Incredible stay. I had an expiring free night certificate so decided to have a lil staycation in the city. We did extensive research for which hotel to choose and ultimately settled on this one. I haven't spent much time in the LES but figured that it would be nice to explore a new neighborhood. I was able to find parking within half a mile on the street. Luck and a little bit of perseverance. We were able to stay with our dogs, which was a nice surprise. Check in was quick and seamless. They upgraded me to a suite which was incredible. One of the best views I've ever had from a hotel. My parents came to visit and couldn't believe it either. The views were from basically any square inch of the room, even in the shower. The size of the room was also more generous than I would expect for NYC. The bed was outrageously comfortable. The thermostat/HVAC worked perfectly. They supplied plenty of sheets. The duvet was much lighter than what is typically provided in hotels which I actually liked. I find that I am usually sweating bullets no matter how arctic I set the temperature. I was able to set the temp to be a little warmer and still be comfortable. Needless to say the neighborhood is great, there is basically anything you could want within a few minutes walk. I would definitely stay here again next time I am in the area. read more

What a great week we had in New York City, staying at Hotel on Rivington. Literally a perfect location for getting to Brooklyn, great shops, tourist attractions and amazing restaurants all around the area. Some highlights- The staff was amazing! SO SO SO SO SO helpful. Attentive, kind, hardworking and very accommodating. We would be notified of the complimentary wine hour or apple cider when they had it in the lobby for guests. Seriously, cannot say more about how amazing every single staff member was! The room was absolutely amazing with floor to ceiling windows! Great view! The room was always clean and bed made up when we wanted the room attendants to come in. They did an amazing job as well. They also have a very cute bar in the hotel called Kin Gin. Great cocktails! Bar tender was very attentive and kind as well! Did not get to try the food, but it all looked great! I know they are doing some remodeling and updating the rooms. Cannot wait to see what changes they make in our future visits! We only had one issue with the shower being too hot and we were unable to figure out how to turn and adjust it to be a colder (trust me, it was like scolding hot or we would have not said anything). Maintenance came by and adjusted the temperature nob because it was not adjusting to the colder temps... Quick fix and no fuss! What a stunning modern, yet cozy hotel. This location is EVERYTHING. Close to food, shopping, the subway, pizza!!! Staying in the lower east side is alway my favorite and this hotel far exceeded my expectations. The smell in the lobby alone draws you in to the ambiance of the space. Small bottles of water available in the lobby were a life saver! And we enjoyed our $30 credit at the bar our last night for a cocktail. We had a group of 5 and were recommended to order a day bed. Which was amazing! It was a little tricky communicating but one we connected with the staff it all worked out. Lighting in the bathroom was poor and not enough hooks to hang towels are my only notes. My 9th floor room was dead quiet on Saturday night, which is impressive because the Lower East Side is still out there acting like last call is a dare. The tub is so big it takes 40 to 50 minutes to fill, which is plenty of time to Google "can you drown in luxury." I stayed here over the summer because I wanted to be in the Lower East Side, and the views looked nice. The views are lovely, but the hotel is so overpriced for what is essentially a motel level of service, cleanliness and care. There was construction going on, starting at 8am on the floor where I was staying. Construction workers came into my room unannounced while I was sleeping, perhaps mistaking what room they were working on. There were stains on the carpet and ceiling and the place looked in serious need of a renovation. I would have been more understanding of these things if it were a decent price, but the price was exorbitant at something like $800 a night. I know this is NYC and it is overpriced, but at that price I expect at least decent sleep and service. Not worth it! read more

We stayed here in May for 3 nights based on the photos of the rooms, the views and the fact that it purports to be a Hilton property. The room rate was about $550/night and we expected a hotel that lived up to that price. Driving up to the hotel, we knew there was a problem. There was no sign and the front entrance looked like someone had abandoned a remodel project. There was no bell desk or anyone at the door and no one to help with luggage. The front desk clerk pointed us to a luggage rack and then told us to just leave it in the middle of the lobby...where it stayed until we returned from parking the car. The views from the room were spectacular but the room and the hallways were rundown and pretty grubby--worn, dirty carpet in the hall, stains on the walls, holes in the curtains and pieces of tile missing in the bathroom. For the location, we could have lived with all of that but the AC was barely functioning in the building and our room was about 85 degrees. After we alerted the staff, each day someone would go to our room and make the AC work for a portion of the day. Most guests were having this problem and everyone headed to the lobby to cool off and try to go to the bar that the hotel gives you a $10 voucher for. The bartender was amazing the first night but the bar was closed the next two as there was no AC in there. The staff was friendly but fairly clueless as to how to address the issues. The whole vibe in the lobby screamed "hip hostel". There was no manager for our entire stay and seemingly no one in charge. At the end of our stay we requested they modify the room rate and they refunded us about $30 of some sort of "resort fee". This used to be an upscale hotel. There are tons of nicer places to stay at this price point. Go to one of those. read more

New Hilton property that is convenient to where I need to be in the city. It is going through a much needed renovation. It had gotten a little long in the tooth. At this point it is still mid(ish) renovation. Up side: Location is great! Size of the rooms and bathrooms are exceptional by NYC standards. We will not be staying at this hotel ever again. The area where this hotel is located is not the best part of town. I would not bring my kids to this hotel. The check in process was fine. Walking to our room, there were stains on the hallway carpet. When we walked into our room, we noticed debris on the floor. The floors were dirty because the dirt was sticking to our feet. The a/c unit cover was barely on. There is an inch gap between the door and our door so we could hear everything going on in the hallways. There was no sheer curtain on our large window; so it was either blackout curtains or everyone could see us in our room. The pillows are super flat and uncomfortable to sleep on. I requested new pillows and those were flat too. A fourth of the tv channels did not work on the tv. On the first night we were there, the maintenance man woke us up at 10pm to check on the A/C. I'm assuming there was a complaint from a previous guest and he was confirming the problem was fixed. The facility has hard water. On our second day, the toilet chain for the flushing lever broke. There was also a leak under the sink, ruining my items I stored on the shelf underneath the sink. The staff listened to all of my concerns and were very respectful. They refunded us the facility fees but it truly does not feel like it was enough. The front desk manager emailed me offering 30% off our next stay and a premium suite, which makes no sense because why would we ever come back? Booked a 3-night stay here for my first time ever in NYC for work. Since the price differential was pretty minimal, opted to book a premium room with a city view. On the night that I arrived, and for part of the following day, they had a doorman who was there to open the door for you upon arrival. A nice touch, especially when your hands are full of luggage or take out, and you also have to fumble to take out your keycard to get in. Despite this property just going through some major renovation last year, the room itself was not as new or clean as I would have expected. Some pros and cons I noted during my stay: Pros: -Convenient walking distance to many nearby eateries and bars -The premium room was very spacious -City view offers a great view of the city skyline, especially from the 15th floor where I was at. And from my angle, I could even see part of the Williamsburg bridge. -Showers heat up right away, easy to control temperature, and has great water pressure -Memory foam mattress beds -Free breakfast (bagels, danish, and coffee) every morning from 8am-9:30am, on the 2nd floor -Daily housekeeping -Good hairdryers that look new, and work well Cons: -The bathroom had a clear window for half of the shower, facing outside. Which meant someone in one of the buildings across from me could technically see people naked while they were showering. -The bathroom sink was flat, which created pooling issues at times, and prevented the water from draining properly. -The room was not very clean. You can tell housekeeping comes through to clean, but certain details seem to be missed (handles, faucets, knobs, light switches, etc..). -The room has a very dark, modern pop art decor. While some people may find it cool, it lacked the bright warmth that I look forward to in a hotel room. -No luggage rack While my overall stay was decent, and the room served its purpose, the overall lack of cleanliness, questionable decor, and additional $30 resort fee per night for minimal amenities, on top of a ~$300/night rate, makes this hotel one I will most likely not be booking again for my next NYC trip. read more

TL;DR: staff 6/5 physical property 3.5ish/5 I booked my trip back during the 2023 cyber monday sale for the second-third week of January 2024. Leading up to the trip, I almost cancelled and booked somewhere else because of the limited pictures on their website, the hotel's inactive social media presence (not as many guests tagged them either), and the reviews across all websites are a bit polarizing or mostly old. Before staying: -leading up to the trip, I would call the hotel and ask random questions. Front desk answered all helpfully and professionally. -they went above and beyond for a couple accommodations that were available at my time of stay. During the stay: -I noticed a few things in my room upon entering and took some pics and showed the front desk like hey...just wanna make sure we don't get in trouble for this. the guy was like okay but didn't really look at the pic. They're aware there's a few things off about the room. They're in the middle of renovations -never made it to breakfast because we were still on CA time and I would rather eat food from elsewhere -made it to wine hour LOL they have white label Rivington wines that were actually pretty good!Gabriel was attending the wine hour the first night and we would bump into him occasionally downstairs. He's awesome! -front desk is super nice and remembered us after the 2nd day. -texting front desk is clutch -had some other issues with the room like power but they were very apologetic and fixed it asap -had one turn over. trash cans cleared, beds made, and fresh towels -they accept packages After the stay: -they held our bag for us while we went to go eat lunch since our flight got delayed. very clutch. My only other experience in NYC was at Moxy East Village and that place was super dusty compared to here. Tbh we're really easy going guests and if something isn't "set" we just ask to get it fixed. My only requirements for this trip was clean air (asthmatic), comfy bed, and big bathtub. This stay was a steal. I probably wouldn't put full price now but if you can snag a deal it's definitely worth staying. Once they're done renovating they can easily charge 1.5x what we paid. Rivington is awesome in many regards. I booked it through booking.com. Got an option to upgrade a couple weeks after I booked. It was five dollars extra to secure a high floor room with a view. Sold! Easy and great decision for me. Loved the views from my 17th floor room! Where Rivington failed was the bed and the darkness. Mattress was way too firm for my tastes. I don't get it. The spendy hotels I have stayed at in Boston and NYC have the most uncomfortable beds I have ever come across. If they could add a Sleep Number type thing that would be great. Minor gripe? Unable to block off the light from the shower into the bedroom. Window from the outside into the shower and into the main room. Probably some great kinky joy if traveling with a partner. But solo, darkness please. Oh, also, the sink does not drain well at all. You also apparently need to be an engineering major to get the showerhead to turn on. Once you figure it out, the water pressure on the shower head is horrible. The shower drain is a big gaping hole and pretty nasty. I'd rather not post a pic lest somebody lose their lunch. We recently returned to Hotel on Rivington, only to notice it had changed a good deal (under new ownership, I was told). The room was extremely sparse with nearly no furniture, few amenities (towels and wall mounted soaps only). The hallway rugs were stained and dirty. The staff at this hotel are truly one-of-a-kind individuals! I booked the same day (Memorial Day weekend might I add) and it was no hassle getting right in despite them being near full occupancy. I would specifically like to highlight Julian for his incredible hospitality. He was knowledgeable, patient, and detailed. This hotel is conveniently located in a one of a kind neighborhood with everything you need in a short walking distance. For those of you who may be unfamiliar the neighborhood can be a tad noisy as an FYI. If you're anything like me you may enjoy a little chaos (read: fun). We stayed in superior king room on the 18th floor! This room has a separate living space area, private balcony, and complimentary WI-FI. The "cherry on top" would easily be the view of the city from the room! The room was incredibly clean. Continental breakfast is offered (no vegan options) However, there were a few potential drawbacks: The bed was not comfortable, the phones were broken, and the rooms were incredibly cold. When I inquired about additional blankets or things I was told they did not have them. All in all it was a busy weekend. I was there for a week. My wife has been here for 3 because she is producing a tv show. What is good: the location, the staff, the design, the view, the maid service and that it is not a 'party hotel'. Seriously the staff are great. All these things are very good: What isnt so good: The room was janky. The lights above the bed would flash like lightening every time the AC kicked in. One night the lights near the door just came on; first at 2am then again at 3am. The wifi never worked. It kept cutting out. The signal was anaemic. The television worked sometimes but mosty it was just jagged digital lines. There is nothing on anyway - but we couldn't stream video either. There was a glass wall by the bed. It had a decent curtain but with a hug gap that woke us up at 5am every day. The bathroom door was good and heavy but had to be dragged across the floor to open it. the shower was great but it was either HOT or COLD. It took a bit a delicate work to find a good temp. I mean I liked the place and hate to complain but they say its a 4 star hotel. I have stayed in a few and usually these are not an issue. They are aware of the wifi problem - but it never got fixed. I know these are 1st world complaints but I'm embarrassed to say how much money we spent on a place that wasn't as good as our 2 star house. read more

My husband booked it back in January and got NO confirmation or any emails from the hotel. Zero. So he booked something else assuming it didn't go through. Then to his surprise he gets a notice from them less than 24 hours in advanced. (This is after their 48 hour cancelation timeframe) then even when I called desperate and begged for the manager to help and told her that we can't afford to pay for two hotels. They refused. 3.5 stars. We were assigned to be on the 6th floor. We didn't have to wait for the 1600 check in time and was immediately given a room. $100 deposit/night was also charged. The room we were in had seen better days. Street noise can be heard all hours of the night.The electrical panel door had a 4 inch gap and the door was askew. The curtain had not been washed since? It's dusty. The closet light was busted as well. Water pressure is on the low side, amenities are basic. Bed was at least comfy. I would not stay here again. On our first night, I noticed the window in our room was completely unattached to the lever, making it almost impossible to open and shut it. The bathroom door handle also came completely off the door. We had to reattach it and proceed with caution the rest of the stay because it would keep popping off. When leaving early one morning to explore for the day, we had asked the front desk to please make up our room, and also put the sign on our door asking for attention to it. Later that night, we came back to our room left exactly how it was in the morning. The bed was unmade, things still all over the floor. New towels had been brought and set at the foot of our bed, and that was it! On the coldest morning of our stay, I was excited to hop into a hot shower and wake up. The shower would get lukewarm at MOST. It was cold and honestly the final straw. This was the opposite of a relaxing, romantic Valentines Weekend and I'm disappointed as the hotel seemed like it would be a very enjoyable stay. Third time here since it opened but first time since its original entrance had been remodeled as I did not recognize it when we pulled up. If I can ever not stay uptown this is one of if not the go-to New York hotels for me. Although some things like the leather in the elevators need to be renovated, the hotel has withstood time and whereas it once stood as an eclectic eyesore in the neighborhood, it has become a marker in the gentrification of the LES worthy of its nickname, THOR. Arriving early on a Friday morning they were able to accommodate me in my high floor corner king. When you enter these rooms you notice the stark contrast between the dark hallways and the sun-soaked rooms with the floor to ceiling windows. The room is just perfect and the "Showers with great views" where you can open the windows and hear the hustle and bustle of New York are always a highlight for me. I really never think about the television or other entertainment factors here because quite honestly I love the neighborhood so much that I am barely in the room. Right across the street is the Economy candy store and a few blocks away are Russ and Daughters and the Clinton St. Bakery where you can start your day with a great breakfast. Around the corner is the metro station where you can catch the subway to midtown and be there in a short 20 min. ride. The staff are friendly and helpful. When you arrive, just remember that the lobby is on the second floor as the restaurant and cafe is at street level. Any thing to knit-pick? Well the outlets are hard to reach and my apple plugs didn't seem to stay in the wall very well. I love this hotel and can't wait to go back. It has aged nicely and truly blends in with neighborhood. This place is disgusting. Rooms are small old and dirty. Couldn't sleep at all in the bed was up all night itching. If you do manage to fall asleep you won't get to sleep in as there is so much construction going on here. Power tools going all morning banging, it's as if they are in the room can hear everything. Had been here and had a lovely experience pre-Covid (and pre-ownership change). This stay was less so. Pros: Wine happy hour. Kind, helpful doormen (hi, Davis!). Enormous bathtubs that are second to none. And, of course, the location is great. Cons: particularly for the price (for us, after tax and fees, ~$450 for a high floor king bed room), it's not a clean space. It's just not. Stains on the mattress and sheets. A bottle cap left behind the mattress from a prior guest. Weird, horror-looking handprint on the wall. Just not acceptable for a luxury-style hotel. Again: $450?!? I contacted them after this stay to share these photos, and after not receiving a response, had to follow up again. No offer of any sort, just a generic apology. Go to The Standard. Go to Ace. I booked this hotel to spend the weekend in the city for a friend's birthday. The entrance to the hotel is kinda hidden and confusing, but they had someone there to open the door for me. When you get in, you have to take the elevator up to the "first floor" to check in. The room I got was gorgeous and probably one of the best hotels I've stayed in NYC. The room was clean, and even had some cookies on the night stand for us! The cool thing was the patio outside, and I really loved how the bathroom looked. i chose this hotel for it's low price point, square footage, and location. at 350sf per room, and under $200, that is great. however my view was ... wait why even bother having windows and a balcony? why would i want to look at run down apartments and back alleys? the front view is not much better but i was also on a lower floor. the wine hour is nice from 5-6 on the 2nd floor lobby. i will take advantage of the free breakfast in the morning. while the room was big enough, everything seemed to be lacking. small tv, outdated ihome, no full length mirrors, no dresser drawers. plus side: there is a fridge so you can store things you bring. i suggest alcohol, water, and snacks. no coffee in-room. there is a hair dryer though. there are also robes, an umbrella, and a safe. it is a very basic setup. the service was fine. i just wasnt impressed with anything else here. see pics and judge for yourself. read more

There were two men on duty for the weekend, one is lovely and the other was a jerk for anything at all, simple questions etc - the place is not amazing, a little tired and outdated, Minimal amenities...point being if choosing a good deal there are 100 other places one can decide on and service will make or break. Cheaper side - the deal I got for the balcony room was pretty reasonable (although be ready for the additional fee when you get there) Friendly staff- all staff was responsive and quick for action Cons: Accuracy- apparently they closed down the balcony due to it being winter (Feb) wish they would have said something... I mean you extra pay for the balcony room so what's the point if they are closed? Stay far away! This hotel is an over priced dump. It's dark, dreary, and dirty. The staff was friendly and helpful but the accommodations were dirty, worn out, and not at all on the level of a 4-star hotel. Our mini bar was completely empty and filthy. There was thick layers of dust on the curtains and furniture. Our shower had an unfrosted window at waist height. How does that make any sense? The bathroom was gross with noticeable water damage on the walls and a shower head caked in gunk. The Toto toilet worked, sometimes. Most times it took multiple flushes to get anywhere. My skin was crawling the entire time. Luckily it was only a weekend and at the outrageously high price tag I couldn't check out early without losing the money. Go with a better hotel. Worst hotel ever! Internet sucks, housekeeping comes late in the afternoon and does a poor job - sometimes only doing part of the room with dirty cups unattended to. Internet is very slow and erratic. Beds are uncomfortable, the room decor is horrible, the balcony door doesn't lock properly, so if someone want to break in from an adjoining balcony, they can easily do so. The view from our window is an ugly back alley, which is perhaps the only good point, as the alley protects us from the street noise. The neighborhood is okay, but not a place to hang out by any means. Reasonable access to public transportation. read more

ZERO STARS!! If I could, Very unsatisfied with my stay. Staff was rude for the most part, not very helpful and acted as if every request was a bother. One elevator was broken so the elevators were stuffed and slow. Got a text message at 8am asking when we are leaving. Who does that? I have never in my life experienced that. This was not a cheap hotel either it came to 400$ after taxes. Wouldn't allow late check out after arriving at 1:30am. There were three windows in the shower only 3 of which had the fog effect, so I was making eye contact with the AC repair men on the roof of the building across the way while showering and using the restroom. Wouldn't charge our phone for us. You'd think when you are paying this amount of money the guest's experience and satisfaction is important. The bathroom door handle was also broken and the window of the room on the 9th floor opened wide, which I believe is a huge liability as well. So many other hotels near by that are cheaper, cleaner, and much more accommodating. I would recommend a Moxy hotels or Citizens. Stay away!! My boyfriend and I stayed at this Hotel for the first time from December 29, 2018 to December 30, 2018. We booked our reservation months in advance to guarantee us having a beautiful room! However, it was extremely pricey... When we arrived we loved the room, bathroom and view! We didn't enjoy the room for long before we left to go be tourists in the city. Unfortunately, when we came back, my boyfriend found what looked to be a silverfish in our bed! Another unfortunate event was that we had to call the lobby twice before someone came to our room. We even told them that we wanted this taken care of ASAP because we had dinner reservations. When someone came to our room (Jon or John), he had only brought us candles. We told him about the bug in our bed and asked if he could help us and we were told "call the lobby." After telling him we had, he said that a colleague should be coming to help us then. An additional 15 minutes went by before we needed to leave for our reservation so we went down to the lobby and spoke to someone at the front desk. The person who "helped" us just made a snarky comment about why we didn't let John know about our problem which we expressed we did... After becoming disappointed again.... we left for our reservation. When we returned, our bed sheets were changed... but it took four times of making someone aware of our problem and a total of 1+ hours of us making someone aware... Another thing I am upset about is that we had complimentary breakfast with our room at Cafe Medi and when we were checking in, the man at the front desk told us that we were able to order the breakfast and have it delivered to our room. However, the next morning we found out that wasn't the case.. I have this hotel three stars because we paid $530 and didn't get the help we needed nor was anyone wanting to give us a discount or change our room for the inconvenience. I would give this place 3 and half if I could, so I feel the overall rating as it stands is pretty accurate. The location is nicely situated in Lower East Side with some good shops and restaurants very close by. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The view from the bedroom was pretty spectacular - 2 sides of the room were all windows. The room layout was nice with a separate sitting room. The environment felt very private and quiet. OK, so the shower was strong but we only had one wash cloth that was not replaced after the first day. lol. I would have called down if we were there more than 2 nights, and I'm sure they would have accommodated right away. The lighting in the bathroom was *minimal* which was a bit bizarre. A full length mirror would have been helpful, too. Honestly, this room could have been a 10 with not much more effort and $$ invested. read more

Overall I had a good experience. First off the Lower East Side is a great neighborhood. It's similar to the Mission (if you're from San Francisco), but feels less dangerous at night. Cool restaurants, shopping, and nightlife is all nearby. The hotel entrance is whimsical, you enter through a white cavern at ground level where you'll find the hotel restaurant and bar (Thor). The desk staff was very responsive (I had to get an important fax out late night and the front desk guy helped me get it done). The room I stayed in (rate: $495 before tax) felt far more spacious than my past NYC experiences. I really liked how the window shade could be drawn or closed with the touch of a button. Maintenance of the hotel seems to be the one area of weakness. I had a suspicious stain my carpet (which they promptly cleaned) and my shower window had a crack. Neither problem really got in the way of my experience, so I'll let both slide. So the ultimate question, would I stay here again? Sure. read more
