I arrived about 30 minutes after they opened, and my food was hot, fresh, and ready in about 7-10 minutes. While I was eating and watching the World Cup matches, Marion, one of the owners, came over and struck up a conversation. We talked about the different Hot Wings Café locations, and since I live closer to the Sherman Oaks location, he let me know that another family member runs that restaurant. I love supporting true family-owned businesses, and you can genuinely feel that family atmosphere here. Even during the lunchtime rush, there was a steady stream of customers coming in and orders going out, but the staff never seemed overwhelmed. It was easy to tell they have a loyal group of regulars. The young woman working alongside Marion was just as friendly, cheerful, and gracious, whether she was helping customers at the counter or taking phone orders. It's becoming harder and harder to find this level of genuine hospitality, especially at family-owned restaurants. They made everyone who walked through the door feel welcome, and that kind of customer service is something I truly appreciate. I'll definitely be visiting the Sherman Oaks location closer to home, but this Melrose location made a fantastic first impression. Great food, outstanding service, and genuinely kind people. I'm really disappointed because my experience here a couple months ago was good. We dined in and the wings were fresh, flavorful, and it made me want to go back. Yesterday I was nearby so I decided to treat myself. I ordered an 8-piece combo with 4 Mango Habanero wings, 4 plain wings and fries. I paid extra for vegetables and ordered a fountain drink. Unfortunately, this visit was completely different. The food came out lukewarm, almost cold. The fries were soggy, the wings were very small, dry, and overcooked the little amount of meat next to the bone was black. The Mango Habanero barely had enough sauce to even notice the flavor. What made it more disappointing was the price. I paid almost $27 for food that tasted like it had been sitting out and reheated instead of being cooked fresh to order. Meanwhile, I'd highly recommend New York Chopped Cheese & Lets Wing It in Mid City on Venice and Redondo instead. Their wings are bigger, more flavorful and the fries are actually seasoned. During lunch hours you can get wings, fries, vegetables, and a drink for $13 including tax. I really wanted Hot Wings Cafe to be consistent maybe I needed to dine in cause they have to be on their toes when you are in their face. I've been meaning to do my review for Hot Wing Cafe for some years now so here I go! Upon arrival, the inside is very inviting... very old school which I love. There is normally music playing and generally sports on the TVs. As far as parking goes, if there are none right in front of then good luck cuz Melrose stay busy lol. Now to wings.... This place never ceases to impress me with how tasty and well prepared their wings are. They are never BIG fat wings, they are always perfectly sized and flavorful. I personally love the blue cheese, it's homemade and delicious. The customer service is good as well especially from the servers. I have had the mozzarella sticks and fries before and those are also good! The fries could use a bit more salt but overall they do the job! I have tried so many other wing spots in LA and so far nothing compares to this location. Now, I will say that their prices have increased significantly as has everything in the world.... I ordered the boneless (lemon pepper) and asked for it to be lightly seasoned since the last time it was a little over the top. They nailed it. When I first started coming to this location a few years ago, the wings were tiny. I just felt like it wasn't worth the price. But I've gone more recently and they're actually a decent size now. The flavors of the wings are delicious. My favorite is mixing the hot with the lemon pepper! The curly fries are good, you just have to add your own salt. They have different drink options to choose from, including beer. Inside there are tables and TV's. It's less crowded during the day time. The service is good and pretty quick. Omg! I have eaten at this place for years and it's always been amazing. This was the worst order I've ever had. I ordered a 12 piece wings and an order of curly fries. The wings were old and double fried. The French fries were also so old tasting they had no flavor. That's what happens when you double dip them in the fryer. The wings were dry as can be. It was a horrible dinner that cost me $32. The menu says $17.95 on a 12 piece. I was charged $20.28. The fries on the menu are $5.95 and I got charged $6.74. Although they have many things on their menu, I have been getting the same order every single time - large 16 pc. wings, onion rings (SO GOOD) and a beer. Service is always friendly; the food comes out quickly and fresh and amazingly tasty...every time. Their wings have just the right amount of crunch and heat (I always get them HOT). They have a pretty good selection of beer to choose from but it's all just to wash down that perfect heat from the wings. A really deceptive store if you're ordering on Postmates. Buyer beware of their "daily specials" that are actually more expensive per wing than their normal prices. Just shady folks in general. Sadly for them, some people can do basic math. They also switch up buy 1 get 1 deals in a weird way that locks you into buying 2x items even when it's not buy 1 get 1. So there's no way to order 1 order of mozzarella sticks. Try it. You'll see what I mean. You're locked in to buying double the items no matter what, and I'm sure most people aren't even aware when they place their order that they're about to get charged twice. Every year, except during the pandemic years, my boss has ordered hot wings from Hot Wings Cafe for our annual holiday department lunch. It goes without saying, that it has always been a hit with our department. I came in recently to pick up an order and it's the same cozy spot as I remembered from years ago when I often frequented in my younger years. Once I walked in, I was promptly greeted by a friendly associate who went straight to the back to get my order. The restaurant is casual, cozy and is good for a casual hang out or date. I received my order and was surprised at the amount of food I received (ordered through the Too Good to Go app). The wings were made fresh and they were delicious. I did notice that these wings are on the smaller end but for a surprise medium box for $6, it still was a great deal. The seasoning level was perfect here. The bbq was fine, but likely not something I'd get again. Where they lose a star is with the so-called curly fries. The lemon pepper was good but the hot was pretty mild-which was a little disappointing.
