I kind of feel bad because the staff is so kind, but the first impression was just too absurd. By the end of the trip, I just got used to everything. The moment we checked in, the front desk lady scolded her coworker in front of us which I'm surprised that the scene couldn't wait until the customers were gone. The room itself is much tinier than the pictures with barely any sink space. That part I don't mind. What I do mind are the following atrocities that I've never experienced in any other hotel: - sink had a variety of hairs that were sitting there before I could even use it. -complimentary water bottle was already opened and half drunken out of -after washing my hands, I used the hand towel in which when I pulled away, my entire hand was engulfed by a long strand of blonde hair like an octopus. (I have black hair while my fiancés hair is brown) -the light on my side of the bed did not work Now for the goodies: Housekeeping was MUCH better afterwards. Staff seemed more cheerful as well. The lobby was also very beautiful and welcoming. I also cannot believe how I perfect the location is because it's walking distance to all the shops and restaurants. Very happy tourists with that aspect. However, I think I'm going to try other hotels the next time I'm in the area. The quality of the room did not live up to the price we paid for.

The most attentive concierge we've ever encountered. What a pleasure to have stayed at the St Francis and we plan to come back. Much gratitude to all! Also, make sure to have a French Connection at the Secreto Bar.

I'm a hotel chain kind of guy. I like collecting my points and earning my status, but my preferred chain didn't exist in Santa Fe and my second choice was way over priced so I booked a room here not knowing at all what to expect. Everyone was so friendly and helpful from the front desk to the severs at the two restaurants to the valet guy who sometimes was also the front desk guy. Everyone wore many hats here I feel. I want to shout out the janitor who really should be employee of the month. Two times the janitor took on other duties as assigned when he could have just kept walking. First I was wanting coffee from the free lobby station, but it had run out. I was queuing at the front desk when the janitor walked by and asked if I needed something - he ended up going to get the coffee refilled for me. Secondly on my way out he was cleaning the floor but saw me waiting at the empty front desk where there was no staff. He asked what I needed and went and found the valet for me. Kudos to him! I hope someone from St Francis sees this review! Anyways, we check in and valet our car (included in price) with no issues. This is a three story hotel and we are on level two. I liked that a staircase serviced all levels of the hotel so you could skip the lift unless you had your bags with you. We got an end of the hall room which was very spacious. There were KCups in the room and water as well. Unlike in the hotels I stay where I have status, this hotel treated me better. They didn't even ask if I wanted housekeeping - I got it daily. And each day the water bottles were replaced for free. It is nice to not be nickel and dimed on these small things. The front of the hotel has a nice big porch which services their two restaurants. It's a great place for an afternoon drink or to sit with morning coffee. The hotel is in a great location and I would definitely stay here if I was in Santa Fe again. We left the hotel and returned a few times and valet was always quick with the car.

This is an ideal hotel for this area. The lobby is lovely in the morning for a coffee/tea with a quiet, monastic feeling. The room was very comfortable with clean sheets in a new feeling room, with historic accents. This is much preferred over the other hotels in the area that really need renovation and over-charge for heavily worn rooms- which they can because they rely on the historic element. I prefer this place because you get the clean and new with the historic. I maybe just wish the bathrooms matched the bedroom a bit room as far as level of new. Hotel is ideally located by the plaza, all the shopping, and delicious food. If you're interested in Le Fonda for the history, just stay here and eat/bar/shop there. The rooms here are more affordable and very clean. They have included valet and a bar that doesn't seem to open on time. I wouldn't recommend the bar at high times because it's very Smokey and loud. Maybe go right when they open and it's quiet.

Really enjoyed my stay here. All of the employees were incredibly kind and helpful. Hot coffee was provided every morning which tasted great. We did check in during Last Friday which was a nightmare due to all the traffic downtown and the valet process (which is the only parking option) took ~40 minutes to get into the hotel. Hotel definitely should've planned for this and had a second or third valet working to help. We didn't have any other problems with the valet process for the rest of the weekend though. Hotel was also very clean with good dining and drink options.

Portable AC in a supposed "fancy resort" hotel??

Very charming and that's about it. I am in a room with a portable AC that isn't worth crap and a fan that is so loud I can't sleep Really?!?!?! I don't even get this bad service at a Holiday Inn or motel 6. Then let's talk about the bathroom. The sink is in the bedroom and the bathtub and toilet in a separate room. Floors are totally squeaky. No desk at all. This is embarrassing for the price paid. Something needs to change. I stayed here for work. I'll never stay there again. Not even for vacation.

We stayed here for 4 nights and absolutely loved it. If you're looking for a place with some interesting history and a cool aesthetic this is the place for you! We didn't want the traditional "southwest" looking hotel so we were excited to find this gem that is an integral part of Santa Fe history but really different from others in the area. The rooms aren't huge but they're nice. The bed is extremely comfortable and the shower has good water pressure and the room was clean. The service around the hotel was spectacular. They texted me before arrival and I was able to text whenever I needed anything! Employees brought an iron and mini-fridge flat at no additional cost and were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay.

First, this hotel has a very small parking lot. We ended up paying to park in the city lot across the street and we moved the car early the next morning to avoid paying more or getting a ticket. They did reimburse us but it was a hassle. No coffee pot in the room but they set out a coffee and tea station by the front desk in the morning. The rooms we got were small. One had a step up into the bathroom, but it had a tub. The room with just a shower was a little more renovated but the shower stall is very small (even for a medium sized woman). They also didn't look like the rooms on the website, and we both had a view of other rooms (not all had pulled their curtains!) and the AC vents. But we weren't in the rooms much. Television seemed to have only the in-hotel channel. Again, wasn't in the room much but it would have been nice. Bed was one of the best hotel beds I've ever encountered. Plenty of (but not too many) comfy pillows and clean linens. Overall, it's charming but I'm not one for old hotels that have been turned into renovated hotels.

Red flight from the Gruet tasting room next door, but enjoyed in the St. Francis lobby

When we drove in, the parking lot was just about full and the space that was available was too small for my truck. The security guard who I wish I could remember his name as he was such a gem, let me know that he will park my truck for me. He had a fabulous Texan accent and he was just the nicest man. He said go on inside and check in and when you come back out, I will park your truck for you. The woman who greeted me inside was so lovely. She said I am so glad you are here! You are our last guest to arrive and I will get you all checked in. It felt like we were in a different time almost, it was so cozy and quaint. Our hotel room itself was perfect. We had two beds and they were so comfortable and the linens were fabulous. The wall hangings and paintings were gorgeous. The bathroom was adorable and had pretty New Mexican tile. Even the carpets and rugs were beautiful. They do have a restaurant and room service. They have a complementary breakfast cooked to order which is something I have never seen before. Unfortunately we were so tired the next day we missed the breakfast, but we will definitely book another stay in this hotel. The reception area is beautiful and has lovely couches and sitting areas. The paperwork in the rooms is extremely thorough and will tell you everything you need to know, from room service to if you have difficulty parking your car to nearby restaurants and sightseeing. I did not read all of the paperwork when I first got to the hotel and in the morning I called for coffee to be delivered to my room. I later saw that coffee is actually set out for guests in the reception area so the woman who brought me the coffee really only did it out of kindness. I definitely felt like this hotel gives five star service.

And they didn't hv any 2 bed rooms available. So I found this place And in that week between Christmas and New Year's we still wanted to catch the Christmas lights and farolitos And if you too are about location, location, location This was perfect If you've ever had to drive to Santa Fe, you know that parking can be a bear -- and it was, with a lot of the main streets blocked off in anticipation of NYE celebrations. The hotel is actually quite a large, sprawling complex, much deeper that what might be assumed when pulling in. We got there mid-afternoon so could park rt in front of our first floor room. I hadn't even thought about that but my creaky knees were happy and quite relieved to only hv to haul my wee bag up 7 steps or so. Check in was easy, if a bit crowded, as a lot of regulars like to show up a bit early too. The doorman was a very polite young man and everyone made us feel welcome. The older gentleman at the counter was a font of information And made sure we knew abt the Happy Hour Short and sweet Whatever you do: try the biscochitos! (The official NM state cookie, fyi - for a reason - when done right, and these definitely are!) Everything was very clean Even with all the Christmas decorations and greenery out There's an excellent restaurant on site And when they say there's "a bit of a kick", and shd you be a wuss like me, order the spicy on the side. Staff was very considerate abt this. And breakfast is pretty good too! And it was so easy to walk to everything, stuff I usually don't get to see bc I'm usually on the other side of town. All in all, a lovely stay

The valets offered a warm welcome that set the tone for our entire stay and the front desk check in was friendly and efficient. In fact, every single staff member we came into contact with was an absolute delight. From the manager who we encountered each afternoon and always took the time to engage with us, to the awesome lady with the funky makeup who served the complimentary afternoon drinks. Everyone we came into contact with was lovely, even the lady bussing tables was a delight. Our room on the 2nd floor was ok, it was very long and narrow and despite having plenty of sq ft, the layout made it feel small. The bathroom was decent and the linens, towels and amenities were a good quality. Each day at 5.30pm the hotel offers complimentary drinks and snacks. We checked it out once; the cocktails, although served with a big smile, were cheap and sugary (as expected). The food (pasta and baked potatoes with fixings, hot dogs and popcorn), wasn't to our taste but many of the guests with children appeared to be making a full dinner out of them, so that is definitely a great feature for families on a budget. The location is really good, no more than a 7 min stroll from everything in the historic center of Santa Fe. I would recommend this hotel for family road trips and business travelers on a tight budget. The staff make this hotel a place you should consider if you're ever coming to Santa Fe.

But where? Reviewers touted the Inn Of The Turquoise Bear.....and they were right. Pros: - Location: Central. Just south of the downtown area and a 15 minute walk to Canyon Road. - Exterior: A sprawling property in a residential neighborhood. Several smaller buildings seem to have been added over the (many) years to the main building seen on most photos of the property. - Interior: Like going back 100 years. Things were fixed, of course...especially in public spaces...but you might feel as if you're in a living museum. - Our Room (Witter Byner): Large and rambling. More than enough room for 2 people plus a balcony overlooking the front of the property. Very comfortable. I could live there for a month if we didn't mind going up and down 15 stairs to the main floor. One interesting aspect: The bathroom. It was very nice and fully equipped, but separate from our room and down 5 stairs. That wasn't a problem during the day, but a few nights were an adventure - Breakfast: Unreal. Everything was homemade with great taste. The buffet portion had sliced fruit, granola, juices, pastries and yogurt. The hosts and kitchen staff had 3-5 entrees available each day. I rarely tried those since I filled up on the buffet, but my wife ate one every day and only had good things to say. Service at the community table was gracious and unhurried with lots of interesting conversation. - Amenities: A 1-2 hour Happy Hour every day starting at 430 or 5 PM. Fresh cookies, fruit, tea and jug water were available all day (coffee from 630-10 AM). Umbrellas. Plenty of smiles. - Hosts: Everyone was very friendly, helpful, informative and even charming. Special thanks to Aileen (sp?). - Housekeeping: Effective, efficient and unobtrusive. - Parking: Sufficient. The large courtyard in front of the of the property provided enough room for cars in the 11 room B&B. - Price and Value: Reasonable. It's not cheap, but as in most cases you get what you pay for. We'd heartily recommend the Inn Of The Turquoise Bear, but make reservations well in advance.

We barely used much of the tissues either. But we are grateful to have a room ready around noon. This is a hotel accommodating folks from different time zones. Their breakfast ends at 10am while it is 9am PST. Restaurant here was a bit frustrating for us (ie Lunch hour ends at 2pm but no lunch was served at 1:05pm). Other than some minor issues, we were happy here overall.

This used to be our go-to hotel whenever we visited Santa Fe. After 15+ years of family trips and…read morestays here, we'll unfortunately be looking elsewhere. The biggest issue is security. During our most recent stay, our vehicle was one of at least three that were broken into with many very large/heavy items stolen overnight while parked in the hotel's paid parking lot. The lack of security measures, whether cameras, patrols, or staff presence, was disappointing and left us feeling unsupported after the incident. What was even more frustrating was management's response. When the answer to multiple vehicle break-ins is as we were told by the GM - there's nothing we can do and that cameras don't deter theft or help identify thieves - it's time for us to stay somewhere else. We understand that crime can happen anywhere, but guests paying for parking should reasonably expect the property to take security seriously and make an effort to protect them. What makes this especially difficult is that we've always loved this property. The hotel has a historic charm, a great location that makes it easy to explore Santa Fe on foot, and while the rooms aren't luxury accommodations, they always felt comfortable and familiar - like a home away from home. Through the years, the staff has consistently been friendly and welcoming. That's what makes this review so disappointing to write. What was once a 5-star experience for our family has dropped to about a 3-star experience because we no longer feel confident that our vehicle and belongings are safe while staying here.
