No. No. No. Never again. I came for the sauna only and this place is old and overpriced. It took that Sauna room 10 mins to heat up and has the most annoying buzzing nose. So if you're looking for a peaceful steam room, this is not the place. read more

Well, where to start. Here is a realistic accounting of my recent experience. We had these spa rooms in Illinois back in the 90s. For some reason, all of them closed. Maybe a liability issue or they attracted unsavory characters. I thought they were the best thing ever, and obviously, the idea originated probably in the California area (this version of it). They were usually attached to a place that actually sold spas. They were a great place to get away for an hour or two with your girlfriend or significant other, almost like a day spa experience or an occasional treat. I was in the area for work, and I thought it would be a great way to finish my day after some hard physical labor. I know these places are geared more towards couples and parties, but I like the fact of having a private spa all to myself. I traveled about an hour to come to this location. It has a website that gives you some information, and the place was pretty easy to find. The website said they only took cash, so I had to find an atm down the street. But, when entering the place, I saw that they actually accept debit cards now. I wish I knew that. I knew pretty much what to expect from the website coming into the place with rules and the rates per hour. Coming in, it was dressed up like a forest for some reason. I guess they are trying to get you in a tropical mood. The large empty room you come into almost seems like a huge waste of space. Then you see the large bulletproof plastic main window off to the left. Guess they must have had some problems before (they are open pretty late). The person at the desk wasn't the most pleasant person you had ever met. The person didn't ask me if it was my first time or try to explain anything to me, only that I would get a call on the room phone when there were 10 minutes of my time left. Dealing with the bulletproof window and the small door for the towels, almost seemed like it was a drug or bank transaction rather than a relaxing experience. You also have to give a $20 deposit or your driver's license for the two scratchy towels that they give you. Guess those have been walking off too. I paid for two hours because I just wanted to relax for a while without being bothered. The lady gave me a metal ring with a number on it. Went to my assigned numbered room. It was pretty clean and well-lit in the entrance of the room. There aren't any lights over the spa area or inside the spa. I liked the fact that you could dim the room lights. There are some signs in the room to tell you what switches do what. The spa seemed to be circulating the water, but it wasn't that hot. I turned on the switch for the spa and the sauna that was in the room. There were some hooks on the wall for your clothes. But, all your other stuff has to go on the bed, the wooden deck, or on the floor. Although I have to say, the wall clock encased in Tupperware over the door was a nice touch. The showerhead on the wall that faced the bed and kind of sprayed into the center of the tiled floor area. I wish somebody would have told me that it sprayed almost clear all the way over to the bed area because that was where my shoes were on the floor. After showering, I maneuvered over to the spa. This in itself was kind of hard because the floor is now wet, and there aren't any grab rails near the shower or on the wall leading over to the spa. The spa had much of a froth going on, probably from the chemicals they have in it. Sitting in the spa, the water was warm but not that hot. The jets also weren't that powerful, almost like someone breathing their breath on you. The water wasn't that warm, so I decided to try out the sauna. The sauna interior was all wood. Many customers took it upon themselves to carve their names and initials in the wood. I guess I was just brought up a little better and don't damage other people's property. Even with the sauna door closed, it really didn't get that hot. It was on; you could feel some heat coming out of the electric heater. I went back to the spa. Guess what, still not hot. Sitting in the spa was not relaxing because of the six inches of foam on the water surface. You really couldn't rest your head on the edge of the spa because you would have foam in your face. It has been about an hour at this point; you would think that one of these two things in the room would at least be hot by now. The water that I dripped into the sauna floor area wasn't even evaporating. This was such a disappointing experience that I didn't even stay for my whole time and just decided to leave. I didn't say anything to the staff because I didn't really want to talk to them. Needless to say, I have had better experiences in other places. If you ever find yourself in the Chicago area, we have a couple of places called "Sybaris" or "Champaign Lodge." They have pool suites. Check them out. read more

Came here for the first time yesterday after a long day of paint balling (like a boss). I was a bit worried because some of the reviews call out poor conditions or mean staff - but I found this place to be in good shape, clean, and the staff very friendly and helpful. I noticed all the reviews are from over a year ago, maybe Yelp should get the with the program and show more relevant reviews that are more recent and maybe some folks should give this place a second chance. They give you a choice of a room with a sauna or sun light - same price I think. I picked sun light - it was very chill and the roof retracted (so if wanted I could go more or less on the opening) All said and done being able to relax quietly in a clean hot tub for an hour and half at the end of long day was exactly what I needed. read more

Lovely valentines night me and my mate had, after dinner we wanted to lounge and relax and THATS EXACTLY WHAT WE DID. It's so quiet and relax we didn't want to leave/ get out the tubs. We had a chance to rent out the skylight suite, the view and atmosphere was perfect for that wet chilly night. Definitely coming back and buying more time instead of an hour. Hot tropics staff provide towels, they have snack and beverages that can be bought there as well. Since I don't have a Jacuzzi in my backyard, I came to this place to relax my muscles from a few days of interior painting. Plus I wanted to sweat in their sauna. I feel that the price is excellent for what you get. $25/hr, but if you go before 5pm, you get an hour and a half. So $25 for an hour and a half of sweating, soaking and relaxing. I will say that I don't feel that the sauna got very hot, but after about 25 minutes it did seem to warm up a bit. The room was clean. And even though I didn't feel comfortable using their bed (nor did I want to since I can lay down at my own house), it looked very clean, actually everything did. The décor and items may be dated, but I was there to relax in the Jacuzzi. Call me naïve, but I never thought of this place being the spot for "ladies of the evening". Never once did I have thought until my friend mentioned it. Now it just makes sense and she may have ruined it for me. read more

I used to go here all the time but now i dont think ill be back. I have a service dog which helps me still enjoy the activities i like to do. I tried to go here for an hour & was told service dog or not he couldnt come in. Then the "manager" up front after i told her why i had a service dog proceeds to say rudely "if you have seizures maybe you dont need to be here" almost laughing at my condition. dangit I missed the great yelp deal, well I didn't have time for an extra half hour anyway this time but whoa I woulda love it. I think its a great place. On the outside not soo much there were a couple weird tweakers pulling out there hair outside and walking in gives you that shady motel appeal but its actually what I wanted once I really went all the way into the room area. The bathroom is very clean. The options of the different scents were very nice and different. There's some unique things about this place I liked personally. Its not really your fancy appeal type place but the name fits because it does sort of have the tropics appeal to it. I actually love the temperature of the water in the hot tub . Most places get too warm for me and I sorta feel like passing out so this place was actually perfect for me. It doesn't get too hot but it is definitely warm. I like the stereo mounted on the wall. I could pick any station I wanted and it came in very clear with perfection and great quality. I could actually see the cleaning lady cleaning the rooms and thought wow she's so thorough, quite refreshing to see. I asked her some things and she was very helpful. The staff here is very nice. You can get sodas and snacks here too. The bed is very nice, bigger then even some of the fancy places. The people here have a sense of humor I like too. I like the guys shirt "RENT BY THE HOUR" ha ha haha goodtimes bro! I would like to say I'll be back again, I would like to come back that's for sure. My Cousin and I visited the Hot Tropics private hot tubs and sauna suites in San Lorenzo Ca, yesterday afternoon for our girls day out, we each got a private room next to each other and the experience of the personal time the relaxation the Ambience of the room, felt like a real treat and i really felt i found a true way to give myself the self care everyone is always recommending we give ourselves. Both my cousin and I agreed the rooms were clean the hot tub was clean and at a great temperature, jets had great Pressure & all worked. OK so heres the deal: you go in with someone else (2 people total) and you get in for $40 ($20/person). they give you a room with a bed, shower, steam room, hot tub, and a sky light (if they have one available). So $40 for 2 people for ONE hour. try to get the one with sky light because the chlorine-ish steam will escape and you will be able to breath. They also sell water, Snapple, and other soft drinks. parking is kinda creepy since there are no light in the lot. THEY ONLY ACCEPT CASH - only downfall. But after a date or clubbing or what not, perfect place for a night cap... just make sure your partner, significant other is open to place like this. OK, I'm spoiled. When I think "spa," I think of being pampered. Without a long commute. So we figured we'd try the closest hot tub establishment to the new house. Well, it was an adventure. But I sure wouldn't classify it as classic spa treament. Hot Tropics is to Piedmont Springs what Motel 6 is to the Hilton. You pay the lady behind the security glass, and you get a private room that's seen a lot of action. If you're lucky, you won't find any souvenirs of such action. Or get mugged in the waiting room. Parking is ample there's side parking, in the back, and on the street. The cashier was very friendly and patient as it was our first time in this establishment. We got the room with a sunroof and it was pleasant. There was a radio an open space to shower before we got in the tub and the tub itself was nice. My only thing is it looks like the walls need a little TLC but we enjoyed and appreciated that the room was clean. read more
