We wandered in to Hot Cookie on a furiously hot evening. Dinner had been good but we needed to cool off with some ice cream. Hot cookie was just the ticket. It is right on the main drag on Palm Canyon in the heart of old Palm Springs. The air inside was cool and the staff was even cooler. Besides the namesake hot cookies, baked in house, they have an amazing selection of house-made gelato! We quickly chose the Moosetracks, and the Peanutbutter, Brownie. The server was totally great and friendly. The small scoops were very generous. The ice cream is small batch and unbelievably wonderful! The cookies looked delicious, they had penis shaped cookies and vagina shaped cookies! We laughed so hard but we didn't buy either! They let us stand inside in the air conditioned cool to eat our treats. We returned the next night for another round of scoops! His customer service was not only outstanding, he had such a caring smile on his face. Knowing Palm Springs is such a busy place, it's hard to find that kind of customer service! This is not your mom and Pop bake shop, but rather an eventful giggle filled experience. Would I recommend this for a family visit? Depends on your family.... Nana might get a kick out of the phallic shape cookie, but parents with small children might want to keep the kids outside while you order. If you are in Palm Springs for a bachelorette or friends weekend, I highly recommend taking a gander at the sweets and treats. We opted for two cookies. The Boy Scout was a snickerdoodle topped with s'mores ingredients. These cookies were soft and decadent, but also not overly sweet. If you would like to have your hot cookie warmed, make sure to mention it to The attendant. Otherwise they come fresh out of the display in a discreet white paper bag. All puns aside I actually enjoyed the cookie quite a bit. They tend to be on the soft side for those chewy, soft cookie enthusiast. The staff was actually extremely helpful and kind while we giggled through our order. There isn't much standing space inside, but it was well air-conditioned. Not that you would want to linger around and make eye contact with anyone while you stuffed your face with a giant cookie. If you've visited their other location in the Castro District in San Francisco, then this cookie place is a familiar visit (mainly for its provocatively shaped cookies). Food (4/5) The cookies at this location are on the family friendly side as there were no provocatively shaped cookies at the time that I went, but they had a decent selection of cookies available. I bought a white chocolate macadamia nut cookie, the Harvey milk toffee cookie, and the cookies and cream cookie. By far the white chocolate macadamia nut cookie was the best option because of the balance of the sweetness of the white chocolate and the savoriness of the macadamia nuts. My least favorite was the Harvey Milk toffee cookie because it was overly sweet and too thin. Service (3.75/5) The worker inside was somewhat friendly but he didn't really help us with any selection of the cookies and sort of just waited for us to make a decision when we ordered. I would have appreciated if he told us the most popular cookies to try as there were a decent amount of options to select from. Ambiance (3.75/5) The inside of this place is pretty bare and just had the case of cookies and ice cream options to choose from. There wasn't any seating inside, so expect to just take your order and walk somewhere else to eat them at. An employee refused to serve my 2-, 4-, and 5-year-old nieces unless they said "please." These are little children who didn't even understand what she was asking them to do, yet she stood there refusing to give them their ice cream. Instead of showing kindness and patience, she chose to embarrass and upset them. The owners should know who they are hiring because this employee's behavior was completely unacceptable. We came as a large group, and after witnessing how she treated the children, part of our group refused to order anything. Came with a party of 4 and even during a rush, the nice gal behind the counter (I'm sorry I didn't catch your name but your tattoos rock) was super helpful and kind. At the time we visited, the only dairy-free ice cream option they had was vanilla, but the folks who ordered it were amazed at how tasty and creamy it was. I got the cookies & cream ice cream and it was great, tasted just like cookie dough. A single scoop is a reasonable price and the portion served was very generous. My wife and I were walking down the street. She was on the phone with Kaiser when we approached the store she needed to go to (Diane's Bikinis). She sat on a chair outside Hot Cookie. A minute later someone barged outside of Hot Cookie telling her to take a chair out of the stack so the other chairs don't break. She said extremely rudely. My quickly wife got up, ended her conversation and went into Diane's Bikinis. At this point I'm on the phone now and she turns on the speakers outside fullllll blasstttt with major profanity. It was so loud that ppl walking by were staring and looking - even an employee from Diane's Bikinis came outside wondering why the music is so loud. Keep in mind this is at 9 AM. About 5 minutes later the music turns off and she comes outside. I sarcastically said good music. She then says why are you harassing me. I said I'm not harassing you at all. My wife was done at Diane's next door and came outside so we can leave. That's when the lady got more angry for some reason. She called my wife a dumb white bit*h multiple times unprovoked. I even giggled and said you're the one harassing. She was young (probably early-mid 20s). She had a bandana on with her bangs exposed. We went to Hot Cookie the other night pretty close to closing and they were out of almost everything except one flavor, so we decided to pass and come back the next day a little earlier. I'm glad we did! They had a good amount of flavors available, though a few were still sold out--so do yourself a favor and come early. I opted for just cookies (no ice cream) and they were all delicious. I got the Bust a Nut, a peanut butter cookie that was amazing. The Basic Bitch (classic chocolate chip) was also really good. The third cookie was, I believe, called Butter Cup, with Reese's peanut butter cups, and the fourth was toffee--honestly, all of them were great. The rest of my family ordered brownie sundaes and ice cream scoops with cookies, and everyone loved their desserts. The ice cream, brownies, and cookies were all a hit. It's actually unreal how bad the service was. I was waiting for someone to jump out and tell us we were part of a hidden camera prank. I never leave bad reviews but this was a unique case. We (a group of four 20s-30s easy going guys in town on a work trip) walked in to what looked like a fun sassy little shop and the woman working the front was IMMEDIATELY so rude, it actually caught me off guard. It was 25 minutes to closing but that's not an excuse. We were first time visitors and had questions, obviously, about the hilarious NSFW menu. Every response was so short and rude and not in a fun sarcastic way, which would've been fine. It felt like she was actually angry about serving us. After we paid, we were outside eating our ice cream and discussing how we had never experienced service that bad when she came out and closed the umbrella above the table we were sitting at. Then she closed the umbrella above the table of the family next to us without saying a word to them. I don't know if she had a problem with us personally or if she had somewhere to be or if she is just like that all the time but she is a terrible representative of what seems like a fun business idea. The ice cream was okay, not great and the scoops were small enough to see the bottom of the cup. The cookies were okay. The shake was good. But none of it matters if they don't get this service issue handled. Really wanted to love this place but sadly will not be returning. I concur with another review that the cookies are over baked. I saw the owner replied stating their goal is to have crispy edges and soft center but in my opinion a lot of the cookies in the case looked burnt and our cookies were all super dry throughout. It's hard to believe they were baked today, they taste more like 2 day old cookies and that really isn't worth the steep prices. Pretty tasty cookies, although I expected the cookies to come warmed considering the business name. Employee working was extremely friendly and patient. Store is small but gets the job done. Many delicious cookie types to choose from.
