Mold. Have been to hot bagel a ton. The one off 59th and the 101 was always great. Something was lost at this one and I've always thought it was definitely lower quality to that one. However, it was still pretty good. Recently though the quality has dropped and on my most recent visit we found mold in our sandwich. Needed to grab a quick breakfast and this spot was nearby so I headed over here. I found it pretty easily due to the number of cars parked outside of it in the early morning. Thankfully it wasn't busy when I walked in and I ordered an everything bagel with jalapeño cream cheese. It was ready in a few minutes and I was on my way. Plenty of cream cheese and the bagel itself was toasted and a good size. The cream cheese had large chunks of jalapeños in it, which was a nice surprise. They have a fairly big menu with egg sandwiches, hot sandwiches, burritos, pastries, and they also sell different types of meat, cream cheese, cheese, and salad by the pound. A bit pricey but probably comparable to other bagel shops. There was seating inside as well as outdoor seating that a group was using. Hot Bagels & Deli has NY style bagels and a NY style attitude. I came in for a quick in n out bite. Unfortunately I waited at the counter for over 5 minutes without acknowledgment. I nearly walked out but the egg bagels looked so good. The store reminded me of home in NY- old looking but fresh smelling. The bagel itself was one of the best I've had in AZ. What a great place! I just tried it this morning and I'm very impressed! I used to go to Einstein's but the new ones don't have onion and garlic bagels....WTF! Do NOT eat here if cleanliness or sanitary is a priority for your food preparation. the lady at the register had me questioning whether or not I actually wanted to continue with my order as she not only pulled at her bottom lip while taking my order but also dug in deep into her ear that must have really itched. I told myself there was no way she'd be the one making my sandwich.... wrong. she was. she did put ONE glove on her unwashed hand. I should have said something but still didn't. she wasn't touching any part of my sandwich with her bare hand until she did pull apart the cheese with one gloved hand and her other hand that didn't have a glove and may have been the same fingers that had just been pulling at her lip and digging in her ear. I will never go back as this is the second time I've dealt with unsanitary handling like this. the other time the man kept touching his face and beard as he made my sandwich. This is a small shop that almost always has folks inside, either waiting on an order or enjoying something from the menu. You can pick up bagels in a good variety of flavors as well as have them concoct something in a sandwich form with various ingredients. Toasted or not, with a nice choice of creme cheeses to suit your taste. Other menu options are available including regular sandwiches, hot sandwiches, breakfast burritos, gyros, etc. And bagel dogs! Hot dog wrapped in a bagel. Amazing. Just that alone is worth a visit. There is also a small, decent selection of coffee as well, all either to-go or to enjoy there. Service is relatively decent if somewhat no-nonsense. Usually the staff is friendly but sometimes also noncommittal. It just depends. And, to me, it doesn't matter so much since I'm usually in and out and just want my order in a timely manner, which I generally get. I think the prices are reasonable given that the portion sizes for the bagel sandwiches, which I usually get, are pretty generous in my opinion. Woke up one morning and wanted to eat bagel and lox for breakfast so found this place here on Yelp. Reviews from other Yelpers looked promising so decided to go. This place is in a shopping plaza area with lots of parking but multiple businesses there make the parking lot a tad bit congested. It's a mom and pop type of small/medium deli that sells hot and cold sandwiches along with a vast assortment of bagels. Many other menu items that are all standard deli food items. Cheese and meats for sandwiches are sold by the pound here. There is a self serve soda fountain as well as a coffee station in the dining area. There is a selection of bottled drinks as well in the upright cooler display. Tables and chairs that appear to have maybe a 25 person seating limit. The vibe here is quaint and friendly. I ordered an onion bagel with lox that included onion, tomato, smoked salmon, cream cheese, and capers. All typical ingredients and the bagel was a very good size, not a tiny portion. The smoked salmon was a generous size and NOT a regular sliver piece, I got thick layers of it in mine. I also ordered a grilled cheese with tomato and onion added. This was a to go order. Waited less than 10 minutes and my food was ready. It was fairly busy when I arrived as it was around brunch time so not too bad of a wait. The taste was superb for both items and very filling. The price was on the higher end of what you'd pay for at other places for the same thing but I won't gripe about it because all the ingredients were fresh and my entire order was well made. I'm more than happy to pay more if the end result is yummy delicious. I'd like to mention that my to go order was carefully packed. My bagel and lox was carefully plastic wrapped so it did not come apart when I got home. My grilled cheese was double aluminum foil wrapped to keep it warm. Little things like these are very comforting to know that attention to detail is practiced at this deli. This says a lot about their service and food handling. You can trust this place. I will be coming back to this place and you should give it a try. Support local businesses and come eat here. Places like this deserve to be patronized, good food and great service. read more

I enjoy food from two of their locations the one at 59th Ave & Behrend & the one at Carefree HWY & the I-17. Both locations are small with limited seating but usually we can get a table as most people grab their food and go. My favorite meal is the Cheeseburger on Sourdough bread. This place is quick and delicious! I got an onion bacon, egg, and cheese bagel and added sausage. It was super good and they made my egg medium like I asked (their normal is over hard). They have a good selection of quick and easy fast pastries, cold and hot sandwiches and of course a huge selection of bagels and cream cheese! Their prices are very reasonable, only $1.50 upcharge for extra meat, which to me is extremely reasonable. My husband got an everything bagel with sausage, egg, and cheese, and a cinnamon raisin with cream cheese. If you're an avid cream cheese lover they will hook you up, very generous. Not the vibe you are used to at the other locations. Customers seem to be an inconvenience each time I come in. They have chosen to leave up their extra large plexiglass divider which kind of summarizes the feeling and the establishment. Many of the people can't hear through the plexiglass because the staff mumbles and seems oblivious that it's difficult to communicate through the glass. When you're in there watch how many people try to talk around the glass and it's an obvious inconvenience. The food is not the same quality as the other locations. read more

Like they'll purposely mess up your order if you have to repeat yourself or you ask what bakery goods (ex: such as croissants, cinnamon buns, or cookies) are left when calling an order in. The men who work there are so much nicer than the women who work there! I'm from Philly so I know when somebody's skimping me on my pork roll, they should not be charging $1.25 extra to add bacon to your bagel.
