Loved my stay at the Hotel Royal! Staff was helpful in answering pre arrival questions. My 2nd floor room was perfect for a solo traveler. Bed was comfy. My flight arrived early and I was able to check in early for a reasonable fee, since my room was ready. I found everything I wanted to visit was walking distance and for those places I chose to take a Lyft, they were readily available and convenient. I would definitely stay again. I would just stay on the first floor. This awesome hotel is vintage and has no elevators. So even though the stairs are not an issue for me physically, for convenience, I will look at a ground floor room. read more

Located in the historic French Quarter of New Orleans, Hotel Royal deserves five stars for location alone. The property is close enough to walk to all of the local attractions, but with enough distance to enable a full night's sleep if you need it! This historic beauty has all of the charm one would hope to find in a French Quarter hotel dating back to 1790! There is a central courtyard with a network of surrounding walkways and corridoors on multiple levels. Visitors will find beautiful brick and tile, exposed beams, iron lace railings, historical portaits, antique furniture and so much more. Ironically, I'm discovering it's some of these historic qualities that are off-putting to some of the visitors writing reviews on the property. The layout of the hotel is a bit confusing. I've stayed at the property several times, and always seem to get turned around when trying to locate my room. During my last stay I had to walk up two flights of stairs, follow a narrow corridor to a half-stairway that led to a balconied walkway that revealed another corridor with several steps leading to a small foyer with three doors to choose from. I thoroughly enjoyed this heavenly ascent to my room, but others find it nightmarish. Each of the rooms in the hotel have architectual characteristics that make them completely unique. Some of the attic rooms have slanted ceilings with limited headroom, while others might have odd angles and tight spaces. The bed took up 90% of the room during my first stay, whereas another room seemed cavernous during my second visit... but at four times the price! Visitors should be aware that higher priced rooms provide more polished accomocations. That's generally how it works in historic properties. I simply adore all of the historic quirks and charm at Hotel Royal, and I'll likely return next time I'm in New Orleans. Visitors with concerns about creaky floors, tight spaces and accessibility should definitely ask questions when booking their room. No two rooms are alike in this 225 year old building. read more

Ahhh. I'm the biggest nerd ever. This has been on my list of must go to hotels for the longest time. Why? The original opening scene was filmed here. See? I said nerd i have been to the quarter quite a few times and we've stayed at many different hotels. Then I found out about this place when I was researching my places to check out that was connected to filming of the show and it was quickly added to my list. Smack dab in the middle of the quarter for those who are traveling there. The hotel holds that old historic charm reception area is beautiful and updated with a more modern feel. I was in nola with family for Thanksgiving and after they flew out I had booked my plane ticket an extra 2 days out just so that I could spend some time in the quarter. And just my luck this time I was actually able to book a room here. My excitement was off the wall. I was jumping for joy. I ended up going to the quarter earlier than the normal check in time since my sister had flown out back to CA early. I was just going to leave my bags with concierge if I couldn't check in and explore the quarter. For some reason Louisiana was freaking cold as hell this whole trip. And of course I didn't pack a coat or anything for the temperature drop. Luck was on my side though. I got to the front desk and they told me my room was ready! Ahh the could tell i was super excited. I couldn't even express my excitement. How lucky was i this whole trip. Everything was working out my way. My room was beautiful. It was huge compared to all the rooms at any other place i had stayed at. Even the front desk girl who helped me bring my luggage up expressed how I had received one of the nicest rooms. The hotel kept it's old time charm with a bit of renovations to look new but still hold the feel of its old time history. You could literally feel the walls speaking their stories. Yea I'm a huge history buff and originals vampire dork. My windows looked down at the courtyard where the show was filmed. I literally had a perfect view of where everything was filmed. I could even see the upstairs railing where Marcel jumped down in the opening scene of the show. The bed was huge and so comfortable. I had the most amazing stay. The staff was so so nice and helpful any time I needed anything or asked for anything. The bathroom was updated and was clean and modern looking my shower and bathtub had jets so could just lie in there and relax if you wanted to. My whole stay in the quarter was great the only thing that wasn't cooperative this trip was mother nature. It was raining and cold the whole time. But staying at this hotel was perfect. So other than to go out and get food I just stayed in my room which was fine with me since I probably needed the much needed rest. I was able to just relax and get the mych needed r&r my body needed and I was in the best place ever with the perfect view of what I wanted to see. I highly highly recommend booking your room here even if you aren't a fan of the show. read more

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for our 20th anniversary. I state up front that the staff was very friendly and very helpful, we have no complaints with them. For the price of this upgraded room though, we were disappointed. Yes, we had a semi private balcony view, which we did enjoy. Unfortunately, we also had to walk up several flights of stairs to get to that room... It's not an easy task after walking around all day sightseeing. When booking this room, I saw no mention of this... or I wouldn't have purchased this room because it most definitely is not worth the extra money... at least not to us. There is a lack of electrical outlets (if you want to use the coffee maker, you have to move it to the only bedside table where outlets are located. However theres no room for it there if you have a cpap machine on the table), there is no mirror that can be used in the main bedroom if someone is occupying the bathroom, there is no mini fridge or microwave either...these are standard ammenities today in rooms. People often bring drinks or leftover food back to their accommodations, but you can't do that here. So, if you want a cold drink, you have to hike the steps down to the only ice maker in the courtyard and then back up again. We enjoyed our trip to New Orleans, but we will try another hotel next time. read more

I loved this hotel so much! the staff are wonderful- shout out to Perry, just the friendliest and most helpful front office guy ever- and the room was clean and charming. The AC is wonderful too, in the sweltering New Orleans summer! The hotel is very quaint, with lots of old-world charm and has a lovely interior courtyard with its own fountain and seating areas. It is a proper maze, as it sprawls back from its narrow frontage, but never feels cramped and this just adds to the charm of it all.Royal Street is in the heart of everything and handy for all NOLA has to offer, but this area is quiet and peaceful. I've done countless road trips throughout my life. I've stayed in many hotels and motels throughout my travels. None of my stays anywhere else in the U.S. have been as bad as my experience here. My initial draw was the price, it was definitely affordable and located right in the middle of the French quarter. My initial impression was that the place was old and cute. Since it was so old, I expected to see at least one roach during my stay. I honestly didn't see a single one throughout the week. I also checked for bed bugs and rodents. They passed the test here too. I only observed a single gnat and 1 mosquito over the course of the week. This observation is why I've awarded at least two stars. My room was rather big and appeared clean at first glance. There was a smell about the room. It smelled similar to a minty toilet spray. The air was stale with this smell. The bathroom sink and shower were itty bitty and the toilet was so close to the shower that your thigh touched the shower if you sat. The shower had lots of soap scum. Next to the toilet paper roll, the wall had a smear of blood on it. The bed area had some broken bricks on a wall, the floors creaked loudly and the bedspread had a dirty stain on it. The window was located facing into the center of the hotel so you heard drunk people stomping all night right next to you. The bedspread I called downstairs to address maybe 7 times between dinner and late night. They didn't come up until midnight. They didn't have a replacement bedspread, they could only offer us these wooly itchy thin blankets. Good lord was that nights sleep terrible! The cleaning staff behaved rather unprofessionally during the daytime. They'd throw supplies like clean towels or water bottles from the second story down to someone below and if it hit the floor they'd laugh loudly (which attracted my attention). They appeared to run it into a fresh room after getting it from the floor. I was extremely bothered by what I was witness to. The best part of the stay was the fact that the First 48 was on TV constantly and when I checked out. Checkout was a breeze and I was happy to leave. read more

Wonderful stay at the Hotel Royal. The staff was amazing and friendly. Shawn was especially awesome and had great recommendations for places to check out while visiting. We had our 1 year old daughter with us so we had a stroller. They do have a wheelchair lift but we opted to just carry the stroller up and down the few steps to get to the elevators to get to the rooms. The staff helped us a ton with that! read more

Do Not book here! There is no elevator. That was my fault for not reviewing very well. However, the stairs are dangerous for even sober people. The desk clerk was nice and offered to "help" with luggage, he let us walked up all the stairs with the luggage and then took us back down to the 2nd room.(booked 2 rooms). Do not, under any circumstance, let them assign you to room"8". This room would not get cool, maintenance said nothing they could do. it was stifling even in November. The other room, "16" was slanted. Our suitcase would roll across the floor. The door had at least a 1 inch gap from floor. You stepped down into room and up into bathroom. We checked out that night! You could park your car in a lot around the corner that was not secured for $55 each night but there is no valet service. If you want authentic , this may be for you. I wanted to love this place but that was not the case. Booked it knowing that it was a smaller room in an old building with no amenities. Walked in to the room on the first floor that smelled like mold. The room was cute but it lacked maintenance and care. Paint literally falling off the wall, stains throughout, and house keeping did a poor job throughout our stay. The shower was disgusting we actually purchased bleached and soaked it before use. We did get itchy while there and had some bites, not sure if it was bedbugs or something else. The front desk staff was friendly and checking in and out was fairly easy. MAJOR RODENT ISSUE If you read some of the other reviews, you'll see a few that lead me to believe this is a regular occurrence but only in certain rooms. The hotel staff was sweet and room is pretty decent. We stayed in the top room in the courtyard, on the right side. Sure, there are a lot of stairs and it's an old place, but it was sort of cute. The bed is barely comfortable and the shower makes you wish you brought sandals but otherwise, not bad. First night, nothing out of the ordinary. Second day, I see something scurry across the floor and notice it's a small mouse. Never seen that before, but no biggie. I told the hotel staff and she said, "it's normal. You're in the French Quarter and there is construction behind the hotel, so they've been coming here." Whatever; room is big enough for all of us. Next day I noticed there were small dark pellets about the size of sesame seeds in the computer chair where my backpack was. Yeah...then remembered I had a bag of trail mix in my backpack. Oh no, right?! Reach in and there are bite marks all through it and crumbs. So then I'm terrified there's mouse poop and maybe even a mouse in my bag as I slowly empty it. Fortunately, just poop and the mouse wasn't in there anymore but still gross. I decided to get rid of any possible food in the room. Saw the mouse a couple more times. We just kept modifying our behavior over the next 2 of our 5 day stay: wearing sandals in the room because when we didn't, we got mouse droppings stuck our feet; we didn't leave clothes out because the mice would poop on them (photo attached); we kept our suitcases off the ground and zipped up when not in use so we didn't bring one home with us. This was just who we had become now and he we had to live, folks. Third night, we were basically pros at living with our furry roommates. What else could go wrong? Bring it! Then I saw something new crawl across the floor that wasn't a mouse. Yeah...it was a pretty large roach. And at that point I was like, "yeah, I'm done!" I actually have a video of us fighting the roach but couldn't upload so there's just a photo of it. Went to the desk again and asked to be let out of the rest of our reservation. Unfortunately no nearby hotels available, so we had to rough it one more night. The next morning I went back down again. She was cool and understanding about said the manager would reach out. Nobody ever did, but we did get out of our contract for the last two nights. We moved over to the Sheraton Four Points (WHICH WAS THE SAME PRICE!) and it was seriously like a dream. Shower head was a little broken, carpet was worn. We just didn't care at all. It was such an upgrade to not have to wear sandals for fear of mouse turds. Four Points did say that they have heard a lot of negative things about Hotel Royal and that Hotel Royal often calls them begging for oversold bumped guests and they won't even refer people there. read more

My husband and I stayed here Oct 2-6. The Hotel was beautiful and loved the charm of staying in a hotel that was built in 1825. The room was clean with minimal decor yet stylish. The hotel staff was extremely nice, opening doors for you and holding our suitcases for us as we arrived a few hours before check in. They had plenty of recommendations for food and tours. Erick was very welcoming and Chris was nice to put in a ticket for our safe in the room that was not working. The balcony was a nice bonus and we had a peek of the cathedral at Jackson Square. On the second to the last day we were lucky enough to see filming for a Lil Wayne half time show (for the Saints) video from out balcony. LIstening to Lil Wayne in New Orleans is just as important as listening to Jazz so we were lucky enough to see that. Everything aside from the scheduled tours we took was in walking distance and it was nice to take in all the historical buildings that is the norm in the French Quarter. Definitely worth it to stay in the Quarter. read more

Stayed here on Sunday night. As soon as my taxi pulled up, a friendly bell staff opened the door and grabbed my bags (wish I remembered his name). The front desk agent Devin immediately greeted me and checked if my room was ready since I arrived there pretty early (noon). He kindly told me that my room wasn't ready and suggested to leave my bags while I walk around the neighborhood. The bell person offered to put my bags in my assigned room and Devin took my cell number so he can alert me when ready. An hour later and sure enough...I was promptly informed and my baggage were already stored in the room. Their hospitality made such a good 1st impression! 1) Hotel is located on Royal St. 1 block away from Bourbon. Excellent location! 2) Charming mid courtyard pathway with brick layered facade. 3) Room #17 was on the small side but spacious enough for 2 and located on the very top floor. This converted building does not have elevator so it might be tough for some to climb 4 flights of stairs to the room. 4) Modern and simple furnishings. Clean white walls. 5) Bed was very comfortable and linens were laundry fresh. 6) Modern marble bathroom and nice Delta mixed w/ Kohler fixtures. My room didn't come with a tub. 7) LCD TV, Ipod dock, iron / board, ceiling fan, quiet A/C, ceiling fan. 8) Free WiFi and fast connection speed considering I was on the top floor Check out was a breeze as well. Flight wasn't until 6pm so stored bags and again, Devin graciously offered to schedule a cab for around 3:30pm. Came back at 3:15 and arrangements were fulfilled as promised. Very impressed :) Although my room had no coffee maker nor fridge, but really had no use for either. There's a local coffee bar across the street and numerous restaurants just steps away from the hotel. The attentive service was one best experiences I've ever had. Will recommend this intimate boutique hotel to my friends who prefers to stay in the heart of Nawlins and expect great service! read more

Had a great stay here in the attic suite. It was such a beautiful view. This very nice historical hotel is located off of Royal Street in New Orleans, Louisiana's French quarter. It's within a close vicinity of everything you want to visit in New Orleans. All the nice boutiques and restaurants right there off of the street. Every now and then a mule and carriage tour will pass through. Due to the age of the building, there are no elevators so we had to climb several flights of stairs to get to our room. I definitely didn't need to do any additional leg workouts staying here. Warning: no microwave or mini fridge. That's OK since the food in New Orleans is so good you'll eat the whole thing with no leftovers. Staff have been very accommodating and friendly. The courtyard is very beautiful and a nice private haven for tucking away whenever you need to. I would highly recommend staying here! read more

At the very top of this hotel is room # 17. We don't believe in ghost, but this room is haunted. On separate times during the night of March 1st, 2024 our mattress was shaking for 15 seconds, while two deep males voices moaned for three or four minutes. I know that it was neither Gisele, or I shaking a leg or an arm. After the first time this happened, we made a point to keep still, and just let it happen. Not to say a word just to listen. Re-encountered this happening three more times during the night. New Orleans has only had four earthquakes since 1950. This wasn't fracking or earthquake. It was a shake of just the mattress. In the morning I shook the headboard, and it had a creaking clinking sound against the wall, and I shook the boxspring, and it also had a creaking, clicking sound. When our mattress was moving, there was no creaking or clicking nothing else in the room not a lampshade or piece of furniture was moving. We live in LA and we know what an earthquake is. This was not that. It was a gentle moving in the direction of head to toe for 15 seconds or so at several points during the night. it didn't feel like a violent or mean presence. It was just a presence looking to be felt by us. Gisele didn't want to stay another night, but I was OK with it. I didn't feel threatened by it. So we chose to move onto another place. I suggest you try room 17. Hopefully it'll be as interesting for you. . ~ oh and take a look out the window in the hallway before entering room 17. The location is good if you are planning to do sutff in french quarter. The room size is a bit small, but doable. No chest/dresser, but has a tiny wall closet with 4-5 hangers. Tiny bathroom, there is no area to put your make-up stuffs if you are a girl. The wall is very thin-- you could hear people using stairs/ tv sound or people talking from other rooms. No elevators, but our room was on second floor so it was okay. We stayed in a room with courtyard view. The french doors look nice, but very drafty. The receptionists are not really welcoming, but Eric is SUPER nice. He always asked if we needed help with finding restaurants/ cafe, or with our stay. Only reason I'm giving 3 stars-- the bathroom is DISGUSTING. The shower is super moldy. I was disgusted by the showerheads. I know it is an old building with a charm, but man you gotta keep the place nice and clean. Otherwise, it is not different than just old shi*hole in a guetto. read more

I love staying in old places that have character. And I understand that you make allowances for an older place that you would not have to make in a newer hotel. But, that being said, our stay here was a disappointment. Definitely not a four star hotel - I would say three stars, at best. There were things I loved: the bellman who helped us every day was awesome. There was a bathroom, coffee, and water next to the lobby. Even though we had to climb 5 flights of stairs to our room, the room was big and roomy, with a great view of the city from the high windows. Location was wonderfully convenient. But, they really missed out on a lot of basic details. We didn't have a chest of drawers to unpack our clothes into for the week we were there. The only mirror was in the bathroom. The glass shower doors were permanently stuck in one position, with room to reach your hand in the front to adjust the water, and barely room enough to slide your body in at the back section. So weird. Once our bathmat was removed, we never got another one. My friend's towels had grease on them. The first day we got back to our room at 3 pm, and it still had not been made up. If Hotel Royal hired a more dedicated, reliable cleaning staff, and fixed up some of these basic problems in the room, they would definitely be worth another stay. read more

Run away - do not consider this dump. We were placed in a room that was literally 8' x 15' in size. The bed is accessed from only one side due to room size and there is not one chair, desk or drawer. Save money and rent an RV as it will be larger than the shoe box rooms here. We do have a window and it is eye level with the smoking area - awesome!! I would not pay $40 for this room - yet I was charged $660 for two nights. We will never consider this place in the future and Yelp is totally misleading. On line pictures must be a suite as our room would make rooms in Europe look huge. One positive - room was clean. read more

This place had alot of character and charm. Loved the fact that their fountain was in the show The Original's, that was cool. Our bed was not leveled and our pillow was so firm. Our room was clean and the bathrooms were nice. Wish they had a ceiling fan to help with the outside noise and the people above us. We could here EVERY STEP they made. So, sleep was hard. First of all I'd like to say that I would definitely stay here again. The staff was nice, we got free coffee, tea, and cold water all day long. Clean place. Nice courtyard. The location is close to everything. But... I think depending on where your room is located it will determine how your experience will be. Our friends stayed on the first floor which was recently renovated. They weren't able to sleep at night because of the street noise. Our room was up 4 flights (no elevator) . The TV was located in a weird spot (against the wall near the corner) and it was not adjustable. There is no mirror in the room other than the bathroom. No fan in the bathroom either. It was very dark so putting on makeup was difficult. The carpet was old too. There was this weird hall or whatever, leading to a window. Maybe they should have added a small desk or dresser there? I dunno, seemed like waste of space. The water pressure was non existent. However the bed was clean and we always got fresh towels. I say give it a try, you might get one of the newer rooms. Just remember to ask not to have one located by the streets. read more

We really lucked out staying here. We hadn't been to NOLA since pre-K, so were unfamiliar with the great areas to stay. Well, this was one if them. On the quieter end of the Quarter but still easy walking distance to everything, and in fact, it turns out that Royal St is the best street to hang out on too, what with the great art shops, the restaurants and bars. I think we wore a groove in the sidewalk walking up and back down that avenue. Plus we easily walked back here from Frenchmans St, detouring thru the divey cool R Bar and the drag queen show at the Golden Lantern. Hotel Royal is one of the historic boutique hotels in the Quarter and as such had both good and not so good things about it. The goods being the beauty and charm of the hotel. The rooms were clean and spacious and the bed was chock full of pillows and fairly comfy. There's a sweet, NOLA typical courtyard and the staff were super courteous and friendly (waves at Donald). The not so goods. Water pressure was not so great and it took awhile to get hot water to our shower. That was probably because we were on the top floor and yes, that was a 6 flight hike up, through quaintly low ceilinged stairways and halls just made for banging an Amazons head. The top hall made me feel a little like Alice in Wonderland and the hall was shrinking, or I was GROOOOWWWING. Kinda trippy. Also, while there was very little street noise, the doors do slam loudly....esp when your drunk neighbors get home at 3 a.m. Oh, and there's no curtains on the windows, just blinds so that in combo with the recent time change had us up and ready to go by 7:30 every morning....even when we went to bed at 2:00. That could be a plus or a negative depending on how you look at it. For us it just meant more time for eating and having bloody marys. This will not be our last trip to NOLA by any means, and the Hotel Royal will be the first place we look for vacancies. We might just give our feet and knees (and noggins!) a break and request first floor! read more

We had room 16R on floor 3 from Wednesday night to Saturday morning. The flight of stairs was not too bad. My complaint had to do with the hallway and room. I was woken up around 7am every morning with our leaking air vent dropping water on my face. We would wake up with a smoker's cough and our throat closing due to the mold in our room and the hallway leading to our room. In the mornings it smells like strong cat urine but then the smells get clearer and turns to a mixture of wet carpet and wet dog smell. My nightstand lamp did not turn on at all throughout my stay and had water marks from the leaking air vent. This was by far the worst hotel room I have ever had. I have been back home for two days with this terrible cough and had to spend a few bucks to go to the doctors. I recommend spending a few more bucks and staying elsewhere. read more

Our stay was overall very pleasant. The doorman and front desk was extremely helpful in suggesting things to do and places to eat, since we were visiting out of town. Our room was on the 3rd floor, and the stairs were steep so be mindful if you are staying there, on anything above the first floor, it's going to be a hike. Our room was very nice, clean, and the dimming lights were a great touch! Something to note: there isn't a microwave (or there didn't appear to be) anywhere within the vicinity of the hotel. The only true complaint was the iHome speaker did not work, and we brought our own but we had some issues with it connecting to the hotel WiFi. After staying here for 5 days, I was torn on this rating. The location is five stars in the French Quarter. Just a quick walk to Bourbon Street and so many other restaurant and shops. Staff at the front desk was friendly, but I have to give a shout out Eric. He gladly held our bags before check-in, offered us water every time we walked through the the lobby and consistently checked on us. Ok, the room. Well I liked the decor: modern mix with historical, little double doors for the bathroom and exposed brick wall behind the bed. However, it was a little small and lacked essentials. The bathroom was very updated, I loved the two shower heads. However, there was no counter space, no hooks for towels or clothes and it was just overall tight. There was no where in the room for our bags besides the floor. The little shelves by each side of the bed, were barely attached to the brick I didn't even want to put a lot on them. We also had a little eight legged guest in our room that was reported to the front desk and said our room would be thoroughly cleaned and it was not (a towel was still laying on the floor, carpet not vacuumed) so we asked for it to be cleaned again. And I understand being in the south and a historical building it happens, but he came back the next day and it was a little hard to sleep wondering if he wanted to came back with us or was in my clothes. The hotel is was noisy as well. We heard guests at all hours, at times no fault of their own the sound just carries in an old building. I did hear house keeping every morning too. I understand this is just one room and they are all different and range in size. If you want location this, is your place. read more

We splurged for a room with a balcony, and were a little disappointed when we arrived to find that you access the balcony through a window (only a big deal because to keep bugs out you had to close the window behind you but it was very hard to open from outside). That said, we left the window open while we were on the balcony one night for an hour and were eaten alive by bugs while we slept. There was heavy rain while we were there, and we went back to our room to find that water was coming into the room. Not a ton, but enough to get anything between the window and the bed wet. Lucky for us, we didn't have anything on the floor. Oh, and we took a cab to the hotel once we got drenched in the rain, thinking we could go enjoy our balcony. Nope. There was water leaking through the ceiling so you couldn't be on the balcony without getting soaked. So much for that! Stay here for location, but don't splurge on a balcony room. Definitely not worth it. read more

We paid a FORTUNE to stay at this hotel (and we aren't new to this, we've been to NOLA dozens of times). The first 2 days there was no air conditioning in our room but the hotel was sold out so they wouldn't move us. Finally they had someone come to add freon. Not a great start but here's the thing - while staying there (more than a month ago) I had my son fedex me something I had forgotten. The Fedex record shows that arrived the next day and I asked again and again for it at the front desk but they could never find it. The day after we left I called again and low and behold! It was right there at the desk the whole time. I was told they would send it to me that very day. But, weirdly, it didn't show up. So I called again. Same story. TODAY - more than month later and 7 phone calls and promises their "manager" calls me and asks for my credit card number - they won't send it back unless I pay for it! Despite the fact that it is entirely their fault. Now I'm reading about the issues that other recent travelers have had and I'm going to check my bill and credit card statements again. This feels like a big shakedown scam. Right answer for anyone running a hotel? "OMG I'm SO SORRY. I have your address right here and will get it in the mail today." Ridiculous. read more

Ok we loved the decor, the staff was awesome & the historical building is legit. However, this building is old (awesome) but you can hear every door close on your floor & every step in the hall. They were kind enough to give us a 3rd floor room with balcony! Gorgeous! However the heat didn't work....lame We moved next door, we were thrilled with the new room until it was time to take our bath in the gorgeous marble jet tub....lukewarm water. So there it is....I love the location so we'll prolly stay again but we will bring our own space heater or warm water depending on what room we get lol read more

My husband and I had a 5 night stay here for our first anniversary. Due to the length of our stay, we booked a junior suite. We arrived Sunday afternoon and were given suite R39. It was on the fourth floor, but luckily Eric was there to willingly lug our bags up there. We were disappointed the room did not have a balcony as we had requested and Brian at the front desk was extremely helpful in finding us one to switch into on Tuesday. In the meantime, we got 2 days to enjoy the whirlpool tub and remote location in R39 (only one other room on the floor). From conversations with staff, I gathered that R39 was the smallest of the junior suites and in my opinion, was quite large. Huge closet, large bathroom, and a weird little hallway thing. On Tuesday, we were switched into R12 on the third floor and were extremely pleased. The room the bed was in was quite small, but it was fine. That opened up into a sitting room with a fireplace, chest of drawers, desk and 2 chaise lounges as well as the doors to the shared balcony. The balcony was furnished with a small table and 2 chairs. I might suggest they put another set out there in case you are next to people who don't play well with others. Both of the rooms were equipped with hair dryers, safes and irons. A coffee maker would have been nice. I can't comment on the breakfast. If you are in NOLA, you shouldn't be having hotel breakfast anyway, go to Clover Grill around the corner, Verti Mart, or Cake Cafe. We were lucky and able to get away with street parking all week. Kendall and Eric were awesome at helping with our luggage and the room change. We had two large bags and a heavy cooler full of wine we would not have been able to take up on our own. Ok, I suppose we could have, but no thanks. These guys work hard so make sure to take care of them! We are quite familiar with the city so we didn't need reservations or directions or anything, but front desk staff were mostly friendly as we walked in and out. Overall, I would absolutely stay again. I suggest booking a junior suite for a longer stay, or if you are worried about getting a room that is too small, and realize that you will be walking up a lot of stairs. read more

This is NOT where the originals was filmed. It was only used for a few minutes in the first episode. The staff was friendly however, they were all new and knew nothing about the originals show - which is a selling point for this $100 a night hotel! Our shower was missing a shower pane, under the bed looked like it wasn't swept in 2 years. No elevator but you may get a room on the 4th floor. The parking lot gets padlocked by 9pm and you have to ask if you want to move your car after that. Could not check in until 30 minutes before set time. Were told to be quiet at 9pm while playing cards and quietly listening to music. The square footage has to be less than 200, you can't fit more than 2 people in the room - which is why you are limited to 2 anyways. Overall - pick somewhere else. read more

Built in 1827...enough said about the property. Right in the heart of the district and parallel to Bourbon Street. If you need a place to lay your head after partying in the French Quarters at a descent rate, this place was okay. No elevators for luggage, so pack light. Room was tiny. Air conditioner worked great! Nice old fashioned, almost haunted looking, New Orleans feel. Staff was awesome! Eric is the host with the most! He gave us great recommendations for where to eat, where to go...can say enough about this young man. read more

Hotel Royal is amazing! We loved our stay, our room was clean and cozy and the staff was great! Eric, one of the concierge, was very helpful and made us feel like we were the only guests in the place because he was so attentive! But the best part of Hotel Royal is definitely the location! From the hotel entrance you are only 1 block from Lafitte's on Bourbon Street and can easily get to the rest of the bars/restaurants from there. However, any direction you go you will find yourself surrounded by art galleries, boutiques, shops and street performers. The hotel is situated right in the heart of the action of New Orleans. As some other reviewers have mentioned, the rooms are a little small. But you're in the French Quarter... In New Orleans... A block from Bourbon Street. What are you doing in your hotel room? Overall, we would highly recommend staying at Hotel Royal during your visit to NOLA. We will definitely be back! read more
