On 2/15, we went on our first vacation in 10yrs. We had trusted HA and chose to board our dog, Jasper, there. On 2/20, roughly 50 dogs of various sizes, ages, and breeds were let out together before bed. Reputable facilities separate dogs at least by size for what should be obvious reasons. We were assured that bigs and smalls were separated, important to us bc Jasper had never been around small dogs, except at size separated dog parks, where he rushed the fence toward the smalls - despite what the owners say, they were aware of this. On 2/20, Jasper was showing signs of distress. His distress signals were ignored and he allegedly lashed out at a 10lb, 16y/o dog(why was a tiny senior out with 49 other dogs?). There were only 2 employees monitoring, 1 in training. idk what happened to Jasper at this time. It took 45 minutes for the injured dog to get to the ER vet (AERC). He did not survive. I am so sorry for their loss. This is a horrific tragedy, which could have been avoided had the facility acted properly. My heart is broken for them. HA said they were going to review the footage they had. HA had also told us that we needed to contact AERC. Multiple AERC staff told us the same thing: This is not Jasper's fault. This happened due to the negligence of HA. They also told me that HA had approved treatment and accepted responsibility for all financials. The staff who took the dog to AERC were evasive when AERC asked what happened. I was never contacted by any eyewitness about this - after trying to get the story from the owners, I turned to social media, and only yesterday felt I finally had a semi-complete picture. The extensive footage claim is a lie. Whatever happened, happened in a blind spot. We had a friend pick up Jasper ASAP, concerned for his safety. I had emailed HA with this info, and also that I would not be paying, given the situation. Jasper was given to our friend, but they didn't ask her name, let alone check ID. They said it was fine for her to go without paying. The owners have since threatened to file a claim for this, saying that my dog was safe and well-cared for during his stay, which I dispute. The friend who picked him up said that Jasper was timid, shaky, exhausted, and had a subconjunctival hemorrhage in his L eye. W/o of signs of infection, this generally occurs because of trauma. I'll never know what happened. As of this writing, his eye is still healing. The owners claim that we didn't tell them about Jasper and needing separation with small dogs, that we refused to pay the hospital bill - all lies. Anita told me explicitly that HA policy was to separate by size, and she told AERC the same thing. But I have found that it's common for the owners to allow undertrained staff to monitor packs of 50-60 dogs. You can see it on the stream. On 2/21, I took several screenshots of a small dog out in the yard with several large dogs. No staff. This dog wasn't the first to die while under their care. This is the SECOND time something like this has happened (this was confirmed by public safety officer). I have submitted a report to several agencies and animal welfare orgs. I believe that HA endangers dogs and staff through patterns of negligence, bullying, and lack of training. I have been in communication with DVMs and other animal professionals about this situation. When Anita responds to this with more lies, I'd like you to know I have receipts. Jasper is a dopey, loving, playful, athletic hound. I have never seen him display an ounce of aggression - I have two children under 5. I am an experienced dog owner. I have never seen him act out because I have never put him in a position where his distress became overwhelming. HA doesn't train staff, nor do they take accountability when they make mistakes. This isn't the first dog to die in their care, but I think it should be the last. I also wanted to shout out HA employee Katie E. Thank you for posting that review publicly, online, and in writing. We boarded our dog here overnight. So glad it includes daycare during the day. You need to pick up your dog by noon or you are charged 1/2 a day. You fill out some forms and provide vax records. On their website they have 5 or 6 cameras with live feeds. The place looked clean. They had adequate staffing and a lot of dogs on a Sunday morning. It appeared they had green turf outside. There are metal sculptures and a concrete dog statue outside. The Hound Around sign is fading and maybe needs to be replaced. They add a zip tie tag to your harness with dog name and kennel number. Cost was $46.00 something and I rounded up to $50 and added a tip. Chose this location as others were booked during spring break. I also saw their billboard on 494. Would return in the future. read more

Unethical business practices (including no male staff with the exception of the owner's husband) due to allowing dogs with history of aggressiveness towards males. Absurd rates for the services provided. Baths, nail trims and other services that are usually offered with long-stay bookings are all "add on" options and are costly. There are no overnight staff and dogs are kenneled for eight plus hours. Having boarded my dog at another facility in Burnsville (for long term boarding during vacation trips), the rates Hound Around in comparison to other facilities that offer 24/7 staff, complementary grooming and additional perks are unreasonable. If you ever pass the business on highway 61; their obnoxious advertising sign consistently displays "NOW HIRING" because they cannot retain employees. Having personal connections to both current and former employees (I did not work there) I assure you they are not compensated well, are advised to underreport incidents between dogs (injuries/illness/aggression) and are treated poorly by management (the owner). There are not many options in the Cottage Grove area for boarding, but given the conditions at Hound Around; I'd recommend hiring someone privately as it would be less expensive and likely receiving more attention and care than paying for subpar care for a heavy, profit driven establishment. read more

If I could give less than 0 stars I would. I took my 13 week old Golden here. I was told he would be put in a room with dogs his size and slowly introduced. As we started watching the cameras my puppy was put in with large size adult dogs that just pummeled him and no human was anywhere to be found. This continued until we picked him up. Upon picking him up the unaware and incompetent woman at the front insisted he was having fun and had a good visit while we watched the camera behind her and again my puppy was getting pummeled. When receiving my puppy he was drenched? The nerve of them to say it was saliva when clearly he was soaked with a hose was extremely upsetting. My puppy was traumatized for 2 days. This is the worst daycare for dogs I have ever experienced. With no support from the owner I would not recommend this place to anyone who owns a pet. read more

I generally don't leave 'mixed review' posts, but am here. I already spoke with the business so they heard my feedback a couple weeks ago. First, the positive: my appointment was scheduled in a timely manner, they were responsive to my concerns, and did their best to help the situation. Also, They do great work- I have a Golden, I normally do a "full service groom" annually to clean up matted fur, etc. There was a miscommunication at the time the appointment was scheduled, and I did not understand that I was not scheduling a full service as I understood it to be (including trimming the wild hairs). After a protracted back-and-forth at the front counter at the time I dropped my dog off, in the end the work was done on time and they did some of the extra grooming at no additional cost. A happy ending, but I will think twice before I deal with the headaches next time. read more

The Carnivore has been a dog owner for a while now, and while he and Mrs. Carnivore do not like to leave them in the care of others any more than necessary, sometimes the need does arise. Hound Around Resort is a wonderful place of play, socializing, and apparently the occasional nap. Our dogs absolutely love it there, and go completely bonkers when their daycare bag is taken out. When dropping the dogs off, they can't wait to go play and meet new friends. Rest assured, that when you go to pick them up, they will be super happy to see you again! The dogs get plenty of playtime, plenty of water, and in the summer, there are shade and splash pools available. There is a great quantity of canine play equipment in the outside play area, and it is delightful to watch the dogs (ours and others) on the webcams. When you first want to take your dog to Hound Around Resort, there is an orientation that is required. The orientation is for your dog, not for you. Various vaccinations are required, which limit the incidence of illnesses and diseases being brought into this doggie wonderland. If upon completing his or her orientation period successfully, your dog is allowed to attend day care. Should you wish, there are many grooming services available for your dog while they are staying at the resort. Baths and nail trims are common for our dogs, and more involved services are also available. We have only used the boarding option once, but the experience was very good, and we would not hesitate to board our dogs again in the future, should circumstances require it. Bottom line, if you have a dog, and that dog needs a place to stay for the day, or overnight, this is absolutely a place to consider. Prices are very reasonable, and I have never seen a dog being dropped off that was not happy to be there. read more

I don't think i have ever written a poor review. We have taken our dogs here a couple of times and were always skeptical cause they don't check any paperwork or make you feel comfortable, its mainly just a transaction for them. I kept checking webcams during our last visit and couldn't find one of my dogs for a while, i finally called and had to ask them where he was and they had to go find out & they said him and another dog weren't getting along so they needed to be separated & they would be switched off . They hardly were and i kept having to call to see where he was (he's friendly) , my dog came home with bloody scabs around his eye and never once did they call or even tell me when we were there on what happened & i didn't discover bite mark till we got home. And Both my dogs ended up getting horrible kennel cough! I hate to leave a horrible review but i will not return here. Dog mama came out and i just want my pups to be safe and comfortable read more

Our 7 year old Golden Retriever attends here MWF for Daycare and he comes home with a smile on his face and his tail wagging. We recently had to board Calvin and our 18 year old Himalayan PC Prince Charming, I was very concerned how this would go with his special diet and need to be warm. We have taken our older dog there since she was a puppy and we couldn't have asked for a better place to take her! No complaint! we started taking our younger dog here recently and it's been overall okay. One thing I have to say is that our puppy is 6 months old. He is a male and sometimes hump other dogs. I was watching The camera and saw him being led away from the play room and he wasn't put back in for hours after ( I called at this point and had to ask for him to be put back in). I was told he needed to be seperated for him humping another dog. But while my dog was separated I was watching other dogs hump and hump each other. Im not very happy with paying $30 for my dog to not be able to play while other dogs are playing doing the same thing he got in trouble for. read more

My wheaten terrier, Willow, was groomed here today. Due to some serious health problems over the last couple of months, she was long overdue for a groom and was looking extra shaggy! The groomer at Hound Around Resort did an amazing job of grooming Willow. The groomer was also extremely friendly and personable - I am an anxious dog mom and felt at ease as soon as I met her. I would highly recommend Hound Around Resort for grooming and will definitely be bringing my Willow back for her next groom. read more

I have never written a review before for anything. But I just have to everyone a head up not to board your small dogs at this facility. I have 2 small dogs and had them there for 2 weeks while we were on a family vacation. When I picked them up I was horrified at how bad they smelled and how dirty they were. I had to give them a bath as soon as I got home with them. I noticed right away that my yorkie who only weighs 4 pounds was nothing but a bucket of bones. It as as if she did not eat the whole time she was there. I understand that dogs might not eat very well when they are left in a strange but this was beyond that. I called and talked with the owner she seemed to be a little irritated with me when I asked her if my dog was eating at all when she was there. She told me she personally feeds the dogs herself when she is there which is about 5 days a week. But at the end of our conversation she asked me if maybe my other dog could have been eating her food. I told her that very well could be but I was not there to watch so therefore I did not know. I did bring them to the vet the very next day and my yorkie only weighed 2 pounds and she weighed exactly 4 pounds when I dropped her off because I had her at vet right before I brought them because they needed a health certificate. I think they do great for people who have larger dogs but not so good for smaller dogs. I just wish they would not advertise that they have a new place at the facility for smaller dogs or I would not have brought them there. Amy R. read more

We have been boarding our dogs here for 4 years; most recently this weekend. We have a new rescue dog named Pippin who is beagle/jack russel terrier mix and just 16 lbs. We had him go to Hound Around a few weeks ago for doggie day care with our other beagle, Odie. They had a very good experience and since it was a cold day the staff put a sweater on Pippin. This past weekend "our boys" stayed at Hound Around for the entire weekend. They had another good experience and the staff sweatered Pippin for his outdoor jaunts. It was fun to check in on the doggie webcam over the weekend and see our boys socializing with the other dogs and being active in all the rooms--indoor and out. Even though there are other boarding places closer to our home, we stick with Hound Around because of the great care our dogs always receive. We always request that they get baths and nail trims before pick up too so the boys smell wonderful. They were both sacked out on the couch all evening after their epic doggie winter retreat at Hound Around! Thank you staff. read more

Hound around is wonderful! I was very nervous to leave my Maltese here the first time, she was 8 and had never been boarded before. She's 9 now and has stayed many times. Not only is it apparent that she loves it there but they obviously care about all of the dogs, too. They have even helped to socialize her, yesterday was the first time I allowed her to be completely socialized and she loved it! If I could give more than 5 stars I certainly would. read more

Hound Around is a fantastic place both for daycare and their grooming services are great. Reasonable prices for both. I had my two dogs groomed a couple of weeks ago and they looked great. The groomer made sure to use the special shampoo I sent along for my pup with allergies. I never have to worry when they are there for daycare.
