You have to use your key on the wall to get most of the lights to work. The room was clean and cozy. The fridge was cold, and there is both coffee and tea. The beds were so comfortable and so were the pillows. A very comfortable nights sleep. We didn't have a chance to have breakfast at it is from 6-9am. The check out is simple just drop keys into the box at the front desk.

My daughter has a fractured ankle (unrelated) so when we entered the room, on May 26, 2026, we had our daughter sit on the couch while we wiped down the rest of the room. Nothing too crazy but the remote was sticky, there were a couple of hairs in the sink, and the door handle to the bathroom was pretty gross. Everything else was relatively clean and there were no bed bugs on the bed or curtains. I thought we were safe. Then I saw my daughter's back after her shower. I've included a picture. I couldn't pinpoint the source of the issue yet so we put lotion on her and went to bed. The next day we went to the Safari Park so we weren't in the room until the evening. That's when I sat on the couch. Within a few minutes. I started to get itchy. I immediately got off the couch and showered. So now we've identified the issue. The couch. By this time, we were already packed up to check out the next morning so it didn't make sense to switch rooms and have to wipe down another room. At check out, on May 28, 2026, I informed the front desk about the issue with couch and let them know that they should inspect it. I didn't ask for compensation, just that they need to clean the couch and possible steam it because I suspected that it was dust or dust mites that caused the reactions. On the morning June 2, 2026, our daughter still had red marks on her back so this must be more serious than I initially thought. I called Marriott customer service. Janice was so nice, apologizing for the experience and offer to put in a request to refund one nights room rate and taxes. I thought that was fair and thank her. That evening, I get an email for Rachel Ramos, Operations manager of SpringHill Suites Escondido (cc to Devon Akpom, the General Manager, I believe), saying that they were denying the refund request because they looked in the room and "didn't see anything" except a June bug. Girl. Since when can you see dust or dust mites on a fabric couch? A dismissal with an add insult to my intelligence. I reached back out to Marriott customer service on June 3, 2026 and spoke with Gloria. She said she couldn't override their decision so I asked to the issue to be escalated. She said that maybe if I reached out to Rachel Ramos, that maybe they'll offer me Marriott Bonvoy points. I let her know that I'm not interested in Bonvoy points because if this issue isn't resolved, I won't be staying at any more Marriott Hotels. Today is June 4, 2026. My daughter still has red marks on her back, even after Children's Allegra and lotion. We'll have to take her to the pediatrician. Don't make the mistake I did of booking a room here.

Gaby checked us out and she was super friendly. Our room was beautiful. The bathroom is lovely with a gorgeous huge walk in shower. Only complaint is it was hard to do my makeup because the lighting is very dim, so being a lighted makeup mirror...loved the closet and refrigerator and nice tv. The mattress was super comfortable and comfy pillows too. Breakfast was yummy and loved the coffee and waffle bar. (Don't forget to flip it so the timer goes on, should have a direction for that!) the breakfast area was nice and also an outdoor patio with heater is great. Wanted to take a jacuzzi but it was full with people and it's not very big. The pool is big. The whole experience was great and I highly recommend staying here and hope to be back in future.

The room itself was what you would expect from a typical Marriott property. Clean, comfortable, and nothing out of the ordinary. The most disappointing part for me was the breakfast. As someone who eats plant based, my options were extremely limited. I ended up having oatmeal and bananas both mornings while watching most guests enjoy bacon and eggs. I was honestly expecting a bit more variety, especially fresh fruit, which feels like a basic for a standard Western hotel breakfast. On a positive note, the guy sitting on the bench outside was the best part. Overall, it was an okay stay, but I do wish there were more inclusive breakfast options, especially at that price point.

After doing a quick "around me" search, Holiday Inn Express & Suites San Diego-Escondido popped up. Doing a cross-check between Yelp and Google, I saw that they had pretty good reviews. Being that they only had two rooms available for the desired price, I did not hesitate to book the reservation. Although the establishment had good reviews pertaining to the cleanliness and amenities of the hotel, poor customer service was a reoccurring theme in the reviews that I read. Therefore, I was shocked when I entered the establishment and was warmly greeted by a front desk employee by the name of Mark. Mark informed me about the hotel's amenities (including the free breakfast) and quickly checked me in. He also saw that I had dinner from the nearby California Fish Grill (the hotel is in close proximity to many restaurants and fast food establishments) and offered my utensils...talk about being attentive! My third floor room was very clean and appropriately furnished (to my delight the room had both a refrigerator and microwave). Although the room faced the busy freeway, the insulation was so good that I could barely hear anything. I liked the little touches such as the mirror with built-in vanity lighting around the perimeter. My only gripe was that the television was a traditional model with a few cable channels; in 2025 I would expect all hotel rooms to be equipped with a SMART TV that has built-in streaming platforms (e.g., Netflix, HBO Max). The following day, I grabbed a coffee from the cafeteria and quickly checked out. I enjoyed my stay here and will return if I'm in the area again!
