The best little stop for a Sonoran dog, just an hour south of Phoenix! I tried this spot on the way back from a hike at Picacho Peak -- just a short drive down from Hotdogs Alvarado -- and loved the quick, convenient, classic AZ meal. This place is a hidden gem. It's a tiny hot dog stand across from Flying J that's pretty easy to miss even if you're looking for it. It doesn't even have a menu. But just step up to order the Sonoran hot dog -- grab a Mexican Coke or Jarritos if you wish -- and pay in cash for a satisfying post-hike or mid-drive meal. Nothing fancy, but so good. Despite being loaded with beans, tomatoes, and plenty of condiments, the bun doesn't fall apart. And the hot dogs were packed well enough that I could easily eat in the car. Will be back if I'm hiking in the area again! read more

Rude! From start to finish, approached the food stand and they had a rude face and didn't even ven ask what we wanted, I had to step up and ask more of what they offered! Our first time and it will be out last one. The girls here need to learn customer service, you loose customers that way and if owner doesn't care? Oh well, more negative reviews coming Hotdogs weren't as great as many say, I antes to try them out and already did which wasn't thrilled. read more

Thank you Yelp for this gem! Hotdogs Alvarado is a roadside Sonoran hot dog stand right off Interstate 10 near Eloy. They open at noon and only serve hot dogs and canned drinks. Parking is a large lot but try and park downwind to keep the dust down. They only serve Sonoran hot dogs, but they are awesome. It is a bacon wrapped hot dog topped with beans, onions, and probably a crema sauce. It is served in a fresh grilled bun almost like a New England lobster roll. It is cash only so bring cash! The hot dogs are damn good. Good balance of flavors and textures. They are small so I recommend ordering at least two if not more. The stand is very basic with limited outdoor seating under a canopy. There are no facilities here but there is a truck stop across the street. This is a great find along the open highway between Tucson and Phoenix. It is not fancy but the food is great and worth a stop. read more

I tried this road-side stand in 2023 while visiting AZ. Made such an impression that a year later, for my birthday lunch no less, I sought out this place again! Was thrilled they were just as tasty as I remembered!! Nothing fancy about the place but my oh my - the delicious buns & fancy toppings were off the charts & dogs were charred to perfection. Arrived just after 11 AM on a Saturday, no line so very quick service. $25 for 4 dogs & two drinks. We ate at the tables & watched the semi trucks exiting the wash. This was my second time having a Sonoran Dog and my wife's first - neither of us was disappointed! Lots of flavor in the dog, which was charred to perfection, as well as all the condiments. We had them loaded with everything except ketchup (I had ketchup on everything as a kid and now I can't stand it on anything!). Everything is packed nicely into a toasted bun that is part hotdog bun, part hoagie roll. We wouldn't necessarily go out of our way to have it again, but we would definitely stop there if we were passing through. At $3 a piece, you can't beat the flavor-value ratio. read more

I missed the El Guero Canelo in Tucson so I pulled out yelp app and searched Sonoran dog and this place happened to be on the way to Phoenix. I wasn't aware it is a hot dog stand not a restaurant until I pull off the freeway and looked around. It's across street from the gas station, opposite side of the map pointer. Ordered 2 with everything on it, $3 each, It took a while to make, with care, You can see the dude who was making it with concentration and moving around adding this and that. I never know it takes so much effort to make a Sonoran dog! I didn't get a chance to eat it after almost 12 hours but it's still so good. Two other people who never had it before I shared with loved the taste too. I should had got a dozen! If you never had it, go try it! I don't think we can find anything like this in California, at least not as I know of. read more

Out by a gas station is this tiny stall and it serves one food item: An amazing Sonoran hot dog. (They also sell water and soda). They only accept cash. The price is cheap (around 4 bucks) and yet this guy loads the dog with all these different toppings that make it a savory messy treat. This is not a politically correct food product. It is not vegan nor vegetarian and I am not sure what kind of meat is in the hot dog (beef or pork?). Excellent Sonoran hotdogs and they are made right in front of you while you wait. This business is a food truck and it's incredibly busy. Hot dogs cost $4 each but they are so good with the hotdogs being wrapped in bacon (anything wrapped in bacon makes it better) plus those juicy pinto beans on top with the avocado sauce. Can wait to go back to Arizona and get some more of these dogs!! Highly recommend. read more

Hotdogs are not 100% beef, taste like Bar-s hotdogs. I bit into a Mexican hotdog and found a piece of metal. Looked like something you scrub the flat top with. Along with that the customer service is horrible, employees are rude. I never contacted establishment, I just won't return there ever. I better add additional information, the address is I-8 across from Love's. So maybe Arizona city not Eloy. read more

Delicious! First time having a Sonoran Hot Dog. I believe it had buttered crispy buns, bacon wrapped dog, beans, grilled onions, diced tomatoes, green salsa, ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard. He put so much care into making each dog! Well worth the $3! Be prepared to wait though. It gets busy! And it takes him a while to make them because of how many ingredients goes into each one. My Motorcycle Group did a Sonoran Hot Dog tour sampling a number of Sonoran Hot Dog Stands in the Tucson area, in the spring of 2022 we voted Hotdogs Alvarado on exit 208 the #1 Sonoran Hotdog. This fall our group (often with different riders) has visited the stand 3 times the food is great however the price has increased to $5.00. Today our party of 16 tested the hotdogs but they fell a little short with the dogs not quite hot enough and the buns not as spectacular perhaps a little over toasted. still a strong 8.5 /10. We headed over to Alvarado other location on Sunland Gin Rd exit 200 on I-8. This stand delivered a perfect 10 for the 5 participants who sacrificed their bodies for the taste comparison, Keep in mind it is a little tougher delivering 16+ dogs at a time. We weren't sure if it even existed or would be open when we came...but it exceeded expectations in every way. We came at 8:30 pm on Saturday and the Women cooking hotdogs were absolute angels. These were the best Sonoran dogs I've ever had (I had every topping added) with buns better than J-lo. It was also the kindest service I've experienced in quite a while. 5 stars aren't enough. I will make this a regular stop every time I go to Tucson. read more

What's with the tiny ones? It's like buying one of those sample cups they hand out at Costco on the weekends. It's oddly frustrating, especially when you're paying restaurant prices. This place used to be good, but now it's just disappointing. Everyone's taste buds are different, and you may end up loving it. I don't, and I can't recommend it when there are much better local options nearby.

We asked for the highest spice level but maybe the guy doubted us because he gave us chillies on the side which we put all in and it still wasn't too spicy for us but the food was definitely well spiced and flavorful. This was great for a quick breakfast but if I go for a full meal and depending on the mood I might clarify we actually want spicy. We wanted to try the Gobi Manchurian cauliflower from the appetizer menu but was told they don't have that available. I will definitely stop by here again when traveling this way to try more from the menu. My understanding was that the bhature bread and most of their other breads have dairy. Same for the gravy of the kadhi pakora dish. They do have lots of vegan options though like the channa masala, bhindi masala, samosa, and several more. It was a tad chilly inside with the AC blasting. My husband said the men's bathroom wasn't very clean that morning but the rest of the restaurant seemed clean. The food is served in to go containers. Looking forward to trying more here and it's a great spot to know about on our way in and out of town on trips. My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back but a decent place 4 stars: Great place. I would go back. 5 stars: I highly recommend stopping whatever you are doing and making plans to try it out! An Evie favorite!
