Psy Spa is one of my favorite local places to go when I need to completely relax and reset. ‍ You will seriously leave this place feeling like you have NEW SKIN. I usually get the #5, and sitting in the sauna and hot tub afterward is sooo relaxing. But the #1 is definitely worth it too! This is the kind of place where you can actually spend some time, unwind, and leave feeling refreshed from head to toe. One of my favorite little gems is that I also come here just to get my hair washed. Sometimes I don't want to go through the whole salon experience and sit bent back over a shampoo bowl -- I just want my scalp and hair thoroughly washed and to RELAX. This was my first time trying out this place. I wasn't sure what to expect. We were greeted and given a small basket with a robe and two towels a number and locker. No shoes...super weird. The locker room is standard. The facilities are simple, a sauna, hot tub and cold plunge. I got the 1B package. It consisted of a body scrub, facial, hair wash, milk treatment and massage. It was a 1 hour and 30 min session. This was the unexpected part. Not used to being completely nude. And nude you are. To use the hot tubs anything you are nude. The services were also unexpected. The pressure used to do the body scrub and massage was way too hard. Every time I asked for lighter touch or to avoid an area she would laugh and swat my hand away. Sunny came and got me promptly at 9:30 and she did a great job with the pressure and massage. I didn't expect much for the massage but she was great. Had great pressure and she tried to work out my knot in my shoulder. Will definitely come back. Great little spot for the east bay. They take payment upon check in and there is a 4% fee for cards. Psy Spa is my favorite and most accessible k spa in the East Bay. I have been to nicer facilities in the greater Bay Area, but by far, they have the kindest staff with the gentlest touch (read: good scrub and massage where you don't feel like you're being slapped around). 60 minutes is never enough for a service; I'd recommend going with their 90 minute packages for an experience that'll make you feel as if no stone was left unturned. I'm so relaxed after a visit to the spa. The $110 mini delight package was a great introduction for a first timer, included massage OR body scrub, seaweed wrap and hair wash. I chose a massage because I could use some relaxing and getting my mind off things. When my massage started my head was full of stuff and I needed to clear it out. A bit into it, I was so relaxed that I didn't have any thoughts anymore besides thinking how great this experience is. Seaweed wrap was a full body gel applied on, no actual wrapping Really good job and hard work for the staff (tip your staff)! Wet area is gender based: hot tub, cold pool (not freezing super cold like other places, more like just cool and I'm ok with that), showers, steam room, dry sauna. Shared co ed space for the dry rooms such as Himalayan salt room, stone room and jade room. The Himalayan room was small can only fit 2 people and the same 2 people were in there the whole time so I didn't get to try. I was confused and had questions regarding locker and uniform and the procedure. Maybe that can be explained a bit but the front desk was helpful if you just ask 4% FEE FOR CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS. There's a sign at the front desk, I didn't see it, wish someone said it verbally before I charged Free easy parking A Male friend did his thing separately. I have been here three times, and each visit was fantastic. The most recent service I received was a couple's massage with my girlfriend. I was fortunate to have Bob as my masseuse. I typically request very hard pressure. Unfortunately, most masseuses will understandably tire out before 30 minutes and then they coast through the rest of the session. Not Bob - this man kept that very hard pressure I so desperately sought throughout the session and he put all of his energy into my treatment. He was communicative and ensured I was comfortable the entire hour. Honestly? It was one of the best massages I've ever had. My experience here was great and impressive as it was my first time at a Korean day spa. I came for my birthday seeking relaxation and rejuvenation. Upon entering, you are given towels / locker info & proceed to the locker / dressing room. You have options of dry sauna, steamed, meditation rooms, jacuzzi, Himalayan salt, Jade, etc. It's not the most spacious but it gets the job done. I could imagine an ideal time to go would be earlier in the day or mid-day. They are open pretty late until 10, you can do walk ins to use their amenities but each service like massage or facial requires appointment. I paid a deposit before hand and you cannot cancel within 48 hours. The spa is nothing extravagant as they don't have a restaurant but I love it since it's in the East Bay, no need to go far like in the city or SJ. I received the Aroma #2 package which included: time using the amenities, deep body scrub, massage, facial, and shampoo/conditioning treatment. These left my body & skin feeling refreshed! My partner visited Psyspa on August 17th at 6:30 PM for a #1 B Special Package (male guest). He said that when getting into the facility, the environment did not appear very clean or sanitary. He went for a body scrub and when he asked the staff member, Lee, whether the scrubber being used was new, he stated that it was a used product. He only asked him because he saw the scrub and wanted to make sure this wasn't what was going to be used on him. This was extremely concerning and unhygienic, so he declined the scrub and requested to go directly to the massage instead. The massage itself was acceptable. On the drive home, he started to develop an itching and burning sensation on his neck and taking a look, we see some kind of red, raised irratiation. There was also a scratch on his arm. This experience, which was supposed to be relaxing, instead caused him a lot of anxiety and discomfort. Given the unsanitary practices observed and the adverse reaction experienced, we felt compelled make this review. I've been coming to this place for the last 10 years, for scrubs, massages and soaks. I had loved it because you can drop in for a massage anytime or call the night before and get a booking easily. The facilities are still good. However the last 3 massages I've gotten were terrible and left me more stressed than before. The one yesterday was one I stopped them halfway because it was so bad and painful. The person did not know what she was doing, she was stepping on my big toe instead of my feet, she was jerking my neck as if to crack it ( and it was unsafe, and not pleasant) and when I asked her to change what she was doing because it hurts, she didn't speak English, and when I asked to have the front desk come in to translate, her companion told me she knew what she was doing and it was fine. When I told the front desk after then massage they were nice about it and told me I should have stopped the massage and come out. Hard to do when the masseuse didn't understand I was asking for the front desk. I wish it will get better , but it's been a stretch of bad massages, it seems the turn over is high and the quality is very very hit or miss , If you don't want to get hurt by not sure what level of training a masseuse you might get, then this is not the right one for you. read more

I used to be a regular for the 30min body scrubs and pricing have gone up (dramatically) due to whatever factors. Possibly increase to water rates but $90 now seems a bit steep. Especially, when hot tub isn't hot, toiletries are usually empty and the nice part of the spa is the remodeled lobby and locker areas. The better deal is to get a body scrub with a massage but keep in mind the Korean massages are more acupressure with quick movement vs smoothe movements and focusing on specific areas. So if you're not used to varying pressure ((using their elbows, knuckles) this isn't for you. ** 3.5 stars ** Overall, the body scrubs at PSY are effective in sloughing off dead skin and you come out with smoothe, polished skin. I will continue to visit but not as often as I once did or go drive further to a place with better amenities. Bring your own toiletries. I left this morning's appointment with red marks, scratches, and a burning sensation on my neck and shoulder area -- that alone should tell you everything about how this service went. I was a loyal customer, visiting about four times a year, so I know exactly what a proper Korean scrub should look and feel like. My attendant today was CC, and the issues were serious. The technique had no structured or methodical approach, jumping randomly across the body instead of systematically completing one area before moving to the next. More critically, she scrubbed my nipples and areolas with such force that I thought they were bleeding -- I couldn't see through my eye covering to confirm. This has never happened to me before, and I won't know the full extent of the damage until I see if scabbing develops over the next few days. I had to physically cover myself and ask her to stop multiple times. They are still extremely sore and painful, and I deeply regret this visit. She also scrubbed my private areas, which is completely inappropriate, and applied the body scrub mitt directly to my face (jawline and chin) -- a rough, body-grade exfoliant that should never touch facial skin, which is significantly thinner and far more sensitive than the rest of the body. This should never happen under any circumstance. To top it off, she made unsolicited comments complimenting my body as she handed me her tip envelope -- which, in hindsight, felt calculated. This has never happened to me in any prior visit and caught me completely off guard. Regardless of intent, commenting on a client's body -- especially in that moment -- is unprofessional and inappropriate. I attempted to address this privately at the front desk and waited 15 minutes, but with only one staff member working and a line out the door, I could not wait any longer. I have since followed up with a formal written complaint instead. I expect management to take this seriously and respond accordingly. It was my first time so it felt strange being nude in the jacuzzi and therapy area but got used to it halfway through. No one was there by the time I was almost done with treatment so there was some privacy. The receptionist gave me a quick tour of the area which was helpful. My son had a slightly different experience, he said there were 2 treatment tables for the scrub with just a small curtain blocking the entry but anyone who walks by can see right in. I got a Korean scrub for $90, and they waived the entrance fee. This place is so clean, and I love that the spa does not use heavy chlorine like American places (Watercourse way in Palo Alto). Watercourse burned my eyes and ruined my senstive skin. After spending a good 4 hours here, I leave after 7pm when traffic isn't heavy. So I treated myself to a bath spa, body scrub for my birthday. This was my first time here, and I didn't know what to expect. All I know is that I was supposed to feel bomb skin once I left and that was true. It was 90 minutes for body scrub massage and facial. It was $180. The facial is not really a facial. It's kind of like a face wash with a small massage . You could also use the steam room and the hot tub just come a little early before your appointment. It was a really good experience, but I would like to have had a more private experience. It was kind of like a car wash. Lol everybody was rolling through getting washed down. They prefer you to be in your birthday suit but you can wear a two-piece bathing suit or just your bottoms if you're not that comfortable. It was like a big room with all these curtains. It look like a whole roll of heads in a bath house. But let me tell you about that scrub bay bay. She scrubbed from the crevices of my toes to the crevices of my fingers. She did not miss one spot. If you don't want to be in pain, ask them for a light scrub. I hear they get really into it. It could be a little painful on your skin. You can also just let them know. Hey lighten up a little bit. No follow up with management to date, no return phone calls or emails. They have completely avoided addressing this experience we had after 3 phone calls and two emails. My first instinct was to leave upon arrival, due to the dank look of the spa and older rude woman at front desk. Also I noted, unsecured areas between men and women's side, in addition anyone can just wander in off the street into the women's side since there is only a sheet type drape covering the door. Not safe and unacceptable should've left immediately. However, arrived with spouse and decided to go forward with treatment since too late to cancel. We requested female masseuse for husband's massage, we made this very clear. However, male staffer showed up in the nude! This spot has easy parking. Making reservations is really easy. Just call in and request your dates. I've been twice. And this last time we went to celebrate my friend's birthday. The women's bathroom/locker room is super clean. The lockers are roomy and easy to use. The robes and slippers are comfortable. It's nice being able to be free and go completely bare or you can keep a bathing suit on if you prefer. There is a dry sauna and a hot one. There are multiple showers that you can stand and wash or a whole area where you can sit and bathe. There is a hot tub and a cold plunge - although I wish the cold plunge was colder! I usually use the shower right after getting out of the sauna and put it on cold water for that refreshing shock! The Korean scrub is so worth it. So good for my skin - feels rough at times but the exfoliation is top notch. The milk face wash felt very hydrating and the massage got me loose and oh so relaxed. To then go and sit in the dry sauna more and then one more cold shower and then hot shower! Luxurious! I also used the rock rooms this time too. I can't remember what they're called but I loved them. If you're not familiar, Psy Spa is a Korean Spa where you can enjoy dry saunas and body treatments like a scrub and massage. The dry saunas/relaxing rooms are communal. This is where you go typically after treatment in the set of pants and shirt they provide you with. Treatment rooms on the other hand, are non-communal. This was a concern of mine first going in as I wasn't sure. I was relieved to know that it was divided by gender - female only, male only. Also, if you're unaware, you're in the nood hence the above thoughts I've listed lol. Embrace it, love yourself, and don't be judgey. I will outline the steps below: 1) Make a reservation by calling the number or walking in. Typically, they ask that you arrive 30-40 min before your scheduled treatment to bathe and utilize the sauna/jacuzzi/cold plunge pool. *Tip: Bring a pair of slippers and maybe a book to read while relaxing. Also consider bringing skincare/makeup with you for when you're all done. 2) Pay upfront for the treatment and they hand you a set of clothes to change into, a towel, and a bracelet used to lock/unlock the corresponding locker. 3) Change out of your clothes. This is when you embrace your body and go nood lol. Everyone is doing it. If youre self-conscious, wrap a towel around you. Don't forget to lock your locker. 4) Shower and please wash up before going in the jacuzzi/sauna/pool 5) Relax and wait for your number to be called 6) Someone will guide you to the wet room and they'll instruct you to rinse again before hopping on a table that's reminiscent of what they have at the doctors office. Prepare for the procedure to come. 7) Get scrubbed down in, around and all over town. There's nothing like getting exfoliated and seeing the dead skin and dirt on the table. Sooo so satisfying. 8) Shampoo, lather and rinse off with warm milk. The best part in all honesty. The warmth feels like a hug. 9) Rinse again and enjoy the buttery smoothness that is your skin. At check in they provide you with a basket with a robe, 2 towels and a paper of rubber slippers. They scurry you to your locker where I fumbled getting undressed and figuring out the locker. Once undressed, you're brought to the showers and then the hot tub soak... once it's your treatment time, your locker number is called and the fun begins! I love the atmosphere, the silence, focusing on your breath, meditating etc etc. however, this kspa was more of a social bathhouse. There were several groups of friends, chatting, laughing and that's okay! I just didn't know that was the vibe but after reading several reviews saying "go with your girlfriends", it kinda makes sense now. The facility is clean and big. The steam room was good as well as the sauna. The sauna was extra hot. Hot tub was hot too and the cold plunge wasn't too cold, which is okay cause it makes it bearable. I was given a free mask since I paid cash (tip: bring cash). I was given a basket with towel, robe, and small towel to sit on. You carry your basket around with you, this was new to me. I had Lee for my scrub and massage. Eek I go to Korean spas frequently but this scrub hurt :/ I always would judge ppl who would comment this but now I've experienced it lol. I would give them 5 stars but the fact that they don't care about talking (when there's signs around) kinda bugs me. It's my escape and I wish other would cherish this moment for themselves but it's not the case. I would suggest them advertising it more of a social bathhouse and take off the be quiet signs. Then the other downfall was how aggressive the lady who did my scrubs was. Would I go again? Maybe. I've gone to Imperial Spa and Pearl Spa in San Francisco. I adore both. The best KSpa in the Bay Area!! Come with your girlfriends for a traditional Korean body scrub and massage... where you will completely scrubbed down, refreshed and detoxed from head to toe!!!... followed by a massage and milk rinse. They have over 20 female therapists here, and all of them are well trained and very good. I have found that Anne, Soo, and Lee are the best, but you really can't go wrong with any of the therapists. The environment is always cleaned and tidy, with filtered water that removes over 90% of bacterias in their hot tub. Always a great experience here. Highly recommend! read more

Want to feel shiny and new from head to toe and everything in between? Think utilitarian and not necessarily a spa. I have been here only a handful of times and this last visit was just the best with Tina. Just the right amount of pressure to know I was getting CLEAN yet not painful. My first visit was 4 days ago. I went with a friend, and we both ooed and ahhed about how much we loved going there. She said it was the most relaxed she felt after a massage. We both got a scrub and massage. I enjoyed myself so much that I went back on the weekend with my partner. Tip: --If you don't speak Korean, I would recommend talking with someone behind the front desk if you are getting a scrub or massage and have any specific needs. They will communicate your needs to the masseuse. Compare to Kabuki, this place does well. Not too bad and it is pretty small. Stopped by after a long day of work and needed a body detox to relax these stiff muscles. Stepped into the steam room first after a quick shower. It was going great for a few couple of minutes alone until this "old" geezer came in, sat quietly and then BEHOLD, he reached forward to caress my thigh. I jerked-retracted my thigh immediately, like "WTF in my head!!" I kid you not! This is what went down! -- I know I'm very handsome and good looking, but if you're trying to get some or convert me, you better be sure you're good looking in return. Otherwise, this is a wrong place and time for that mister. Pretty faces like mine don't mess with..well, you all know the rest of the saying, I'm sure." (Yes! I hear stories about these sort of "bathhouses, but didn't expect this one was like that." -- not from the reviews I've read!) Anywho, I thought nothing of it and being the nice, polite gentleman that I am, I just let it go. He made conversation with me "Gosh, you're so beautiful. You have a nice body." All I can reply back to was "Thank You." He kept making conversation and I'm just like in my head "Gosh, I came here to relax, not make small talks."
