If booking on a third party site and they offer early check in do not bother. The earliest check in is at 4pm and the 3rd party site will still charge you $50. They still had signs in the elevator for the Hadley club from May of 2024. The club is no longer open. Nice hotel and location if going to the SAP center or San Pedro square. They only offer valet parking at $47 a night or you have to park in a parking garage a couple blocks away. We had a king size bed in a very small room. The furniture like the armoire was too big for the space. If staying for one night the price we got was not too bad. Probably wouldn't stay if more than one night...no amenities for a Hyatt. read more

Visited for the first time yesterday evening on a quick one night get away. We got into town early and the kind young woman at the front desk let us check in, with a room being available. We were on the 7th floor, which I enjoyed. I try to not let negative reviews deter from places of interest, so I really really wanted to like this hotel. However, I was bummed to confirm one reviewer on how hard our bed was. The room also did not come with any robes (as per Hyatt booking site indicated.) There were not many ammeneties. No room service, no resturant on site, there is a valet but we did not need to use them. We also did not recieve any Thank You gift as indicated, or any wine or welcome card I saw on some reviews. I really wanted to like this hotel, overall it was not a bad stay. Just was expecting a little bit more pizzazz based on photos/some reviews. read more

The DeAnza gets billed in some settings as "an iconic boutique property in the heart of the city." But...just like the downtown area it calls home...this hotel is on hard times. No restaurant on the property. Period. And finding a restaurant open in the surrounding area can be challenging with so many recent closures or reduced hours. Severely under-staffed, though the staff on hand are clearly trying their best. The rooms and amenities are showing wear. Their website promoted a jazz club with live music three nights a week. No music, and the bar setting was closed on a Saturday night. All in all, a disappointing three day stay...and the downtown streets are not the eclectic social/dining gathering spot they used to be. read more

TLDR: This was THE WORST hotel customer service I've ever experienced. They did not have the room that I booked 2 months ago, even though I called to confirm a week before check-in. They did very little to try to make it right. I booked a Parlor Suite (King bed with sofa bed in a separate living room) at Hotel De Anza through Chase Rewards on May 4. I was going to San Jose for a wedding in mid-July and reserved this specific type of room for various reasons. I'm not sure why, but I just had a funny feeling about the reservation. I called the hotel directly a week before I was supposed to check-in to confirm that they had my reservation and that the correct suite was reserved. The woman who answered asked for my name and check-in date, and she confirmed that she had my reservation for the following week, and that it was for the Parlor Suite, which has a separate living area. Fast forward a week... They couldn't accommodate an early check-in at 2PM, which was fine. We came back at 3 PM to check in and headed upstairs. Much to our surprise, it was just a regular king room. We headed back to the front desk, hoping this was just a mistake. Nope. They simply said that they didn't have any more of those rooms. WTF?! 1) I have the confirmation email for my hotel reservation, dates, and room type. 2) I went out of my way to call the hotel ahead of time and spoke to a human, who confirmed all these details. 3) The person who checked me in never mentioned that they didn't have the suite that we reserved (which is more expensive than a King, btw). They were simply planning to bait-and-switch us! The front desk offered to send up a cot and give us some Hyatt points. If you look on the website, the King rooms are half the cost of the Parlor Suites. Plus, points were useless to me since I don't normally stay at Hyatt's. I'm obviously not going to start now. At this point, I was done with this hotel. I just wanted to cancel my reservation but wanted confirmation in writing that my reservation would be cancelled without penalty, since verbal confirmation obviously meant nothing to them. (I guess written doesn't either) The front desk made some excuses and said I'd get an email in a few hours. Chase Rewards ended up taking care of it, but I never got that confirmation email of cancellation from the hotel. Also, I had family members who waited over 30 min past check-in time because the staff "needed to make sure the room was ready." We went to Hotel Signia a few blocks over, which had comparable pricing that weekend, impeccable customer service, high-end amenities, and much, much nicer rooms. read more

This place is a little outdated, it's kind of silly. They charge you a destination fee just put the total in the cost of the room regardless, if it's done through a third-party, I had to call back after I paid and saw multiple expenses on my bill. I just don't like the feeling that after I paid, I have to review just to make sure it looks legit. read more

My partner and I are local first responders, and were looking forward to our stay at Hotel DeAnza for a few weeks. We booked a room so we were able to sleep close to our base in between shifts and hopefully get extra rest during a long work week. Unfortunately, Hotel DeAnza was not accommodating in the least. We both work night shift, and spoke to hotel staff and management a total of 3 times prior to our stay in regards to a late check out so we could get rest before our next shift. Staff ensured there would be notes on our account, however, in the morning a staff member called our room and woke us up, saying it was time to check out. This was at 11:00. We were told we would have until 1:00pm in the room. When we reminded them we asked for a late checkout, they said an extra hour would be $20. At this point we had to agree because we needed the hour to get up and ready to leave. Additionally, this afternoon, we noticed the $75 hold that was placed on the card "in case of damages" upon check in was only refunded $50. We are very disappointed in the service we received, not only because our vital sleep was interrupted but because we were so very looking forward to staying at this historic hotel and we're really let down on the experience. read more

Every time I come out here to visit San Jose/SF area I always stay here for the reasonable rates and great service! I don't care what anyone says it's basic hotel but wonderful. My sheets, pillows, & towels are always fresh and clean.. The front desk is always there to answer any questions or help me. I had broken coffee machine and within minutes maintenance man came and replaced it. He even gave me extra coffee pods, sugar and apologized for the inconvenience! Somethings maybe closed (pool/jacuzzi) due to Covid-19. I'm too busy trying to explore the cities.. I got a personal and handwritten "Thank you" note from Tom along with a bottle of wine for being a returning customer. The only reason why I'm giving a 4 star is because parking is kind of tight.. Although, parking wasn't on site there are several parking garages nearby, if you choose not to use valet parking which is not on site. My room was quiet, posh, comfortable and clean! Reconsider if you are a light sleeper. Whenever the AC would turn on, it was loud and would wake me up every hour or 2. I called the front desk the next morning and the guy said maintenance would take a look at it. Never got an update but when I returned, AC sounded the same. Another sleepless night. Also, the walls between the rooms are thin. I could hear the couple next door... I would not stay here again. Vanessa at the front desk during the evening was kind! And was able to remove the parking card from our bill that we got earlier in the day since we did not need it. We were able to find meter parking. read more

RATING BOOGALOO SALSA Sunday's is a fun event outside in the back patio with overhead covering. It's not a wood floor but dance-able. Live music is always a plus in my book. Outside and inside bar. They had a taco bar when I went. Dance lesson is a beginner one at 4pm before the dance starts. The instructor was good too. I'll definitely be back. Incredible hotel & Incredible service! Highly recommend! I'm pretty scared of covid and haven't traveled at all since the pandemic started, but we really wanted to stay in San Jose to do the flashlight tour at Winchester Mystery House for Halloween...so we chose Hotel De Anza. It was the perfect choice. I felt very safe and they were very good about following safety measures. The hotel is beautiful & clean. The bed is comfy. The towels are big & fluffy. There's a mini fridge in the room. I had to go down to the desk to find a microwave. It's a gorgeous building with history. The location is great for walking to lots of places. It's a short drive to the Winchester House. Nick at the desk was awesome and very helpful. Again I highly recommend staying here. read more

Absolutely love this hotel, it's location, and their staff. The rooms have a little fridge, very soft pillows, and great amenities. It is located centrally as well. We stayed in town for a hockey game and it was a quick 10 minute walk to the stadium. The front desk staff is the best though. Extremely respectful and very professional. You can tell they were trained very well and really care about their customers. Couldn't be more happy and satisfied with them. You should know that this hotel has been sold and is now a Hyatt hotel. The bar and restaurant/lounge are all closed. No room service. The main entrance is closed and you have to be buzzed in like you are at an apartment. All the fancy velvet and leather furniture is gone. Without the furniture, entrance, restaurant/lounge- the once gorgeous and delightfully retro Hotel DeAnza, just seems run down and sad. My room was clean, but the sheets were rough and the bed hard. There was no mattress topper. One thin comfort or covered in 2 sheets, no duvet. The toiletries were cheap and harsh on the skin. No minibar. The front desk clerk was friendly and worked a more than 10 hour shift. read more

If I could provide zero stars I would. I recently stayed here (February 2019) and had a nightmare experience in which my brand new vehicle was damaged by one of their valet drivers and they did not even have the dignity to let me know but rather let me drive off and discover this myself. I was then questioned on if I did the damage to my car and had a run around with their insurance adjusted to get my vehicle fixed. Then two months later I receive a random charge from the hotel in which they claim they incorrectly billed me to top it off. Not once did I receive an apology or call from the manager, I even contacted Yves (their GM) and have still yet to receive a response. read more

Nice lobby, decent bar. My reason for 2 stars is the noise from the street, the airplanes, the screaming homeless people was constant. TV had limited channels, no ESPN. Bed an pillows were very uncomfortable and the shower was a super small space my husband barely fit in and he's not a big man. You had to step up about 1 foot to get in and shower head is directed right at entrance level so your hair will get wet. No restaurant either. read more

The hotel daily valet parking is expensive , no options for self parking. Staff were nice, location was good, room was clean but needs renovation. Hot water takes time and won't last to long. I grew up in San Jose when the Hotel De Anza was an abandoned eyesore in the 1970's. Actually, my mom worked nearby and the place always gave me the serious creeps (a grayish-pink, empty building standing ominously over a sparse San Jose skyline.) Flash forward many years... December 2015, my company had its holiday party at the equally old Hotel St. Claire downtown and I opted to stay at the De Anza for the night. Solid choice. Beautifully renovated hotel with a nod to its past. Upon entering the room, I loved the decor! Deep, rich colors and fabrics, hip furniture and a cool factor you'd expect at a "boutique" hotel. The lobby and lounge were gorgeous. Service was excellent - very accommodating. Rates? Insanely reasonable (except for $29 parking in an empty holiday period - $29 to park my car out front?!) A few dings... HVAC was sloppy - noisy and ill placed right next to the bed. Lamp on the passenger's side of the bed not working. Shower was worn and frayed around the edges. No deal breakers though, would return for another night. In all, the De Anza is a beautiful hotel in downtown San Jose. I'll review the in-hotel lounge and restaurant separately, but rest assure they delivered high marks - 4+ stars. 4.49 stars - loved the hotel and all accoutrements. read more

I love this hotel! It's a boutique hotel that's modern and upscale. The room and bathroom is spacious with comfy beds, soft towels and bathrobes. The hotel staff was courteous and welcoming. It definitely made my stay pleasant. The best part of this hotel was their "Raid the Pantry" room which is open from 10pm until dawn. The room offers fruits, cookies, drinks and a sandwich bar. So for all those night owls or people who just want a midnight snack, it's the place to be. The only disadvantage I could find was that you have no choice but to valet park. I went around this hotel at least 3 times looking for parking and found nothing. To my luck, I stayed at this hotel during a SJ Shark's game. *sigh* read more

Stayed here one night before returning home. Great old world vibe! Friendly and courteous staff! I had a parlor room with a living room and large king bedroom. Great room to relax in with its whirlpool tub comfy couch and very comfortable bed. I loved the coffee beans and grinder for the morning. They have this cool "Raid My Pantry" room with light snacks, and I was able to get some milk for my coffee the next day. The location is great to get to anywhere either walking or by car. They only have valet which is a little pricey at $29. But I did feel I got more for my money than staying at the Fairmont. Met some friends down the street at this cute Japanese restaurant. So nice I didn't have to drive! I will definitely be back! It's got a charm all its own and that's something I appreciate and like! read more

The only reason I'm giving 1 star is because of the smiling faces at the Front Desk. We stayed at the hotel from 8/28-8/30. The condition of the hotel is that comparable to a Super 8 motel instead of your normal Hyatt. There was no hot water when we needed to take showers and to say the bed was uncomfortable is giving it to much credit. The real problem came when we were leaving the hotel to go back to our home in Lahaina. At 5am my wife, who was discombobulated from not being able to take a shower, left head AirPods at the hotel. We realized this moments after being picked up. We tracked them to the room, and immediately called the front desk. Matt, the front desk clerk, told us he would go to the room and personally retrieve the headphones. He stated if there was a problem he would reach out. We never received a voicemail or any communication from Matt. We followed up about the headphones on the 31st and were told that the headphones were never found. We tracked the headphones from the hotel to multiple addresses and found that they were taken from the hotel by staff. We are waiting from a response for the hotel manager and I will update as soon as we hear back. I would not recommend staying at this establishment not only because of it being overpriced, $250/night for no hot water or a comfortable bed, but also because the staff is untrustworthy. It is sad that we have already had to deal with the devastating fires in our home of Lahaina town but now we are having things taken from us when we sought out refuge from the devastation of a community that we are part of. read more

We decided to stay in this hotel for one night on our way back home from a little road trip up north. I had good expectations for this hotel from all of the reviews I read online. I didn't have any major issues with the room itself. It was nice and clean. However, it did smell a bit like vinegar, but maybe it was the cleaning liquids. What I did have an issue with was the customer service provided. Keep in mind I am not from the area and I am not familiar with the area. I couldn't find where I could park while I checked in since some information online was a little dated. I called front desk to ask where I could park while I checked in, but the young lady whom answered the phone was not very helpful. She just kept saying Santa Clara street, well that is a long street. I am not sure if she couldn't understand me or was new. However, I got very annoyed and decided to go inside to personally ask. She kept looking at me like a deer in headlights and seemed lost. I asked about parking and she just kept showing me a parking pass. I asked if I needed to purchase a parking pass? She just continued looking at me and repeating "parking pass". I even asked her if she was asking if I had a parking pass or if she was telling me I needed one. I wasn't trying to be rude, but she didn't seem to understand ANYTHING I was saying. I didn't want to be rude and assume she didn't understand English and start speaking Spanish. So we left to get dinner hoping that when we came back, someone else would be working the front desk. I didn't bother getting the name of that young lady, but someone needs to re-train her. We came back and it was still her. Luckily the Valet staff was there and THEY were able to answer all of our questions. THANK GOODNESS for them! They turned the negative experience around. Some negative things: They offer an iron, but no ironing board. We had to iron on top of the desk. There was no hot water in the morning. Maybe some like cold showers in the morning, but I don't. There is no parking on site, you have to either valet park or park in a parking structure a couple of blocks away. We decided to valet park, the valet staff was very nice and helpful. read more

De Anza hotel Located in the heart of downtown San Jose is the historical de Anza hotel. It's nearby various food places including my favorite la Victoria taqueria. The concierge were very friendly and let me check in my room a few hours early which was nice given that it was a busy weekend in town. The gym facilities is on the lower level with your usual treadmill and weights and is very secluded if you want to get that workout in before heading to hit the town. There is no pool located on property, though you get a view of neighbor hotels with pools. The rooms look like they have been recently upgraded with some modern flare but still has that old school feel. All in all very clean and welcoming atmosphere. If you want to stay in a place that has some historical value to the city stay here and get a feeling of the rich history the building provides. It's close to many atttactions and within walking distance to the stadium. I would definitely stay here again. read more

It was ok. Not a cookie cutter hotel experience. Pretty convenient downtown. Our room was decorated nicely except I don't know who's bad idea it was to put a creepy face on the pillow. No microwave which stunk when you have leftovers to heat up or reheat your coffee/tea. The wait staff at breakfast are a little intense. They seem more interested in making sure you have your breakfast voucher than in making you feel welcome. Food was ok. Crispy bacon at least. But no flavored coffee creamers if you need that sort of thing as I do. Business computer/printer was subpar. As far as hotel beds go I've had worse. Overall, it was a comfortable stay. I can't speak to their dinner menu as we never ate here for anything besides breakfast. read more

We stayed here two nights on short notice for a Sharks playoff game, & we left the hotel pleased with our stay. The 2 Queen room was very comfy and the A/C worked well! The staff was helpful and friendly, especially toward my 3-year-old son. The impressive part of the stay came the day after we left when we noticed we forgot my son's favorite stuffed animal he sleeps with every night! With a phone call Daniel, the housekeeping manager, set up a quick FedEx shipment for me to get the doll home. Even further! He took the lost doll around the hotel taking pictures of its stay and put it all together into a PDF of the beloved dolls trip to the hotel. This was wonderful for my son and our family, and above and beyond what was expected. I can't speak highly enough of the experience. read more

Me and my wife did not care for this hotel. We could smell the sewer after the toilet was flushed a couple of times. The road noise and the jets that fly over the hotel made it tough to sleep. When the air conditioning ran it was noisy. The air conditioning also made the air too cold. When the air conditioning was off it was too warm in the room. The restaurant has been closed for a long time and we didn't know that before booking. The web site does not say anything about the restaurant being closed. This is a Hyatt hotel but this hotel does not meet the Hyatt standards. We were really disappointed! read more
