DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! The filthiest place I have ever been to, in my whole life-- & Im old! Where do I even start? Large clump of mold in the back of the coffee maker; Toilet lid had pee (or something) on it; I scrubbed the toilet &a sick to make it sanitary for us (but left the gross band aids that were stuck to the tank); Every light switch was beyond dirty; Laminate floors had not been mopped in months (at least); Thick clumps of dust & crud all around the super old A/C that didn't really work; Dirt & crud in every drawer; Had to put a bottle cap under night stand to make it Level to keep the drawer closed; Ceiling light hanging down; Lot of dog poop not picked up in the pet area. This place was so bad, I wouldn't even let my dog walk on the floor! Unfortunately, all hotels in the area were sold out, & we were forced to stay 2 nights! Resembled a transient take over, with live in residents, drug deals in the open, and more undesirable behavior taking place. I will be reporting them to the health dept.!

You have to use your key on the wall to get most of the lights to work. The room was clean and cozy. The fridge was cold, and there is both coffee and tea. My daughter has a fractured ankle (unrelated) so when we entered the room, on May 26, 2026, we had our daughter sit on the couch while we wiped down the rest of the room. Nothing too crazy but the remote was sticky, there were a couple of hairs in the sink, and the door handle to the bathroom was pretty gross. Everything else was relatively clean and there were no bed bugs on the bed or curtains. I thought we were safe. Then I saw my daughter's back after her shower. I've included a picture. I couldn't pinpoint the source of the issue yet so we put lotion on her and went to bed. The next day we went to the Safari Park so we weren't in the room until the evening. That's when I sat on the couch. Within a few minutes. I started to get itchy. I immediately got off the couch and showered. So now we've identified the issue. The couch. By this time, we were already packed up to check out the next morning so it didn't make sense to switch rooms and have to wipe down another room. At check out, on May 28, 2026, I informed the front desk about the issue with couch and let them know that they should inspect it. I didn't ask for compensation, just that they need to clean the couch and possible steam it because I suspected that it was dust or dust mites that caused the reactions. On the morning June 2, 2026, our daughter still had red marks on her back so this must be more serious than I initially thought. I called Marriott customer service. Janice was so nice, apologizing for the experience and offer to put in a request to refund one nights room rate and taxes. I thought that was fair and thank her. That evening, I get an email for Rachel Ramos, Operations manager of SpringHill Suites Escondido (cc to Devon Akpom, the General Manager, I believe), saying that they were denying the refund request because they looked in the room and "didn't see anything" except a June bug. Girl. Since when can you see dust or dust mites on a fabric couch? A dismissal with an add insult to my intelligence. I reached back out to Marriott customer service on June 3, 2026 and spoke with Gloria. She said she couldn't override their decision so I asked to the issue to be escalated. She said that maybe if I reached out to Rachel Ramos, that maybe they'll offer me Marriott Bonvoy points. I let her know that I'm not interested in Bonvoy points because if this issue isn't resolved, I won't be staying at any more Marriott Hotels. Today is June 4, 2026. My daughter still has red marks on her back, even after Children's Allegra and lotion. We'll have to take her to the pediatrician. Don't make the mistake I did of booking a room here.

BUT THE MAIN THING THAT REALLY HURT MY FEELINGS, after 3 days of hiking around the beach, and walking around all the shops, i was so so ready to sit in the hot tub before a long drive back home... walk to the hot tub, get my feet in, COLD 70° no sign, no warning. i was sad. other than that i would stay here again, good pricing, good area.

We hoped it wouldn't be an issue in the room, and checked in. Unfortunately, upon entering the room (210, 2nd floor) we realized the smell was throughout the hotel and it was going to be difficult to sleep. We opened the window, but, since the smell was outside, airing things out wasn't helpful. We decided we couldn't stay and went back to the front desk to explain the issue and let them know we wouldn't be staying. The front-desk employee was polite, but unable to refund our reservation and gave us the phone # of management. We were tired, and, if we could have stayed, we would have. Nobody wants to throw away the cost of a reservation. But the smell was unbearable. I can't blame the hotel for the air quality. That's out of their control. We looked online and found that North San Diego County has periodic issues (mostly from a Tijuana River raw sewage issue). But, they should either make customers aware or allow for cancellations on bad days. As suggested, I called and spoke with manager Raj who actually said he didn't believe me that there was an odor issue and he wouldn't refund the reservation. I was surprised at his response. I said that I would include that in my review (I like writing reviews and if you look, you'll see that I give lots of mostly-5 star reviews in which I try to include lots of useful pro/con details). Raj felt I was threatening. I do understand that - reviews can be used inappropriately. I said "no, I'm just letting you know that I do reviews and include my genuine experiences - good or bad." At this point, Raj said "I am not going to refund you your money" and hung up on me. That was weird - I never raised my voice and remained positive and constructive on the call. It was a genuinely bizarre call.

Gaby checked us out and she was super friendly. Our room was beautiful. The bathroom is lovely with a gorgeous huge walk in shower. The mattress was super comfortable and comfy pillows too. Breakfast was yummy and loved the coffee and waffle bar. (Don't forget to flip it so the timer goes on, should have a direction for that!) the breakfast area was nice and also an outdoor patio with heater is great. Wanted to take a jacuzzi but it was full with people and it's not very big. The pool is big. The whole experience was great and I highly recommend staying here and hope to be back in future.

The room itself was what you would expect from a typical Marriott property. Clean, comfortable, and nothing out of the ordinary. The most disappointing part for me was the breakfast. As someone who eats plant based, my options were extremely limited. I ended up having oatmeal and bananas both mornings while watching most guests enjoy bacon and eggs. I was honestly expecting a bit more variety, especially fresh fruit, which feels like a basic for a standard Western hotel breakfast. On a positive note, the guy sitting on the bench outside was the best part. Overall, it was an okay stay, but I do wish there were more inclusive breakfast options, especially at that price point.

After doing a quick "around me" search, Holiday Inn Express & Suites San Diego-Escondido popped up. Doing a cross-check between Yelp and Google, I saw that they had pretty good reviews. Being that they only had two rooms available for the desired price, I did not hesitate to book the reservation. Although the establishment had good reviews pertaining to the cleanliness and amenities of the hotel, poor customer service was a reoccurring theme in the reviews that I read. Therefore, I was shocked when I entered the establishment and was warmly greeted by a front desk employee by the name of Mark. Mark informed me about the hotel's amenities (including the free breakfast) and quickly checked me in. He also saw that I had dinner from the nearby California Fish Grill (the hotel is in close proximity to many restaurants and fast food establishments) and offered my utensils...talk about being attentive! My third floor room was very clean and appropriately furnished (to my delight the room had both a refrigerator and microwave). Although the room faced the busy freeway, the insulation was so good that I could barely hear anything. I liked the little touches such as the mirror with built-in vanity lighting around the perimeter. My only gripe was that the television was a traditional model with a few cable channels; in 2025 I would expect all hotel rooms to be equipped with a SMART TV that has built-in streaming platforms (e.g., Netflix, HBO Max). The following day, I grabbed a coffee from the cafeteria and quickly checked out. I enjoyed my stay here and will return if I'm in the area again!

Driving in and out of the hotel was a pain. This hotel isn't your typical hotel with restaurants in it. There wasn't food nearby within the hotel so I had to rely on food delivery. At least with the rooms, you can prepare your own food which is a plus. Their continental breakfast was basic, but did the job. The rooms which are coined suites, are large and spacious. The big downfall is really the paper thin walls. Even when wearing earplugs, I can hear the next door neighbors. The noise kept waking me up, resulting in a bad nights sleep. I wouldn't stay here again. Also, they charge $5/day for onsite parking which is obnoxious.

However, the pots and pans were not cleaned by the prior occupant/house keeping. The daily breakfast was okay. The hot portion usually consists of scrambled eggs and sausage (pork/turkey). There is also a nice assortment of breads and bagels, oatmeal, and cereals. There are also two waffle makers. My boys enjoyed the waffle maker and the chocolate milk the most. The best part of the Residence Inn for our family is the pool room. They recently added an Arcade OneUp Machine, which you can play for free. You have to give a drivers license now to get the pool table gear. We think has cut down on who uses the pool room. The nightly front desk attendant was friendly and courteous. The workout room is nice for a daily workout and has a filtered water machine to refill your water bottles.
