Tasty, and will probably give me heartburn. The one dog was around $4.50 which is okay. It was packed in a bag, wrapped in foil and included a good amount of napkins. After learning about a place that specialized in hot dogs, I knew I had to take a trip. Their menu seems to have other items but really, why would you think about ordering something else. I've seen that there isn't much of a storefront so I opted for the drive-thru. I ordered a variety of dogs to include the Southwest, the Rueben, the Palmetto Smoker, and the Carolina Popper. The dogs came out after about 5 minutes of waiting in the drive-thru. After getting home, I immediately opened the spread and looked at the dogs. The photos I saw online gave it more justice as I was underwhelmed from looking at the dogs. All the dogs tasted good but it was just good. With the place not being servirle orientated, you would expect more emphasis to be placed on the food but I didn't really feel that. More focus seems to be on loading up toppings rather than making a real quality dog that you would even enjoy void of toppings. We were craving a hot dog that wasn't from a fast food restaurant. We looked up the Hot Dog Depot and decided to drive over. They do have a drive thru if you prefer. We ordered our hot dogs customized. I had a beef hotdog with onions slaw chili mustard and ketchup. My wife had mustard chili and onions on her beef hotdog. The bun was toasted which made the hotdog and toppings hold together well. The chili you can taste that it's not from a can and made fresh. We also had an order of tater tots. Nothing spectacular about them, The fountain drinks we ordered were fresh and not flat. We enjoyed ourselves throughly. Nothing special about the ambiance as it's just an order kiosk and a pickup window. The service was quick. Very good hot dogs and well worth the shirt drive from Charlotte. The service was friendly and helpful to a first time guest. I wasn't prepared for a drive through only but they have plenty of parking to pull over and enjoy the food while it's hot. That was the worst Frank I ever had took one bite and threw it in the garbage. The fries were greasy. The soda was flat will never return.

The prices were surprisingly high and to make matters worse, there was no dining facilities or restrooms available. At the prices they charge you would expect a place to sit-but there was neither. I have anxiously awaited the opening of the Hot Dog Depot...I enjoyed two corn dogs with my first visit so I decided to try a Chicago Dog with my second visit. MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT! The beef dog was overcooked/heated and had the texture of a slim Jim and about the same size. The dog was wrapped very tightly in an aluminum wrap which produced moisture that compressed the bun to nothing desirable. A loose paper wrapping would preserve the full soft texture of the bun...and make you believe that it was not pre-made and sitting for a long time. It is very important that a takeout establishment does not destroy the quality of their product by careless preparation and less than careful packaging. HDD - you need to do better! Go to YouTube and watch a video on Portillo's Hot Dogs to see how it's made and packaged...BEFORE YOU CONTINUE TO CALL IT A 'CHICAGO DOG'. Consider a paper tray for prep and serving...the quality improvement will be significant (price accordingly). I would suspect that some re-training might be in order as well...I needed to repeat my simple order three times and my request for mustard for the corn dog was not completed.
