This place made me ask: what is a review supposed to review? Because the Tramonto d'Oro reviews all rave about the location, and in fact the views could not have been better. The food at the restaurant was surprisingly excellent. And the price was fair. But when I see a five-star review of a hotel, I interpret that as a reflection on the room above all. We booked because I expected a good-to-great room along with a lovely view, and I'm sorry to say it was possibly the worst room I have ever stayed in in my life, and I've stayed at motels off interstates with blinking "acancy" signs. The shower was literally smaller than showers I've used on sailboats, and not huge sailboats. The furniture was the cheapest laminate, with the aged laminate peeling off all over (it was taped down in one place), and red trim that looked like it was painted and glued-on after the fact; I kept thinking that it's what I usually see on the side of the road to be scavenged, and nobody takes it even for free. There were five things hanging on the wall, and one was a (plain, peeling laminate) mirror, and one was a TV. The other three were the cheapest generic prints chosen with zero concern for decorating--again, if they were offered for nothing at a garage sale you wouldn't take them. I mean, it was bad. I don't like posting critical reviews but this place is not right for everyone. If your priority is looking outside the room, and you don't much care what's in it, this might be a fit. If your priority is the appearance of the room itself, and you don't mind going outside to look at the ocean, this is not where you want to be. read more
