HEY, VEGANS! Check out the photo! I made lazy "fish" tacos with cauliflower bites, bagged salad, and corn tortillas! I'm sure you can make them better, but this is the lazy version, and it works for me! The service is great, and ordering from the app for pick up is very convenient!

Angel and staff were a delight called to order 15 mins before closing and they had called me back but I just went down to store to order. Very attentive and nice service! Thanks so much! I love the blaze and their corn here. It was lively in there with lots of guests enjoying their meal there. I'm happy that my wedges were crispy as well (:

It was after the Fiesta Sabado that I decided to eat somewhere else because the taco lines were too long at the event. So I went to Red Chickz. Small place was not crowded at the time. I ordered me a mild chicken sandwich with fries. FYI this place has LEVEls of spice if you want it spicier. At first glance the fries looked over seasoned but we're not. They were good. The chicken sandwich it's a preference of mine but I would have liked it to have more coleslaw but overall it was good. The sauce was ok. They do have specials on the weekdays.

Red Chickz in Downtown LA is easily a 5-star spot. The chicken was so good and every bite had the perfect crunch. The flavor, the freshness, and the quality were all on point. Definitely one of the best hot chicken spots around. I'll for sure be coming back again. It's a vibe with good food!!!

Horrible service!! I went to the restaurant i ordered my food the lady was not rude but i looked and tried to use the restroom it said out of order. There was a latino man that came inside and asked to use the restroom the cashier opened the restroom with no problem. I asked hey can i use the restroom she says no. Its because i see him all the time. I guess maybe she should have said its because your black and didnt speak spanish. I will never come to this location again that was discrimination at its finest!!

Great chicken tenders spot with a Thursday $2 deal that can't be beat! First the negatives. The location is a little tough because it's DTLA so parking can be a challenge - metered street parking or paid lots. It gets busy and there isn't a ton of room or seating inside and outside isn't the most pleasant. The orders can take a little long. A lot of them are to go orders. Now the positives. If you work nearby, it's a great lunch spot. The tenders are large. 2 would be enough if you're being good on portions. The crunchy batter is fried to perfection. For heat level, i liked the mild the best. It had the best flavor with a touch of spice. I also tried the medium and while it was hotter, it did have any added flavor in fact i felt it took away from the flavor. I like the potato wedges as well and the fried cheese curds were just ok. Workers were nice. I would definitely come here if I was craving chicken tenders a definitely if it was a Thursday. Btw, I happen to have tried Dave's hot chicken a week prior to this and although Dave's is better, it's also way pricier.

Really solid Nashville hot chicken spot! I love potato wedges too so them using that as their side instead of regular fries definitely makes them stand out. Service was fast and friendly, and there is a few spots inside to eat if you'd like but it is a smaller restaurant. The mild level was not spicy so if you want a kick definitely go up a heat level! The loaded mac bowl was probably most popular and was super good!

    Chicken tenders

My friend pointed out that this place had $2 chicken tenders on Thursdays, so we decided to go and try a bunch of them. I also brought four pieces back to my mom because she wanted to try them too and she absolutely loved the medium flavor. She said it was so good and asked for six the next time I go, so I gave her my additional 3 pieces that I was going to eat tomorrow. I think realistically though, this is a good place to go to get 2 pieces and a sauce for $4.50 (the sauces are 50 cents each). I'm not sure how my mom is able to just keep eating these, but the flavor gets a little repetitive after the second piece and it becomes difficult to eat a third. If you feel that way too after trying these, maybe the one without any seasoning could work for you. As far as the chicken tenders go, they are juicy and succulent on the inside, so chances are, they are probably brined. The crispiness is nice too and you get a good crunch with each bite. However, the seasoning choice is a little unusual in my opinion. While it is a flavorful blend, it doesn't have that perfect blend that makes you want to keep eating more and more and more, which you can find at similar places. The service for the food is quick and the ambiance is cool and chill, but you don't find too many people dining in at this location, probably due to the challenges of parking in downtown la. My mom wants me to get more of these, so I guess I'll be going back next week.

Cannot say enough good things about this place. Was recommended by a friend. Long line but moved fast. Friendly service. Large servings. Fair prices. Highly recommend and will definitely return. Unfortunately there are a lot of homeless in the area and parking can be tricky. The corn was my favorite.

Bonfire Chicken Tenders + Homestyle Mac & Cheese

Food was big bussin', ngl. I ordered 3 tenders: 'Bonfire' hot w/ the mac & cheese side. Anthony (servwe) was kind enough to give us complementary cheese tatertots as well The crunch + breading was perfectly crispy & not even remotely dry. The tenders were juicy as hell. definitely 11/10 I would recommend going for medium spice for those that spices out pretty quick.

Was craving a fried chicken sandwich in my endless quest to find a buttermilk-like batter, non-Nashville, non-hot honey bullshit anything, came across this place on Door of the Dash and placed an order, took the plunge. For $16-17 you can get a sando and a side here, whereas at Hilltop Kitchen few blocks east, it's now a whopping 21 bucks tax included just to slap a bird in 2 buns these days, no side. Its also...NO CONTEST after first bite here. This is now officially my favorite chicken sando in DTLA...I always order no heat/spice, and then just slather with Franks buffalo sauce, because I can't stand that chili paste smothering and ruining perfectly cooked, juicy fried crunch of a regular batter. But to each their own. You have 5-6 levels of "heat" if you want, and Nashville till your hearts content. The Dash website had a $6.00 off promo spending $20, so I ordered a tender on the side; it was like getting it free. Wow, what a tender, it was more like a pounder. Gigantic breast piece that was delish, still hot after sitting for me to pick up and bringing back to the office 2 blocks away. The sandwich is a perfect size, great coleslaw, and the pickles aren't sweet (none of the bread-and-butter bullshit, just dill chips here baby.) The side I chose (potato wedges) remind me of the KFC ones, but had a great, "Tommie's-like" seasoning. Very, very good and perfectly fried, to the last one. 5 stars with a bullet, shocked and awed and... relieved. Add to the list of monthly visits of sinful indulgence, if not bi-weekly. Also, they claim all chicken is without antis or hormones; can't think of a single place chick wise that can claim this. Daves? Sucks. And they have zero options for a country style batter like this. Enjoy your 55+-ingredient chlorine washed chick-fill-a-dickpuke waiting in a drive-thru while you read this review.

Just wanted to update my review to say I'm happy this place survived the pandemic and now seems to be thriving again with a robust lunch crowd that I'm always in the midst of each trip down. They also have started to include the DTLA location on all of their fantastic daily and weekly lunch specials; after me yapping at them on social media for too long These guys are great; Check 'em out!

The Red Chickz Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - The Red Chickz

    How is the chicken?

Crispy and juicy! (: No where near being dry. They give pretty big pieces as well so definitely worth a try!

What is in the sauce? I know I can choose the level of spice on the chicken, and it's not the spice that bothers me, but I have an allergy to Chile de arbol (tree chili) and just wanted to know if it's safe for me to eat 😅?

Hi Debbie, I will confirm with our chef tomorrow morning and get back to you.

    Is the chicken halal?

It may be better to call them & ask directly.

People who have been to howlin rays, how does it compare. Is it worth trying still?

Yes Red Chickz is worth trying, especially if you don't feel like waiting two hours for Howlin' Ray's lol. Same concept as howling rays. Plus I believe you can order online. I definitely would recommend it.

Do you guys take online order?

Yes we do through our website theredchickz.com

Do they have a phone number for pick orders? Thanks, how can I order extra sides a la carte online?

We have online order available through our website.

What is the parking situation like?

Hi Brian, We are located in Downtown so all the parking will be street parking.

I thought the restaurant ambience was nice. And after waiting for about 10 minutes, my order came out. They gave me extra sauce but again no explanation on why the extra sauce was provided. As for the food, I thought the chicken was kind of bland. I expected some Sichuan style but hardly any spice on the chicken. Once of the sauces was a Sichuan chili crisp, which gave the chicken more taste. Maybe the chicken was bland because I was supposed to dip it in the sauces? Aside from that, the other sauces were average (ranch and sweet/sour sauce). The salad was definitely a huge miss. They didn't dress the salad properly and only put dressing on top, so I just got a bunch of romaine lettuce at the end. The best part of my meal was the fries, which was crispy and fresh. I got the half Fried and Half Regular Hainan Chicken (regular order) and a side of rice. The chicken was perfect. The fried chicken was perfectly crispy and the steamed Hainan chicken was juicy. The best of both worlds and that Hainan rice made me so happy. Paired with some side sauces which I also enjoyed (Take your pick they are good, my preference was just the chicken by themselves). They also give some broth prior to prepare for the meal, which makes the entire experience so much more enjoyable. Overall, one of the best spots for Hainan Chicken that I have had in a long, long time. I am excited to come back to try their Crispy pork belly and some other offerings which I got a whiff from as I walked in. But if your in the area. Check them out Cheers!

If you're looking for the gold standard of Korean Fried Chicken, this is it. I've tried a lot of…read morespots, but Pelicana consistently hits the mark on texture and flavor. Here is why they earned five stars: The Crunch Factor: The chicken is incredibly extra crispy. Even after being tossed in sauce, that initial bite has a perfect, loud crunch that stays crispy until the last piece. Honey Soy Perfection: The Honey Soy flavor is a must-order. It has the ideal balance of savory and sweet without being cloying. It's glazed perfectly so every inch of the chicken is coated. The Cheese Powder: Don't sleep on the Cheese flavor. It adds a unique, savory richness that pairs surprisingly well with their signature fry style. It's addictive. Quality: The meat is always juicy on the inside, which is the ultimate test for any fried chicken joint. Whether you're doing takeout or dining in, the quality is top-tier. Definitely my go-to spot when the craving hits!

There are a lot of different options on the menu, which was a bit overwhelming for my first time, but we decided on getting a half order of their classic boneless chicken in the signature Pelicana sauce, which was a delicious choice. The chicken was perfectly crispy and juicy, and the sauce was a great blend of heat, sweetness, and garlic. Everything was ordered on a tablet that is at each table, and there was one staff member assisting the whole restaurant when I visited on a Sunday afternoon; she was kind, helpful, and provided great service. I also ordered the Peli Shaken Fries which had a nice sweet and savory flavor that complemented the chicken well. The Kimchi Fried Rice was warm, cheesy, but ultimately a little salty for my taste. Overall, the space has a modern and cozy feel, and I can see this being a good spot to grab some drinks and food with friends.
