Check your receipts!! They like to make up their own prices when it comes time to pay. We ordered two bacon egg and cheese and one single bagel with cream cheese. They overcharged us and when we asked why the prices were different, he said it was easier to do it "this way" instead of just changing it for us, and charging us for the correct items. Also took about 5 minutes for someone to come take our order. Empty at 8 am on a Wednesday, now we know why. read more

On our way to a baseball game in Surprise and needed a quick breakfast: bagels were on the menu for breakfast! We wanted you to go to an independent bagel spot (Einstein was around the corner). The criteria was that the place had to have fresh bagels, Liz and salmon spread! This place claimed they had it all plus NU bagels; that's a tall order! We felt the bagels were good. Egg sandwich seemed weak; eggs did not have a lot of taste and just came with unmelted cheese. My lox bagel was not toasted. Sandwich were a little pricey. Ambiance was lacking. Inside pretty blah. I would come here over Einstein bagels over and over a million times. Their bagels are great with flavor - not greasy. The bialys bagel is my fav!! Plus la Michoacána next door is the best dessert. Great first visit! Fiancé took me here on a random day and called it a hidden gem. I agree with him! This place is tucked away right in a corner of a plaza so I'm sure it'll be easy to miss. We came in a little after 1pm so obviously majority of the bagels were already sold out but the plain and sea salt bagels were amazing! Everything tasted great. Afer Hearing about the Surprise location after we moved from Surprise back to Phoenix. Rude, rude, rude!!! Avoid at all cost! We would give them zero stars if we could. We were with the older gentleman Johnny mentioned below who was mistreated. The owner was rude and we will not be back. We called our order in and when we arrived it was not ready. He brushed us off and said "that was a while ago!" He knew we would be later as we accidentally ordered at the other location. When he finally fulfilled our order, he shorted us a bagel and insisted there were 12 when there were only 11. He also didn't even give us the bagels we asked for. He was rude and treated us as if we were inconveniencing him. We will stick with the 59th and 101 Hot Bagels location from now on. read more

While the food at Hot Bagels & Deli in Surprise is admittedly good, the service at this location is absolutely unacceptable. I witnessed the cashier--who I believe may also be the owner--speak harshly to an older gentleman who was politely asking about his order. His exact words were, "Speak up, talk louder next time, sht."* I was stunned and genuinely felt awful for the man. I've been to their Glendale location, and the experience there is completely different--staff are friendly, respectful, and welcoming. Unfortunately, the man working the register at the Surprise location (possibly European or Middle Eastern) has zero customer service skills and is consistently rude. After reading another review mentioning this same behavior, it's clear this wasn't a one-off. If you can't treat customers with basic courtesy, you shouldn't be working the register--or in any customer-facing role at all. I won't be coming back to this location. read more

We like the other Hot Bagels & Deli stores we have visited in the Valley and this one was probably the most lackluster one. The everything bagel with butter was so-so, not really chewy at all and bland. The bialy is definitely not one that I am used to from NYC. This location does not have chorizo, so my partner got a breakfast burrito with bacon. He said it was nothing to write home about. Coffee was decent, however, by 7am, all the coffee was empty from the coffee dispenser. We will likely still go to the other locations, but we may skip this one in the future. read more

I came here with my mom today. We used to come here all the time when I was younger and I decided that I missed their food, especially the potatoes. When we ordered our food, we noticed that the prices had jumped very high. But alright, we thought it was a small business that was struggling to stay open. When we were done eating our food, I got up to get two boxes. I asked the man (husband?) for a box. Mind you, I am deaf so I gestured "box". He came back with one box and I was like, "oh! Can I actually get another one?" So he looked at my mom who was finishing up her meal. I thought she was taking some food home. He saw that she had very little on her plate. He shrugged and made a face as if he was thinking something like, "why do you need another box? She's clearly done eating" or "she has very little food on her plate. This was as bad an experience as I have had in a restaurant. The restaurant was dirty, the staff was moderately helpful and the food was awful. I had a sandwich served on a hoagie roll and the roll was dry, cold, and had a consistency I had never experienced before. My wife had a Ruben and it was inedible. Ugh. Can I just start this review by saying, I'd much rather come to Yelp to praise a business, especially a small business than to say negative things. But I really have to share and spare whomever needs to hear this from the blatantly dismal customer service I received just a few short hours ago. This review is for the Bell Road, Surprise location. I was excited to see a NY bagel deli because I'm from back east. I go in, one couple was waiting, another sitting and waiting for order to be up and a lone gentleman sitting and waiting for his to go order. From the accent, I'm guessing the couple behind the counter were Polish or of some other Euro-descent. There was an older woman making food alone. Several minutes later an older man comes from the back. He says hello to the couple before me and takes their order. It is my turn. He looks at me and I AM THE ONE WHO GREETS HIM WITH GOOD MORNING after the awkward pause for him to even say hello. That's #1. Then I give my order - bacon, egg and cheese sandwich. And I say I also want 6 bagels. Still trying to be chipper hoping some of it rubs off but I already know that they've judged and dislike the likes of me for one of any number of reasons judgmental people unfairly judge others - my brown skin? long locs? tattoos? Wait, maybe it was my big smile with a mouthful of straight, clean teeth aimed rudely their way? Since I'm no mind reader, I'm not going to call out what I suspect is the true issue. Onward with the experience. Man bags the bagels. Puts them on the counter. I also ordered coffee. It was about 9am. He runs my card. I tip him $5. The old woman behind the counter greets yet another customer and asks if she can help her. I tip them because I'm not a d**k and I want to see if this matters. Nope. He mumbles a 'thank you.' I go over to retrieve my coffee and there is none. 4 of those tall coffee tumblers and they are all empty. So I go tell the man and he slowly and without apology (#2)goes to make the coffee. After looking into the coffee receptacle several times as if deciding if whatever he sees in there needs cleaning (?), he takes it to the back briefly. I dunno. So I sit and wait. The woman calls out my order and goes back to what she was doing. With other customers, she waited and thanked them. (#3) When the coffee was done, the man was in the back and I went up to the woman and say, "the coffee is done, would you like me to get it myself?" meaning should I close the top since it's done brewing and help myself or wait for them to do it. She looks at me expressionless and then with a slight wrinkle to her brow (I'm observing her behavior very carefully at this point wanting to give her one last chance to be kind), she turns her back to me and says mostly intelligibly with an unnecessary foul attitude, to wait a few minutes and that she will get to it. And I could see she was avoiding looking at me in the eye as much as possible. (#4). Then the man came back out and closed the lid and made an attempt at a joke that was a little too late and very low that I couldn't hear all he said but sounded something like, "we will do it just this once. Next time it's up to you." With a half-smile. So I think he realized that the woman was unnecessarily harsh. But I can tell you that witnessing both him and her greet people around me and tell them to have a nice day when leaving tells me that the issue for some odd reason was with me. This review is NOT on the food, because despite dropping nearly $30 including tip, I refuse to eat the food made with hateful energy. So I have thrown the food, coffee (cause I just read that another Yelper thought it made her sick and that would explain my thoughts about checking/double-checking the inside of the canister) and bagels have all been thrown in the garbage. And I can most certainly and with conviction share with you, dear readers, that I WILL NEVER SPEND A DIME AT THIS OR ANY OF THEIR OTHER LOCATIONS. Final note: another Yelper, Chase, mentioned that they were extremely rude to him. And he does not share my skin tone so I'm not sure what triggers poor service. As readers of reviews, we never know what customers behavior or speech may trigger people who work at any of these establishments, but I can speak for myself and say that I smiled and greeted them with an audible 'good morning'. Even shared a brief, positive convo with a couple of other couples while I waited so twas not me with the bad attitude, Yelpers. Sad and disappointing experience but I refuse to let them or any other miserable people spoil a beautiful Tuesday! Onward and upward. read more

You get some real good food. The food memories bring back times when I visited New York. Their version of a "big breakfast," will quench even a growing teenagers tastes and leave them full. The bacon, what's not to love. The eggs n bacon meal has home cooked potatoes that were always perfect paired with your choice of bagel. What's not to love? It's supporting local that matters. Here in the Sun City area so many big chains are around. This bakery is a proud badge to the community in a sea of corporate world all around, but still the little place is around. Bagelry I am a native new Yorker, now living in Arizona. I grew up starting my day with a roll and butter or bagel. I know what you're thinking, the same thought I had, simply Finding a great bagel shop in Arizona can be a challenge. . Finding an ordinary bagel is easy regardless of where you live. Finding a great bagel that's boiled, baked, and given a generous smear of butter or cream cheese is tough in these parts, that is until I found Hot Bagel and Deli. The bagels at Hot Bagels and Deli are delicious. My favorite are the everything, onion, garlic or salt. These bagels are everything a bagel should be. The bagels are crispy, chewy, garlicy oniony, salty perfection. The breakfast sandwiches are incredible but I'm looking forward to trying the lunch sandwich, especially after I found out that hot bagels and deli uses Boars Head cold cuts. came up to this place, usually get hot bagel at other locations and it's a great place to eat with quick and kind customer service. THIS was not the case. we walk in, my sister and mom order. i asked for the sausage egg and cheese sandwich, i love veggies so i asked for green pepper, grilled onions, lettuce, tomatoe, and asked if they had any other vegetables to add to it. the guys says "what do you think i'm fry's or something" as if he were the grocery store?? i do the same thing at any other location no problem but the husband of the couple running this place is extremely rude. as i walk to the bathroom, my mom asks him where he's from, and he says what do you mean where im from, and he says he's from new york. we guess he's got a european background from his accent and speaking different language. we are also european and know how to handle blunt and rude people but this guy has no filter and he's got no chill. like come on be friendly and pleasant to talk to, why are you running a restaurant if you hate customer service??? food was good i wont lie, but maybe because we were starving. read more

Ordered a toasted jalapeño bagel with plain cream cheese. you'd think it'd be a simple order. The bagel was not toasted, yet hot and made the cream cheese drip out everywhere. Totally love this place but it seems the owners are in over their head. When I first started going there they don't seem to know math very good. They used to have a regular register and obviously it's what they were used to but they struggled to give me the right change. So if you don't speak up about it they will finesse you and take your money. They have quality food and bagels but if you get a different price or different result each time, means they lack quality control. They haven't been very friendly the year I've been going there and I only continue to go to support local instead of their competitor Einstein Bagels. Recently they've switched over to a POS system that should tell you the total and exact change to give back and the wife and husband still seem to struggle to get the customer the right amount of change.. it's sad as a customer you have to tell them what your change should be and I still didn't get the full amount of change. Like I mentioned it's an amazing place for bagels but they lack consistency and overall qualities that you'd look for in a deli. Just doesn't seem like this is their passion and it's just to make their money. And if they're taking your money, they're doing a pretty good job at it! Could be the English Barrier they are having trouble with but they can definitely try to listen to their customer more. Double check your order before you leave and make sure they are actually working on your order to make sure it's done properly. I wasn't going to write this review until I noticed this has been more consistent than previous times I've been there so I figured az folks need to know they aren't the best business. This place used to be my go to in the mornings before a trip to the dog park. Unfortunately it had been going through ups and downs as far as consistency. When they are on point the bagels are absolutely what you can want in a bagel. Crisp outside warm and fluffy on the inside. When they are off though they aren't at all what you want. Dry and chewy. Today was right on the middle. Everything Bagel/Lox with all the fixing. Salmon was fresh with the perfect little smoke. Campers had a nice bite and cream shreds was a plenty. Almost on the verge of too much cream cheese. Menu is expansive, but come early for the full opportunity to get your flavor.
