As a first hot pot place that we came to in VA, we found this place. Hot Spot is an AYCE hot pot and well, I thought it was pretty great. The price of this place isn't bad, but I think the only thing that was lacking was the sauce bar. It was a bit smaller, but I thought the broth was flavorful along with the options of food. For AYCE, you can't go wrong. You can kind of just choose and pick what you want to eat and just keep going until your heart's content (or your belly is bursting). Inside, there's plenty of seating and everything is individual hot pots so you're not sharing a pot or anything. I don't mind sharing, considering everything is literally boiled. It seemed that they decided to leave up the COVID safety measures, which I didn't mind. Service was good, our servers were very attentive and if we needed anything we could just ask. As far as price, I thought it was reasonably well priced as far as any other AYCE. I think there are more expensive options and places, but this place hits the spot for the essentials. Hidden on a mall strip and unless you are looking for it, it's not all that visible. I've come over a few times. It's inexpensive and you get lots of food your the price. Individual hot pot boiler at your table, you chose your broth and then your protein and veggies. You control the temperature and way you want your pit cooked. My friend took me out for my birthday dinner and because I always have a craving for hot pot we went to Hot Spot. It was not busy for a Monday evening, but they were very slow at bringing our orders out. By the time we made our sauce and our soups were boiling, they still have not brought out the meat. We had to flag a server down two separate times to remind them, which was a bit annoying. The wall decor made the interior appear modern, but the barriers in between tables made the place look dull and cramped. TL;DR: Good variety of delicious food, polite staff that are very patient with those of us ignorant of how All-You-Can-Eat Korean Hot-Pot works, and reasonably priced for what you get, especially if you're very hungry. Just be aware that the crab and shrimp still have the shells on, and your hands will get very messy peeling them -- ask for extra napkins. ;-) My brother-in-law was coming to town, and wanted Korean BBQ, but for whatever reason *said* Korean Hot-Pot, which he wasn't actually familiar with. (Nor were my wife and I, much. I knew how the cooking worked, but not the ordering, etiquette, etc. Not going to explain it all here though.) Fortunately, Hot Spot is fairly close to our house, about a mile away, and the AYCE aspect seemed great for him (quite an appetite), so I made reservations. They say they take reservations for 8+, but sometimes they'll reserve for smaller parties. We were seated fairly quickly, at a family-style table as I had reserved. (One central bowl, optionally divided down the middle so you can have two broths, which we did. Other tables had individual bowls.) It took a bit of time to figure out what to order, but they were very patient and took the orders for some parts while we figured out others (meat, veg, starches, etc.). The orders arrived fairly quickly, and the staff were very good about checking whether we still had enough broth to cook in. Everything was delicious and fresh. We did make some rookie mistakes though. With a family bowl, it can be hard to keep track of who wants what (especially if they don't put it in themselves), and retrieve everything from the bubbling broth so they don't get overcooked. Don't feel like you have to order as many things from each section as they allow, or you'll fill up on noodles and veggies while there are more meats to explore -- we wound up only putting in one round of orders, much to my surprise, and barely finishing that. We will probably be back, but saving it for special occasions -- my wife doesn't eat much, and I shouldn't, so AYCE places aren't usually a good deal for us, but for a splurge, or with some additional friends, or if we happen to be very hungry, sure. read more

They offered high quality hot pot ingredients including thinly sliced prime ribeye beef, scallops, octopus, squid, king oyster mushrooms along with all the staples like puffed tofu, fish balls, and a variety of vegetables and noodles. They also had a self serve build your own sauce station. The scallops tasted slightly fishy and too blanch since they arrived in a frozen block but other than that all the ingredients were delicious. DINNER - 32.99 I got the SHABU SHABU BROTH soup base, which was lightly salted and flavorful. I definitely drank lots of the broth throughout because the veggies and meats only added more flavor to it. I would recommend giving all the meats, seafoods, starches and vegetables a try if possible. Our table of four tried more than half of the available items, but I'll list my recommendations: + PRIME RIBEYE BRISKET + FATTY BRISKET + LAMB + QUAIL EGGS + FISH TOFU + DUMPLINGS - super tiny, lol, like you can eat 4-5 in one bite + SQUID - great texture! + WIDE VERMECELLI - loved the chewy texture + WATERCRESS - we got lots of this + ENOKI MUSHROOM + NAPA + BOKCHOY + WOODEAR MUSHROOM + LOTUS ROOT We also enjoyed the sauce bar greatly! We've been coming here for many many years. I decided to take the family out to a nice delicious dinner on new year's eve. Service staff, as well as food were excellent as usual. The manager on duty (initially, I never thought someone like that could be an actual manager), however, was very rude during the course of dinner where he came by our table and literally yelled at my wife that her pot was "burning material" and to turn it off. I was sitting next to my her at the table and no, her pot wasn't "burning material." She had plenty of broth and she was simply trying to boil all of her food properly to ensure that all of her food was cooked well. Sure, if the manager was concerned that she might burn her food, he could have been much nicer about it rather than having such a rude and condescending tone. I was so shocked at his behavior initially that I had missed the chance to say anything. But later during the night, I had asked one of the servers to get the manager. This is when I found out the rude person was actually the manager. We had a brief exchange about his training and about why his behavior was unacceptable. While he seemed to apologize, he seeemd to have a very smug attitude about it and it was clear he did not mean his apology. He will need some additional training from upper management. We love coming to Hot Spot and it was disappointing to see someone like that could be the manager (didn't ask what his name was), demonstrating such unprofessionalism and rudeness. Saw this place on Groupon and went with my fiancé and friend a week ago for Saturday lunch. Called to make reservations and they do not take it for small groups. However, there were plenty of open tables for us which had both individual small and large family style hot pot grills. They were very COVID friendly with plexiglass between many tables, all wear masks, and they take temperatures of all patrons which is greatly appreciated. Perhaps soon, if they feel comfortable, they could check vaccination cards as well but this is not quite a commonplace practice yet. We chose the family style hot pot and got both Shabu Shabu and Tom Yum Broths. We chose with Prime Ribeye Beef, Lamb, and Beef Tongue for the meats. Our fish was Tilapia and Flounder. The starches were Udon, Ramen, and Rice Cakes. We also chose Fish Cakes in the Misc Meats category. The six veggie items we picked were Chinese Broccoli, Bamboo Shoots, Baby Corn, Enoki Mushrooms, Straw Mushrooms, and King Oyster Mushrooms. The location is in a strip mall in the left corner, plenty of parking and down the street from Marumen. As you walk in the interior decor is nice, the bar is on the left, all the complimentary sauces is on the rear of the building, and they have table seating as well as center bar seatings. The way it's set up on each table, everyone gets their own induction cooktop and the pot is inserted through the table. Per table, you are allow 3 items per category per order all you can eat but items aren't eaten you will still be charge. You have 6 variety of broths to choose from and you can also sample all 6 as you finish your first choice. The staff and our server Roselyn was very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. I came here recently with some friends. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The tables are larger than normal tables to accommodate the burners and space needed for all of the food ordered. It looks like they are following all of the COVID precautions such as wearing masks. I'm not quite sure about tables being spaced 6 ft apart though. The Fairfax location is smaller than the Chantilly location and it doesn't look like the seating was reconfigured from its original layout other than the addition of some protective barriers hanging between some of the smaller tables. It was practically a full house when my group came. Despite my initial apprehension, I did eventually begin to feel semi-comfortable with eating without a mask in an enclosed space. I think I would still prefer either a more spaced out dining experience. The food and sauces were still good. Make sure to have a phone with you so you view their online menu. Once you "scan" the QR code on the corner of the table with your photo app, a drop down directing you to the menu appears. Despite sometimes asking for double servings of items like meats, it looks like we received single servings each time. This would normally be fine if we were a smaller group or had been eating for a while, but that wasn't the case with us. This is the second time I've come to Hot Spot. The option to have a shared pot or an individual pot is pretty convenient. The veggie portions are smaller than O My Hot Pot but they are fresh and they refill them very quickly upon request. The meat variety is fresh and great! If you've never done hot pot make sure to ask them for some guidance. They aren't the most talkative staff but they will show you the sauce bar and explain the soup base. Hot Spot is one of my favorites and my parent's favorites, too. I would honestly give them a 3 stars because recently I noticed the topping selection has either lessened or changed. At first I thought it was just the enoki due to FDA, but even the king oyster mushrooms were cut way smaller than usual and scallops were much smaller, too. However, I am bumping up to 4 stars because our server, Kim was absolutely amazing. She has provided phenomenal service. From greeting, explaining, and checking on our table for our topping orders. She was great with our refills, too. I asked for butter (very odd request) but she made it happen! She deserves to be recognized for her hard work. It was off that every time the brisket arrived, the serving amount had been inconsistent. At one point I questioned if brisket was brought to the table because the second set of brisket looked completely different size, cut, and color from the first batch. Nonetheless, hot spot is still one of my favorites because they really do have one of the best Szechuan broths. I'll come back again and again still because of how great their broth is. I came here with friends on their recommendation for hot pot on a cold fall weekday evening. It was my first hot pot experience and I didn't know what to expect. The restaurant was a little tough to find in the corner of a strip mall but not too bad. Plenty of parking and surprisingly crowded late on a weeknight! I'm not a huge fan of East Asian food but the all you can eat and customization parts were really interesting to me. I really had a great time learning the process of hot pot and cooking the food! It was a ton of food and delicious! Service was very nice and helpful, but I would have liked if they had provided us more instruction on what to do, how to cook, how to order etc. Hot pot (not sure if here or in general) isn't that intuitive and luckily I had my friends to give us tips and instruction. One person in our party's broth boiled over and got all over his clothes and the floor and they were quick to help clean up, but it could have been potentially dangerous. We came to check this place out on a recommendation from a colleague. My friend is a writer for NOVA Mag & they're always looking for local gems, so I brought her with me. The food was good & our server was pleasant & attentive. However we won't be back for several reasons. First their restrooms are disgusting. There was fresh AND dried pee stains on the seats, pink/red soap stain ran down the wall & ended in a large mess on the floor & no soap left to wash your hands with. If they don't clean the bathroom, which the guests can see...how clean are the areas the guest CANT see? Second the sauce bars labels were written on the glass in what looked light chalk pen & had long ago flaked off so you don't know what more than half of the sauces are. This is such an easy & simple thing to refresh, made me wonder what other things that are more time consuming & labor intensive, also get ignored... Third & final was the behavior of who we assume was the manager. Even before we asked for assistance he had invaded my friends personal space & chastised her about her burner not being on...it didn't feel helpful, it felt smug & rude. After telling us not to be "afraid to ask him for help" he seemed reluctant to actual help us when there was confusion about the drinks we thought we'd ordered vs. what we received. He then continued to stare at my friend throughout the evening, constantly stopping by our table. It was so incessant that it stopped feeling helpful & started feeling passive aggressive. Do not judge a book by its cover. This restaurant is located next to a laundry mat and i thought I had shown up at the wrong location when I first arrived. There is a reason why people wait to eat at this restaurant. They have the freshest ingredients and so many options. Whether your vegan, vegetarian, or a meat eater ... there's something for you!! They have individual hot pots and they also have family style hot pots. I also love that they have traditional alcoholic beverages like Hite beer and soju.
