Wow! Can you say bou-gie with a pop of panache! Let's just say I love, love, love this location! We had a funeral to attend in the City and did not want to travel back to Sacramento or rush to SF. We opted to stay at the King George Hotel! I am so glad we did. The ambience, the staff, the breakfast in the morning............................ where do I start? We arrived around 1:00 am in the morning. Staff was at the desk just as cheerful as a country morning! They were friendly, helpful and what I needed to see! It did not take forever to check-in and the room was perfect for my family! The beds were so soft and comfortable! The bathrooms were immaculate, and the entire place smelled divine!!! Breakfast................. so many options. The fruit was fresh. The coffee was hot. And there were enough pastries for both of my thighs!! Did I mention they had a full bar!!! Come through with all the amenities!! Now that is my good..................................... The bad..... not too much. Although the windows are fully functional and open open. So be careful with the kiddos. The walls are thin..... my sister heard us talking the entire night. Good thing it was just her complaining! LOL There is one elevator that takes forever !! But hey do not be in a rush to go anywhere! LOL I recommend this hotel for the working class, Entrepeneur (with patience), business class, no children, teen friendly, more mature crowd. Oh and make sure....... do NOT get the rooms by the elevator. Room 800 is literally right there!

Five stars for location. It's right in Union Square and there are plenty places that are within walking distance. It's a very safe neighborhood with lots to do. Five stars for convenience. There's an awesome parking garage right across the street that's independently operated and charges a fee, but it's a nice to have covered, secure parking, especially because street parking is hard to come by. Five stars for the staff / service. I didn't have any special needs, but everybody was great and very friendly and helpful. Three stars for comfort. My room was super small, which is mostly fine since I was traveling alone, but I even kind of bumped into myself in the room, especially in the bathroom. It was totally fine for one night, but it would have gotten annoying after that. The room also had a good ceiling fan and the windows did open, but the street was a little too loud to keep the windows open, even on the 9th floor. Five stars for cleanliness. Everything was impeccable. Five stars for atmosphere. A cute theme that matches the vintage building. Unfortunately the bar was not open when I came home relatively early on a Saturday night. That would have been a nice spot to hang out at. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to my friends, although I would be wary of how large a room would be for more than one person.

Just want to respond to this photo and point out that the "website pic" is actually a meeting room set up for business/meeting purposes it seems. If you look carefully at the photo, you'll see that there are notebooks at each place setting. Sorry you got confused Ki D!

On the brighter side, the gentleman who committed to calling me back with the disposition of my tablet did indeed call me back and met my expectation. Not sure what your name is but I do want to say thank you for that you were the brighter part of the whole trip. As for the rest of the crew, you saw the review. Thanks for owning that solution.

Its an older hotel that needs alottt of work. I was told by a tour guide that this hotel was actually a mansion which was converted into a hotel. Not sure how true that is but given how tiny the rooms are and the set up of the entire hotel I can actually see that. The customer service was superb, each and every employee tried there absolute best to make our stay wonderful for my daughters birthday however, staying at this hotel was unpleasant. I loved the theme and the decorations of this hotel. This was part of the reason I booked it due to my daughters affinity with all things UK. Also because of where the hotel is situated, in the heart of union square which makes it pretty much close by all things attraction wise in San Francisco. Our room was on the second floor. The elevator was broken so you had to use the stairs. The problem with the stairs was that they were very narrow, hardly any lighting, and spiraled straight up. very dangerous for elderly and people carrying heavy luggage or items up and down the stairs. Also other guests were constantly coming and going up and down the stairs, it was just a hassle since there was barley any room to move around. The room was very tiny, with two very tiny twin beds in it. There's no air conditioner, and a really old heater that needs water to work with only 2 settings. They have windows in the bathroom that don't shut properly and have no screen on them so the cold air and noise from outside blows in the room all night. Our heater did not work so maintenance came and fixed it, 24 hours later same thing. I would have to call maintenance every single time I wanted to turn on some heat. There was no floor length mirror in the room, the hot water would waver on and off, and the bar downstairs only served 2 types of wines and 1 type of beer. What I did enjoy at the hotel was every morning there was a nice coffee and tea bar. Also all the hotel staff were very friendly , it wasn't there fault I had a bad experience at all. They were just working with the scraps they were given chile!

They allowed early check in at 3pm instead of 4. We got a queen bed with the worst, most inconvenient, dinky restroom. I should have asked for an upgrade, but I needed to be somewhere right after arriving. I plopped my stuff and left. The restroom was so tiny and the door opened at the most inconvenient direction. The door rubs against the electrical outlet; and it swings into the bathroom and hits the toilet. The sinks mirror is at the corner and it's so small that you have to pivot from the sink to see yourself.. This was so inconvenient. You'd have to avoid the door to use the toilet. If the bathroom didn't do this, I'd be fine, but if you are larger than me (a petite and short woman), I would not recommend the staying here. It's okay in cleanliness In the case that the only elevator is down, the spiral stairs are so narrow and uneven, that it is awful to get down. If you have a medical emergency, you probably would need to expect a long wait time for them to take you down; that's if you don't fall off the stretcher. Location wise, it's near everything, but also the neighbourhood is sketchy. If you turn the corner up on mason st, near the CVS it gets better. Otherwise, I feel unsafe walking around alone.

This hotel is in a great location and it's such a great value! It's clean and the bed is comfortable. Provisions include bathrobes, Italian body wash, shampoo and lotion, coffee and tea, free WiFi. The lobby provides pool, darts, board games, and books or newspapers for your use during your stay. It's an old building with all the charm but, with that said, the rooms are small, the elevator is small, and there is no AC. The location, cleanliness, and mostly the excellent customer service specifically by Vivian ( day desk) and Jay ( night desk, bar tender etc etc ) by far outweigh any cons of this hotel. When we checked in we realized we were there a day late! I still don't know how I got the dates mixed up but Vivian accommodated us and smoothed things over quite well. Thank you Vivian! Your kindness and welcoming demeanor are what hotels should strive towards. And Jay, after we returned from dinner, was in charge of the front desk and the bar. He went back and forth and was very attentive to our needs and was very friendly. If it was purely based on service alone, I would give it 5 stars.

It has been an interesting stay at King George. It's a cute little hotel but I was very disappointed with the service. They forgot to clean our rooms and replenish our complementary items. I even gave the service folks my list of needed items: coffee, tea, lotion, towels, beds being made, etc. Sigh. My favorite unforeseen event: one of the employees opened up our room door without knocking and confirming we were not there. He just opened it and attempted to walk in. Haha...wow! What if we were changing or doing some private stuff? This has never happened to me before. Lol. Plus side: the front staff was very sweet and nice. Very accommodating and supportive. I don't know where the communication broke down with the overall staff. It's so disappointing. Sigh. So, book at your own risk.

Reservation of smoking, proving smoking reservation and showing that this was a Smokin Hotel

Alert!! Alert!!! Warning Warning!!!! Before I get into the grit, grim, unpleasantries of this review I would like to say in all this chaotic mess, Gabriele is the best employee, the best supervisor, and a ultimate customer service handler. This man should be the manager of the of this hotel. There are pictures to back my event. When I booked the room through my T-Mobile app. I had every intention on booking a smoking room.,even in my pics you will see my reservation was confirmed with a smoke large bed. Upon arriving at the hotel we are greeted by Gabriele at the front desk which at the time I did not know was the supervisor who was very kind with his greeting. There was also another man sitting beside him at the time I did not know that he was not the supervisor. Gabriel tried to offer my friend and I a early check in by paying just $30 that was agreeable so we could change and freshen up but the employee on the side of Gabriel spoke up started fussing about some nonsense looking at his watch saying it's too late and that's not agreeable The guy said that you can do it for $50 I said never mind, we will just store our luggage until 4:00 PM which is the proper check in no biggie. Moving forward towards day two. By now I have smoked medical cannabis in the room. By the way, my room look more like a small apartment. It did not look like the pictures at all on the website.,there was mold in the bathroom which could've been prevented because there was a window there, but they bolted it shut. There is mold in the only window in the room. The room is way small. It's hardly room for two people. There's no screen behind the window to keep the bugs out and they bolted that to a certain point so you can only open it so far see all in pics. Now, to finish the threat of the second day. The lady who I didn't know at the time was the housekeeping manager, which she did not identify herself my friend and I thought she was knocking on the door to try to clean the room which we weren't ready to leave yet, so we said come back. But she kept banging on the door , we opened it to see what the commotion was. She started you're smoking in this room is a $500 fine you will be paying it and that's it. I was confused because I've been here for three mornings the room has been cleaned and left my trashy water bottle that I had my guts from my cigar and ashes from me smoking medical cannabis I tried to explain to the lady where the confusion started in booking. She said she don't care she's not listening to anything I had to say and I will be charged $500, rude, rude rude!!! she was smoking mad and you could see she was shaking and how angry she was. Since the lady wouldn't listen. I went to go find a hotel manager and to my surprise that's when I found out it was Gabriele. I explain to him the situation he did apologize for his employees behavior. He did not charge us the $500 but he was instructed to charge me $200 for deep cleaning And now we are instructed for the rest of this stay to go smoke in the alley. That is where all the homeless people gather get naked get changed build tents I am a female, my friends, is a female, and you want us to stand in a alley? You can see how shady the other side of the hotel look and also far as the deep cleaning it was never cleaned properly in the first place, and we were deceived from the website, please please please do not even book this hotel for your dogs. I would just stay anywhere else but there. this is one King that needs to be brought down. PS, you can request to remove the homeless out of the alley.

Bath room door , falling off . Wife not happy as she could not get out . Had to open from other side

Worst place i ever stayed in San Fran. Location , service, quality of room all appalling. Outdated room , small and not very nice. See for yourself in the photos below . I was visiting from Florida and very disappointed in San Fran . City has definitely gotten worse , with homeless and unclean environment. Will not be coming here Ever to this hotel . From their photos outside looks good but dont be fooled. Checking in expensive was lousy . The lady was on the phone for hours it seemed and ignored us . Room with bathroom was small had peeling wallpaper and door handle falling off . Rusty and unkept room . See pics Currently staying at a Hilton . Cost a little bit more but well worth it.

The hotel has two restaurants, one for breakfast and one for bar and dinner. But there are so many good restaurants nearby as well. Convenient. When it was my turn at the counter, we were checked in pretty quickly and given a run down of the layout and weekend activities. Fresh water is provided right by the elevators so you can fill water bottles before heading to your rooms. And in the morning, hot coffee is provided right before you head out for the day. Pretty thoughtful. My stay was two nights, and the first night the street music and sounds came thru loud and clear. But the second night, it was quiet outside. So it's unpredictable if my stay would be relaxing or nerve racking. The room for 3 was a good size with a large bathroom, large windows of street view, and sizable writing desk, and arm chair. I got to use the gym once and it had all the general equipment and fairly large room. Upon check out, we received the kid welcome gift which was supposed to be at check in, but check in was chaotic so it was better late than never. However, from the very beginning to end ranged from confusion, annoyance, to plain nightmare. The check in process was confusing and and cumbersome. I was given no check in information, and there was no front desk. The intercom at the front door did not even work, and I had to call their actual "front desk" who apparently said they did not have my information on file and made me go through these annoying steps just to find my hotel room key in a lock box. The most frustrating and nightmarish experience came the next day when I lost the hotel room key (a physical key). I called the "front desk" several times but received no answer then finally got one after about 10 minutes. When I told the man at the "front desk," he told that he would have to speak to the housekeeper. After waiting for another 10 minutes, he informed me that I would be getting fined $200 for the lost room key, which is plain ridiculous, since they didn't have a replacement key (other than the housekeeper's key). I understand a $25 or $50 fee for a lost key but $200 for a freaking key???! After waiting for about 40 minutes total, he finally walked over with my replacement key and begged me not to lose it since that would mean the housekeeper can't even get in (how laughable). What's worse was that the other guests were able to use their phone or a passcode to get in since all the room had e-locks. When I asked the man at the "front desk" why I needed a physical key, he said that not all of the e-locks were working--including the one for my room. What a load BS. A horribly dingy hotel that can't even get its most basic sh*t together. Stay at this incompetently run hotel at your own risk or better yet find much better options.

The property doesn't really have a real lobby, spa, and the restaurant is average, as in the quality of the food was just not top notch, and they have access to the best ingredients. They only have two elevators and are quite slow, at a busy time this can be quite annoying. The room itself was small, no real furniture, would have been nice to have a sofa and table with two chairs. There was no dresser. The bathroom was great for one, but small for two. The shower didn't have a bench, no his or her's sinks. The bed when we got into it was super soft and not supportive, when we called they did something really odd and put a board on the mattress and then a topper. I guess they have a guest that asks for this. Why didn't the service people know they have a firm version of the mattress topper they could have switched for us. We didn't have the best sleep. Again, usually the Four Seasons beds are amazing. While this property doesn't charge regular Four Seasons prices, it also doesn't deliver the experience and it would be a shame if the brand started doing this.

For those used to staying at JW Marriotts or similar level of luxury or higher, this property will…read morelikely feel underwhelming to you. Those that a hotel of this level is an infrequent splurge, or stay here with tempered expectations, may find it satisfying depending on the rate/perks you got. We paid a little over $300 a night including all fees/taxes but as AMEX Platinum members got extra credit and perks so our total credits/perks were worth about $300 total for the two nights including an $80/day breakfast credit. So it was about like staying for $150/night with no credits/perks. Given location/amenities, I think up to around $200/night would be a fair discount rate (as of Summer 2026) Location: is good for tourists and the area in general feels safe and clean as the city has cleaned this area up a bit from previous years. Parking: $94 a day for valet (no self park.) Yep, welcome to Downtown San Francisco. You could valet park in the small garage across the street for $32 but no in/out privileges. Lobby/Check-in: It's an atrium style hotel with lobby on the 3rd floor. Check-in was easy. Lobby is nice with a bar and lots of seating with a whole other seating area to the side and behind the bar. They have their climate control too cold though in the Lobby. Dining: There's only one restaurant at lobby level with just a view of the building next door. Prices are very high but short of outrageous considering you are in a JW in the middle of San Francisco. We thought it would be hard for 2 people to use the $80 credit for breakfast. Not so when average breakfast entrees are in the $33-$38 range. We also ate dinner in the restaurant. The food for both breakfast and dinner was excellent. Not Michelin Star level of course, and overpriced, but actually pretty quite good for a hotel restaurant. Note there is a setup for a Buffet Breakfast (were told it is $52/person when open) but they didn't run it on Saturday or Sunday so there was a bit of a wait to get a seat in the restaurant for breakfast. Rooms: Rooms are decent size and well-furnished in good condition but although they don't feel outdated, they feel a little 'tired around the edges' so to speak. If you want that freshly renovated feel, you won't get it here. Bathroom size is going to vary as our large corner room with a sitting area with table had a very small bathroom and our neighbors had a smaller room but with a decent size bathroom. Street noise was minimal on the 12th floor but if you are sensitive to the noise, I wouldn't go any lower than floor 10. Views will vary but likely will be of the side of another building through what I call 'prison windows' which is a smaller than average window opening inset within a concrete looking surround. Bed was comfortable, mattress was good but felt slightly stiff/tired as though it was probably getting near then end of its lifespan but still quite comfortable. Linens very good. So overall good beds but nothing to write home about. I had read the reviews and although I typically stay in this level of a hotel I had tempered my expectations and so the stay was satisfying and served its purpose with no unpleasant surprises. If you want to be less prone to having an overcharged feeling: a) Use valet across the street or SpotHero app to find cheaper in/out parking nearby (if you have a car) and b) don't bother eating/drinking in the hotel -- go elsewhere to non-hotel restaurants to eat and drink.
