I was overall very happy with my stay here of 3 nights! Pleasantly surprised to have Nespresso machine in my room and in the lobby. They gave complimentary slippers & umbrellas too for the stay. My room was simple, modern and up to date, cozy and everything worked well. Bed was comfy with a good amount of pillows. I went for private bathroom & it was still affordable, very happy with this hotel, even the location was perfect...just far away enough from the ghetto areas but close to everything like transportation wise. YWCA Hotel, Vancouver, BC. June, 2025. Our Alaskan cruise was returning early on a Sunday, but our return flight to the US wasn't until Monday night at 11 pm -- so my husband and I needed a place to stay in Vancouver for one night. Hotels in Vancouver are crazy expensive. Even hotels with low quality ratings and those far from downtown had nightly rates far in excess of US$200, plus taxes. We found that the YWCA Hotel, about a mile from the cruise terminal, had availability for the night that we needed. They have 220 rooms on 12 floors. We booked a private double room with a SHARED BATHROOM. The room with shower and toilet was shared with one other room. There was a good mechanism to ensure that the locks to the two rooms locked while the bathroom was in use. We paid the equivalent of US$216 and some change for the room, after taxes. There was much to like about the hotel. *the hotel is a social enterprise wherein all proceeds go directly to support social services such as housing, a community kitchen, and youth programs. *There are numerous communal areas that we didn't use, including guest kitchens, lounge areas, a fitness zone, laundry, and a rooftop patio. *it has accessibility features including a ramp into the front lobby and elevators. *Free Nespresso coffee and tea bags are available in the lobby during certain hours. *there is complimentary luggage storage before/after guests' stays. *the hotel is in a safe and walkable neighborhood, close to the BC Place Stadium and shopping/restaurants. *the hotel has security measures in place, including the need to use a keycard for elevator use and front door access at night. *limited parking is available for a fee; public transportation is also nearby. *check-in was easy, and we were allowed to access our room before the check-in time. We also were allowed to stay one hour beyond the check-out time. *staff were friendly. *our room was basic and clean, and met all of our needs. It had a double bed with firm mattress, air conditioning, vanity with sink, hair dryer, mini-fridge, LCD TV, work desk, and free WiFI. There were many windows so it was light and bright. However, *as mentioned, Vancouver is a very expensive city for hotels. At the price point that we paid, we would have gotten a much nicer room in other international cities -- most likely with private bath and potentially with breakfast (which was not provided by the YMCA). *Sharing of the bathroom was okay, but not ideal. We shared with two noisy women who left some of their personal belongings (clothes) in the shared bathroom. (The lock mechanisms did work well). Finally, a few practical notes. *you can reserve your room directly on the hotel's website, which offers discounts for seniors (60+) or Y members. *men are welcome to stay. *you do not need to be a member of the YWCA or YMCA to stay. *no dorm-style rooms are available. *no pets are allowed. read more

It's important to share this because not many reviews mentioned: - shared bathrooms with room next door to you. Only one person from either room can use it at a time. Bathroom has two doors, one from each guest. So be careful to lock it or someone can WALK IN on you showering or using the toilet. There is a crack that air can go through so if it stinks in the bathroom then the smell will go into your bedroom - bedrooms are small. Double bed feels tight for two people -hallway smelled like weed. I know This can't be helped by the staff because you can't control what guests do - PARKING: oh my goddddddddd, unfortunately this gave me so much stress I said to myself I'll never stay at any downtown during travel ever again if I can avoid it. First I don't feel I was given adequate instructions where to park to check in. Went behind the building, in alleyway, tons of no parking signs everywhere, stopped temporarily to run in to check in. YWCA has their own lot but very few spots so they were all out by the time I arrived at 9pm and told to try elsewhere. It was dark and raining in an unfamiliar town and I had so much anxiety finding a parking lot. I tried Sandman's parking lot next door and it's pay per hour. So if I pay for overnight and leave by 9am, it's around... $60! Omg. Let's check elsewhere. Drove to three different parking lots after recommended by YWCA and it was a terrible experience at each. One had broken car windows, had really bad reviews about break ins. At the Second lot, while I was checking the pay machine, a robbery was happening and a business store person was chasing an unhoused person and they got into a fight and I couldn't run away fast enough back to the car and drive the hell out of there. I don't need this. Im tired I just want to go to the hotel and relax but I can't even find a space to park the car! If you want convenience and relaxation, rather pay more for somewhere with better amenities you're looking for Otherwise this could be a good spot for people on a budget and want to be downtown. Pros: The front desk people were consistently friendly and helpful! I arrived very early in the morning hoping for an early check in and it wasn't available. However, they gave me a suggested time to return (hours before check in) and it was ready! They do baggage drop off which was helpful. The housekeeping did a great job. It felt very safe because you need a key card just to enter the building after 9pm. They have basic toiletries. Cons: The walls are thin. The AC is loud and is only on eco mode instead of running constantly. They don't provide tissue boxes. The rooms are clean but could use a deep clean. None of these were big issues (remember, you're doing business with a non-profit trying to help people, not a for-profit business looking to charge an arm and a leg). Tip: A lot of these reviews mention being upset about the shared bathrooms. The website is very clear about the bathroom situation (shared, semi-private, and private) and they are clearly marked in the title of your purchase. Your boy scrambled a bit last minute planning his trip to check out the Planted Expo last weekend. With most spots booked up, they had a single + shared hallway bathroom available. And you know what, I thought, "I never tried a Y_CA accommodation before so let's do it!" Despite some inconsistent info between here and the website, overall the building was in quite decent shape; kind of a modern clean version of the 1990's. I definitely like more communal facilities to live/explore a bit more economical & community-like. Bathroom-to-room ratio for the shared felt adequate. The room was pleasantly simple and nice. Plenty of shared kitchen & dining space top-down for all the eats and hanging out. Staff was pleasant & cordial. Minor feedback: Entering the buzz in door late at night for check in was a tad clumsy but a gentleman came over to assist right away. 1 kitchen room upstairs seems retired and the fitness room felt a bit sad. After staying one night here, I would describe the experience as cluttered and uncomfortable. It was fine for a quick overnight stay, but I can't imagine staying longer than a couple of nights. I should have paid closer attention when booking, but sharing a bathroom with strangers felt awkward and unsanitary. On top of that, the front desk staff were oddly persistent about me doing laundry, even going so far as to ask if I knew how--which came across as uncomfortable and frankly insulting. I highly recommend this hotel. Although it's a 2star hotel, the ratings were on par with a 4 star, and being the cheapest option when I traveled, I thought I'd give it a chance. The room was quaint and perfect. If you are a person who likes tons of space in a hotel room, this is not the place for you. But if you are like the rest of us who only sleep our rooms, read on. The room has everything I needed: bed, shower, vanity, desk, tv, mini fridge, and microwave. Also, it had hardwood floors, which I like better. I was same to adjust the heat and the window was a nice size. Parking was $25/night? But warning!!!! There are only a few stalls. Even though check-in is at 4pm, i arrived at 3pm and my room was ready . Although check out was at 11am, they agreed to hold my car for another hour. My cousin and I stayed one night at the hotel before we left on our Alaskan cruise. We essentially had one afternoon and one morning to explore Vancouver before our cruise. This hotel was perfectly located to enable us to see a lot in a short period of time. We stayed in a twin-bed room with a shared bathroom down the hall. Note that the shared bathroom is a single toilet, but we only had to wait once to use it on a weekday. Our room was immaculate as was all the common areas, and the staff was so friendly and helpful. Bonus: They kept our luggage for free after checkout while we spent the morning before our cruise visiting Chinatown and Gas Town and eating an amazing breakfast at Jam Cafe (recommended by the hotel staff). For the value and location (which was very safe), I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Plus, your money goes to a great cause. You can't beat that. read more

I was iffy about booking this place but glad i did. The location is very central and in downtown. Close to alot of eateries. It's safe to walk at night in this area. The hotel itself looks good. Check in was so smooth. The room i had was a Double Bed shared bath. The room itself looked exactly in the pictures which was shocking cause usually rooms do not look like the pictures so thats a bonus. The room itself is spacious and has plenty of space for 1-2 people. I appreciate that. The shared bathroom depends on the times you need to use. I saw that early mornings 7am -9am there was heavy use but when i needed to use from 10am-2pm it was empty. from 11pm to onwards there could be a wait as everyone is going out or going to sleep. The beds here was very COMFY!!!! Met some amazing people on this trip and liked their shared lounge. There is also a roof top patio which had great views and something i would not this this YWCA Hotel had!!! Overall i would def book here again. I stayed at the YWCA during my recent trip to Vancouver, BC. The front desk workers here are nice and helpful with any questions we had. The location is pretty good. It's a couple blocks away from Chinatown, the Vancouver library and Robson street where all the high end shopping stores like Burberry and Michael Kors is at. It is a little far from the airport though. You are looking at a $25 fee for taxi from here to the airport. The hotel itself is adjacent to a little coffee shop that offers coffee and pastries. One of the nice things that I liked about this hotel is in order to go up the elevator to the rooms, guests have to swipe their room key. This made feel safe because it ensures only hotel guests can go up the hotel. The overall hotel reminds of a dorm. We were in a room with three twin beds and a small bathroom. The sink and mirror were in between the main room and the little bathroom. Overall the room was clean but the bathroom itself could of used air fresherner, it had the dorm like/moth like smell. As for the view from the window, there wasn't much to see. I looked out and saw a beautiful view of a parking structure hehe YWCA is ok but nothing too special. The best thing is the low fee for the wi-fi. It was $3 wi-fi for three devices for 24 hours! read more

Front desk service can definitely improve. I was in line and no one acknowledged me when there were 2 other front desk staff not helping anyone. Then a guy walks in and they greet him right away. Wtf? I'm in line!! Luckily though, the woman helping me did not give me any grief. She checked me in an hour early and gave me a key for parking. During construction, parking is limited so you may have to park in another building depending on occupancy. Luckily for us, we were able to park in the garage but boy was it tight. I first stayed here when I was in high school for a school trip and all those fond memories of me as a teenager, visiting Vancouver with friends for the first time, all came back to me this past weekend. My boyfriend and I stayed here, and we both had not been to Vancouver in over several years, so it was quite a trip down memory lane and served as a mini-vacation. I booked YWCA Hotel because of my good times spent here, but also - it's very affordable and centrally located to all the different neighborhoods we wanted to walk to, including Gastown, Chinatown, and of course, Yaletown. The hotel isn't the fanciest place - it's very basic. But I'm not very selective when I choose lodging, since for me, the only time spent in a hotel will be to sleep. If there is a comfortable bed with a duvet versus a cheap comforter then I'm set. This was the case for YWCA Hotel. We had a private bathroom for a little extra money, in addition to two double beds. There was a mini-fridge and a shower stall - no tub, which works for me since I don't generally take baths. For about 15 bucks you can pay for a parking spot during your stay, which is well worth it because parking in Vancouver can be tricky. It's in a secured garage that you will need an extra key for access. Also, the staff was very, very friendly. I only gave four stars for the lack of a king-size bed, which they don't offer. The double bed is the largest size they have, but hey, YWCA Hotel will always be my top choice for lodging in Vancouver. read more

Well, first the good. Our room, 1108, was really clean. The AC and wifi worked perfectly. The staff was helpful and extremely nice. Now the bad, room 1109 had a bathroom. We we're in a shared bath situation. 1109s bath was actually jetted into our room. I guess it used to be a shared bath. We could hear the couple next to us do their business. The smell was really gross. Also, they were really loud in the morning making sleep difficult. Maybe it was luck of the draw, but our room was icky because of the bathroom situation. This is so close to my tiny apartment, that a group of friends who traveled up stayed here. The location was how they found it, but the price made it a deal. There room was under $100. 3 people stayed in there- it had a double and two twins. There's a lot of options here- do you want a private shower/washroom, semi-private, or are you fine with the hall washroom. My friends opted for the semi-private. When I visited their room, they explained how it worked. It seemed nice and legit. I suppose you might not want to leave stuff around the sink though- since others will be in there too. (Hopefully no one would use your toothbrush..but you never know!) In the lobby they have some computers hooked up with internet- you have to pay for it, but it's cheap and convenient. Stayed here for one night and had a great experience. The location is great... BC Place is right across the street, which made for a unique view from my window. Aside from walking through Gastown, which is right around the corner, I also made the trek down Robson Street to Stanley Park (about a 40 minute walk). I ran into some drunken Canucks fans outside the hotel on my way back, which was entertaining for a few minutes before the conversation delved into meaningless gibberish. Hah. Staff were friendly and helpful, and I had absolutely everything I needed for a great price. I was expecting a hostel-esque arrangement, but the YWCA is definitely justified in calling itself a hotel. There are shared kitchens, lounge rooms, and floors with shared bathrooms, but you can also opt for a room with its own private bathroom. If you have a shared bathroom like I did, your room has a sink and vanity in it, which is nice. A bonus for choosing YWCA is that it's a social enterprise, so the some of the money you spend here goes toward community programs. Cheers to that! read more

Was supposed to go backpacking, lost my directions & ended up here for a night. The staff was super friendly and quite knowledgeable about the city. To be honest, I was expecting much lower quality of accommodation but it was actually really nice. Drawback was toilet/shower was down the hall but for around $60CAD (price for a suite w/full bed w/ student discount.. hell yeah!) it wasn't bad at all. I just took a 'korean-style' modified bath in the sink. It was safe and very quiet. Check out time was at 11am which I nearly missed. Can't beat the location, super close to SkyTrain stations, and the most beautiful public library I have ever seen in my life. Oh and I think it's close to a sports stadium too. I had a very pleasant experience. Great location-- It's in front of BC Place, a few blocks away from the shopping district on Robson Street, the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Central Library, the Stadium Skytrain station, and probably a good 15 minutes walk from Yaletown. The staff members at front desk are tremendously helpful and friendly. There is a small TV and a phone in my room. I opted for the semi-private, meaning I had to share the bathroom. There is, however, a sink, mirror, and hair dryer in my room (not shared). It isn't a big room but it's comfortable. The only thing I don't like about is the pillow. The guys next door were loud in the evening but the hotel encourages people to stay quiet after 11pm and they really did keep quiet later on. Wireless internet access is $6 every 24 hours. They also have a weekly rate that is around $24. I definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a reasonably priced, safe, clean, friendly, and accessible hotel in downtown Vancouver. It costs slightly more than staying at the HI or Global Village but it's well worth it. read more

This hotel was recommended to me by a resident of the city when I was having trouble finding a decent place for a decent price. I was skeptical because it's a Y and we don't associate those with hotels in the States. I was assured it was clean and in a good area. The price was right, so I crossed my fingers, and reserved a room with double beds for two nights before a cruise. No complaints. There isn't any plushness, but it is adequate for a couple nights of stay. Even has a full kitchen! The lobby has vending machines and computers for guests' use. The desk staff is very friendly and helpful when inquiring about the area. The location is great and nearby to Robson Street which has a plethora of shops and eateries. I only needed a taxi from the airport and to the ship. It's close to Canada Place as well. My room had a private bath, but apparently all rooms do not and there's a public bath on those floors. I was told those rooms without a full private bath, do have wash bowls. Room was clean as was the kitchen. They provide fruit infused(lemons,lol) water in the lobby throughout the day, and coffee in the morning. Parking is available. Free WiFi worked great in the room. There was lounge on my floor too. All of the guests were friendly and everyone offered a greeting in passing. I was pleasantly surprised with the YWCA Hotel and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again next time I'm in Vancouver. read more

This was the best budget hotel experience I've had in Vancouver so far. There are absolutely no frills to be found here, but it's very cheap, very clean, and very conveniently located (well, unless you want to spend all night clubbin' and be able to stumble back across the street to your seedy Granville St. hotel). The staff was really friendly and helpful, and there was secured garage parking, which was a big plus (and we're not talking "secure" like the Ramada Inn, yeesh). Our room was really basic, but it had everything we needed, was clean, and also cost like $50 a night. Things you need to know: there is no continental breakfast, and you won't find any tiny shampoo/conditioner/body wash in the bathrooms. This is also probably the first hotel where they had actual keys instead of key cards, and the key is attached to a rather clunky keychain that you probably don't want to carry around with you. No problem, check it in with the front desk while you're out. If you don't find any of these things terribly inconvenient (and I don't), you won't find a better deal. read more

This was a great deal along with a great location! Just blocks from Yaletown, Gastown, and steps from BC Place it is conveniently located near public transportation. The bad: wi-fi was not free but they had a weekly rate for $22 which we used for multiple devices...the private showers were small but clean..The good: It hosts a friendly staff that accommodated all of our needs and the rooms were comparable to any standard 4-star hotel. They have a place to lock up your bike if you rent them ( I recommend Bayshore rentals). The rooms had a refrigerator, a dish set to use in the community kitchen (which was usually empty), and the luxury of having quiet neighbors. Weekly rates are available to make the stay even more affordable. A definitely steal in a high-class city! read more

There are many expensive destination hotels but sometimes you just need a place to store your stuff and somewhere safe to sleep. The YWCA offers value accommodations at a premium downtown location. This has been my base camp for several years now. Across the street from both B.C. Place and Rogers Arena. Want to watch Pink or Katie Perry in concert? Are you a Canucks fanatic? Love the Lions and the Whitecaps? .......So do I !!!!!........ The hotel is four blocks from Water street and two blocks from the Skytrain and more importantly Fatburger. Rooms are dorm sized but well maintained and very clean. Complete with sink and mini fridge, rates start at $69 for a single twin bed with communal washroom and shower facilities. I recommend a $10 upgrade for a semi private washroom. A mad dash down two corridors at 3am while hopping on one foot and fighting with the door key may end tragically. The hotel supplies nature friendly soaps and shampoo as part of their go green program which includes recycle and organic bins. Security is taken seriously here. The building entrance locks at 11pm. You must contact the front desk via intercom and supply your name and room number to gain entry. The elevator is security enabled from a magnetic tag on your room key. The YWCA is community minded both hosting activities and posting local events prominently on placards in the elevators. This includes all home game dates for the Canucks. Room rates vary with seasonal demand and pre booking is advised during the summer months. read more

Super friendly staff and many amenities make this place seem luxurious - I had a squeaky clean room with a mini-fridge, sink, and giant teevee for under $70 Canadian. A caveat: I don't mind the shared bathrooms, in fact it's nice not having the toilet 6 feet from your head when you're sleeping. If you have a 2-hour bladder, I think there are rooms with private baths available also. There is also a luggage room where you can safely stash your stuff long after you check out to explore the city unencumbered. I really enjoyed my stay here at the YWCA. Is very convenient with nearby banks and restaurants. The stadium is also across, and is perfect to stay there if your attending events. The only inconvenience was the lack of bathroom inside rooms; however, I was able to always use the bathroom without having to wait for it. I also give it a three star because of the lack of convenience for exchange currency when they said they offer it. Overall. I had a good time despite the twin beds. I had a room sharing a bathroom with one other room. The bathroom (with a shower and toilet) connects the two hotel rooms and has a door opening to each room. The bathroom door locks to ensure privacy. Each hotel room has a sink. A good arrangement although perhaps not so good if sharing the bathroom with inconsiderate people because the walls are a little thin. Also, the room isn't huge so perhaps could be a little tight if two people were staying in the room and spending a bit of time at the hotel. Would be ok if just coming back to sleep at night. There are coin operated laundry facilities and kitchens or kitchenettes on each floor. You need to request dishes from the front counter though. My room had a fridge and I was able to have a bowl of cereal each morning (a self catered breakfast is always my preference when travelling). My only complaint is the wifi frequency. Drops out frequently and is inconsistent. I do know, however, that they were changing from charging $3/day to making wifi free for guests so perhaps that had something to do with the poor connection. Hostels in downtown Vancouver are very expensive, for the cost of 2 dorm beds, you can have a private room for 2 with your own bathroom. Overall great experience and I would recommend to anyone looking for a nice cheap place to stay for a coupe of nights. read more

I stayed here with another person in a room with a private bathroom, which ended up costing us under $160 each night, including underground parking. I was going to the Justin Timberlake & Jay-Z "Legend of Summer" concert at the BC place so I thought I needed a hotel close by. I found this hotel online and it turned out even better than I expected. It's literally right across the street of the BC place!!! I was able to shopping all day at the Robson Street (which is right by the hotel too), enjoy delicious food like Japadog and Jinya Ramen (there are tons of restaurants of all kinds on the Robson st.), and go back to my hotel room, get a shower and get changed for the concert. It was so convenient. The hotel itself was really good too. Clean room. We stayed on the 12th floor so it even provided us with great view including the BC place. Staffs were very friendly and helpful. They even gave me a map and showed me where to visit as well as where I shouldn't go. It's a really good bargain too, considering the location. Location, price, safety and friendly. This definitely will be my hotel when I'm coming back to Vancouver again. read more

Great location in downtown, close to BC stadium. The beds were comfortable although we booked a queen bed and got two double beds instead. Glad we got a private bathroom! The staff was extremely condescending and rude! Glad the place had air conditioning at least. read more
