This was friends' and my 2nd time staying in Hotel Fiona because of the fantastic experience we had the 1st time and it's conveniently located to the venues of shows we have tickets to and all SF sites we dine at and visit! For this 2nd booking, Roger was very helpful when I called to ask questions. Then when we arrived from out of town, we thought to try asking if early check-in could be done because we arrived early to SF to beat the traffic. Sam assisted us and provided top notch customer service promptly and accommodated our early check-in request. What a world of difference it made for us to be able to check-in, place our bags inside the room, and get changed comfortably in our hotel room and not in some public restroom for our dinner and show reservations! Staff are friendly and greet us when we pass each other. We enjoy Googling the names on the hotel doors to learn more about the author or other iconic legend, when we stay here. It's a fun learning experience for us in this hotel! I appreciate how clean and spacious the rooms are and especially like their free continental breakfast with hot beverages in the morning. I cannot recommend Hotel Fiona enough! read more

Price isn't bad but it is in a bad part of town. It's loud at night because there are homeless people swarming the streets trying to break in to places. There are a lot of people using drugs here too. Parking is very limited and $35 a night. They do close the garage doors at 11pm due to safety. Lobby is tiny. The morning pastries are BS. They definitely don't bring them in from a bakery, they buy them bagged from a grocery store that are several weeks old. The employees I came across were all very nice. Overall, I would spend the extra cash to stay in a better more safe location. Also, they charge $200 deposit and $20 a day facilities charge. read more

Stayed here last night for the Demi Lovato concert. The room was so nice and very spacious. Loved the window setup. The bathroom was clean. They have their own garage so I felt safe leaving my car there over night. Would definitely come again. read more

First of all, I have to mention I know SF very well and know that area of SOMA isn't the greatest - so there were no surprises with seeing homelessness on the streets just a block or two away. To me, these aren't downsides to the hotel because you really get this in most parts of the city: you'll have a posh neighborhood or set of buildings right next to a block with solicitors selling drugs or homeless people on the streets. That's city life. With that aside, I really enjoyed my 2 night stay at Hotel Fiona! It was a nice change from those large chains where everything is impersonal. Here, we got to know some of the front desk staff, for instance. When we checked in, the guy working there went out of his way to make sure I got a good parking spot. Each car is given a reserved space, and that is yours the entire time of your stay (with in-and-out privileges). I thought the furniture and decor was adorable... very eclectic chic! There were cute little details, like naming each room with a different famous celebrity. We stayed in Robin Williams. (Fun fact: Did you know Robin Williams lived in San Francisco?!) We had a corner room, which had this curved set of windows where there was a table and set of chairs. It was perfect for when there was a rainy day and we got takeout. Our room was spacious and had lots of light. We liked seeing the streets and even sleeping to the sounds of the city. The bed was soft and comfortable (maybe a tiny bit too soft for my bad back, but for normal backs, it's cloud-like!) Yes, walking at night was not the best or safest, and we did do that to get food, but you just have to have some street smarts and it's fine. Better yet, take Uber or Lyft. There are some nice places to eat around the hotel though! The breakfast was surprisingly good with the local pastries from a bakery (NOT Costco) and they had decent coffee. The front door to the hotel could only be opened with a key to your hotel room or the front desk member opens it for you, so we felt very safe the whole time. Honestly, we really enjoyed our stay and would reserve this place again! The only small negative is there was no fridge, which posed an issue when we had food and drinks we needed cold. (Apparently you can ask for a room with a fridge, but I didn't know that til afterwards.) The room rates were really good, the hotel was clean (the lobby smelled like soap!), the decor is cute (not like a motel), and you get personalized service because it's a small hotel! read more

I really enjoyed my stay here, the service was great. It was centrally located, which is both a good and bad thing in SF, IYKYK. The parking was reasonably priced and the hotel room itself was clean and had a nice bathtub. The only con, was again the location, which was in a sketchy part of SF and it was really loud at night. To preface, I really want to give this place a 5 star review because Sam who works the front desk as well as the house keepers were absolutely amazing. The room was extremely clean, and believe me I check everything, and Sam helped us with all of our needs. My issues however were as followed. We were on the second story overlooking the alleyway on the right side of the building. Unfortunately, because of the location there was a lot of activity at night so I felt like I had to keep my curtains closed due to it being sketchy. This isn't really the hotels fault but I'm listing this for clarity because I wish I had read a review like this before choosing my room, I would have definitely paid for more to avoid this. Again, I do not fault the hotel for this and my rating is because of the next problems. There is a $20-$30 daily charge for the "amenities" the hotel provides. The "breakfast" is just croissants and coffee and the advertised "heated pool" is located across the street on top of a different Sister hotel and you have to pay daily for parking. And finally you have to request that your room gets clean or else it won't. I ran out of towels and toilet paper multiple times and had to go downstairs each time to request them. When my room did get clean a few days out of the week that it did, it was VERY well cleaned. My next issue is that the phone didn't work at all in the room so when I requested a late check out which was $65 for a few extra hours (understandable) the staff knocked on my door MULTIPLE times during that time. I'm talking 4-5 times with loud walkie talkers as I'm trying to sleep before my flight. They requested I answer the phone that didn't work or go downstairs to talk to the receptionist which I refused because I had already spoken to her and settled with the late check out earlier that morning. If I'm paying to sleep in a bit later it should be obvious not to disturb me during that time. There is also a wireless charger that is provided on the side of the bed that works for a few minutes then disconnects completely, so I was screwed two days with a dead phone because I thought it was working before going to bed. Because of that late check out charge, the "amenities"charges and the single over night parking I used, my deposit went pretty much back into the hotel. I don't mind paying extra for a better, peaceful experience, but I found that part lacking. The hotel itself was really beautiful and the room was comfortable and had a great atmosphere otherwise. read more

I was going to a concert at the Davies Symphony Hall and didn't want to drive back down the peninsula afterward so I decided to get a hotel room in the city. I ended up picking Hotel Fiona because it was a good mix of affordability and high ratings on Expedia, as well as having some amenities I wanted, like AC and breakfast. It's a very nice hotel. The staff I interacted with were all very friendly and helpful. There's a parking garage which is closed and locked overnight. The room was comfortable and pretty well appointed. The bathroom was maybe the least so (looked kinda dated, basic fixtures, loose floor tiles) but even that had some strong selling points. I'm 6' so some places I have to stoop over to use the shower but that absolutely wasn't an issue here, which is always nice. Breakfast was fairly basic, pastries from a local bakery plus some beverages, but it did the job. And the hotel was less than a mile from the Symphony Hall. Didn't even check before I booked but that ended up being great. Really the only downside was the neighborhood and there's not a lot they can do about that. Like a lot of SF it's in an odd spot with high end respectable stuff on one side and homelessness and poverty on the other. The key card holder boasts that the hotel is steps away from things like the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals but right around the corner were a lot of homeless people and some guys talking about scoring some rock. Is what it is. Made me even more appreciative of the locked garage and whatnot. But it's a solid hotel and a great value for the price. read more

Update: I did reduce the number of stars from 4 to 3 for the following reasons: (1) although Freddy was very helpful, it turned out there was a $40 early check in fee which he did not tell me about. I would have likely agreed to pay it anyway, but I did not like surprise, especially because I literally got there an hour before the fee would not have applied and had no where to go (I would have made an effort to get there earlier had I known about the fee); and (2) I suffer from migraines and the combination of the smell of exhaust near the elevators and what I have to assume is movement of the building from retrofitting and the fact that I was in S.F made me feel ill pretty much the entire time I was there.. For some reason this movement was really obvious outside of my room door. So if you get migraines, maybe avoid this place? The room itself was cute and clean, but on top of the smell of exhaust at the elevators, there was a smell of bad breath or something similar in the room that seemed to be coming in from the vents. That too was really bothersome, but I didn't complain or ask to be moved because I was on a fight schedule and needed to prep for my next day. Bed was comfortable, but there is a little of noise (likely due to age of building) that comes in from outside. Even on a Tuesday night, it made it hard to sleep (full disclosure, I have a hard time sleeping as it is). That said, as someone who is not sufficiently familiar with the city and public transportation, it was super convenient to just be able to walk over to the Ninth Circuit at about 8:25 a.m. for check in at 8:30 am and argument at 9:00 a.m. I may try one of the other hotels owned by the same company next time just to avoid the exhaust odors. ------- I will be checking in tomorrow, so perhaps will edit review later, but right now I simply wanted to highlight Freddy who works the front desk. He went above and beyond in answering my questions over the phone about my stay, accommodating my request for a mini fridge and early check in, and was just an all-around polite and very helpful. read more

I booked this on Orbitz and I knew parking would be $30, it's San Francisco so never expect free parking.... Walking distance to Market Street apretty convenient location... Area is ok but that's not reflective of the hotel itself.... I want sure what you expect overall though and a bit worried about the place, but to my surprise it was clean and the room really nicely done....I only stayed one night. I wouldn't really consider walking around too much especially at night. Service was pretty good the breakfast was ok but it is more of a small boutique hotel.. You are charged a $20 service fee as well which includes use of a gun across the street at Soma House another hotel they own... There is also a swimming pool across the street you have use of.... The lock the gate where you park at night... Might be inconvenient for some but for safety I understand.... I would consider staying here again! read more

This hotel refuses to cancel a reservation I made, saying it was done through Priceline and they cannot help me. Priceline customer service does not show the reservation at all, even though I've been charged for it on my credit card. I was looking forward to staying at this hotel, but I will never do that in the future. Or use Agoda booking or Priceline. read more

The entire stay was very peaceful & the owner/manager was very nice. We had a late check in...it was about midnight but was greeted with friendly service. My son was helicoptered to UCSF & the hotel was in a really good location for going back & forth to the hospital. read more

Our stay at Hotel Fiona was clean, convenient, and safe. Attending the theater was the purpose of our visit and Hotel Fiona is only a short distance from the Orpheum Theater, about an 8-minute walk -- however, we chose to drive and pay for parking closer to the theater because of the late hour of our event. The hotel is also just a short drive to Fisherman's Wharf, where we spent several pleasant hours. We returned to the hotel around 11 pm and easily accessed the private, locked-at-night parking garage, which was one of the reasons we chose to stay there. We felt safe coming and going, and even though we had quite an early morning departure, we were efficiently helped by the 24-hour lobby agent. read more

Previous reviewers don't seem to understand San Francisco or it's hotel / housing market very well. I just stayed 3 nights at Fiona for under $300 out the door and I'd say it's the best deal I've ever had on a hotel, given that you are more likely sharing a restroom in a dump in SF for that. Fiona does sit on the edge of a dodgy neighborhood though much worse a few blocks away. If you are going to stay close to Civic Center / Tenderloin you should definitely plan to Uber everywhere anyway. It's just safer and more convenient. It's true you don't want to walk around the neighborhood here, or even necessarily park your car and walk a couple blocks late at night. I can see how unfamiliar tourists could be surprised by the neighborhood but that's true of many many hotels in this area. Best bet, Uber! Anyway, what's so good about Hotel Fiona? First of all, it is very newly renovated and real pretty to look at. All the little touches on point, very cute room. Each room is named for a local SF celebrity and it was fun looking a few of these up. You do have to request a mini fridge if you want one here. I did, and not only did I get the fridge but also a room upgrade. So you might want to put in for fridge in case you get similarly lucky. My thought was, maybe they gave me this executive room because the fridge was already and it was easier. There is no microwave in the room, which I respect but is a mild inconvenience in a hotel. I basically never use my microwave at home but as a frequent traveler on a budget it's pretty essential for me to reheat easy meal options. and save me from blowing hundreds on restaurants. Anyway, I would have preferred a microwave in the room but they let me use the one downstairs and that worked ok. It's a small price to pay for a room more than double the size of the little closet that Best Western provided me for considerably more $ the last time I paid for a hotel in SF. Had a real bathroom with a bathtub too. There is a free breakfast every morning, It's not a huge spread but what there is comes from a quality local bakery, not Costco. So that was a win for me. As far as staff, there were lots of different people working the desk over our 3 night stay and we were frequently through with requests like the microwave, coffee, use of the pool across the street etc. So we were pretty interactive and everyone was at least passably friendly and some were very friendly. Another little feature I liked was there was a nice water fillup machine in the 3rd floor rather than a vending machine. I'll take good free water over pay pepsi water (dasani) and soda any day. Last really cool feature was that the hotel is under same management as the Soma House across the street. So when we checked out Veteran's Day Monday at noon and had an 8pm flight, we left our bags at the desk and headed on over. The Soma House rooftop pool deck was wet and seemed an unlikely refuge but the rain had just stopped so we put some towels down over chairs and waited it out. We lucked into a sunny afternoon and had the pool terrace pretty much to ourelves for hours. Okay we were lucky, but still. The pool is heated and it's not impossible to get sun in SF, just unlikely. And it's cute up there, with views. So yeah, know what you are getting into in thus neighborhood but if you are okay with the area and plan for it, you won't find a better hotel than Fiona, even for double the price. read more

We're on day 5 of staying here and we have no complaints. The staff is extremely friendly and someone is down there 24/7. I feel safe here, it feels clean here, and it's right in the middle of everything touristy. My son is working at the convention center and it's like a 5 minute scooter ride. We're a short walk from Target, lots of food places near by. You'll see some homeless on Mission st and on Market st but they don't approach and they keep to themselves. There's an alley on the side of the hotel and you'll see a couple homeless there but nothing frightening. Taking a Lyft from here to Union Square, Fisherman's Wharf, Haight and Ashbury and other places have all been about $15! We caught a baseball game at Oracle park and walked back to the hotel without one scary thing happening! I definitely recommend this place and we will for sure be staying here again and again. read more

Beware of hidden fees! I booked Hotel Fiona thinking I paid the full price, but right after booking, they hit me with an extra $20 "destination fee" per night. This was not shown clearly before payment. It feels like a scam -- no one wants last-minute surprises at check-in. I don't recommend staying here unless you enjoy being overcharged. Plenty of other places in SF are more honest. read more

I must say that the Hotel Fiona has an exceedingly helpful staff. We had some problems with the air conditioner in our room and the front desk staff went out of her way to help us and even gave us earplugs because of my husband's concern of possible noise, Also the house cleaning always asked if we needed anything. The other front desk staff were also helpful when I had other questions. They really made the stay pleasant. read more

I may have had a better review if not for the customer service. The room was fine. I was supposed to have a garden court view. I had the alley. When checking in, the young kid Checked me in, said this is your room number. No where when making the reservation did I see any mention of a $200 room deposit, so I was pissed about that, I made mention of it, asked if I could split up the charges and he just said no. No mention of wifi, no mention of a continental breakfast. Nothing. So, I will choose other options in the future. read more

Place was great for the price. Went for Memorial Day weekend 2025 and it's close to everything. The rooms are clean (did the check before unpacking). Staff is very friendly and helpful, close to muni and BART, comfy beds. I would say if I could change one thing it would be a little more light but I ain't gonna knock it for that. Fantastic customer service from the front desk and the rooms are great, looks likely they were recently renovated. Very unique establishment and comes with free breakfast. Rooms have their own bathrooms(not a given in SF), WiFi and are pretty large in size. I'd give it 5 stars but the surrounding area...YIKES! They have plenty of security on site, but if you are from out of state and aren't familiar with the homeless or drug epidemic in San Francisco, it's best to avoid this part of town. You're gonna experience it at some level throughout the city, but this area especially is rough. read more
