    Just above the tip jar
    Ricardo J.

I have seen this place before in passing, but this weekend, visiting Mama J, she said she was down for some Saturday night pizza. This place instantly came to mind. It is situated right next to Tapz along Highway 281 in Johnson City. The advantage is that you can go into Tapz and wait for your phone call that your pizza is ready while enjoying an ice cold beer. I did just that - with a cold Lone Star Light. See my pic on the Tapz page as reference. Our pizza came out hot and fresh. The gentleman who made the pizza and who had greeted me for ordering was a true Texan. Lean, dusty, and cool AF. He handed me my pizza with a smile and a sincere desire that I enjoy it. I took it to the car for the ten-minute ride home. You can see in the pics what awaited when I opened the box for my mom and I to see. This pizza was satisfying in every way. It was cooked perfectly with a nice balance of toppings. They don't look like much, but the flavor was there. The dough had a sweetness to it that wasn't too strong and balanced nicely with the acidity of the sauce. For quality, service, and putting money in local pockets, I would come back here again and again. Highly recommend.

We are on vacation stopped for pizza. This sadly is the worst pizza I have ever had and I'm 50.

We are on vacation stopped for pizza. This sadly is the worst pizza I have ever had and I'm 50. The man wore a cowboy hat no hair net for his long hair. His hands covered in flour with the card swiper in his hands. I waited 1 hour for 2 calzones and cinnamon sticks. The dough had no flavor at all. The sauce tasted like tomato paste and it was thick. I understand he was working alone as he said after I paid and waited. That doesnt change the taste. There was people asking how much longer? I'm so disappointed. The 711 has better pizza.

Excellent service! Excellent pizza! Don't waste your time with mediocre pizza chains in Fredericksburg. This is the BEST pizza around! Support local businesses! We ordered the Pepperoni Devastator and Troubles Mess.

Large pizza with pepperoni, bacon, jalapeños.

Very tasty pizza, quick service, generous portions. We ordered a pizza and salad. They warned us the salad was big, and they were definitely right about that! If you're eating it as a "side salad" as we did, it could easily be shared by three adults. The two of us didn't finish it, which is a shame, because they put plenty of toppings on it. The lettuce was good, not just a bunch of filler. Pizza was good too. Nice blend of toppings and flavors. I prefer a crispier crust, but I realize that's mostly personal preference. It wasn't undercooked or bad, just prefer another minute or so on the crust. The staff are super friendly, personable, and even call you to let you know when it's ready. I hope this place sticks around, I know we'll be trying it again.

Ok, so 1/2 left because family dig in before I could snap pic!!! Great crust & fresh ingredients!!!

Great place to get pizza in Johnson City! Right on Route 290 downtown, food truck with amazing fast service you can order ahead or just pop by! Highly recommend you try this!!!

Half pepperoni for him and half veges for me.

Excellent!! So happy we found this and tried it out. Great pizza! We ordered "build your own" pizza. Very good. We will for sure add this to our "go to" list.

The owner is very friendly and the food was great. He calls your phone when it's ready so you could step inside the bar next door in the meantime, or like us, we just ran to get a couple groceries and came right back. About 15 minute wait. We ordered fried pickles, wings, and the hot mess sandwich - all great! If you're on a diet, steer clear or cheat for one day like I did - it's worth it!

Yes, they have antique stores, a mortor cycle museum, the annual Rodeo, and LBJ's boyhood home. But they have some very interesting restaurants as well. Let me tell you about Proof of Cooper. My wife and I were on one of my adventures, picking up some items an hour from home. It's hot, late afternoon and we wanted a cocktail and good food. We walked into Proof of Cooper to look at the menu, we were greeted by lovely smells of cooking coming from the kitchen. This was the place for us. We ordered an Old Fashion and a Peach Fashioned. My Old Fashion was perfect! Great balance of whisky and sweetness. My wife really enjoyed her Peach fashioned. The menu has a lot of variety, Texas favorites for sure. It was hard to choose. We were told they did their BBQ out back, this restaurant does not look like your typical BBQ place. The bar is home town but the dining room is Hunting club rustic. To order, I had the smoked turkey club on Texas toast with green beans, my wife had the BBQ sample plate with Mac and cheese & pit master beans. Her meat choices were brisket, pulled pork and spare ribs. My sandwich was great! The bread was toasted just right, the turkey has a nice smoky flavor with ham and bacon. Loved the green beans. Then I stole some of the pit master beans off my wife's plate. Oh some dam good. And so was the Mac and cheese. Brisket and pulled pork were tender, flavorful and just right, on par with some of the best bbq places I have eaten at here in Texas. Spare ribs were too firm for my wife but I enjoyed them. The staff was wonderful. Very helpful, nice and fun to work with. This is a family owned restaurant and the staff that we met were all born and raised here. We look forward to coming back to Johnson City and visiting Proof of Cooper again. If just to try the delicious looking desserts we had no room for, see our photos.

Let me first say I wish this establishment well, and hope they have success in their endeavors…read more I was in centex to visit daughter, and suggested a bbq tour of the small towns west of Aus. We arrived at P&C mid afternoon on a Monday. We were touring this and other towns, so only ordered the pulled pork sandwich, side of mac n cheese and side of mashed potatoes w gravy between the two of us. And some extra bbq sauce on the side. The pulled pork sandw comes premade with what looks to be homemade pickles, smoked pulled pork, coleslaw, & bbq sauce. The presentation is fairly impressive. Unfortunately, the taste did not measure up. We had bites of the sandwich as a whole, and also tasted the individual ingred by themself to get a feel for what contributed to the overall. The pulled pork was hit/miss. Some of it was generously smoked & that smokiness came through. Other bites of it the smoked flavor was not prominent. Mac n Cheese - solid. By far the best thing we tried. Super cheesy, flavorful. Nice work! Coleslaw - substandard. I'd say the C range. Pickles on the sandwich - they were thicker and appeared homemade. They didn't seem like they had been left to sit long enough on the shelf for the pickling to soak in. In appearance they were still very close to cucumbers instead of pickled cucumbers. Flavor wise they didn't taste like cukes, but nor did they add a dill-ish or sweet pickle flavor of substance. (Can see the pickles in attached pic, can see the color and texture doesn't look significantly pickled.) Sauce - extremely little flavor. The consistency was not watery, but you had to close your eyes and concentrate to taste what little flavor there was - as though it was watered down immensely. Sauce gets a D. Mashed potatoes & gravy. They served the gravy on the side. The potatoes themselves were good - a little buttery and therefore enjoyable. The consistency of the gravy was mealy - was unexpected, and odd. Lacked the common flavor of a hearty gravy begun with a roux of flour and meat drippings. (Zoom in on attached photo, you can see the mealy and almost-grainy texture of the gravy.) Overall we weren't impressed. The mac n cheese being the best thing is not what you expect at a bbq place. Like I said, we wish the establishment well. But we wouldn't come back when in Johnson City. Final note, the hostess/server was genuinely warm and friendly. She was wearing multiple hats, running around, but was pleasant and engaging.

Everything was cooked perfectly; I would have licked that reduction off my plate, it was so good! Adequate portion size. I am so happy to have a fine dining restaurant in Johnson City but with that comes a higher expectation. We typically have a reservation but we walked in and were offered bar seating. Beautiful bar and very comfy chairs. We were happy when they added this a few years ago. Service was friendly enough but it lagged at different points during our experience. Here is a review of the food. Wedge Salad - nice iteration of this salad included bacon, onions, cherry tomatoes and blue cheese ranch dressing. Could have used more dressing but serving was big enough for 2. Lamb Osso Bucco - looked good on the plate, tender and tasty but I struggled to find enough meat on the shank. Green Beans - forgot to bring out with entree and were completely overwhelmed by dill Signature Mac & Cheese - nothing signature about it. Thin sauce, bland I have to be honest, I yearn for the days of their blue crab dip and exceptional tenderloin steak. I think Bryan's has lost a step but we'll come back and sit at a table try something else.

I remember this little cafe in Marble Falls known for its homemade pies. My grandfather loved stopping here, and sometimes he'd bring pies all the way back to West Texas for us. Oh, how we loved those pies. So we're talking about more than 40 years of nostalgia wrapped up in this place for me. When I recently had the opportunity to make the drive back to Marble Falls, I was genuinely excited. I couldn't wait to sit down at Blue Bonnet again, have a chicken fried steak and, most importantly, get my hands on that PIE. And I'll give credit where it's due. I ordered the chicken fried steak plate, and the chicken fried steak was just as good as I remembered it. Crispy, tender, comforting -- exactly the kind of old-school Texas cafe food I'd been hoping for. The gravy, after adding in some salt and lots of pepper was creamy and perfect. The sides? Well... The green beans tasted canned, and I'm pretty sure those mashed potatoes were the red-skinned powdered variety you can buy at Costco. You know what? I was fine with it. It is what it is. The meal was still pretty darn good, and none of that was why I'd driven back after all these years anyway. I WAS HERE FOR THE PIE. After we ate, I ordered a slice of fudge and a slice of lemon meringue to take home and share. Later, I opened the container. And my smile fell. What in the SCHOOL CAFETERIA had been put into this Styrofoam container and peddled off as Blue Bonnet Cafe lemon meringue pie?! This was not the pie I remembered. The lemon filling was this unnaturally yellow, gelatinous drudge. The crust didn't taste remotely like a made-from-scratch pie crust. And that beautiful homemade meringue I remembered, piled up and lovingly browned on top? Gone. Surely the fudge pie would save this childhood reunion. It did not. Another cheap, flavorless crust with some sort of fudge-like concoction filling it. And THAT is when this stopped being about whether I liked a couple slices of pie. I had carried a memory of Blue Bonnet Cafe around with me for more than four decades. A little cafe, my grandfather bringing pies home to West Texas, and all of us being so excited when he did. Those memories are still wonderful. I just wish the pies I'd brought home this time bore some resemblance to them. Blue Bonnet Cafe, you gave a promise to me... And you broke it. You broke it. My heart -- and my nostalgic little pie-loving heart -- will never be the same.
