Whether we're working on upper body, lower body, cardio and core, or a total body workout, I always feel like I was challenged, energized, and fully recovered before leaving. Chris is an excellent coach and a trainer who really knows her stuff. I've had some issues with hips and shoulders over the last few months, and she has provided exercise modifications without hesitation during every class. Her knowledge and her focus on individual needs has enabled me to keep working out effectively and without injury. Chris makes sure that everyone can fully participate in class and get a great workout based on their own level of ability and capability.

BUT if you brave it out, it's an experience like no other. Forget what you know about traditional yoga, although having the form and respect for your movement will serve you well. Silk "hammocks" suspended from the ceiling are your toys of the day. Straight out of 50 Shades of Grey or 50 Shades of crazy... it's an experience. I'm older, heavier and crotchetier than most, and was wise enough to experiment with a 30 min one-on-one, led by a nimble, ethereal and gazelle-like instructor - Kora. She takes a lot of the "fear factor" out of the training, and allows for your comfort level. You sit on this hammock and perform different feats against nature, like hanging upside down like a bat. Not bad for my first time, other than my 3 belly jelly rolls had a party hanging out in opposite direction of where they normally are... CHALLENGING! It will help you build upper body strength, core and balance. In a very calming environment. If you are in to trying new things, give it a whirl (LITERALLY!). At a minimum, you can tick that one off the list!

After randomly injuring my neck last week and it going away and coming back yesterday I thought it was best that I check myself into a yoga class for much needed relaxation and destressing. As soon as I walked into Central Mass I was put at ease. All of the ladies working at the front were very nice and asked me what I was looking for in a class. I decided on the restorative slow flow class. They have you take off your shoes before coming into any class as the floors creek and they want to keep it as quiet as possible. As I entered the class my body melted to the floor. Mandi took us through an hour and fifteen minutes of body strengthening and relaxing poses. We used straps, blosters and blocks to open up our hips, stretch our legs, and repair and restore parts that may have been aching! I loved this class so much that I decided to purchase the two week pass for $30 that is only open to first time students. It gives you unlimited classes and saves you a lot as a drop in class is $17. I've been back for two more classes since then and every teacher is amazing!

I love that the instructor started the class with a wonderful affirmation from a new book. Her intention for the class stuck with me throughout the entire day - I feel that so often I attend a yoga class and the focus shifts entirely to just the physical aspect of yoga, and not enough to the meditative state, but this class was the perfect example of both. I also loved the for the warm vinyasa flow, the instructor guided us through some pose options that were not super typical, giving the class a great twist with new energy. I'm not "fit" or flexible and I didn't know anything about yoga. I just knew that I wanted to see if it would help me. I started asking questions through email. Sara-Grace answered them all in an encouraging, informative way. She instantly made me feel welcomed. There is a 2 week, VERY affordable, package that lets you take unlimited classes. I took just about every beginner class they offered....multiple times. It was a great way to learn that not all yoga is the same. ( I didn't know that.) Every teacher I met was SO welcoming. They reminded the class that they should stay in their own personal comfort zone. They always made me feel like it was ok to focus on my personal growth while still teaching the more seasoned participants at the level they require. I've really settled in to Restorative Yoga. It's a safe space to work on physical and emotional awareness and nurturing. Meng Le offers a comfortable space and guides the class on a journey of physical and emotional comfort. In a perfect world, she would teach every day and I would attend every class. The studio space is clean. They offer props and mats so you can dive right in without buying anything. It's wonderful to have a place of peace to be a part of.

To be honest I was not really expecting to be a customer, but my wife convinced me otherwise during their opening week. Revolution offered up free classes for most of their first week, in a great way to create some buzz - we attended a couple of these, and I must say I am very impressed! I have never really been interested in yoga - nor did I understand it at all. Our classes were led by Gwen, who emphasized there that you "can't do anything wrong" in her classes, which was a relief for someone like myself. Fortunately I wasn't the only beginner - but it is clear that there is a strong local interest with some very experienced yoga-ers - which looks great for Revolution. No one makes you feel bad about taking a break, and Gwen was very helpful if you got mixed up while setting up a position (by you, I mean ME). The facilities are very nice - brand new, with a retail side and a studio side. The retail area is a little empty at the moment, but they will be building it out soon. The studio is great - well equipped with mats, straps and blocks. My mind was constantly racing trying to figure out the right positions - but in the end you will come out as relaxed as can be. The classes emphasize that. So from a complete beginner who knows nothing about yoga, I think its a great place, and a fantastic addition to the town. They offer many options in classes and class times - and the staff is all very friendly.

Yay, another visit on my Passport to Prana card!…read more I wouldn't normally make the trek from Somerville to Wellesley, but this studio is maybe 15 minutes from my office in Needham, and the yin yoga/meditation class sounded like it could be just what I needed last Tuesday night. I made my way to Laughing Dog, which is in the same building as the decrepit Wellesley Driving School, of which I am a proud, accident-prone graduate! So, you go inside and the building is old and gross, but inside the studio, the space has really been made up nicely. Cynthia, my instructor, was very welcoming and informative as I signed in and got myself situated. What I didn't know upon going in was that yin yoga is a verrrry slow, low-impact practice; holding twists and other restorative poses for periods of time as she talked us through muscle release and general relaxation. We were able to come into one downward dog, too. The class ended with a long, silent meditation. Not bad, and I know the studio offers other (mainly anusara and vinyasa) classes. Kinda odd, but they charge different amounts for different length classes-- so a 60-minute class card would cost less than a 90-minute one. Guess I got my free money's worth going to a 90 minute class! Moral is check out this studio if the location is convenient. Seemed nice enough and likely offers something for nearly everyone.
