Hello again!
This is an update to my review from 2009.
Until recently, my husband and I had been attending Bikram Yoga Auburn and Westboro on a regular basis, completing two 30 day challenges.
For those of you not familiar with the term, a 30 day challenge requires you to attend 30 classes in 30 days. Since most of us have work and life responsibilities, this often means missing a class one day and taking two the next...sounds crazy, I know. Though they can be tough to complete, they are extremely empowering, and show people that you can do anything you put your mind to. Plus you feel AMAZING afterwards and your clothes fit great!
Now let's get back to the "until recently" part...
In December of 2011 we put an offer on a house and it was accepted. Needless to say, the last two months have been a combination of anxiety, frustration, glee, spending more money than ever before, excitement, exhaustion and everything in between. Oh yeah, and we also adopted 2 puppies from our local shelter, because buying a house and moving weren't eventful enough. So we have pretty much been on house arrest with a limited cash flow.
So here we are, 3 weeks into February 2012 and our last class was December 12th, the last day of or most recent 30 day challenge.
December 12th we were feeling exhausted, but in a completely different way. Though most of our muscles were sore, it was exhilarating and we felt SOOO relaxed pretty much all the time. Nothing could shake us. I'm not sure that it affects men the same way, but as a woman, you feel strong, sturdy, it's very hard to explain so that is the best I can do.
Enter again February 23, 2012....Yuck! That is how I feel today.
There were so many things I noticed easily while attending class. I felt more relaxed, I was in better shape, increased energy, my eating habits were very healthy, etc... What I didn't realize was other things had changed too. I didn't notice until they reared their ugly little heads back into my life. Things like Hypoglycemia! I was diagnosed as a child and have suffered my whole life from fainting spells and tremors. This apparently went away while attending yoga. I did not notice until about 3 or 4 weeks ago, 1 month into not attending, when it came back, hard. My sugar levels are much harder to control now, and it sucks.
Mind you, we love our new home, our new puppies and this new chapter of life we are beginning, but something is missing. That feeling of Euphoria that is brought upon when attending Bikram Yoga. I am not going to kid you; some days are harder than others, no matter how much I love it and know I will feel great once I go.
Not sure if you have ever seen the commercial for Fallon Health and the reasons some people don't exercise, but I have definitely used the "I forgot my ponytail holder" because I didn't feel like going that day.
More often than not though, I am excited about attending class all day long, and try to get there early enough to just bask in the hot room before it fills up and class begins. And then of course, I am usually one of the last to leave at the end of class. Whether it is taking and extended Shavasana or chatting up the yoga instructors at the front desk. Because oh yes, the instructors at Bikram Yoga Auburn and Bikram Yoga Westboro are awesome!! They will give you help to improve your practice or share shopping tips, whatever you need that day Plus the owner Sam is more than willing to help accommodate any financial issues that may arise because of the cost of yoga. Whether it is a payment plan, or adjusting your package based on your attendance, he always has your best interest in mind. Because of this, my husband and I were able to purchase a 1 yr unlimited pass, definitely the most economical package. With two studios and 3-6 available classes each day, this makes attendance very easy with our crazy schedules.
To summarize the above novel, my husband and I are eager to get back and are trying to figure out a schedule that will allow us to both attend a few times per week, while having someone home to tend to the crate-training pups! The finances will be tricky, but I know we can work something out, what's the point of a great life if it's not a healthy one.
Try it and stay with it, it will change your life! read more
