Good food, great prices. There is a cultural nuance that Americans (USA) may not expect. For instance, refills on drinks (teas, sodas, etc.) may be limited at the set price. The servers we've had a few times understand English as well as I understand Spanish: they can get the point across, but it's not easy. That said, it's a very nice little place--quiet, clean, friendly, with generous portions--especially for the price. Previously visited this establishment for many years both for dine in and carry out but unsure if we will continue. Recent visit was carry out and we were disappointed. Ordered two different dinner meals and hot & sour soup. Portion sizes have definitely become smaller but while we were not happy with the carry out portion size we understand the shrinkflation and did not hold it against them. The 3 star rating was due to the food quality and taste. Possibly they have a new chef but are standard order we always get was bland and it had far fewer vegetables then previous orders. We get reducing portion sizes but they also reduced the contents. We are so disappointed that we are not sure we will be coming back. read more

China gourmet has been our neighborhood favorite for as long as we've lived in Lowes Island. The food is consistently good, and we have many favorite dishes, including the hot and sour soup, the dumplings, chow mein, and crispy crunchy beef. STAY AWAY. cant believe they dared to serve an old leftover from lunch food for my dinner pickup. I ordered kongpao chicken at 8 pm which was nothing even like panda express one. We have been going to CGI for 13 years. We were mostly happy with the food but noting to brag about and service was always great. Few years back I wasn't happy with the food so we stopped going there for a while. Recently in winter 2019 gave it another try and had a great experience. They were closed part of the Covid quarantine but now that they are open for takeout we are back ordering from there. Since we're very close, I order online and my husband picks it up. Food has been outstanding. I'm very particular on my food being very hot so we haven't tried the delivery service. Great flavor, huge portions, good quality fresh ingredients and sizzling hot. I noticed the dishes were a bit different on the weekend but still great. They probably have different chef on the weekends. If you tried them in the past and weren't happy you really have to give it another try. read more

Ever since Cheng's closed in Regal Plaza, I've been looking for a new go-to Chinese place. CGI is THE ONE!! It's so good. In fact, I would say they have the best orange chicken I've ever had. Awful experience tonight! They prepared the worse order of chicken fried rice ever along with an order of tempura shrimp that were not even tempura but rather caked on panko breading. I called and explained the situation however they would not prepare a new order or offer a credit /refund. They have lost me as a customer. This food ended up going to the trash. I went back here for the first time in a few years. I took my friend for lunch. The server asked for our order less than two minutes after being seated. Our bill was delivered while I was still eating. We paid but continued to sit there for nearly a long time chatting as they were not busy at all. After delivering the bill and then the change they never came back. Our water was never refilled and we were never asked if we would like anything else. One of the last decent Chinese food places in the area. The delivery is quick, just don't use their online ordering app, it doesn't always work. Best if you just call directly. I typically order a combo of the double cooked pork, dumplings, lemon chicken and wonton soup. The wonton soup broth is a bit spicy, but good. The wontons on the other hand are nothing to write home about. They are typically, just folded over and fall apart easily. The pork is very delicious, equal amounts of veggies and pork. The lemon chick and dumplings are good. The dumplings have more flavor in the filling than most places. I just hope this establishment lasts, otherwise I will have to find another go to for my Chinese food fix. read more

Overall this is a decent option for Chinese food in the area. The dining area isn't super fancy but its more of the basic décor I've come to expect for eat in Chinese. The food is good, I've now been there twice within the past week thanks to my dad picking this place for father's day and his birthday. Service was attentive, and overall a good value for what we ordered during both visits. I'll certainly be back. I can't speak to carry out although I know they do carry out. Each time I've been we've eaten inside. My dad likes the fact that you get real plates and silverware there. I love the fact that they have the option of egg rolls or spring rolls. I can't tell you how many times I'm disappointed to order egg rolls and turns out they are spring rolls. So egg rolls in the egg roll wrapper makes me happy. read more

The best Chinese food in sterling. Chang's restaurant would be a close second. The kung pao is good. It was loaded with meat and packed plenty-o-flava. My dish would be the beef with broccoli. I was not disappointed. The beef was tender, the sauce was classic, and the broccoli was fresh. The service has been attentive with out being annoying. I cant speak to the wait staff as a whole because I have only had the pleasure of one particular waitress. Each and every time I have eaten at China Gourmet Inn I have enjoyed myself no matter if it was lunch or dinner. I have only ordered delivery and have actually never stepped foot in the restaurant itself. I can only say great things about their delivery. The employees that answer the phone are always pleasant and accomodating. The food is always delivered within the time they quote [it may be a little longer wait on a Friday night for example] and it is, without fail, always piping hot. They take checks, will happily throw in chopsticks [no extra charge] and seem to really enjoy taking care of the customer. read more

One if my favorite places to get Chinese food. In a nice location in Sterling and has great food. Every time if have been there I have had a great dish and very good service. The steamed dumplings and egg drop soup are a great start to any meal here. The food comes out quickly and correct the first time. I have been eating here for years and cannot recall a time when something was not correct. If not feeling up to dining in, there is always take away. A great place to go for a delicious meal any time of day or night. Always pleasant people to deal with and are eager to make sure things are correct and how you originally wanted. Friendly service when picking up carry out. Average egg rolls. Steamed dumplings were decent. Fried rice was a bit heavy handed with soy sauce. The rest was more of a disappointment. This is the 2nd time we've ordered from the restaurant and all I remember from the last time is being underwhelmed. I actually enjoy leftover Chinese food, but I don't want it to taste like 3 day old leftovers the first time we eat it. All the dishes that had meat except for the dumplings tasted like the meat was beyond its prime or poor quality. The meat in the wontons (soup) was really unappetizing. The roast pork with snow peas was decent except for the pork. The spare ribs tasted old or possibly microwaved. The big fat egg rolls are fat and crispy and delish! Shrimp Hunan style is fresh and a bit spicy, the general tsos chicken is reminiscent of the now closed oriental regency. We have lived not far from this place for at least 10-15 years. True, we are not foodies, but we have tried Chinese places in DC, New York (Chinatown!), and Toronto over the years, and as a family of four, we keep on coming back to the conclusion that the China Gourmet Inn is the best Chinese food we have had. Sometimes we order to take out, but we always enjoy when we actually go there. The staff and setting are friendly and we are baffled that it isnt packed (most people clearly order take out). Personally, I prefer the Mongolian Beef or the Moo Shi Pork, my daughter Sweet and Sour Chicken, and my wife and son always come back to General Tso's Chicken. Prices are reasonable. This restaurant is filthy it looks like a restaurant thatwould be in a hotel basement in Chernobyl. I used to love this place I have been going there all my life, went there today and saw some things that look like parasites in my soup, after going to the bathroom and seeing the straight up filth I just stood up and payed and left, couldn't even eat the rest of what I ordered.
