This place is the best. I've been to the one in Fairfax, but this one just opened so we decided to check it out. When we walked in, the gentleman asked how we heard about it. We told him the above. He seemed very excited they had just opened and gotten their liquor license about a week ago. We sat down and did the usual. The service was very fast. They were very attentive to check in on us. The staff is super attentive and super nice. Our food comes out very quickly when we place our orders. The only thing that I would complain about is when you put your name on the waitlist, it is never the accurate time that we have to wait. For example if we call ahead and put our name on the waitlist or go on the website and put her name on the waitlist when we get there we have to wait an extra 30 minutes to an hour to be seated. I love visiting NOVA because there are so many great Asian food places. Hot Spot changed my life! For an AYCE place, the price is super reasonable. If you have a large party, everyone has to be present. Depending on how many are in your group, you can have 2-3 different burners to choose different soups. I personally like the kimchi and Shabu shabu broths. There's also a bar in the back for you to make you own custom sauces with suggested mixtures on a flashing screen. As for the protein, there are so many choices of meat, seafood, veggies, and noodles to satisfy your every need. Have been here twice and each time the service was great, they have a great setup for the soup/broth's. He properly explained how to fill out the food card as it was never explained to me the first time and provided wonderful service (he was covering the bar area). Once the first round of people are seated, it's a very long wait so I was advised to sit at the bar for no wait (although there were a few empty tables). There are many options to pick from. I've tried the mango and pineapple Soju. They taste great, my favorite so far is pineapple. It's easy to order too much food so definitely go with 2-3 items at a time. read more

I called in beforehand to ask if they take reservations around 7:30 pm and because it was my mother's birthday and I wanted to take her to a good hot pot place. I relayed this information over the phone because I was scared I was if this was a first come first serve place that I would get a long wait and if so I would've went some where else. Came here on a Sunday night with my family for the first time, and the first impression was a boring and non-greeting attitude from the big Asian dude (manager?) who was seating us. After being seated, our waiter however was really good and nice and fast so I liked his presence. The food: food was great I guess but the meat (pork, lamb, beef) would always taste the same at every hot pot restaurants since they are just the same type of meat being cooked in hot water. Other than meat, other foods/options were served in a very small size and portion for some reason. Like dumplings, fish balls, and fish tofu were insanely small and were not appetizing at all. And there are not many options of things to put in your broth. Service: it was terrible. Besides that one waiter, everything else was terrible service-wise. We didn't get all of the things we ordered, and the things that we ordered took a long time to come. And that Asian manager always had an attitude even when he wasn't actively being mean. For example, I asked him to put away an empty bowl, and he just grabbed and walked away without saying anything and his face was grumpy. But the thing that annoyed me the most was after we left. We were on the car and backing out of the parking spot, and this Asian manager dude was following and stopping us to say that we didn't pay enough even though we made sure that we counted the cash correctly and even included tips in the cash so it should be more if not the same as the charge. So we told him to count again, and it turned out that he/the restaurant counted wrong. BUT INSTEAD OF TAKING RESPONSIBILITY HIMSELF AND SAYING SORRY TO US, he just mumbled in his mouth, "the server counted wrong" while looking down and avoiding eye contact with us. Went here on a Saturday night at like 10:30 PM and my group was the last one to leave at around 11:30 PM. This place is all you can eat (AYCE), and there are a modest amount of options for hotpot/ shabu shabu here. There is a good variety of soups, meats, veggies, and additional add ons that you can place into the pot, and an excellent sauce bar. The service was also top notch as well, and the servers were always asking if we needed anything, even if we were there super close to closing. If you want something really different for your next meal - this is it. I went to Hot Spot for lunch - and being bored with the usual that I frequent, I wanted to try something different and new. I was dining alone; and arrived at the restaurant just before noon. I was enthusiastically greeted when I came in and quickly seated. As a newbie, the waiter was extremely informative and patient with me. The individual induction heating elements really was cool - putting the pot right in my dining area and making it my own little kitchen. You are allowed to choose three items from each of the categories (meats, seafood, starches, vegetables) and the food is "all you can eat". I didn't even take advantage of the "three" from each category - fearing it would be too much food - and I was right.. the amount of food brought to me in the first flight was immense. I tried the vegetable soup base (it was the tamest) and it really became more and more flavorful the more I cooked in it. Next time I will be adventurous and try something more exotic. Sauce bar was well stocked and available for whatever mixes you might come up with. I left stuffed - and didn't get another helping of anything. This is a great, fun adventure. I could see it being a highly entertaining location for a couple or groups - just be sure you plan enough time - even with the lightning fast service, cook time and me moving through all of the food took a little over 75 minutes to finish my meal - I wasn't going to let any of the extremely fresh food go to waste. Cost is a bit high for a casual lunch - $23... but it was right on the money for the amount of food you get and the quality. The quality of the food was fine but everything else was undesirable. My wife and I went in, we said it was our first time there, and we were asked if we wanted individual, or family style. We assumed that family style would have been a reasonable portion for two people but we were wrong. We picked our ingredients, which all come out on a plate, and you assemble your own soup. This model seems okay but the bowl that you eat out of is about a third the size of a small Pho bowl, very cumbersome to eat out of. Once we got our check, it was $71 plus tip; We ended up paying $85 for two bowls of soup for lunch, terrible. We would have had a better experience for half the price had we gone to a typical Pho or Ramen restaurant. If you're ever fallen for a "tourist trap" type of restaurant where your cocktail ends up being $20, when you expected to pay $6, that's how I felt when I left. Will never go back. read more

For an establishment that has been open for a good amount of time, it's pretty disappointing how disorganized the Chantilly location is... I'm sure the food is fine; I'm sure the waiters/waitresses are fine as well. First and foremost, it's probably our fault for going on a Friday night - prime time for dinners. My main issue and annoyance was with the host. It was the same gentleman that works at the Fairfax location; so I was certain he should know how to run the show. I was wrong. There is no adequate system of assisting people during their arrival. He didn't acknowledge people coming in... He didn't write names down... He didn't have any type of organized way of addressing people. A party of 3 shouldn't have to wait over 25+ minutes to be addressed. People are coming and leaving... The least they could do would be to write names of those that came first. Although I'm happy the business is doing well, but this type of nonsense shouldn't happen for a restaurant like this. My advice for now? 1) Go to the Fairfax location 2) Don't go during popular lunch/dinner times 3) Wait a month or two for the Chantilly one to get their stuff together read more

I wonder if I'm the only one who cares about this... But this place consistently lets their back kitchen people serve the food with no gloves. I don't typically have a problem with the raw meat seeing as it gets cooked and the bacteria gets taken with it, but they consistently come over with our rice with their fingers dug into the bowl/the rice. Then you'll see the same people stick their hands and fingers up near their nose, wipe sweat off themselves, and also see them handling cleanup and trash. Who knows if they've washed their hands!!! We've complained once in the past, and they admitted that they had gotten complaints in the past for it and that the back kitchen people are supposed to wear gloves. Don't remember the name of the guy who we talked to. The employees around the bar don't seem to enforce it regardless. We used to love this place but it seems like it's gone downhill. Not to mention that they always forget food items you ordered, and it takes forever for the food to come out nowadays... even when there's only maybe 10 people in the restaurant!
