She absolutely loves going to day care and has even stayed for multiple long overnight stays. I love watching Snowy play with her friends on their instagram stories and posts. Kevin is one of her favorite humans in the world. I love that I can drop her off knowing she is going to be so well loved and looked after and that she will be having the best time! 5 stars is not enough!! So, I considered whether I should write a review of Hotel Bark Avenue. Bark Avenue has lots of good reviews, but alas, this will not be one of them. I would normally add what the owner had to say, but he has yet to call me back...so I am on my own. My dog (22 lb / 15 month old female Beagle) did a one day "play/day care" session. We filled in the paperwork and paid before we came. When we arrived, the windows were all blacked out and we could not see in. We were told that it stopped the dogs from getting agitated if they saw their owners. There is also no "live" camera feed - so what goes on is a mystery and we must rely on the staff posting on their Instagram which, by definition is self curated. Fortunately, we went on Instagram often throughout the day, and what we say was maybe 8 dogs ganging up on our dog whose tail was tucked between her legs as she tried to escape. What we found fascinating was that this had to have been observed by the staff, since they filmed and posted it. We called the owner and asked about this. He said he would review the tapes. He did. He edited the tapes and added other shots of our dog having fun and deleted the most damaging ones. We came to pick the dog up. The place was still crowded according to the owner. When we came to get her, we waited about 10 minutes for her to be brought out (remember, we cant go in or see in). The staff person explained that, in fact, our dog was treated in a rough manner and apologized. After about 5 minutes of chatting with us on pick up, she lamented that she needed to get back inside as no one else was there to watch the dogs. So, there are a bunch of dogs, left unattended each time a dog is picked up. To recap: Can't see inside, no live camera, short staffed resulting in dogs unattended, our dog gets kinda beat up, video records are altered. This is the upper east side of New York. Do yourself a favor and find a more transparent vendor who appreciates that dogs are family members and people care how they are treated. read more

The entire crew is fantastic! Compared to what I've paid before at other daycares, their 30 day package is a steal. They post stories of the dogs playing every single day on their Instagram stories, and will often post awesome action shots of my dog playing. It's great to be out for the day and get to see how much fun my dog is having online. You can also expect some adorable photo shoots, they gave my pup a ghost costume and sent me adorable Halloween photos! I also love that they have a full backyard. My way of knowing for certain how well my dog is taken care of is easy - her excitement every time we get near the daycare! When we're within a few blocks, she starts pulling on the leash. And when they open the door to bring her in, she spins in circles and her tail wags like crazy. It's her favorite place to go! Kevin and Chris have always been kind and have gone out of their way to make sure not only my dog is happy, but I'm happy too. They are constantly adding things to improve, and I always feel good leaving my pup with them for boarding or for just a play date. In all honesty had I written this review two weeks ago my comments would have been very different. Truth be told I was extremely disappointed when I was told to take my business elsewhere by the General Manager. I had been taking my puppy to Hotel Bark for eight months now, I appreciated their extended hours and Sunday availability. My only concern was with the young gentlemen that worked at the hotel on the weekends. His temperament and demeanor was not very inviting and welcoming towards me. He would often have a look of disdain and annoyance every time I dropped of my pup. My puppy is a Shichon and so his temperament is very playful and friendly. I didn't mention anything at first as everyone can have a bad day or two. We are all human! As time went on I started to notice that my puppy would react much differently around this individual as well. So, one day I decided to mention my concerns to the General Manager, who I spoke with quite often. I made sure not to ask in an accusatory tone as it was just a personal feeling at first. So, I asked as a part of a conversation. He mentioned that the young man that worked weekends was a friend of him. He then went on to say that this individual "Realized that he liked dogs but he didn't love them" Which leads to my poor review of this establishment. This individual mentioned to me on more than one occasion that my puppy was very "Playful" & "Hyperactive" as if that were a bad thing. My puppy passed the temperament test, so I couldn't figure out why a playful pup would be an issue of any kind. It's a doggie daycare after all. *Perhaps for someone who didn't like- dogs that could be a problem, he clearly lacked patience when it came to my playful pup.* I began to grow concerned that he may be tying up my puppy when he was working. On more than one occasion I would drop him off for daycare on the weekends and he wouldn't appear on camera for hours. Most recently he wasn't on camera (stories) for seven hours. When I reached out to the worker to inquire about his absence during these seven hours he informed me that "They missed him while cleaning". Let me just reiterate the camera absence(stories) only happpend when this individual works! I then respectfully asked if he could try to record him more often, as it offered a level of comfort to have a visual of my fur baby. And here once again like clockwork in his reply- he makes mention of how "Playful" my puppy is here. I mean seriously what is this guy's deal with playful, loving puppies?! To my astonishment, I was told if I didn't like it to take my business elsewhere. I am just a concerned Pet Parent who loves her puppy very much. I only wanted to make sure that he was being loved like the rest of the puppies. The whole ordeal was extremley upsetting!. Really insufficient and delayed communication regarding my dog (at first he was a delight, and then randomly after 3 stays, he is no longer welcome????). And also I have found it bizarre that you can't actually enter the facility and go inside, although I think they do have a PR response ready for that. Responding to Christopher/Kevin: Firstly, leave my dad out of your response you unhinged weirdos. Secondly, if he attacked your handlers, that's more than sufficient a reason. What is insufficient (other than your reading comprehension skills) was your COMMUNICATION considering I'm hearing about it six months later and not a peep the last time I boarded him. If there was an issue, I should have been notified immediately upon discharge in person. Additionally, my dog was covered in mud and dirt and had cuts and scrapes when I last picked him up so overall just do better please and also be better human beings in general. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place - but even more important - my dog LOVES this place. She has severe separation anxiety so I was REALLY nervous about bringing her there. After just one visit - when I brought her back - no stress at all - she pranced in with her tail wagging! She has an absolute ball. When I bring her home after a full day of play - she eats and is then knocked out for the night. I love that I can watch clips of her on Instagram during the day and the staff has been great. I was so excited to take my puppy F. to this daycare. The five star reviews and backyard completely won me over. Unfortunately, during F's trial, he broke his leg. I was told it was because he jumped off of something and landed wrong. Since this happened within the first ten minutes of his trial, I firmly believe he should have been watched more closely as the daycare learned F's temperament and abilities (F has been to daycare before and has had no issues!). With that being said, they did work with their insurance and are covering 2500 dollars of the surgery. However, that is less than 50% of his total care, not to mention the time it takes to care for a puppy on restricted activity for over a month. I completely understand that accidents happen, but I do think it's important to know that this can happen to your pup if you take them here. I'd recommend taking your dog to a slightly more boring (but much safer) daycare instead. 6000 dollars and a two month recovery is quite the serious accident. read more

It's a nerve racking experience to send your furry ball of sunshine into the unknown. Wondering if she's going to socialize with the other pups and if anxious tendencies will follow her to a daycare. Hotel Bark Ave has such a wonderful staff, from quick replies to emails and calls to pictures and videos on Instagram, I feel at ease to leave her in the very competent and capable hands of Kevin. She's a different dog now, being more playful and social, and leaves the daycare tired, which is a relief, cause it brings me peace of mind that she's been playing all day. Such beautiful pictures, from group shots (how do they do it?) to playing in the backyard. Yes! They have a backyard! With bushes, cots, and toys! We're so happy to have found this gem of a place at such an affordable rate. My little and I have never been happier and will continue to come back. She has a home away from home! Hotel Bark Ave took such exquisite care of my pup 6 month old Tacoma. Tacoma came from Alabama via the SPCA in Westchester. After two months he is still getting used to city sounds, people and other pups. The pics and videos on IG were amazing and the guys have the best captions for the doggies ridiculousness. My fiancé just picked up Tacoma and he was having so much fun he didn't want to leave Bark Ave Hotel. I consoled him by explaining that Hotel Bark Ave is like Peter Pan's land of the Lost boys. I've been using daycare and boarding for my little rescue dude, Jameson. He's a new addition to the family and has a lot of fear inside such a tiny body! The staff are incredibly patient with him, they give him lots of attention but are very aware when he needs a little space. The longest I boarded him was 6 nights and he came back smelly (as expected with so many dogs around) but not a hair on his head out of place! Which is hard to say generally, when I've boarded dogs at other locations for long periods of time they often come home sick or a little hurt. I also LOVE the open style of the place -- there aren't crates that they're stuck in over night. They get to hang with their pals on the couches or floors and it has really helped him open up a bit more. As an additional bonus: there are many pictures and videos that are posted on their instagram! Professional level dog photos, if you ask me! read more

Giving Hotel Bark Ave one star for a very similar reason I gave their dog walking service one star. They're money guzzling robots. They have some BS rule that is "mandated by their building" that you can't pick up your own dog on a Sunday because there's a funeral home next door. If you ask me, it's just a sleazy way to get another night out of you. Countless times I came back from vacation on a Sunday and was told I could not come pick up my own dog and was forced to pay an additional night even when I wanted my dog back. The straw that broke the camels back was when I tried to book him for Labor Day weekend and was told I couldn't pick up my dog on Sunday because of their stupid rule or Monday because it's Labor Day even though they have someone there at all times. Unless you want your dogs held hostage by these pigs that just want your money, run far far away. read more

SO.RUDE. I'm not sure why Kevin felt it was necessary to be so short but I certainly did not earn that as a customer. I called ahead to let the business know I was coming to pick my pooch up after a trial daycare day. I spoke with Kevin, he said to call back when I was outside, I said ok, I'll be there in about two minutes. So I park, walk up to the building and call. Kevin picks up, says something I can't hear and just hangs up. So I call back. He picks up again, clearly irritated and says, HE'LL BE RIGHT OOOUUUUUTTTT." and drops the the call again. I wish I had a recording of his tone, it was absolutely not warranted. Completely incensed, when Kevin appeared with my dog, I asked him to unlock the gate and give me my dog, and I told him I thought his rude behavior was completely uncalled for. As I walked quickly back to my car, he was yelling at me that I was the one who was rude, and other comments that I wasn't able to make out. What exactly warranted treating a customer that way? Until that moment, all transactions had been totally benign. There was absolutely no reason to be a jerk. I have no idea how my dog did, right now he's completely grouchy and seems out of sorts which is odd as he's never behaved that way before. I guess it doesn't matter as we will not be returning. In response to Christopher: I do not at all dispute that I called on my way to pick up Darwin and was told to call back. This was not a problem. Let me say again, when I called back as I was instructed the response was so brief I could not hear what was said and then Kevin disconnected the call. Again, this was not a problem except that I had no idea what the directions were. Which is why I called back a third time. Kevin picked up the phone, no greeting, clearly annoyed and he let me know it. I also do not dispute directing Kevin to open up the gate immediately and hand me Darwin's leash nor do I dispute walking away from your business as quickly as possible. For you to expect me to stand there and chat with him after that last phone exchange is absurd. Regarding Darwin's visit, I'm very glad he had a good time. That was the point of the visit and the reason for keeping him there the for the duration of the day, although I wonder if he was grouchy when I picked him up due to minor dehydration (two bowls of water when we got home. ) As a last note, I find it interesting you felt the need to give a not so subtle dig about the amount of time he was there (which is actually listed on your website as an option) but it does help to explain the emotional manipulation and gaslighting in the two emails I received from your business. read more

I've been sending my dog here for about 3 months, and I couldn't be happier! The price is competitive for NYC and there's a full backyard! I'm so relieved my pup can run around outside instead of be inside in a boring room. I live locally to a few pet daycares and all of them are just four walls with minimal toys. I can't say enough good things about Hotel Bark Ave! We've been taking our pup Trenton there for 8 months since we adopted him and they've been absolutely wonderful. Bark Ave offers both daycare and walk services so we are free to alternate between the two through a single contact which makes it so easy for my husband and me. We simply email every Sunday with our desired schedule for the week and we're all set! Kevin who primarily manages the daycare is truly a dog whisperer -- and couldn't be nicer or easier to work with! Trenton is a rescue and he had a bit of a hard time adjusting to NYC life, and the team at Bark Ave was so supportive and helpful through his transition. Also, the daycare space has a lovely outdoor patio and the pups can run freely from inside to outside, which is a rare find from what I hear about other daycare options! I had my dog in the hotel for a trial run, every thing was fine and the owner Garrett said my dog was doing fine. But after two weeks when we need to board our dog he told us that he can't take our dog because my dog is not a good fit. Not sure why he didn't mention it at the pick up during the trial run instead of giving us hard time last minute find accommodation for my dog. If we got a "everything is good" we assume that we can board her in the future. If you want to tell us that "she is not doing well with other dogs" please be transparent so we could look for other dog hotel. Now we are leaving soon and have to find other place. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Hotel Bark Ave. Unlike all the other dog daycares & boarding in the city, Hotel Bark Ave has a huge back yard - Kevin often posts instagram videos showing the dogs playing and having lots of fun out there. The staff are so attentive, responsive, and caring. My rescue, Albert, has gone to Hotel Bark Avenue for a few lengthy stays and it means so much to know he is so well taken care of and literally having the time of his life playing with all the other pups in such a spacious and clean environment. I've been on the hunt for a new dog boarder after a terrible experience with my last one. I love that this place requires a trial day to ensure that your dog is a good fit. I also like that their building is really secure. That was a good sign. I ended up using them during my vacation. The staff is so nice and they keep you up to date on your pet via Instagram while you are away. My little puggy was returned to me without any issues. I started out leaving Lemon, our shiba/eskimo mix, there for daycare when she was about 16 weeks old. The first day she was apprehensive about leaving my side, the second day she pulled hard on her leash to get inside and join the fun as quickly as possible. She LOVES going there and reverts to full on puppy excited whenever she sees the staff. The owner and staff are responsive and attentive. For example, when Lemon her her paw (on my watch), I posted online and they emailed me within 20 minutes to see if I wanted to reschedule the daycare day since she had to go to the vet. When she's there, I know she's in good hands and has someone keeping an eye on her, because they email me immediately if they have any concerns or questions. Our Shiba Inu has been going to Hotel Bark since he was a puppy; occasionally for daycare as well as boarding when we are traveling. Their affiliate, Bark Ave Dog Walkers also walk our little one on a daily basis. We couldn't be happier and our Shiba absolutely loves them - truth be told, he's sometimes happier to see Bark coming than us:) Their setup with the big courtyard in the back is also awesome, as an owner its great to know your dog gets to go outside and frolic around and not being confined to an empty sterile room with a couple of windows. Ever since we started using them they have also been super accommodative when we come with last minute requests, which unfortunately happens relatively frequently as our schedules are sometimes in flux... Before we found Bark we went through a number of walkers, daycares and boarding services but were never satisfied, either with service level or facilities. Love this place! We take our rescue beagle here for day camp because of his separation anxiety. When he's here he doesn't miss us at all. He spends his days playing and sniffing around in the backyard or lounging on the couches. We also love that we get to watch him on Instagram videos all day. Where do I start? My dog has always been a very social girl, she has a lot of energy and love which can be a handful sometimes. KEVIN really makes this place t h e best experience we've received with any pet hotel ever! Shes been to about 6 different daycares & we've found this one to be the best hands down. Kevin is the nicest person ever, he treats the dogs as if they were his own, very caring and understanding. I say this because there has been many times where we had no reservation for her and he accepted us last minute. I know when my dog likes a person and/or place but she loves this place so much. Theres always other dogs that seem to be frequent visitors as well. The dogs literally play all day, go to sleep whenever they finally wear out. They have a huge backyard for the pups to run around in as well as where they actually stay. The other dogs are also friendly & playful so you wouldnt have to worry about anything. Anyways as I said before Kevin is the primary caretaker, he has really made this place of business the most memorable and safe place so whenever she wants to go to daycare or needs boarding, this is the first place we think of!!! Like most pet owners, we think of our dogs as family and want to be sure they're in the best hands while we're away. We dropped Alfie and P off with Bark Ave for a two night stay recently, and within moments of arriving, felt we had found our guys. There is a big backyard for the dogs to run freely and plenty of space indoors, as well. Throughout the stay, Bark Ave posted pictures of their visitors on Instagram and Facebook, which eased this crazy mom's separation anxiety. The dogs both had such a great time, I think they wanted to stay! We have been boarding our golden doodle, Maddie, at Hotel Bark Ave for almost two years. It is nothing short of fantastic and I tell everyone I know that they should be boarding/doggie daycare there. The #1 thing is the incredibly large outdoor space (and real outdoor space, with plants, trees, and doggie lounges, not just a small concrete area at other places) that I have never found anywhere else in Manhattan. And the indoor space is great too with an actual couch! The #2 best thing is the staff - it's a small, consistent group with low turnover that get to know the dogs well. They're willing to administer medicine, answer your emails from vacation to give you updates, give you actual, detailed reports on how your dog was during pick up, and are so quick to respond to emails. And #3 has to be the amazing instagram videos we watch religiously when we're away (I guess we are crazy dog parents). Also it has a great mix and number of dogs - never too crowded where the dogs are on top of each other (however the dogs do like to cuddle). Maddie is always pooped after boarding, but happy, healthy, and safe. We unfortunately moved 40 blocks downtown last year and STILL trek uptown to board Maddie there because it's that good. If we lived closer, I would 100% do daily M-F daycare and am jealous of the dogs/owners that do it. We tried a few other doggie daycares out by us that didn't even come close to Hotel Bark Ave - the other daycares had countless rotating staff, no outdoor space, tiny indoor space for giant dogs that was an empty room, and whenever I picked up Maddie, no one could tell me about her behavior. Just an FYI - I believe there is a weight limit (?50 lbs) so just ask. read more
