Whip My Soul! EPIC. Look, this place is completely outstanding EVERY SINGLE TIME. The owner is 100% hands on. He takes your order, and when he's free'd up he walks around the dinning room and introduces himself to everyone. Generally and heartfelt with your experience with his food and dining experience. I've come here a few times, and it's 100% consistency with service, care, food, cleanliness, and it's not easy, this place is always packed, always a dining room full of people, friends, family, just an amazing vibe here. I take my out of town friends here every time they come to visit. Normally I get the catfish, cause I love it so much, and I just crave it when I come, but this time I forced myself to try something new. Let me tell you it didn't disappoint. Their wings are outstanding too! Perfectly seasoned. Hot fresh, seasoned like an old family secret recipe. I also got 2 sides with the 3 piece chicken wing order. So I got Mac & cheese, of course. It's so rich and creamy, really one of the top 2 best Mac & cheese I've ever had. My second side I got was their yams. I can't explain it, but it just smells like Christmas and tastes like Christmas. They're a food group on their own. You have to, no you MUST get their yams. They're just epic. I'm already thinking about my next visit to Whip My Soul.

My husband and I have been dining at Whip My Soul since it first opened. Why? Whip My Soul, one of the top comfort food restaurants, has consistently great food. The portions are generous, which means count on bringing a doggie bag home. The flavors are bold, authentic, and the food comes out hot and fresh. Standouts include the wings, fish, oxtails, and their soul food egg rolls. Some of our favorites include the sweet potatoes, greens and grits. While the standout for us is the food, the service is exceptional. The owners, family members and servers are Texas friendly and super kind. It is not uncommon for you to see the owner cleaning tables or mopping. We love their work ethic. Whip My Soul delivers traditional Southern comfort with heart, soul, and consistency. If you're craving satisfying soul food in Austin, this restaurant should be #1on your dining list. The atmosphere is always friendly and welcoming.

I've had this on my list for a hot minute and was finally out in this direction to be able to try this location one of my good Yelp friends Dolores L has been here several times and gave her stamp of approval. We ended up arriving around 1 PM on a Saturday afternoon it was rainy outside and definitely busy on the inside. They have their menu listed out and you walk up to the counter order. Your food are directed to get your own self serve beverage and then wait for your name to be called to get your tray from the window. The gentleman at the front was so sweet. We let him know it was our first time here and what he would recommend for us to try. His recommendation was to have one with tenders one with chicken wings. We could try the different flavors and how they come out differently. I ended up getting the waffle and my friend got the tenders. Onion rings and waffle fries. The chicken had amazing flavor of both the breading, but also in the meat itself the wings and cells were huge even though I only ordered three I could only finish one along with half of the waffle waffle was very thin and crisp again, even without having syrup it was very tasty on its own adding the syrup made it better. We ended up getting to go to containers for both of us to take home and I will say that everything heated up nicely and was a great leftovers the following day. The restaurant itself was simple with tables that you could move to accommodate larger parties or smaller parties. The drink area was a little bit congested, very hectic just because of how many people were in there and I will say that they may have had an opportunity to do a better at busting the tables as individuals left, which seem to get better as we sat there before we left. I would totally go back to try other items almost forgot I tried their banana pudding cake and it was phenomenal. Highly recommend five stars.

Whenever we are in the area we stop by and get our dinner. However, this trip we got food for the family as well. It turned into a large order! Tried the gizzards for the first time and they were delicious! Kids wanted the red velvet cookies and were disappointed at first at the size. But when they tried them, they changed their minds. They said they were very good! The only negative thing about this trip was we were missing food. We thought we checked our bags but it was so much! When we got back home we were missing the 3 piece fish meal. So triple check your order before you leave!

Whip My Soul is hands down some of the best soul food in Austin. It's a very casual, no-frills spot where you order at the counter and then grab a table, which makes it quick and easy. What really stands out is how consistent the food is. Every time I've come here, it's been just as good as the last! Flavorful, fresh, and exactly what you're craving when you want comfort food. That kind of consistency is hard to find and definitely keeps me coming back. If you're looking for solid, dependable soul food without anything fancy, this is the place to go.

The food.... Delicious. The service... the bomb. The young man taking my order helped me make a decision and went through the menu with me. On top of that, I called a month later bc I misplaced my receipt and they found it... and text it to me! 10/10 for sure!!

The YAMS wow! Reminds me of home. Delicious .

All I can say is get here as fast as you can. The food here brought a tear to my eye it was soooo good. No bs no exaggeration this was such great quality and flavorful food I was angry with myself for not coming sooner. Every thing is good it doesn't matter what you get! But if you must know I got chicken tenders chicken wings collard greens Mac and cheese yams corn bread fried okra and last but not least oxtail Mac n cheese eggrolls !!!! No I didn't eat all this alone I had my wife and kids and we all agree we LOVE this place. The service is wonderful the interior is very clean and there are so many drink options. I will say I only overlooked eating here because traffic on 620 is always so bad and because it's in a shopping center I simply passed by and never saw. Boy was that a mistake. Please do your self the favor and give Whip My Soul a chance .

Just moved from NC so was looking for traditional soul food from a Black owned business and came across Whip My Soul. I'm so happy I have them a try because everything was hot, fresh, and delicious. It's a casual counter service restaurant that does get busy. I did come in on a Saturday evening and it was definitely their peak time. The line was to the door and food had about a 45 minute wait. For made to order food and with the crowd they had I expected that especially with a line and full tables. My food came out quicker than I expected. The macaroni and cheese was baked and still very cheesy. The greens were perfect, I just added some hot sauce to give them some spice. The fish and chicken were fried perfect and seasoned well. The portion size was good especially considering the cost of food and what other restaurants charge.

Whip My Soul you did not disappoint! Food was delish, customer service was on point and the energy was good. The restaurant was clean and everything came out quickly. Top faves at the table would be the Oxtail & Mac Egg Rolls, Wings, Catfish, Mac n Cheese and the red beans and rice. Looking forward to coming back to try more things on the menu!

THIS SH** LITERALLLY WHIPPED UP SOUL!!!! Hands down, this is the best Soul Food in Austin, TX. My girlfriend and I have been here 4 times in counting. Every time we come, we have been satisfied. This is a black-owned restaurant and babiiesss, this is one for the books. The best times to come are early before 5. SUNDAYS ARE SUPER BUSY, (line out the door busy), so beware of that. Let's start with the service, the owner is HIM. Every time we've come, he's greeting everyone that comes in with a calm, cool, welcoming, and assured demeanor about himself while taking orders. When he has the chance, he comes by the tables and checks in with everyone, making sure everyone is satisfied and the place is up to his standards. This man is the definition of #HANDSON! It's needed. He doesn't know it, but we really value him. The Ambiance is usually way more busier, energetic like. However, today we came closer to opening @ 11:15am and was able to enjoy sitting down without the rush. It's always great music playing, so you know I'm jamming :P The cooks keep hair nets on their heads and gloves on. It's somewhat an open window kitchen so that's cool too. There's usually a cleaning lady going around making sure the place stays clean and tables rotating. The prices aren't bad. They did just increase since the last we been here, but they're still affordable. Now for the food WITH SOULLLL... Since we've been here so many times, I'll give you the MUST TRYs! These are delicious, delightful and your tastebuds will love you for it. Plus the portions are generous and never lack in flavor. #ComfortingFood 1. Oxtail Eggrolls $14 2. Cheezy Mac (regular) $6 3. Sweet Glazed Yams (regular) $6 4. Mean Greens (regular) $6 5. Pistachio Brownie (when available) 6. Sweet Tea $3.75 7. Fried Cabbage (Weekend Side Special) My rating... this place is definitive of SOUL. It's consistent, clean, and carries the vibes! One thing about it, whether you're vegetarian or loving the meat, you'll find something to love that will lighten your soul. It's been hard to find QUALITY food here in Austin, but we found it in 'WHIP MY SOUL'. So GO, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! You won't be disappointed.

Consistency is key and I love that this location is family owned. I don't come here often but when I do want some greens and some fried chicken just right, Whip my Soul a place to go. There are not too many items on the menu that I don't care for however, I hope one day or maybe in the summer you might add some type of fancy Cajun salad. That would be delightful. Anyway, I ran out here the other night to grab dinner for Bae and I. I really enjoy that. My food lasts me two meals. I got the two shrimp and fried chicken along with red beans and rice and a side of greens. Bay wanted some fried fish, extra crispy, some greens and candy yams. He loves cornbread, so I got that as well.

I have heard so many great things about the different menu items! I'm in the beginning stages, as of a few days ago, to try every food dish on the menu. Yes, it took my first plate, and I knew I would return. You know when your first dish is the best; it's a sign to keep on coming back. So I walked into the holiday cheer; it was nice to see "Let It Snow" on the door. Also, it's a very spacious place. I loved the checkered floors, the woody walls, and the menu posted on several of them. It's a huge menu, which makes it easier to look it over without holding up the line. Of course, I ordered the oxtails but I order the greens instead of cabbage. Trying something new. But they switched up on me. Instead of the regular rice and beans, they had a yellow rice that was good and fluffy, full of flavor. Another delicious surprise is that the other side item is red beans and rice with sausage. Now, let me tell you, you get a lot of food. It may appear you can't eat it all, but you can because it's so good. The oxtail fell off the bones. The red beans, rice, and sausage had a nice spice to them. The yellow rice was just yummy. I ate the whole dish in one setting. Oh, one more thing, the parking is plentiful, and there are several businesses in the same parking lot. Also, let me give better instructions than the ones given to me. Once you pass Lakeline Mall, it's right down the street on the same side as the mall. It might be two or three lights, and you're there! Whip My Soul is now one of my favorite places to dine and to tell all my friends!

We were excited to try the food, and were hungry. Our server appeared (I can't remember his name but he was a short guy with blond hair). I ordered a cocktail and my husband ordered beer to begin with. He went away and then came back asking my husband if he wanted some whiskey cocktail, and we corrected him that we had asked for a particular beer. No big deal. We then ordered the deviled eggs and shishito peppers, and the red fish and short ribs for entree. A lady brought us the drinks, and the deviled eggs. Our server swung by and then disappeared. We thought the shishito peppers were on their way. We waited for what seemed like a really long time and still no shishito peppers. We also noticed that each table had a carafe of water except ours. We were just given water once, and then our server never bothered to fill the water up. Anyway, we kept waiting since there was no sign of the server. At this point, we felt he might have forgotten the second appetizer and we just did not want it, but he was nowhere to be found. A man (not our server) brought out our entrees. We then told him that we had been waiting for our second appetizer and would just want to cancel it. We asked if we could get the biscuits instead. He brought out the biscuits within a few minutes. Now this is where it really annoyed us. Had our server just come over and said he had forgotten our shishito peppers, it would have been okay. Human. What he tried was act smart and dropped by saying the shishito peppers would be out to which we said that we didn't want an appetizer after an entree and had cancelled it. I almost felt like he was treating us as if he thought we don't really dine out or whatever and he could just make fools of us. This really didn't sit right with me. We asked him for water and he filled it up left. The food was above average. The short ribs were good but my red fish had been hammered! The biscuits were good. The deviled eggs were good as well. Anyway, we finished our meal, and got the check, paid, and were waiting to finish our drinks. The receipt was on our table. Also, note, it was not a particularly busy day with several empty tables. What our server did next was absolutely unacceptable. I think he wanted to see if we had tipped him after his awful service. We did, but not 20% as we always do because of the soddy job he did, not to mention his attitude. We paid 15% which I think was more than what he deserved now. Out of nowhere, and mind you, after being absent for long periods before, he just came by, grabbed the paid up bill from our table to our shock, while we were still sitting and talking, looked at the bill, turned towards us, and muttered something angry under his breath and walked away. I have never seen this level of entitlement and bad behavior. We left right away. We had been really looking forward to this meal but I would not want to go back. The food was good, but not great, and I would not want to put up with such obnoxious behavior as a paying customer.

To end the meal we tried their beignets which weren't stellar but reminded me more of a fried donut with some powdered sugar sprinkled on top. I'd come back but maybe not get so much food since we both definitely left stuffed!
