This is an average local spot if you're craving simple Chinese food. I usually order the shrimp lo mein since it's a basic dish you can't really go wrong with. This time, I decided to switch things up and tried the dan dan noodles along with the salt and pepper squid. The squid wasn't too bad and was probably the better part of the meal. Unfortunately, the dan dan noodles were disappointing--the noodles were overcooked and the flavor just didn't taste right to me. On top of that, the customer service didn't make the experience any better. The lady at the front who took my order seemed unhappy and not very friendly. I have been using Szechuan Taste as my go to asian food place for about 7 years now. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay area, 80+ years ago I have had ample opportunity to have eaten the best!!! Szechuan Taste is one of the consistently BEST I've ever experienced in a LONG time, since I moved to Virginia. On a fixed income, I seldom treat myself yo Door Dash, it's simply too expensive, but today I couldn't talk myself out of it! It arrived piping hot, and I just finished some of the BEST pork chow mein I've ever eaten in my life!!! I had m Walnut prawns as well, which were, as usual, fabulous, but that chow mein!!!! Wow! Delicious hot szechuan and Cantonese dishes. Fast service, no messing around. I've been here a couple of times and always get quick, courteous phone service. The food is always ready when I arrive. The service at pickup is just as professional. I tried to make small talk, wish Gong Xi Fa Cai... nothing. I left a small tip and was thanked. The food is the same nostalgic, delicious, Americanized version of Chinese dishes that we all love. In recent years, restaurants have somehow altered the flavor and consistency of some dishes, but this restaurant has not. It remains as delicious and flavorful as it has in the decades America has had Chinese restaurants. You will find that the cluster of vehicles sitting in the lot are usually for pickup orders at this restaurant. They keep it simple, take out only. They also offer free items/ dishes that increase in value as you buy more in tiers (i.e., free chicken fried rice with a purchase of $40.) The food was terrible. It was underseasoned overcooked and not as described. One of the dishes we ordered were the ribs. I've had Chinese ribs many many times however, these were humongous bones with no sauce or seasoning. It was as if they had boiled them and put them in the little red foil bag. Unfortunately, my mother and I ended up throwing it all away. I hate waste, I usually try to doctor up things that are less desirable but this was beyond fixing. read more

Located in the plaza behind the Sheetz, this is a small take out and delivery shop (no dining in) location. The hot and sour soup had a good fill of mushrooms and bamboo, not quite sour enough but good and hot. The General Cho's chicken wings were $8 but a nice surprise with a lot of garlic and sauce, a ton of sauce in a foil wrap which kept it easier to stay hot. The beef ho fun was greasy and a lot of garlic, but when hot was a nice treat, lots of scallions and onion to give flavor. Overall a good filling place but be prepared for a garlic overload. This is definitely a mom and pop place. In fact grandma and grandpa may still be involved! This is an order to go place. There are chairs if you wait for your food to be prepared, but there are no tables for dine-in. We tried the Singapore noodles and Kung pao chicken. What's cool is they cook the food when you order it. So it's not sitting around getting soggy. The staff is pretty friendly. read more

As one of my favorite Szechuan restaurants in Fairfax Co. is no longer making the same delicious Spicy Wonton, I did my search on Yelp as usual and found this place with average rating of 4.5 with 68 reviews. This method would work well before but not this time. Despite the many very high ratings, I was not satisfied with the outcome. :/ Very strange. I ordered three items. Spicy Wonton Pan Fried Noodle with Seafood Yang Zhou Fried Rice Spicy Wonton looked good but the sauce was all chili oil and did not have any flavor. Pan Fried Noodle with Seafood was okay. It tasted just like any other Pan Fried noodle with Seafood. Yang Zhou Fried Rice looked okay but the pork in the rice was all fat and skin part. The rice did not have flavor either. For a place with only one cook (or two?) the food is cooked unbelievably fast. And the portion is generous. But quality wise, no. I will continue my search for good Spicy Wonton. read more

Stopped in here one night after reffing at a school not to far away. This place is pretty solid and I'd say I might drive over here more often we don't normally do a lot of Chinese take out but this place is solid. The Szechuan dumplings are legit and spicy enough to be enjoyed without killing you. I also got egg rolls which most places say that then it's not that but they really deliver. I also got their Kung Pao chicken which was a bit soupy but the spice was on point. As you can tell I don't mind spicy and this place will be rotating into my routine for when I need to kick it up while the rest of the house likes it mellow. read more

A solid 3 1/2 star local Chinese take-out spot. Highly recommend for your replacement Christmas dinner. They have some tables inside but we always take out. It's not a date night place but it is good to scratch that flavor itch. This is our go-to place in Woodbridge. We ordered crispy beef, General Tso's chicken, vegetable spring rolls, and crab Rangoon for $43. Don't look at the menu picture on Yelp, the coupon is for $45 and over now. Deliciousness - 3.75/5 I recently ordered takeout from Szecuan Taste and am happy to report that it's one of the best Asian food options in the area. Why not a 5-star rating then? Because while what is good is excellent, what is not good is... pretty unappetizing. By far my favorite thing was the egg foo young. It has incredibly fresh gravy and the egg dish itself was light, fluffy, overflowing with veggies, and appetizing. Too often egg foo young is limp and more like a pancake, they do it right. The Szechuan specialties - the chicken in a peppery sauce and the chow fun - were excellent (as to be expected from the name). Just be prepared for spice if you order a spicy dish, they really turn up the heat. My kids also devoured the sweet and sour chicken, which came with big chunks of fresh pineapple. What disappointed? The fried rice was disappointing (and I am a HUGE fan of fried rice). It didn't have enough egg and just tasted bland. We were also disappointed by the General Tzo's chicken wings, which were over-drenched in sauce and lacked meat on the bones. But those are both minor dishes in an otherwise awesome feast. This place delivers flavor....you will notice a distinct difference from other local Chinese restaurants. The food is amazing, a bit on the spicier side which I like and they have some very interesting dishes you do not typically find at other Chinese restaurants. "Ma po Tofu" perfect vegan dish and spicy. Spicy Won Ton dumplings also....yes amazing, and quite spicy. When I asked for two bags of the dry noodles she said they only come with one bag the same as the small soup. The soup had no flavor and the rice was little better. I preface reviews of Chinese restaurants with the proviso that there are no excellent Chinese restaurants in the Woodbridge area. Usually everything designated spicy is extremely spicy even if you order the dish medium or mild. The fried meat dumplings, wonton soup, and hot and sour soup are very good. The Chengdu Kung Pao Chicken is usually very spicy except for the last time when there was hardly any heat. The chicken is tender but the dish doesn't have the kung pao flavor profile. The Cumin Chicken is very flavorful and hot. The chicken is cooked a little longer than I like. The Chow Ho Fun is good but it needs more of a smokey flavor. There are coupons attached to the menu, so you can get certain dishes for free depending on how much you spend. We usually get the Chicken w. Broccoli for free. I don't love it but the rest of my family does. This is a small take out place with no ambiance. The staff is friendly. read more

Nestled between a Subway and a dismal Peruvian chicken restaurant at Mapledale Plaza, I never expected to find the best real Chinese/Szechuan cuisine I've had in Prince William County. Typical American staples like General Tso's and Beef and Broccoli are all there. Some of my favorite guilty pleasures are represented: Egg Drop Soup, Orange Chicken, Lo Mein etc. That being said, it's not why I'm writing this and if that's what you're getting you can just stop reading. I won't be offended and you'll probably be fine. Now, if you want to explore why I'm giving them 5 stars, it's for the "Authentic Szechuan Special Entree" Menu. This family-owned and operated establishment has yet to steer me wrong on their recommendations. SC5 Cumin Beef/Chicken/Fish - Wonderful blend of spices and fresh veggies with your choice of protein. Peter Chang restaurant serves a similar dish that I actually find inferior to this. SC6 Special Hot Pot Sauce w/Fish Filet (flounder) - Reach and hearty stew, tender flounder fillets perfect for white rice to soak up the flavors with the right amount of heat. This dish is normally common in actual Chinese restaurants that serve "Hot Pot/ Casserole dishes" and is a rare treat to find this far away from Falls Church (Miu Kee, Lotus Garden, Full Kee, XO Taste). SC11 Fried Chicken w/ Dry Chili Pepper - Okay, this blew me away. Lightly breaded small pieces of fried, then sauteed chicken with vegetables. Crisp outside, fat/skin all rendered and just such a satisfying texture. Once again, respectable level of heat. SC13 Fried Chicken w/ Spicy Potato - Same great chicken from above but replace vegetables with potatoes coated with the same spice blend. The potatoes are equally amazing. You simply must try for yourself. The appetizer section also has some items not to be missed that deserve their own section to highlight them being common in good Szechuan, Shanghainese, or Taiwanese, restaurants. A6 Fried Shrimp Wonton - Miniature versions of deep fried Har Gao dumplings you would get at Dim Sum. Served with sweet and sour sauce but best with chili oil (just ask). A8 Chengdu Zhong's Spring Dumpling - Take their meat dumpling filling and place it into a pool of chili oil with sesame seeds and scallions. Delicious. A9 Spicy Wonton - Same sauce, but with thick wonton wrappers you would expect from a Chinese take out place. Has a slightly different seasoning for the meat filling. Still a great choice to start your meal. A11 Meat Dumpling - Litmus test for a good carry out place. Satisfying and filling if you are really hungry for a simple dumpling. Pan fried or steamed is up to your personal preference and how long you expect to let them travel. There are more items that I want to try off the appetizer menu that I just haven't had the time to explore: Sesame Balls, Beef and Tendon w Sichuan Sauce and the list goes on. No matter what, get some chili oil and apply liberally to your food. It's prepared in house. I can vouch for their vegetables being fresh because they're constantly cutting them for their dishes and have a steady stream of foot traffic at lunch. Szechuan style food tends to be spicy or uses Szechuan Peppercorns (Smoky numbing spice). Tread lightly if sensitive or averse to them. Again, just ask. Items with the peppercorns are labeled on the menu differently from the normal spicy items. There are a few tables where you can seat a few of your friends or coworkers. Dining in means they'll serve entrees on real plates which are a nice touch and a perfect opportunity to really enjoy their fried chicken fresh from the Wok. Kitchen is open and easily visible from the counter which I appreciate. My only complaint: I don't live close enough for delivery (4 miles). Heads up: Closed Tuesdays. read more

I'm excited that I can get authentic Szechuan dishes at this restaurant. I no longer have to make long trips into Fairfax or Alexandria for my fix and that makes me happy. I had the spicy wontons, beef and beef tendon with Szechuan sauce, and fish filet with soft tofu and spicy sauce. All were delicious and right on point with what I was expecting with spice level and satisfyingly numbing. If you've had Szechuan food before, you won't be disappointed with the food here. DING! DING! DING! Hear ye, hear ye.... NoVa fellow people! This foodie town crier got an announcement to make. There's a fantastic Chinese restaurant in a hidden Woodbridge area. Located in a plain plaza and in a simple disguise on the outside. We had four dishes to go. They are: Mapo tofu, kungpao chicken, sesame chicken, and vegetable mushu. Truly enjoyed the kungpao because the sauce is well sauteed and tasted the hint of ginger. Which brings out unique flavor to a common meal. All our dishes were delicious.
