Houlihan's is one of those guilty pleasures you don't tell your friends about. Like how occasionally you don't get the non-Fat latte on your way to work, but instead indulge yourself in a filling cream-topped masterpiece of sugar and caffeine. Houlihan's is unapologetically classy. Not in perhaps a literal sense as it is immediately relatable and accessible in its beloved reliance on cooking with quality ingredients from scratch. Rather, it is the veneer of the experience - the presentation, the plating, and the price tag - where the normally discretionary diner does away with his sensibilities for some serious culinary comfort and customer service. Black shirts abound, dancing between booth and table space to ensure all who frequent the establishment are satisfied from start to finish. The food holds true to brand message, namely that it carries the hallmark of something crafted rather than simply cobbled together through rote memorization or adherence to efficiency. But to return to the original metaphor, I really do feel it is one of those places you're almost ashamed to admit you like, nestled up against the warm Caucasian bosom of Golden Bear territory. Plus you pay for the performance. A night out here is not cheap, only insofar that to fully enjoy the place drinks and appetizers are an absolute must that cannot be missed. Be that as it may, it's a favorite of mine, and I'll own it. The parking is a hot mess though in evenings. Never thought I'd be fighting for primo spaces with people trying to shop the local hardware store. What are you waiting for? Go! We three of us went for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. Not busy at all. We were seated promptly and the waiter took our order soon thereafter. The orders were simple lunch combinations. The wait for the food was unacceptably long (25 minutes), the server was inattentive, and we complained about the fact the food was not out. No one offered to compensate us anything. All we received were explanations and excuses. I will never return to this establishment. It has seen better days and is on the downward slide in my estimation. The service is sub-par. read more

A big group of friends decided to meet here for Rosé Day. Houlihan's has Saturday happy hour specials - both food and drink - from 1-4 pm at their bar and pretty spacious patio spaces. Our waitress was polite and checked in periodically on our group of 20. I ordered off their $5 Spot happy hour menu, and got the Chicken Lettuce Wraps and Char-Crusted Ahi Tuna; also got a regular-priced side of their sweet potato fries. I wasn't really wowed with anything. Decent sustenance, but nothing jumped out. The chicken mix had way too much sweet sauce. The ahi tuna rub was tasteless - yes, I'm well aware that fresh seared tune in general doesn't have much taste - so that was a bummer. My sweet potato fries were decent. After our 3 hour stay, giant props to our waitress for covering all 20 of us. She was on. the. ball. Food was brought out hot, drink orders and refills were spot on, and checks were dispersed with only one or two minor hiccups. read more

We have been hitting a new happy hour spot every Wednesday since the "quarantine" has been lifted. I am putting Houlihan's Happy Hour specials at the very top of that list for you to try! Drink prices were amazing and tasted great. Food prices were amazing and we tried everything on the menu! The wings were cooked perfectly - crispy, juicy, and had the perfect amount of sauce. The burgers were cooked medium as we had requested and they were delicious. My favorite menu item was the "shrooms" which are stuffed mushrooms that have been battered and deep fried - wow. The egg rolls were great, excellent dipping sauces. The pan fried dumplings had a nice amount of sesame seeds on them and the dipping sauce was great! Pro-tip: be careful of the chicken wraps - the chicken was almost spreadable which freaked me out a bit - the texture was off but the flavor was on. Check out the Long Island ice teas made by Nichole and make sure you have a designated driver if you get the $5 pitcher! read more

I've been to Houlihan's a few times, and I have found it to be reliably good. The menu is diverse, they have good drinks, and the restaurant itself is nice - lots of seating inside and a decent patio for when the weather is pleasant. I generally order the Korean Chicken, which is delicious. It's a large piece of succulent chicken served on a bed of brown rice with pineapple mixed in (my favorite part!). It also has a slightly-spicy sauce. On our most recent trip, my girlfriend got the Chipotle Chicken Nachos appetizer. The nachos were more focused on quantity than quality - it was a massive plate of nachos, but they were just mediocre. I haven't been to Houlihan's for Happy Hour, but they advertise lots of $5 appetizers and drinks; I will definitely be back to check it out! read more

This place has a great happy hour. Most drinks are $5. I got a glass of wine, of course. My daughter got a huge margarita and they both were $5. Appetizers are five bucks as well. We ordered the chicken wings and the guacamole. Both were great! My fish tacos were very tasty and no complaints from the rest of the table except for my sister in law ordered the salmon. This is a nice spot close to the office. Came here for lunch with a coworker. The service was great! The manager even came around to ask how things were. We started with the firecracker cauliflower. It was really delicious and the coating stayed on. The appetizer had nice big chunks and there was plenty. I also had the ahi tuna salad. I didn't really care for the salad. Wow! We just missed happy hour* because of traffic but we had some wonderful food. We received a coupon in the mail and thought we would come check it out for dinner. I was super excited for the firecracker cauliflower and it did not disappoint! Awesome flavor and maybe a bit healthier than usual. At least let me tell myself that :) We also ordered the pot stickers. You can't really go wrong with them, but don't expect them to be super authentic. They're part of the happy hour specials so I would try them then. We also got a salad to share. The buffalo sauce was great but I felt like it was a little small in terms of the lettuce for the cost of the salad. Overall we are excited to come back and try more things (hopefully during happy hour). Our waitress was AWESOME and we hope we see her again! *This happy hour is awesome! My father and I went here for dinner, before we went I called if they are takeoff walks in. I had to call twice because the first time they didn't answer and we I did talk to some they said the place was full but seating at the bar. When we go there the restaurant was NOT full and we indeed got a both, already not on a good start. The service was terrible. After being seat we waited 10 minutes for our wait to even talk to use, when she did there was no introduction and just demanded use what we want to drink and eat. We waited another 10+ minutes for our food and we she went to set the plates down, she gently threw them on the table and left. She only talk to use two time and we're sat by a big table with guest come and going that were not at the table. The only fast apart of our server was when she got our check. I felt rushed and if I could give this place zero stars I would! The service was terrible from the start and when we left there was nobody at the front counter either. Also the food was mediocre at best they give you super small amounts of food for an entire and with high price points. This place was not worth it and a waste of time and money. Having previously worked for a franchise Houlihans almost 10 years ago, it's been a long time since I have had the chance to have their food. So on a Valentines Day visit with my partner, has it changed? Is it still the scratch made delicious food as I have been accustomed to. Short answer....hell yes! Tried as appetizers ahi tuna crisps and the potstickers. The ahi tuna was served with wonton crisps and asian slaw with a wasabi cream and sweet eel sauce. Very delicious, and just plain mouth watering. The potstickers were nicely steamed and had a very tasty pork and veggie filling. The asian sauce it came with was tangy, spicy, and freakin delicious! Also got the tortilla soup, which was filled with veggies, chicken, cheese, and tortilla crisps in a very flavorful tomato based broth. For dinner I got the scallops. The server said for the small portion I would get 4 or 5 scallops. However, I guess they used smaller scallops so I had 7 or 8 scallops. Although ok, the scallops were not seasoned and not cooked thoroughly. The scallops were served atop an asparagus risotto. I was very disappointed in the risotto, as it was not creamy or flavorful, but merely tasted like cooked rice with small chopped hard and tough asparagus thrown in. The textures were not meshing well and I really expected more. My partner got the Kansas City Strip. He ordered it medium, and despite it being cooked med to med well, the steak was surprisiny bland. When asked what about the dish he enjoyed the most, my partner stated the brussel sprouts were amazing and the macaroni & cheese was delicious, but the steak was just...ok. Deciding to splurge on the meal, we opted to actually get some desserts. I got the vanilla bean creme brulee and my partner got the salted caramel sticky cake. The creme brulee was exactly what I expected. Some custard with caramelized sugar top with some berries. It was quite tasty. However, the salted caramel sticky cake....O...M...G!!!! This has to be one of the best desserts I have ever had. It was flavorful, moist, decadent, with every single bite tasting amazing. Will be getting this again! All in all, Houlihans was a great choice and can't wait to see what else they can surprise me with! read more

Favorites include the spicy cauliflower, 'shrooms, French onion soup, all of the salads, scallops, French dip and more! Great patio, too! I haven't been to a Houlihan's in many years since Indy so was happy to check out this one here. Atmosphere was good. Wait staff were personable and efficient. Ordered the 3 item Fixed Menu of 'Srooms, Spicey Shrimp Pasta and Brownie Cake. Price was really great. The 'Srooms was as tasty as when I had them before in Indy and they were deep fried. Hadn't expected that but didn't take away from taste. Pasta could've been a little more spicy. The Brownie Cake was rich and decadent and good! One problem was the Tito dirty martini I ordered was small for the price. Half cocktail glass full. I thot alot had splashed out and bartender didn't care and served it anyway. Wait staff took notice and got me another martini that was respectably sized. . Overall I had a very nice meal and will definitely make a return visit. read more

The Hype: I've been to Houlihan's a couple of times before, and I've never been super impressed with it. The upscale atmosphere of the restaurant itself belies the quality of the food, which usually floats somewhere between Olive Garden and Outback Steakhouse. The service is prompt and professional, but it's an expensive meal. I was happy to give it a go for a burger-week special, knowing at least I'd be getting a bargain. The Burger - BURGER 72 - USDA Prime beef topped with out famous since 1972 garlic herb cream cheese stuffed jumbo mushroom, creamy horseradish, parmesan cheese, and arugula The beef was overcooked. It came out between medium-well and well-done when I asked for medium rare. Tragically, the kitchen cooked out all the flavor and the juices of the beef, leaving me with a slab of gray-brown meat indistinguishable from what I might get at a fast-food restaurant. The stuffed mushroom was kind of a pain to eat around. That being said, it also yielded the best bites of the burger. When I got to the middle of the sandwich, the burst of tangy Parmesan and sharp horseradish more than made up for the flavorless patty. The sides for the special were a la carte, so I picked up some sweet potato fries ($4) to go with my sandwich. The fries were long and thin, but not quite shoe-string. They were seasoned with coarse sea salt, but they weren't evenly cooked, leaving a lot to be desired. They weren't bad, but they're definitely not worth the price. In fact, "not bad, but not worth the price" about sums up Houlihan's. Columbus has so much more to offer at better prices. It's not the worst food I've ever had, but if that's the upshot to a review for a restaurant, it's probably not that great a restaurant. read more

Went here tonight for the first time for Fathers Day. Surprisingly it was not busy at all! I had a party of 7. From the beginning the service was pretty slow. Our waiter brought out 3 drinks and about 5 minutes later brought the rest. A drink from the bar was ordered which didn't come until the meals came because he forgot about it. Two appetizers were ordered and we had to ask him about the whereabouts for that and he said sorry it takes the kitchen longer when it's close to closing time. It was 830 and they close at 10 PM so I was not thrilled with that response. The meals came and I was very unimpressed just with the looks of mine. I ordered the salmon and it came with mashed potatoes and my choice of vegetable. It was very mediocre. Mashed potatoes were super gummy and cold. Garlic green beans lacked flavor and were also cold. The salmon was at least hot but it was over cooked. I planned to have our serve reheat mine but he was taking so long to come back to the table that I just decided to eat it as is. Two people ordered the shrimp pasta and both expressed how dry it was which you could tell by looking. They ordered a side of Alfredo to make it better. During the meal we asked for drink refills but that didn't happen until we reminded him. I will say everyone enjoyed the spinach and artichoke dip, my Dad liked his fish tacos, and the vanilla bean cheesecake was great and I don't like cheesecake. Having served many years I was confused as to why the service was so slow and the server was super forgetful. The place was pretty empty and drink refills shouldn't have to be asked about. I was pleasantly surprised by this relatively new restaurant in Upper Arlington's Kingsdale Plaza. Bf and I were in a "nothing sounds good" mood and their menu looked nicely varied so we gave it a shot. I love that they have their own building and are not tucked away in the shopping plaza. There was plenty of convenient parking and they had a nice outdoor patio area. Inside, the decor was nice and cozy with a really cool fireplace in the wall that added some character. Bf & I usually prefer booths, but the dining chairs were so comfy I didn't mind sitting at a table. The menu had a lot of options that all sounded pretty good and I thought the prices seemed pretty reasonable. I ended up with a 6oz Top Sirloin, Asparagus, Mashed Potatoes and a side salad ($14). The side salad was awesome and had corn and bacon on top. My steak was a little overcooked, but not inedible. It was pretty thin and I think they'd benefit from a slightly thicker cut. The mashed potatoes were AWESOME. Super creamy and buttery (and guilt-inducing...). Bf got the steak & bleu salad, which essentially looked like my same exact steak with a wedge salad and asparagus (also $14). It was nice they kept the steak whole instead of cutting up overcooked strips of steak like most places. They have a lot of apps/small plates to share and I'd definitely like to sample those next time. Overall we really enjoyed our meals and will for sure come back. The remake of houlihans (at least from what I remember of the one in Cleveland years ago) is a lot more modern and innovative. They have a fun txt message program which lets you know about monday specials and sends you free menu items for your birthday and your sign up anniversary. All in all we've found the menu fun, we've had all the flatbreads... they have a good amount of crust to them so they are not like a cracker. I'm a big fan of the BBQ chicken, but we like the caprese a bit too. A lot of their apps are tasty so we usually get one of those (my wife enjoys the chicken lettuce wraps and the chicken egg rolls). A lot of their salad are tasty, I've enjoyed the ahi tuna salad and the steak salad. All in all i've enjoyed a lot of their items, i personal think they could use a bit more zing... but I like a lot of flavor so it might just be me. I also like to be thrifty, but i have a hard time keeping my total down here (might be the wine special convinces me every time) Lastly the servers are generally friendly and I've yet to have a bad experience with them. read more
