I'm from the east coast and getting a decent bagel has required a drive across town and even then the bagels have been just okay. I tried Hot Bagels & Deli for the first time yesterday. Walking in it had that familiar ambiance I grew up with so hopes were high. Decided to stop here for some late breakfast on the way from PHX to Flagstaff. Ordered online for egg and cheese breakfast bagels. You can tell bagels are homemade by the uniqueness of the bread. Being vegetarian, there's only so much we can do and cheese plays a vital role in flavor. The bagel itself was not very flavorful and was a little dry/tough but the egg was fresh and everything was hot. Could have used two slices of cheese to balance bread ratio. They never have more than 20% of their bagel flavors by noon. They don't make more because they make them the day before. The employee was rude when I asked about the Asiago. It was as if I was crazy for thinking their menu would still be available. I ordered a spinach bagel (one of 4 options) and instead I got a cinnamon bagel with chive cream cheese. I didn't want to call because I was mad but my wife insisted we get a refund. When I called for my refund I commented on the lack of bagel flavors and the employee told me they make them the day before. I asked why they don't make more since they are always running out.
