I was pleasantly surprised by this relatively new restaurant in Upper Arlington's Kingsdale Plaza. Bf and I were in a "nothing sounds good" mood and their menu looked nicely varied so we gave it a shot. I love that they have their own building and are not tucked away in the shopping plaza. There was plenty of convenient parking and they had a nice outdoor patio area. Inside, the decor was nice and cozy with a really cool fireplace in the wall that added some character. Bf & I usually prefer booths, but the dining chairs were so comfy I didn't mind sitting at a table. The menu had a lot of options that all sounded pretty good and I thought the prices seemed pretty reasonable. I ended up with a 6oz Top Sirloin, Asparagus, Mashed Potatoes and a side salad ($14). The side salad was awesome and had corn and bacon on top. My steak was a little overcooked, but not inedible. It was pretty thin and I think they'd benefit from a slightly thicker cut. The mashed potatoes were AWESOME. Super creamy and buttery (and guilt-inducing...). Bf got the steak & bleu salad, which essentially looked like my same exact steak with a wedge salad and asparagus (also $14). It was nice they kept the steak whole instead of cutting up overcooked strips of steak like most places. They have a lot of apps/small plates to share and I'd definitely like to sample those next time. Overall we really enjoyed our meals and will for sure come back. The remake of houlihans (at least from what I remember of the one in Cleveland years ago) is a lot more modern and innovative. They have a fun txt message program which lets you know about monday specials and sends you free menu items for your birthday and your sign up anniversary. All in all we've found the menu fun, we've had all the flatbreads... they have a good amount of crust to them so they are not like a cracker. I'm a big fan of the BBQ chicken, but we like the caprese a bit too. A lot of their apps are tasty so we usually get one of those (my wife enjoys the chicken lettuce wraps and the chicken egg rolls). A lot of their salad are tasty, I've enjoyed the ahi tuna salad and the steak salad. All in all i've enjoyed a lot of their items, i personal think they could use a bit more zing... but I like a lot of flavor so it might just be me. I also like to be thrifty, but i have a hard time keeping my total down here (might be the wine special convinces me every time) Lastly the servers are generally friendly and I've yet to have a bad experience with them. read more

My family decided to come after our Christmas Eve service this year. I got the chick Alfredo and chicken tortilla soup. The soup is not thick at all more like chicken noodle soup texture. Which I'm not a fan of and the tortilla they put on top were very stale so they had to be soaked for a minute. The bread that came with my Alfredo was not soft and the chicken tasted weird. The noodles where decent but not much flavor unfortunately. My grandma had to send back her shrimp Alfredo because it was cold. My aunts baked Potatoe was cold as well.. my grandpa had the scallopes and they were also Luke warm and not much flavor. My aunts asparagus was cold as well. We did have a big group so it's understandable that some of the food is cold. The other 7 had good food with no complaints. Happy hour is all day on Sundays! Which was a really nice surprise because I was expecting to spend a bit more money than I actually wanted to - so when I saw all the $5 happy hour specials I was relieved to save the money and I was able to get a $4 dollar craft beer too. The chicken lettuce wraps were super yummy. The chicken was Asian inspired - reminded of PF Chang's lettuce wraps. The sauce/dressing it comes with is really not needed and undesirably vinegar tasting - but no problem - I just avoided it. They come with these crispy strips for a topping that I enjoyed as well. The buffalo chicken wings with blue cheese were good and I really liked the dumplings. No complaints on any of the $5 happy hour specials we ordered. We did order a side salad and actually returned it because when it came it didn't have hardly any salad in it. Which was surprising -they didn't really ask a lot of questions so my guest just ordered the chicken lettuce wraps that I had and we were happy for sure. The side salad was definitely less than satisfactory and it was a little odd that there was hardly no lettuce in - I don't know what the deal was with that. I also got a $10 off offer on my receipt if I take a survey. I also grabbed a mystery coupon when leaving that u have to open -BUT - u can't open it until you come back and are seated. I visited here back on 5/6 this past Tuesday, happen to be at Kingsdale, hungry so we just walked in. Driving by it while leaving the mall, the people out on the patio enjoying their meals looked real nice, I said let's see if we can get a spot outside. We didn't get a outside table but the window seat with the pull down screen to the patio was just as good, almost. Our server came promptly and I ordered a bottle of wine (half off for entire bottle) - after all this was the special for the entire evening no other happy hour specials. No problem there it was already after 7:30. While he went for the wine .. we decided on our meal. I ordered the mushroom appetizer and a slider, fries. My partner in crime order the scallop dinner entree. Everything was pretty good .. nothing spectacular but better than average. After all we came here for atmosphere, that was just fine. However it did seem like eternity (30 minutes or more) and not a smidgen of food had arrived. My mistake was I ordered everything to come out together. Well, I was tired of just sipping my excellent wine and water so I motioned the manager who happened to be standing close by. When he approached the table so did our server with the food. Our server said that there was a mistake in our order and they had to redo my slider burger, so they had to hold the production on the whole meal. The manager walked away because I was famished, didn't really want to discuss anything anymore. The waiter offered to give me the fries free - okay thanks :-) I think either our waiter or manager should have stopped by and checked to see if we were hungry and or told us about the delay. On Wednesday I received email that patio was heated. My husband and I are only eating on patios but the weather is changing and I'm a baby so this was good to know. Even though it was. Lear on the other side of town we ventured there for lunch on Saturday. Patio very. Ice but it was a chilly day. I asked manager about heaters and he replied they don't have them yet. When I told him about email he said that they sent email before they got the heaters ! And I drove 30 minutes to freeze ? It wasn't his fault but jeez. I had a regular cheeseburger with cheddar. He had the Kansas City. The texture was very nice smooth not chewy. The burger itself was not very flavorful. Fries were seasoned - they were ok but nothing special. Burgers ,fries, and diet cokes. Including tip $41.00. I say it's a bit overpriced for a lunch of mediocre burgers. Up to 9 months ago was very good. Since then their stuffed mushroom and spinach dip appetizer has gone downhill bigtime. Showed up at 5:30 to meet some friends and sat in the bar area at a table as I have done for years. Took over 20 minutes before a waiter showed up. Unusually light crowd ....and now I know why. Worst dining experience I have had ever. No staff, no service and no manager visit. Manager used to always be visible . They only had 2-3 waiters. Had to wait over 35 minutes for a beer and they were out of salmon at 6! Clearly understaffed. Boy has this place fallen apart . Hope they can regroup and attract and hire additional staffing and return to providing friendly, timely service ....and a manager that is visible again!!! Super disappointing! We made a reservation for booth and upon arrival we taken to a table(with booths available) when asked why no booth? We were told other clients had reserved booths and they were VIPs and therefore more important. We asked for a manager who fixed the issue explaining it was a mistake. Then we waited for 25 minutes to be acknowledged by waitress, two entries came out 20 minutes apart 2nd was cold. This is one of my favorite spots to eat! It's close to the Giant Eagle Market District making it the perfect dining option after Friday night wine tasting. They have a small seasonal menu that rotates in addition to their extensive main menu. There is something for everyone. Some of my personal favorites: $16.50 steak dinner with two sides, any of the soups and the buffalo chicken salad. Price is reasonable for cocktails, wine and beer. Come on bartenders, get your A game on! You ladies are killing me! I have sat at the bar twice in the last week and your bartenders are unfriendly, inattentive, and unprofessional! Why do I have to ask if you can help me? Shouldn't it be the other way around? I was so excited to have you walking distance from my house AND a restaurant from my hometown, Cleveland ! My favorite dish is either the seared ahi tuna salad.. So fresh and delicious! The 'famous stuff mushrooms' something changed..not as good as I remember.. My friends and I went here for restaurant week and it was okay. The wine flights are a nice way to be able to try multiple wines if you aren't sure of what you like. We all did the three course meal. I had the Bavarian pretzels, baked potato soup and Thai grilled chicken. It was pretty good. The pretzels and soup were awesome... The main dish was just okay. I would have liked it to have a little more kick and less sweetness! My one friend got the wild mushroom and arugula flatbread.. She loved it! I am not a huge fan of either of those, so I didn't try it. My other friend got the ribs and they were very good! Moist, not too dry and the bbq sauce was good. Food - average. Management - the pits: Received a coupon code for $15 birthday discount. Gave it to the server who jotted the code number in his order pad. Dinner was mediocre (meats were good but side dishes were cold). We were presented with the bill but without the discount. Server said one dinner was a special and therefore not discountable. We objected and he called the manager. The manager insisted the discount would not be allowed because on the coupon it stated not usable on special dinners (without listing what those dinners were). We pointed out that the waiter was given our coupon before we ordered and he said nothing. The manager insisted that we pay and there was nothing that he could or would do about the issue. The problem seems to be the manager. He poorly trained his staff. He was unwilling to find a way to correct the problem. And his attitude was "that is our policy and I'm sticking to it". He might find a home at Burger King but seems badly out of place at Houlihan's. read more

Went to Houlihans a couple days ago for my birthday. A first-timer for this place, but I have very fond memories of the old Houlihan's at the Continent back in the 80s. This Houlihans was not a disappointment! Modern decor with outdoor seating available and an awesome bar with plenty of places to sit - even a fireplace for ambiance! We wanted to sit in the bar and there was ample, comfortable seating available on a busy Friday evening - pleasantly surprised! My son said his burger was outstanding and I had their tasty calamari. Our initial visit for lunch we were impressed with the beautiful dining room. I ordered the Yukon mashed, Brussels sprouts and Caesar salad which were all very tasty. My husband got the fajitas that he said was also good. If you get there before two there are special prices on drinks. Each time I have visited I have enjoyed the Sangria for $3. Nomm, I had a great visit here! We tried the Korean Fried Chicken (3.5/5). The chicken was nicely done! But the red sauce was a little too spicy for us (typical Korean ;)). I thought the portion was pretty good - it was a huge thick piece of fried chicken on top of some fried rice. Glad that they included some green beans to the dish - otherwise, it's super imbalanced :)... The pre-fix sets were highly recommended. It was $19/set and came with a small appetizer and a dessert. I chose the $2 upcharge for the Seared George Banks Scallops (4.5/5) - liked this very much. It came with 7 or 8 medium-sized scallops so I felt like it was totally worth it. It is also a lighter dish compared with many others. The scallops tasted fresh but not overly seasoned so very refreshing. Enjoyed the greens on the yummy risotto as well. Would highly recommend this dish. Forgot to mention that the appetizer was also really appetizing - we had the Char-crusted Ahi Tuna (4.5/5). Very fresh and I liked the Asian-y sauce. Definitely made me start fantasizing all the yumminess that was going to come after. Towards the end, the dessert that we chose was the Vanilla Bean Cheesecake (4/5) - also delicious.
