The actual medical procedure performed by Dr. Solomon was actually okay and has held up years later (which is why I gave him 2 stars instead of one) but the reason for this 2 star review is for things that many other one and two star reviews cover. I was referred to Dr. Solomon a while back because I needed a hernia operation after an ultrasound confirmed that I had a hernia that needed to be repaired. My initial appointment with him went about as expected. He seemed a bit arrogant at first glance, and "all about the facts", but oddly devoid of compassion - which didn't mean much to me at the time, but I wish I had given heed to these warning signs at the very beginning! He examined me and said I believe you need to have your hernia operated on, and I agreed with him so we set up the surgery. It is also worth mentioning that I never saw him without medical students following him around, whether it was in his office or in the hospital for surgery - like he was holding court to show how important he is. My surgery was initially scheduled for 10:00 am and they ask you to come in 2 hours early to do paperwork and prep. The day before my surgery I got a call from his office. They said he had something clear off his schedule and asked if I was able to move my surgery 2 hours earlier at 8:00 am. I was fasting and knew that I would be getting hungry sooner than later so I was happy to get it over with earlier. The next day I came in at 6:00 am to get started. (Here is what other negative reviews have mentioned) I did my paperwork which went fast and they put me in a gown and took me to the pre-op area around 6:45 am...where I waited for hours because Dr. Solomon was nowhere to be found! They called him every hour and he didn't even pick up. Finally at 11:00 am he answered when the hospital called him and said he would be there as soon as he could. I was looking back at my paperwork and I checked in to the hospital at 6:00 am, and was given my pre-op antibiotics at 11:00 am when they actually talked to him and he confirmed that he was on his way in. I proceeded to wait another 3 hours until 2:00 pm when he finally strolled in, with a student by his side and when I asked why he was so late he arrogantly smirked and simply said he wasn't able to make it. Instead of having me come in 2 hours early, I wish they would have called and said he wouldn't be able to do my surgery until 2:00 pm. It was almost as if he purposely made me suffer longer, and then he was extremely smug about it. So from the time I got to the hospital till the time Dr. Solomon got there to do the surgery was 8 HOURS!!!!! - Absolutely inexcusable!! Normally in a situation like this I would have blown a gasket and raised a huge stink, but because it was just before my surgery, I didn't want to upset him or make him angry before he was about to do a major operation on me so I let it go. But I need to emphasize how hungry I was by this time, having not eaten anything since 6:00 pm the night before - not to mention having been in a hospital gown on an uncomfortable pre-op bed in a brightly lit area with other people for 8 hours. I have had many friends who had hernia surgery and every single one of them has emphasized how much pain they were in after the surgery and truly needed strong pain meds to get them through the first few days (which is understood to be a normal part of this particular surgery). After the surgery, Dr. Solomon told me and my girlfriend that he would not be giving me pain medication but that I should alternate taking 4 Tylenols and in 4 hours take 4 Ibuprofens, and that would be enough for the pain - so I did that for a couple of rounds until I woke up in the middle of the night writhing in pain and couldn't stand it, so I called the emergency on-call number and spoke to a doctor who said he would get me some pain medication. A few minutes later Dr. Solomon called me and tried to gaslight me saying that I shouldn't be in that much pain, but that he would send in a prescription for Tylenol 3 - which turns out is not much stronger that 4 Tylenols, at least for me. When I asked for something stronger he mentioned that he didn't do stronger things due to the addiction factor - At least give me a few days worth to get me through this incredible pain that you know I'm having doctor! - and understandably so with this particular operation!! It felt like he honestly wanted me to be in pain!! Again, it seems that Dr. Solomon revels in causing more pain to his patients than comforting and healing them! In conclusion, this was one of the worst medical experiences I've ever had. I can't remember being in more pain in my life. And the whole incident of being left waiting for 8 hours is just inexcusable! Especially since he had me come in 2 hours earlier. I have never had a doctor gaslight me into backing off and stay in pain. WTF!!!?? I would not wish this experience on my worst enemy! Do yourself a favor and dodge this bullet!! read more

Wonderful doctor! I had emergency surgery at TMMC and he was the doctor that was able to perform the surgery. He is straight and to the point which some people may not like but I loved how he explained everything I needed to know before the surgery and if I had any questions post op I was able to call the practices office for help. 3 minor incisions that have healed up well. First, this hernia doc punctured my husband's bladder. Then, my healthcare only covers this same office. My husband still has a hernia as confirmed by his PC, and they make you wait OVER AN HOUR for an appointment. Pathetic. I guess our time isn't valuable? Next open enrollment, I'm DONE with Torrance Memorial, which has really gone downhill and left its patients with lousy "care". The fact is, they don't care! This second doc is also ridiculous, down playing my husband's constant pain. Solomon is a butcher, and never even followed up with us, plus his office never completed my FMLA paperwork for work, and then THEY gave me a hard time. HORRIBLE. DO NOT USE!!!!! read more

No more pain! I had been on consistent pain for quite some time due to a previous mistake with my former doctor. Dr. Solomon was immediate in handling the problem. He was kind in helping me understand what the issue was. And his assistants and nurses were on top of everything from day one. While I hope to not need any additional procedures, it's wonderful to know Dr. Solomon has my best interest at heart and that I can call his office with any concern. read more

I don't have an issue with the surgeon. The problem is the billing department who keeps sending me the SAME bill telling me that I have not paid it when I have sent in the payment weeks ago. I have called this office multiple times and they tell me that they will have someone return my call and they never do. I have even left TWO voicemails with the billing department and no one returns my calls. I will be infuriated if this bill is sent to collections because of their inability to run a proper business!! Do yourselves a favor, Avoid this Surgeon Dr. Solomon and avoid this office. The office is very unprofessional don't get me started about billing they keep sending me the same statement saying I haven't payed which I have and they say "let me call you back to see what's going on" and they never do and now here's another statement. It has taken me a while to write this review because going over my ordeal gives me anxiety. I'm literally shaking right now writing this review. He deserves 0 stars! My surgery was on December 10th 2021 and we're in July now I'm still in some pain probably worse then before my surgery. I had 2 hernia surgeries one umbilical and the other was inguinal, both were repaired with mesh. Dr. Solomon was supposed to call my husband right after surgery to let him know how it went and what care was needed. He never called, the nurse contacted my husband 6 hours later. I came out of surgery in a lot of pain. I was very nauseous I gagged because I needed to throw up and the pain worsened. I couldn't pee on my own after 5 hours they finally put a catheter. They still discharged me while I was nauseous and still unable to pee on my own. On my way out I threw up and still they let me go home like this. It's pretty hard to try to defend yourself or complain while under medication they took advantage of that. I told them I wasn't ready to go home but was ignored. I got home in terrible pain and still throwing up. The pain is 10 times worse when gagging, coughing or sneezing. I couldn't believe this was happening to me. I gave it about 3 weeks hoping I would feel better but I didn't so I tried calling the office to let them know what was happening to me I couldn't get through most of the time and when I did they said Dr. Solomon was on vacation and was unreachable so they transferred my call to another surgeon I explained my pain and she said I didn't have a mesh on my umbilical surgery that it was just sutures, which was a lie but at the time I didn't know so I said ok I need more time to heal, my stomach was so bloated it felt heavy, I looked like I was 9 months pregnant. The pain was really intense. It was a stabbing pain and burning sensation. It felt like my insides were being ripped apart. I needed help getting up for about 3 months I was sleeping on a recliner. Doing the normals tasks were impossible. The pain would just take over me, but I was patient. I'm a very patient person. Mind you I have 2 little kids at home with me and my husband took time off work with no pay for a month. My post op appointment was supposed to be on December 27th and they moved it up for January 13th through TELEMED! Who in the right mind gives out an appointment through telemed after surgery specially if one has been in such pain. How can you get checked properly? I tried to get one in person I begged them and they said that's not how Dr. Solomon does his appointments. It was very frustrating. I finally got to speak to him through my telemed appointment and let him know the pain I was in and he finally agreed to give me an appointment for in person. He tells me to take ibuprofen and the correct milligrams. Now my in person appointment in on January 19. They day before I start feeling some relief I'm able to walk more. I let him know on my appointment that I think I'm doing a bit better so we leave it at that. We give it more time but 2 weeks later I start feeling that severe pain on my stomach, I tried to get in contact with Dr. Solomon he's unreachable the receptionist tells me he's on vacation that she'll leave him a message and would call me back she never calls back so I keep calling and the same thing, she says she'll call me back and nothing on the next try she tells me that Dr. Solomon sent them a message for me to just take Tylenol and he's not sure when I'll feel better. I tried to get an appointment with him but they won't give it to me. It's unbelievable! I keep trying and nothing I called my insurance company and they called on my behalf urging them to give me an appointment and they do but a month from that day. But I can't wait that long so I keep trying to get a sooner appointment finally they give me an in person appointment. On my appointment he refers me some medication and a CT scan. He sees nothing wrong on the CT Scan and tells me to give it some time that I seem to be very sensitive when it comes to surgery and not to have kids again to avoid this type of surgery. I cried every day for about 5 months I had many anxiety attacks I think I was on the verge of depression. This was and still is the worst experience of my life. I'm still dealing with the pain from both hernia surgeries. It's gotten better but you would think after surgery one would feel no pain. That was the whole point of the surgery right? I regret not going to the ER early on maybe they could have seen something early on but I'm currently seeing other surgeons to see what they can do for me. read more

Typical surgeon getting upset when he found out I got a second opinion on a condition that my associate surgeon friend said needs urgent surgery . He actually said "please do not mention that surgeons name again, it's making me mad" and I responded "you are angry because I got a second opinion but still want you to work with him to solve this problem I have" and that's when he kicked me out . When we first met he was a bit stand-offish but that was because he needed to know how serious I was about the whole process and the time and work that would be needed on my part before the surgery. Making the commitment to drive to Torrance every other week, talking all kinds of blood test, EKG, sleep apnea study and also losing 10% or more of my body weight. The day of the surgery and the day after the surgery, he was so happy to see that I was doing well. I know now how much he wanted me to succeed. Dr Salomón was very rude to me, I felt that he had no respect for me, I don't want to see him again .

So disappointed. I came in to address chronic lower abdominal pain that I had been experiencing since April. Before even assessing me, he says that he doesn't know if it's fixable. I'm 21 years old and have always been extremely healthy up until this year. Hearing these words crushed me before we even began the assessment. He then goes on to say that an option is to take out my gallbladder to see if that helps me. He proceeds to make a joke that I might just be crazy and that the pain is all in my head. He said "just kidding" afterward but the sentiment stuck. He said I have a hernia, but then when I asked him how this might have happened, he said that everyone has hernias. I'm a journalism student so I can track a conversation well but he honestly was so unclear. However, he did make some helpful suggestions - such as getting labs done to examine my gallbladder and explaining that my abs are weak near my belly button which can attribute to pain. He wasn't completely unhelpful, however I will definitely be getting a second opinion from a different surgeon who isn't as rude and condescending as Dr. Solomon. read more

So I have been pretty heavy for some time now. A friend of mine from work had seen Dr. Solomon and had a bariatric surgery. He has been healthier and happier since then and has been encouraging me to do the same with Dr. Solomon. During this time another co-worker had gone to him and she also gave high recommendations on his practice. So I made the initial appointment in June of 2015. He and his staff have been really supportive and he took the time to answer many questions that I had. I had the Surgery in February of 2016 and it has been nothing but amazing the transformation I have gone through. Dr. Solomon does not hold back on what he expects of you and is supportive for you to reach the fullest potential of the surgery. I had my surgery by him. It's been 6 months since surgery, 1 year since I started my journey. (My insurance needed 6 months of preauthorization.) I lost a THIRD of my weight. That means, take me, one and HALF of me now is what I was before! The doctor wouldn't let me cheat, I wanted the surgery after a month or two, I was willing to pay $10-15k... Said he'd decline. Wow, the guy truly cares! Last note, my scars, oh, I mean, what scars? My cousin who is a very skilled surgeon said "for him to do it the way he did, it's like he tied his shoelaces, WITH CHOPSTICKS! Dr. Solomon is the best out there, he preformed gastric sleeve surgery on me in October 2014, my scars are barley visible, I had no complications, and have no issues since the surgery. His staff was always helpful, the waiting room can get. Little busy but they seem to have a very efficient system in place. I visited Dr. Solomon's office on a Monday after my primary doctor ordered an ultrasound and a CT scan with contrast, both on the previous Friday, when I complained of severe pain below my ribs, right above where my lap band (5 years in, empty for the past year) is located, as well as skin sensitivity over the area (sudden onset, lasting 3 days). My scans returned normal, and she suspected it was likely related to my lap band and advised me to see a bariatric surgeon ASAP. Over the weekend (before I could contact Dr. Solomon's office for an appointment), my pain worsened substantially, and I went to the ER at UCLA, where they did a chest x-ray, but again saw nothing of concern. The two ER physicians said the symptoms pointed to a lap band problem, admittedly beyond their level of familiarity. On Monday, I contacted Dr. Solomon's office, and was told he was on call all week, and unable to see me. I was in a lot of pain, so I proceeded to call other doctors to see if anyone else could see me, when his office finally called me back in the afternoon and told me I could come in. Dr. Solomon was flippant, rude, and did not even bother to review the scans I brought (at his office's request) because he said he "didn't need to", insisting that my symptoms couldn't have been related to the lap band, and I probably had a "cracked rib". The chest x-ray ruled out a cracked rib and my other scans ruled out the majority of other potential organ issues, but he was too arrogant to even try to help me. He repeated several times, "I don't know what you want me to do." He offered me pain meds to mask the pain, which I did not want - I wanted to find the cause. I asked him if an endoscopy would be possible just to make sure the band isn't eroding or perhaps had slipped; he refused both, but offered to "order a bunch of [other] tests if that would make me feel better". I walked out of his office angry and frustrated, after days of intense pain. I was able to see another bariatric surgeon the exact same day, who is very concerned about my band possibly having flipped vertically due to stomach stretching, and who is also further scoping my gallbladder. If you want a doctor who takes their time and listens to you, my advice is to find someone else; someone who is not rushed, and completely unwilling to explore possibilities and find the cause of your pain. I could not have been more disappointed or angry after seeing Dr. Solomon. Note, he was not the doctor who performed my surgery initially (I've since moved), but the refusal to even entertain the idea of a band failure tells me he is more concerned with charging for a visit than with seeing his patients comfortable. I had visited Dr. Solomon for a band adjustment on one prior occasion, and he was friendly and the appointment went very well. However, I scheduled that appointment only after his staff verified that they were in network and that the adjustment would be covered by my PPO. Once confirmed the adjustment was covered and in-network, they proceeded to bill me an astronomical amount, claiming it was not covered, and it took them 10 months to adjust the amount owed, as initially stated. This office is terribly disorganized, and unfortunately one of the few local to me who accepts Anthem Blue Cross. I would rather pay an out of network doctor for genuinely good care than visit this doctor again. When he was taking his Hippocratic oath, he must have been preoccupied; very unfortunate for his patients. read more

Doctor Solomon is an excellent & skilled Surgeon and a most professional & considerate doctor that I've met. He puts his patient's interest first. I met him in the ER with a badly ruptured appendix. Twice he recommended no surgery but ordered antibiotic for treatment and eventual recovery. From the very beginning, after viewing my CT scan which showed extensive inflammation in several organs, he chose the least invasive approach for treatment. Even though after 4 months my appendix wall showed signs of thickening, Dr. Solomon then recommended a laparoscopy for its removal, which was a total of 3-hour out-patient visit. The positioning of the laparoscopy incisions were strategic and small (Not visible if one wishes to wear a bikini), After two months the scars are almost unnoticeable. Had Dr Solomon operated on me during my ER visit (which is a common practice I later found out), my recovery would have been much, much more complicated - I would have had to wear a bag outside my body, stayed in the hospital, with a long recovery period. I was extremely nervous because I had never stayed in a hospital nor had any surgery due to illness (I am a healthy senior). In my every encounter with Dr Solomon he answered all my questions to my satisfaction. I found him to be very personable, assuring, kind and humorous at times. I have been coming to this office since 2012 when I began my process in weight loss surgery. The staff does an amazing job and making sure everything gets taken care of. Dr. Solomon is an amazing person but also a awesome doctor. He performed the lap band surgery in July of 2013 and everything went smoothly. I've lost 60 pounds since that surgery but I gained it all back because I went back to my old eating habits and stopped working out. After being in denial and gained back all my weight plus more I knew I had to do something because my health was getting worse. I went back to Dr. Solomon July of 2016 to get help for weight loss. Then in April of 2017 I had the gastric sleeve and everything has been good. I changed my eating habits to healthy food and exercise 5-6 days a week. I am down 150 pounds and couldn't be happier with my health. Dr. Solomon has never given up on me even when I failed myself. He believed in me even when I wasn't believing in myself. He has changed my life for the better and id love to do the same for others who are struggling with weight loss! We arrived at the ER with our 13yr old son with complications after abdominal surgery done elsewhere. We were scared, concerned and confused about what was going on with our son and how to get him better. We were lucky and were assigned Dr Solomon as the surgery consult. He took amazing care of us. Spent so much time explaining the options and how we should proceed in finding a cause and a solution for our son's complication. He was kind, compassionate, knowledgeable and most of all empathic. He made our son laugh in the midst of his high fever and pain. Very cool. No question was too much for us to ask. He did not rush out of our room and made sure we felt comfortable and that all of our concerns were addressed. Today marks the one-year anniversary of my gastric bypass surgery. I have been overweight my entire life yet had long resisted even the idea of a surgical approach to weight loss. At the urging of my primary care physician I attended an orientation that just happened to be presented by Dr. Houman Solomon, the surgeon who performed my surgery one year ago today. From the start, Dr. Solomon has been a very intelligent, gracious, witty, kind, and patient partner in this more than year long journey. His technical skills are matched by a reassuring bedside manner that put me at ease. He seemed never to be in a hurry, answering all my questions, both grave and silly. In this age of managed care, when patients can be made to feel like numbers, Dr. Solomon always spent a good bit of time with me during my appointments leading up to the surgery and those since. Dr. Houman Solomon performed abdominal surgery to correct a colovesical fistula that had formed (Google it, it's scary and painful..). I appreciated his calm, mellow confident demeanor. I was very nervous and even a bit scared about this surgery, but during the consult, where I peppered him with a zillion questions, he said something to me that really calmed me down: He calmly told me, "Hey, if I can't do this surgery, than it can't be done." LOL!!! On paper, this may sound cocky, even kind of arrogant... But he has the Credentials and Experience (even training other surgeons in performing his innovative laproscopic surgery techniques) to back all this up. And it showed big time in my speedy recovery and great follow up. My pain was minimal btw, mostly soreness at the incision sites. This man knows what he is doing!
