I'm not a negative review kind of guy, but when it sucks, it sucks. We usually visit once a month, and have not previously encountered a reason to complain. But today broke us. We walked in for lunch and it was busy, 10+ tables. It took a minute to be seated, no big deal, but we noticed immediately that the man seating us was also the ONLY employee on the floor. We watched as he made drinks, boba, pulled cases of Coke behind the counter, refilled water, and some 10 minutes later, finally made it over to take our order. We were very leery, but another employee suddenly appeared out of the back with the table settings and we were assured it was fine. We order and it takes about 10 more minutes just to get the broth. That starts BOILING before any of the meats, vegetables, or other items are delivered to the table. By this point we haven't eaten anything other than the complimentary peanuts and cucumbers, and we've been there a half-hour. My son's chicken arrives soon thereafter, and we finally receive the hot pot stuff. And that's the last we saw of the service team until he brought the check nearly 30 minutes later. We tried waving him down for refills, the other employee walked by and asked if we wanted a refill on the broths and then forgot about us. For an all-you-can-eat hot pot place, they sure can save a ton of money by never refilling your items, drinks, or broth. He brought out the check at nearly an hour later and I asked why he hadn't offered me a refill for any of the hot pot items. He apologized and then asked if I would be paying via card. I used the reward dollars we'd saved from previous visits because we don't think we'll be returning. Literally, absolutely zero inclination to serve us more food or even acknowledge that we were still hungry and hadn't seen him or any other staff after the initial table set. I removed the defaulted 22% tip HE selected on the credit card reader he brought to the table and asked for the manager. He said he'd be back, then disappeared to the kitchen immediately and didn't return for the 10 minutes we decided to wait. Another customer asked us if we'd visited before, and we told them we were monthly visitors, but this would likely be our last time. Another employee we hadn't seen the entire time we'd been there came to bus the table and we asked her if there were problems. She told us she couldn't talk about it, then hurried off to the back without even finishing our table. Most likely they were at least watching her, and would retaliate if she said anything out of line. A group walking in heard me complaining as we walked out, stopped me to ask what happened, then followed us back out the door. Can't recommend them anymore. Not sure what happened in the month since we were last there, but it's apparent it's not being managed actively. Short staffed is one issue, being poorly staffed by employees who don't care is a larger problem. Maybe new ownership and management is needed, if it continues like this, the corner will be vacant before too long. Sad, because this was a good place without having to drive to Falls Church. Rude rude rude, I got dinner included with my lecture from the waiter. I told him it was my first time here, apparently I should have known the correct heat setting was only 1 or 2. I should have known to not put ingredients above the halfway point of the pot because it was too much. When I asked for a menu to place another round of orders, I should have known he put the menu at the bottom of the 3 tiered cart when I went to the restroom. When he came around to check on customers, he conveniently skipped over me. What am I paying for exactly? There is a reason this place was empty. They have standard hot pot veggies/ protein options and a decent sauce bar with more unlimited sides, our fave being the seaweed salad! Broth was mediocre (moderately watered down, lacked flavor), fish filet was a huge miss (couldn't finish the small portion we received bc it had unpleasant texture/ chewy after cooked), some meat options were chewy (our fave was the fatty brisket), and some of the veggies didn't seem fresh (mushrooms were soft/ discolored). Loved that this place is located in Ashburn right in one loudoun. The owner and servers were all nice. The meat was fresh and veggies were too. Their sauce bar is pretty decent as it wasn't too salty or sweet like other hot pot sauce bars in NOVA. Only con was I felt the placement of the tables give the diners little privacy since its so open, especially if you're seated at a table right in the middle of the restaurant. And it could have been cleaner. There is a unmentioned appetizer menu as well that comes with the AYCE option which you can order sesame balls, condensed milk bread, and spring rolls. It was ok. The seasonings for everything were pretty low. They have a great selection of food but the seasoning of the broth and the sauces were ok at best. I did not like the wontons. The eye round was good. The service as good. We did go at a slow time and we were the only people for about thirty minutes but the food came out fast. They do have sodas that are refillable and you don't have to pay for each can. They have a full bar which I didn't use this trip. The restaurant was hot and they had a ton of fans going so talking and listening was a bit hard but overall the place was nice and clean. I do not believe I will actually be going back but who knows? Glad my friend introduced me to this new place! I love hot pot, and they truly satisfied my taste buds here. They have a wide selection of meat and everything else. We ordered the duo broth--beef and tom yum--and both were absolutely delicious. The beef broth was rich and flavorful, while the Tom yum had just the right amount of heat to give it a kick. The quality of the meat was impressive--tender and well-marbled--and the variety of fresh veggies, noodles, and dipping sauces made it easy to customize our hot pot experience. The service was great too--attentive without being overbearing. I really appreciated how clean and well-organized everything was, especially given how busy they can get. Solid hot pot. We came here to celebrate my brother's birthday and had a fantastic time. Hot Pot Legend is a great option for AYCE hot pot in the northern Virginia area. We visited for lunch service on a Saturday, right when it opened, and were able to be seated in a booth immediately. However, the place quickly filled with large groups. Before being seated, you're asked if you plan to get a personal hot pot or plan to share a large hot pot. I had never been to a place where there was an option to do your own or share, which was pretty cool to learn that they have that here. Some of the tables here have personal hot pot stations with a large hot pot station in the center and some tables just have one or the other. Very cool how accommodating this place is. All three of us did the AYCE option, which was about a little more than $35 per person. It's about average price, I think, but compared to hot pot places back home, there aren't as many options here. However, there is still plenty to choose from! There was a variety of different broths, meats, veggies, a handful of different noodles and starches, etc. We tried the pork bone broth and the kimchi, which were both good. I did prefer the pork bone broth though. I love bone broth, so this was very flavorful and you didn't really need the dipping sauces for the meat, which is how hot pot should be. But if you do like dipping sauces, there is a station where you can make your own from the different condiments they offer. This is also where they have some small pastries and orange slices for dessert that you can help yourself to for the AYCE dining option. Of the meats, I really liked the marinated beef. It was very tender and flavorful, so we had to keep ordering a ton of it. Brisket was also a good option, too. Mini dumplings were okay; it was too much dough for the amount of meat in the dumpling. Not too many highlights found here, but I was content with the beef cooked in pork bone broth and having some rice with. Staff was helpful and cleared plates throughout the entire time to make more room at our table. The owner checked in with all the parties and she could not have been more sweet. When she found out it was my brother's birthday, she gave him a panda plushy, the panda being the restaurant mascot and all. Very cool! They have the hot pot usuals such as enoki mushrooms, tofu skin, napa cabbage, Chinese spinach, glass noodles, mussels, and all the hot pot essentials without being extra. Extra would be items like crab and higher grade meats. The food was reasonably fresh. The price for AYCE eats is $35 for adults and $17.99 for kids. I think it's a little on the pricier end but this is Loudoun One. Our family, including the kids, ate a vast amount of noodles, sliced plain and marinated meats, variety of vegetables, pumpkin, dumplings, and many hot pot staples. Our bellies were content. We had the Sichuan, pork bone, and tomato broths and the tomato was the most flavorful out of the 3 options. I liked the Sichuan as I am a fan of numbing peppers but as they kept diluting the broth with just plain broth, it became less enjoyable. The sauce bar and other complimentary dishes that came with the experience were kind of disappointing compared to other hot pot places. Also, the seating booths, high chairs, food trays, and tables weren't necessarily squeaky clean. I think what stuck out to me personally at this hot pot places was the service. Our server was attentive and explained everything well. I believe the owner was also walking around and making sure the customers were taken care of. We even had other servers check on us that it felt like every 10 mins there was always someone making sure we were taken care of without being too awkward about it. We were huge fans of the Rockville location. Unfortunately, covid woes and county policies got the best of them. They really had the best setup with get your own veggies, fungus, noodles and meat served to table. It was efficient and always very fresh. The VA location is large and has many tables. We ordered a bowl of udon noodles, and due to the dim lighting in the restaurant, we did not immediately notice that the entire bowl of noodles was covered in mold. Unfortunately, my 2-year-old son had already eaten a small portion before we discovered the issue.We immediately alerted a staff member, but instead of taking the concern seriously, he claimed that the appearance was just a "normal freezing effect." However, every single noodle had visible mold growth, which was clearly not a result of freezing. Unfortunately, he took the noodles away immediately before I could take a photo. Within 30 minutes, my toddler began experiencing diarrhea -- twice -- which we strongly believe was caused by consuming the spoiled food.Until today, he has had diarrhea for four days. The staff is super friendly and got us set up with our Hot Pot really quick. We choose the dual Kimchi and Schezwan soup base. Ordered the unlimited sides. That is very generous and one can order as many as you want. They have a side bar for their sauces. They do have a full bar but we didn't venture into any drinks this time. came for Lunar New Year with my parents and my in laws. we were a large party of 9 & the owners were really friendly the whole entire time. when we first arrived, one of the owners was giving out red envelopes to her employees that was working that day, so that was very sweet. we were seated & the owners came up to us and offered us a bunch of appetizers that were not on the menu. the fried mantous were my favorite!!!! one of my favorite dim sum staples to have during hot pot? yes, please!! my family really enjoyed the hot pot and their selection. we ended up staying for about 2 hours and a half. my son made a slight mess, but the employees were great to work with. I wish it was easier to order though. when they get busy, it's hard to track down the server and sometimes items didn't get delivered even though it was requested. Our server was just simply wonderful and she recommend us the shaved fatty ribeye since she said the fat would boil off and we would be left with the tender meat. Yes, another staff member did swing by to replenish both our pork and beef broth plenty enough to finish off the rest of our order. We were always checked on to ensure we had plenty to eat since we did purchase the all-you-can-eat meal! ;-) Our server came back on a regular basis, but never ever in an intrusive way. She was so graceful and super helpful!! And just when you think you're TOO FULL, you'll be introduced to these very lovely sesame balls!! My feelings are mixed about Hot Pot Legend. A couple of years ago, I was taken here by my sister and we had nothing but great service and absolutely delicious food. I was seriously impressed! Then, about a year ago, we went together again and honestly... the experience was sort of the opposite. When we came in service was not very good and the employees almost seemed bored or tired, not really engaging with us much. Then, we sat down, and we noticed our utensils were dirty. We all looked at each other awkwardly and decided to eat at a place down the street instead that night. Like I said, this place was absolutely amazing the first time I went, so I hope the most recent time I went was just a fluke or something and things have changed since a year ago. A friend took us to Hot Pot for us to try it and we were so impressed! We did the all you can eat option ($35pp) which I'd definitely recommend. You can choose your own broth (I did the veggie which I really enjoyed) and you choose around 10 items per round that can include veggies, meats, and alternate things like dumplings and eggs. They have a large variety of options (they had like 4 types of mushrooms and 4 varieties of tofu to name a few) so I'd even recommend this for vegetarians. We did 3-4 rounds and my favorites were the Chicken dumplings, fried tofu, baby corn, chicken, and enoki mushrooms. Of note you can also get the veggie spring rolls and a sweet roll with the all you can eat option, we didn't get the veggie roll since we were already stuffed but the sweet roll was a nice dessert! There is also a sauce bar where you can mix your own sauces and take it back to your table. The restaurant itself is clean and large, and they gave us these adorable panda pillows for our booth seats. Since it's hot pot and you are essentially cooking your own food, your order comes out really quick. All you need to do is heat up your pot of broth and add what you ordered. Then just wait until it's cooked. They do offer other food as well, such as regularly cooked dishes, but I've never had anything other than the all you can eat hot pot option. To each their own, but to me it's pretty pointless to go to a restaurant like this unless you are going for the all you can eat hot pot experience. Overall the restaurant is nice. Clean, spacious and staff are friendly and attentive. It is located at One Louden so there is plenty of parking options (limited street parking and free garages parking) and there are plenty other shops around it. They also have a reward program that you can sign up for and earn discounts off future visits. It was really easy to sign up for. After dining here three times, I feel that the quality of the service has decreased with each visit. The restaurant has the potential to be great, but there are ways in which it misses the mark. For example, the owner is super friendly and inviting but the waiters and waitresses can be very inattentive. It is frustrating for the customer to be charged the incorrect dollar amount for an item, receive the wrong order, or ask for a refill on water repeatedly. Though it was moderately busy today, the staff being on their phone frequently made it even more difficult to get their attention. Additionally, despite eating here many times... none of the waiters or waitresses had notified me about the reward system. Plastic spoons, bowls, plates...etc. Thankfully the ladle and pot were metal. Food was great and there was a great variety of meats and seafood. I really like the atmosphere and the ambiance. Unfortunately I don't think it works to the restaurant's advantage as it seems to make things chaotic for the wait staff and takes them a really long time to bring out any food orders. It was like someone would stop by every 5-10 min asking if everything was ok and if we needed to order anything but the moment we did need to order something, it would take forever for it to arrive and by then our appetites had already shifted. Apart from the really long wait time for orders, service was good and attentive. The food quality was just ok. The fatty brisket was excellent but almost everything else was the more traditional AYCE quality meat that you would normally expect. We picked up four main course dishes - mixed vegetables, sesame chicken, Mapo Tofu, veg fried rice, and chicken kabobs as a starter. The sesame chicken was great but a bit sweeter than it should be, mixed vegetables were great, mapo tofu was a bit Spicy and very oily but tasty, and veg fried rice was plentiful but nothing special. My friends are some haters bc they all told me this place was bad but it's delicious as hell. One of my friends and I are shabu shabu connoisseurs so this more Chinese style of hotpot is new to us, but we liked it so much. There is so much more variety than we're used to and it was all good. Being my first time, it was interesting to see the sauces and condiments in the sauce station area, as well as the huge pots of boiling broths on tables as I walked by. We chose a big bowl table and the spicy Szechuan pork broth. This broth really cooked the proteins fast and made them very flavorful! The veggies cooked great and quick too! We tried pork bone broth and mushroom broth (pork broth base) and liked the mushroom one better. They offer different types of meat, seafood, veggies, rice/noodle so you can make your own soup! Overall the whole experience was refreshing and entertaining and food was pretty good. There is a sauce bar near the front door so you can choose (or try) different sauce. They have a wide variety of protein and produce some are good and some not so much. Fatty Brisket and Eye Round Steak - Good thinly slice but I wish it was cut a lil bit smaller. And we would have not known about the sauce bar if it wasn't for a friend who had recently visited. We had " all you can eat" (AYCE) with a duo pot of broth. Interesting, I'll say that. There seem to be a bit of confusion with ordering. I admit, could had been on me, was out 1st visit. However, when we got the check (I'll get back to food), I though "wow, this was really reasonable". There were 4 of us, but somehow we ordered 2 meals to share + some add-ons? Maybe I'm not the smart, but I have been to restaurants around the world. So you order your broth you order your meat, veggies, etc....and it was all good. Cooking instructions provided, only takes a few minutes for anything. There is another table with different sauces and toppings. Not so much a fan. Friends raved about this place, how you can choose the broth of your choice, then cook an endless supply of food at your table in the broth. So basically a buffet where you cook your own food and thus saving the chefs half their work. Might be better if you eat meat, if you eat vegetables then it's going to be very boring and bland. Took over half an hour to be seated, so yes the place is very popular. But the tables are far from clean, you can see where the broth dropped off the previous table occupants food. Nothing like putting your elbows in someone else food remnants. Service is not the best ever, I asked for a beer and the server buggered off not to be seen for 15 minutes. This spot is bomb!!! One of my new faves. It's all you can eat when you dine in and you can get as many things off the menu as you'd like. The menu has a ton of great options with a lot of variety. I got the duo pot where two people can cook their own soup but share! The pot was big and the servers constantly come and ask if you want anything else and refill the broth. I ordered the spicy beef and my sister got the regular chicken broth. We mixed them both up in our bowls and it tasted amazing Some of our favorite things to put in our soup was the corn, rice cakes, broccoli, potatoes, sweet radish, dumplings, nappa cabbage, cilantro, etc... I started with white rice in my bowl but preferred the udon and ramen options. You can pick any of these I recommend cooking it in the soup taking it all out when cooked then adding a different noodle when ready. They have tons of meats and seafood options as well. Decided to stop in for a late lunch on a weekday before going to Trader Joe's and so glad I did! I've never had Chinese hot pot...only Korean. So the place is HUGE and very easy to space out. I was immediately greeted by friendly staff. So when reviewing hot pot I think the most important are BROTH, MEAT, AND SAUCES. They have several broth choices and I loved my pork bone broth. Meat I got the fatty brisket and pork belly. Both are very thinly sliced just the way I like it! Definitely better quality meat then a lot of places I have been to. Sauces...I think the Chef's sauce is great! I also did a simple garlic, spring onion in sesame oil which was good too. My ramen were good along with rice cakes and tofu. They offer a wide variety of seafood, vegetables, tofu and mushrooms. You can do AYCE for $30/person if you want. The custom pot for $25 is enough for most. Came in with the family to have dinner, we came in on a saturday around 6pm and of course there was a waiting period. They don't take reservation during the weekends so we ended up waiting that hour and 15 mins. Their tables are spread out which is good to see. We are allowed to order 10 items off of the veggies and 10 from the meat section which is huge compared to Hot Spot. The difference here is that they take their sweet time bringing it out, it took about 15-20 mins, that is my only complaint. They also seem to have more of a variety of items to select from but their sauce bar needs help. It was really plain jane, no peppers or anything. I definitely would dine in again but only if and when I'm in the area. I would not trek an hour and some change again. read more
