it was my sister's birthday, the crew made her feel special with a "happy birthday" banner, cake, and gifted her the champagne cork! Every communication I had with them was friendly and they make a big deal out of celebrations! My husband and I celebrated our anniversary and they provided a banner for pics and celebration cake! We went on an evening expedition. The weather was lovely, our pilot was engaging and amusing. It was much more quite and peaceful than I had anticipated it would be. The only problem is that we gave credit card info when we booked (my dad's...it was a gift to three of us) so we were under the assumption that the excursion was paid for. Luckily we all decided to bring our personal items with us on the balloon...because when we landed we were each called over and asked to pay, that the payment info given before the flight was just a placeholder (but then....why were we the only 3 called over to pay...?) A minor inconvenience and a surprise $150 each of us had not been expecting to pay. But the actual flight/balloon ride was wonderful! read more

For my very first experience this was completely disappointing. The check in was fine as was the driver but when we arrived on site we were the last balloon to take off and we literally just hovered a few hundred feet above for 45 minutes. The pilot Don was non conversational and kept saying the wind the wind isn't cooperating but every other balloon and there were six of them didn't have that issue just us. We all looked at each other stunned that he kept bringing us almost all the way down then back up again in the same spot. We missed the sunrise and literally landed before every other balloon. Then he made a comment that and said i hate unplanned rides which gave us the impression he did it on purpose. Not to mention he kept asking for gratuity! For what!! The loss of 200 bucks? No thank you. I'll never book with them again they need to reevaluate their pilots and their behaviors. Epic fail to our trip. read more

Wow, I tried to purchase a Gift Certificate for my mother's 80th birthday over the phone from Hot Air Expedition and they would not take it because EVERYTHING must be done Online...have to have an email account... As a society are we really losing that personal touch..Not all people have access to WiFi or Do Not want to plug personal info into electronic devices. All I can say is wow! This is something that has been on my bucket-list forever and captain Mike and Marcus made the experience unforgettable. We booked a private basket, being a little wary of sharing a basket during because of COVID. We were shuttled in our own private van to the hot air balloon site and did not have to wait long for our balloon to be inflated. Marcus and Mike were very friendly and welcoming; they explained all the procedures and precautions. Before we knew it we were up in the air taking in all of the breath taking views. 2nd time for me in a hot air balloon and first wifey.. The crew we had where actually extremely efficient, fast and funny (Al you need to get some more jokes for the bus)... Pilot Bill with ground crew being Al and Jo. Anyhow, we went in a monster balloon holding a max of 14 people and swept gracefully across the desert. We were disappointed. First of all the breakfast is a waste of time, and honestly the breakfast was marginal at the most. (If Vincents on Camelback catered it, we definitely will not be going to that establishment). (I did not get to experience anything with this company other than how they handled this reservation) I traveled to Phoenix for my birthday for this experience only to find out the day before that it's cancelled. To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement but the lack of empathy and care that I felt from the staff spoke volumes. I asked about the possibility of a sunset ride and they don't start until November. When my ride was scheduled for the October 30th. In the future I would advise increasing communications with people who sign up for these experiences so they can be updated on what's happening and know that there may be a possibility of cancellation due to the weather if you guys are monitoring the conditions that closely. I received a confirmation text on the 28th and cancellation on the 29th. Would've loved to experience this... would've loved better communication even more. read more

My husband made reservations for 10/20/2019 for an AM Hot Air Balloon Expedition for our 10 year wedding anniversary. The whole experience was absolutely amazing. Beware What can I say I asked for their certificate of insurance could not produce it. One of the employees states what does it matter you waived all your rights when you signed your form, wouldn't give a refund even if you don't sign the form which specifically states you are not forced to sign. What kind of business that operates a mode of transportation that has a FAA number on their vessel should be required by law to carry and produce on demand their liability insurance. Big time red flags with this company. I would suggest doing some research before wasting your hard earned money on this excursion.
