Had a great time here tonight! The hostess was very warm and inviting. Our server, Taylor, was second to none. She was very sweet and attentive. I had four items picked out that I wanted and I asked her to pick for me. The menu is great! She chose the buffalo chicken salad. When she brought the food she brought me one of the other items I had mentioned, the almond encrusted tilapia, so I was totally surprised. I love surprises, especially with food! We ordered the Parmesan frites and mushrooms for apps. There was a half off happy hour on domestics so I went with the bud light. There was a mistake on a beer somewhere so I ended up getting two for one -hooray! Our other two orders were meatloaf with potatoes. The meatloaf is the bomb.com, no lie. Overall, we had a wonderful dining experience. The place was hopping but not so much that we couldn't get a table or the service suffered. read more

It tries to appeal to the masses, but at the same time tries be upscale. Think Chili's Bar and Grill with a sleek modern design style. Combined with the average service of Applebee's and the menu of a fine dining restaurant and you have Houlihan's. Not exactly the progressive consumer experience I expected. For appetizer we had the calamari. It was cooked well and had a spicy dipping sauce and lime. Very well plated except the calamari came in a paper box. My wife had the scallops and they looked amazing, but they were definitely over cooked. I had the So Cal fish tacos. Good but not wow fish tacos. The wait staff seemed to be nicer/happier than average, but awkward when you walk in because 4 people standing up front, but they all have their back to you huddled at the server station. Good service and good food. I would say 3.5 Stars. Staff was really friendly to our group 6 + a child. Got us right into a large table. I ordered the wings with a side of sweet potato fries (with horseradish sauce). Wings were delicious (I am a wing...nut). I can honestly the buffalo wings are a sure thing. Some of the folks had salads and said they were tasty. Burger sliders were good but didn't receive rave reviews. Happy hour prices were on par with many places but can't say great for college town. $4.00 for iced tea seemed a little high considering a monster (possibly a liter?) Long Island was $9.00. I recently ate here with a friend to try the Impossible Burger and it was AMAZING! Since my friend and I were both vegan, we had to modify the burger quite a bit I.e. no cheese, no sauce, sub a gluten-free bun, and add guac and salsa! Although our order had a lot of modifications, our bartender Kylie was very patient, understanding, and made sure that our burgers were done properly! Also, I got to try the Raspberry Peach Sangria, I got the white one, it was a bit more sour than I expected, but it was delicious regardless and enough to get me a little tipsy! Houlihans is one of my favorite restaurants in town. The stuffed chicken and mushrooms are amazing! I am fan of their fries too. Stephanie, the manager, is absolutely fabulous. One day, they were not super busy and she took the time to chat with me and my friend. I think it's great that she takes interest in her customers (and remembers them!). An added bonus is if you sign up for their e-mail list, you get a free meal (up to $15) for your birthday, along with more coupons throughout the year. I only had one bit of bad luck. One birthday, the server never returned after my food was brought. No refills and didn't even bring the check. I had to go up front to pay. read more

Beautiful settings and atmosphere for group dining or power lunch. I really like the promises for meal preparation time limit during lunch hours so one can control short lunch breaks and meet with the important guests. Today, we had lunch here with a large group, but a few folks have classes afterward, and the servicing staff and the kitchen worked with us to get their meals as soon as possible. Really a great service award on this one! Menu items are full of healthy choices, salads, veggie burger, low-carb, etc. Should be a big plus for customers on health consciences programs. also, the meaty menu items, I will recommend the pot roast and southwestern chicken wrap. For salads, I will start with Ahi Tuna, Asian Chop-Chop. They are really big portions for hungry healthy diners. The biggest issue is the noise level, one can barely have a business conversation during your meal even the restaurant is half full. Been wanting to try this place & decided tonight was the night. The waitress was pleasant, but maybe not as punctual as we wished. We had to ask for drink refills twice before it happened. I had the butternut squash lasagna which was pretty good. My husband had the Southwest Chicken wrap which was a joke! It was an open ended tortilla that he couldn't even pick up. Everything fell out of each end everywhere. The menu claimed it was spicy & my husband had to ask for some hot sauce b/c it was bland. My youngest son ordered cheese pizza, which he liked. My middle son enjoyed his chicken Alfredo. My oldest son had the KS City prime burger & we all agreed that was the best thing on the table! So, if you're reading this and wondering what to order there you go! We're looking at our visit as a lesson & learned we probably wont return unless we want an awesome burger. read more

We are two breakfast's in Houlihan's, which is in the Holiday Inn. The menu is pretty basic, but since it wasn't busy we ordered somewhat off menu. Our wait person was handling the whole restaurant by herself. We asked for biscuits and gravy and she made it happen. Shelly, our waitperson, joyfully worked with the kitchen staff and after a short wait we were eating fresh baked biscuits and the best sausage gravy in town. Shelly is a star! She is very customer oriented (a rare thing these days) and treated us as if we were family! Definitely a do over for us (a party of 5). Thanks Shelly! You did darn good! read more

You're coming to a Houlihan's so you have to have a pretty good idea of what you're getting into. And I like a $2.50 margarita as much as the next girl, even with the inevitable "you get what you pay for" conversation that is sure to follow. But I've been to this location a number of times over the past few months, and I'm sad to say that every time - every. single. time. - something is wrong with our order. Once it was meat in a vegetarian omelet. Another time they forgot an order of hummus. Another time we picked up a to-go order and one of the dishes was missing completely. Another time they slathered ribs in BBQ sauce when they were specifically asked for dry. And the list doesn't stop there. Don't get me wrong - these small errors are not a big deal if they existed as a one off, but when you can count on the fact that your order will be delivered incorrectly, you begin wonder what other details are getting ignored behind the scenes that you're unable to see. One of my favorite places in Manhattan to go with my friends. My absolute favorite thing on the menu is the seared rare tuna wonton appetizer. The french dips are served medium rare, which I liked but my friend didnt. Chicken chipotle nachos are a big favorite, and huge! Their house salad is great! Their desserts are pretty good also. I ate here midday and ordered the unlimited soup and salad. Both the French Onion and the Potato-Bacon whatever soup I had were very good. Strong flavor, like most good soups I've ever had. Normally I would rate this place four to five points. Tonight the only reason it's a two is the food was good. Service was horrible. I even returned from the restroom to discover my table had been cleared to include a full glass of wine. I hadn't even paid yet. I informed my waitress I was headed to the restroom but since my new glass of wine was just ordered and delivered I would be returning. I even left my keys on the table just in case. The waitress informed that would be fine. I wasn't even gone five minutes. It took much longer to order my meal and have it delivered than it took for me to go to the restroom and return. Save a few bucks and go to Olive Garden. The experience will be much better. Took more than 15 minutes for the waitress, responsible for two whole tables, to acknowledge our presence. Took almost 20 minutes to get my Old Fashioned, which contained so much orange juice it should've been delivered in a Tropicana carton. My second drink, a Manhattan, was for some reason served in a rocks glass full of ice and had more cherries than Washington state. I'm a Bourbon geek, and these were actually insulting. Waited nearly 20 minutes for the pretzel stick appetizer. It was OK, but no better than those from Buffalo Wild Wings. Meals were OK. My strip steak was a bit more than overcooked. Asked for medium rare, but got medium, at best. Wife's filet was overcooked, as well, but had a decent flavor and was tender. Bright spot for me was the garlic Parmesan aioli I used to help my steak. It's just like any other Houlihan's. There's something about the interior that makes it get very noisy. It reminds me of Bangsar stalls in Kuala Lumpur. When I do go, I try not to go there at lunchtime or dinner time. I think I would go back between 4-6pm for the Happy Hour appetizer deal. Nice interior, and good for appetizers, but that's about it. Took my whole family here when they were visiting from out of town. Like another reviewer said, something is always wrong. From being out of several items on the specials list (at 7 on a Thursday) to the drinks.... I ordered a mule from the menu, and it was 100% undrinkable. Its hard to screw up a mule (liquor, lime juice and ginger beer), so I was baffled. When I told the waitress, she then informed me they were out of ginger beer, so the bartender just "winged" it-- and that it was practically the same thing. I beg to differ, but it tasted like perfume. Beyond this, why wouldn't you explain this to the customer before offering them a substituted drink, before serving, with every intention of charging for the real drink? You're also dealing with a local who lives five minutes away, and I can see two liquor stores that carry ginger beer from the Houlihans parking lot. I never figured out what the bartender's idea of a substitute was, but they did still try to charge us $8 for a drink with the wrong ingredients that sat on the table. Bottom line: There are too many fantastic restaurants in Manhattan, with great customer service, GREAT drinks, and food that costs a fraction of this overpriced chain to ever patron this place again. read more

Typical hotel restaurant fare. Service was friendly and attentive and the timing was good. The ahi tuna appetizer was served rare with a very nice slaw. The drink special was a half-priced liter pitcher of cranberry-based drinks, which came out to about $3.75 each. These things were alright, but the side salad was a watery mess of shredded iceberg with a handful of frozen corn and a ramekin of bottled dressing. For a place in this price range it was just okay. The customer service that I received was the absolute worst customer service I have ever received in my life. My appetizer plates were dirty and had leftover scum and food from previous customers on it. Also when ordering my cocktails the cocktail glass was chipped and had dirt inside. When I asked for a new cocktail, the bartender didn't believe me and openly discussed my judgment in the quality of the cocktail at the bar with other customers . Tonight we came and my 6m old child started choking. Samuel, our waiter was simply passing by and while I was frozen in panic picked up my child and saved his life before I even knew he was there! While the food and drinks are always amazing I could never thank him enough for going above and beyond and saving my child.
