    Bed bugs.
    Cindi V.

Let's start off with mentioning this hotel has BED BUGS!!! My boyfriend woke up in the morning and noticed he has gotten bit and he started to inspect the bed and lifted the pillow and found a bed bug there. A few seconds later we saw another one on the wall. We packed up and immediately checked out. The halls and room initially have a moldy smell which already made it feel unclean. Also, upon arrival we were met by an unfriendly staff member. We were checking in late due to a long car ride from MD and the lady at the front desk was unwelcoming and gave off the impression that we were bothering her. I have never felt so disgusted while staying at a hotel

Even though using first aid tape is the absolutely correct way to repair a remote, this still didn't do the trick. No TV.

Our stay at Hotel Executive Suites was really amazing and so full of surprises! When we got to the room, I tried calling down to the front desk, but the phone was broken. Then I tried turning on the TV but the remote didn't work, and the TV didn't have any buttons on it to operate it the old school way. The excitement continued when we discovered two bed remotes (?) in the drawer that also didn't work! As we gazed out at the view of a giant warehouse backed by the majestic NJ Turnpike in the distance, we couldn't help but think how this was as close to camping as we could get and still be within shouting distance of Newark airport. Did I mention that the smoke detector was hanging off the wall? Highly recommended!

How we had to sleep because the door wouldn't lock. This was our home made locking system

The room did not lock! When we were inside, we could put the deadbolt on and prop some ironing boards against the door, but if we left, there was no way to lock it. Anyone could walk in. We told the front desk when we checked in at 3pm. They said it would be fixed. When we returned at 1am, it was not fixed. There were no other hotel vacancies in the area so we had to stay here. There were blood stains on one bed and a used washcloth on top of the shower curtain. Weird nickel sized holes were punched out of the ceiling. Overall very miserable evening. Hallways reeked of weed. Also- this isn't a political post, but if there are signs on the doors requiring everyone to wear masks, that's fine. Why didn't the front desk staff have to? Update. I finally talked to the GM and was told "I can do 50% refund, but nothing more... accidents happen and there's nothing we can do about that". GM couldn't care less about the guests or quality of his hotel. An accident is not having a clean towel or pillow in the room. Not blood on the sheets and a door that doesn't lock.

The conversation at check-in started like this: Check in Clerk: There will be a $4.40 energy charge added to your bill. Me: No. No, there will not. Thankfully, she removed the unscrupulous charge immediately, as I was ready to fight it. I've been traveling a long time, and I have never paid extra for electricity; it is always assumed to be part of the full rate. When I arrived at my room, I observed that it was not a suite, nor was there anything particularly executive about it. It was just a standard bedroom with two beds, an ordinary desk, two chairs and a television. I suppose the executive part was their assumption that they could add on unscrupulous charges, and that well-paid executives might not mind or notice. Also worth noting was that ahead of me in line, there was a very angry businessman who was ranting about them not having the room he had reserved available.

Well, this was a last minute booking. I will let you decide if I am being anal of if this place just needs some HELP. I paid about $30 more a night to get a king size bed bc it was just myself on this trip. The bed was hard and it felt like there was two box springs under. When I lifted the mattress I could not see anything unusual. The only decent spot was in the middle. Then the elevator buttons were missing or broken. I didn't take phones but all most all the light fixtures on my floor were not straight. Just the little bit of OCD part on me that I noticed. The breakfast was nothing to speak of, I didn't eat anything there.

You know how people say "I would give it negative stars if I could"? Holy smokes... I would give it…read moreone negative star for every second that I had to stay here. Where to start: The front desk was awful. You usually just stand there and wait for someone to come to the empty front desk. Even then, the person you see tends to operate as though you're annoying them or preventing them from doing something they really want to do. The lady gave us our keys and didn't bother to tell us where the elevator was, how to get to the room, where the pool is, or where the gym is. Must have overlooked it. The first room I had seemed to be occupied or not ready, based on the trash piled outside, my key not working, and noises I heard inside. The front desk then gave me a second room that had the latch on the door busted and completely missing AND THE DOOR WOULD NOT LOCK. I hated having to complain yet again, but basic security, at a minimum, should be there. The young lady finally "upgraded" me to a more spacious suite. The suite was fine, but the bathroom is disgusting, stained, and smelled bad. Not only that, I could hear the people in the other rooms arguing as well as the people outside, and kids crying from another room. Nightmarish. I honestly can't emphasize how badly I wish I had never stayed here, nor how very much you should stay away, and the certainty with which I will never stay here again.

After getting help to get out I reported the incident and they took the report refusing to give me a copy. I asked for a rubber mat to insure that those staying with me would not experience the same fate. They NEVER RESONDED. I needed to go to the ER and came back with a sling. I was not asked by anyone in the front desk, or higher if I was okay or asked if I needed anything. It was as if nothing ever happened. I walked over to housekeeping and asked them for a rubber mat for the tub. They said the hotel DIDN'T HAVE ANY. We needed to take TOWEL BATHS each day to avoid the hazard. When I got home I made several calls to inquire about liability information. I finally got a number they assured me could help me, but all I could get was a message machine and no one returned my call. We were also on the first floor and EACH NIGHT AROUND MIDNIGHT there was yelling and fighting in the hall and no one at the front desk, not far away, brought anything to order or called the police. This experience was the worst case of not caring about the safety of their customers, no concern for the customer and neglect of the customers forget about hospitality and customer service! Needless to say, I would NEVER recommend the Holiday Inn Express Suites Woodbridge by HIG in Avenel, NJ.

This is the first time a stayed at a Spark by Hilton property and found the property to be on-par with Hampton Inn's but with an emphasis on basics. While this property was a take-over and remodel of another brand, there is very little indication that this was not a completely refurbished property. The only hint I saw was in the elevator in which the back side is glass, so as the elevator rises you can see outside. The tell sign is that while every detail inside the property is clean as a whistle, the window in the elevator are not, a minor detail overlooked. My room, 515, was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Close to the single elevator, there were times when it took some time for it to arrive, most 5 floor hotels do have more than one elevator. There were plenty of outlets in the room and the bead was ultra-comfortable, but the chair at the desk while fitting with the décor, is not functional for someone to work at the desk. All the staff I encountered were pleasant and helpful. I had an early departure, so I did not have an opportunity to check out breakfast, but parking was complementary which is always a plus, even though it was not gated. I like Spark for a quick, convenient and affordable overnight stay, but for more than one night, there are other Hilton brands I'd prefer to stay with. You be the judge; I think you'll like it overall as I did!

It's probably the largest hotel in the area and was hosting a film industry convention while I was there. I have stayed at this hotel a few times before and my rating improved slightly this time, especially given they gave me a courtesy upgrade owing to a shortage of King bed rooms which I reserved, but there are several issues that keep the rating nearly the same. 1. Reservations are still executed centrally via Marriott and the wait time could be a moment, but was easier to navigate through the prompts this time. Staff are friendly and efficient at the front desk when one checks in and out. 2. The hotel lacks amenities of a hotel this size. It does have a pool, but has no shop evident where one could buy a charger, toothbrush or aspirin if one forgot to bring the like. 3. The upgraded King Suite had no microwave or refrigerator. The dark and smooth tile on the bathroom floor can become dangerously slippery if the shower leaks water running across that floor and the towel laid down on the floor does not catch all the runoff. You may not see the water runoff on the dark tile and could lose your footing. Be careful. The toilet paper could benefit from better placement, making it less awkward to reach. You will hunt around for light switches on the walls and next to your bed the first time entering the dark room. The televisions and room a/c unit worked well, but the a/c heating unit was a bit noisy. 4. At well over two hundred dollars a night for a King room, there is no breakfast voucher for the cafe on the ground level to the right of the entrance. The cafe has a very basic menu and they serve your order as if it's to go in a bag, with boxes inside. If you specify that you are eating in your room, that would be fine. However, it's wasteful of paper and cardboard when a plate would suffice and be easier from which to eat. As a captive audience, it's the only thing immediately within reach. A few scrambled eggs, bacon, home fries, twin pancakes and small coffee is nineteen bucks. Not bad, but could and would be better if competitive options were immediately available. This hotel benefits from a lack of real competition in the immediate area. The price points are a bit high for what you get and that is a consequence of a lack of real competition in the area, inflation notwithstanding. The friendly and respectful staff deserve your attention. The people who work here from the front desk to housekeeping have been great each time. 3.2 stars
