The whole experience was unusual and upsetting but it was nice I got reimbursed. In general, the hotel is nice with ballroom areas. I was there for a yearly dance event. The whirlpool was great too! The gym was a little small but good enough to get in an OK workout. Their glass tavern bar seemed nice when I peaked in, but I never made it there. This hotel is close enough to the train station so it's convenient but I always find it too crowded...but that's just me. This was my first time staying there overnight. Pool and spa are never open. Walls are thin - I could hear the lady in the next room coughing. Some broken elements in my room - tub faucet coming off, drain broken, hold/cold rubbed off, etc.

It did not collapse, which felt like an appropriate baseline. The lobby tries very hard. High ceilings, a sense of occasion, the faint suggestion that important people once gathered here to discuss important things. Then you reach the room and the illusion loosens its tie. I had a corner king. It was enormous. Vast, even. You could host a small philosophy class in there, Socratic circle and all. Unfortunately, the room looked like it had already hosted several and lost all of the debates that happened there. The furniture was worn, the decor dated, and everything felt just a little too tired to argue back. In the elevator, an older gentleman joined me. He looked around, nodded once, and said, "this place sure isn't what it used to be." Then he got off. I believed him immediately. The hotel exists in a very convenient location, which is clearly its greatest strength. You can walk to restaurants, to the university, to the train station, to wherever it is you need to be. But convenience is not the same as comfort. Service feels inconsistent. Sometimes friendly, sometimes distracted, as if everyone is working from slightly different instructions. The amenities are a gamble. Some are limited, some unavailable, some simply not what you expected when you booked. There are also fees that appear with a quiet confidence, including valet parking that loudly reminds you your car now belongs to a system larger than yourself. Nothing here is terrible in isolation. That is the trick. It is all just a bit off. Slightly worn. Slightly overpriced for what you get. And so you leave with the feeling that you visited a memory rather than a hotel. A place that still stands, still functions, but no longer quite believes in itself.

No street parking, garage parking only. I'm not a fan of parking garages and this one did nothing to ease that creepy uneasy feeling I always get when I have to park in one alone. Thankfully it wasn't very full so I was able to park relatively close to the exit. Once inside the immediate interior is open with good lighting and a waterfall. Some might find it a bit dated but I thought it was fairly nice. Front desk personnel was friendly and check-in was done pretty quickly. What I didn't like was finding out about the $17 charge for parking. I guess that's basically the going rate for parking in the area but I still find parking deck charges ridiculous. For my budget minded peeps, there's also a $50 hold on your card for incidentals. The elevators weren't the best looking things but they worked and got me to the 8th floor. The room was mediocre at best. I expected more from a Hilton. I guess Paris is the only one who gets those gorgeous rooms they always show on their commercials. I was VERY happy that I had booked on a discount site and wasn't charged full price. Now for the room details. The covering on the side wall light fixture was falling off. I tried to straighten it back up but it was too loose. I didn't want to cause any further damage so I left it. The furniture was older with obvious wear in some places. The paintings on the wall had a slight creepy look to them. The bathroom had rust along the doors, the tub had obvious wear spots, weird 'substance' on the wall and the light switch fell off when I went to turn the light off. I was able to place it back on the wall but I couldn't turn the light off at all. I slept with it on all night. It didn't bother me but I hate the thought of wasting electricity for no reason. The AC was slightly loud and would make a sound that reminded me of a small dog bark. Not terribly loud but definitely a sound. It did startle me awake at one point but all in all I was able to sleep. Bed was comfortable enough, though on the soft side...kind of pillow top-ish. I prefer a more firm bed but those who like soft ones, should like the beds. The room didn't have a microwave but did have a fridge. I definitely wished I had my Lysol spray that I usually carry to spray down hotel surfaces. Unfortunately this was a last minute booking due to exhaustion after a very frustrating day so I didn't have any of my hotel clean up items. I stopped by their restaurant (Blossom) but there really wasn't anything on the limited menu that I wanted to try. Having read some of the other reviews, I didn't want to pay $24 for a Poke bowl that sucked. Thankfully I had some chicken chow mein left over from lunch. Unfortunately since there are no microwaves in the rooms (or at least my 8th fl room), I had to go down to the lobby to use the apparently single microwave in the hotel. It's right there in the lobby. Why not at least have a microwave near the elevators on each floor? All in all, in a pinch and with another booking deal, I'd stay here again. Given a choice of another comparable hotel at the same price, I'd try the other hotel. It wasn't terrible, but when you expect more from a place the disappointment can be all you need to look elsewhere.

That same night they were hosting a prom which made it impossible to leave and very hard to even enter due to the cars parking in the circle outside of it. The parking garage attached, which we paid to park in, was filled with highschoolers throwing trash and driving recklessly through it. We had asked for housekeeping 3 times and no one ever came, to which the front desk told us, they won't do it unless we are in the room. I had to ask for towels 4 times over 12 hours for anyone to bring them to the room. Our last night, the AC in the room we were moved to began to stop working as well and it became extremely hot. The elevators are also extremely slow.

Sheets were crisp, air conditioning blasting. Bed was comfortable - perhaps a bit springy but the variety in pillows made for a restful sleep. The bathroom could use a once over - mold on the ceiling above the shower and a very slow-draining sink (basin was full after just one handwashing). Otherwise, had all the amenities I could ask for. The Dove products in the bathroom were a nice surprise. A good amount of ambient noise (such as when a neighboring room turns their shower on and the herd of elephants apparently staying in the room above us) but nothing that kept me up at night over the white noise of the AC. The breakfast included in the stay was serviceable. Dry cereal, oatmeal, fruit, eggs, sausages, a variety of bread products like croissants, toasts, and biscuits, an automatic pancake maker, yogurt, milk (cow and soy), juice, coffee and more! It was incredibly busy and it was clear the employees were rushing around trying to keep up (and primarily succeeding given the chaos). I'd stay here again if the need arose.
