I heard about Debra and sent off an email to her describing my situation and we were able to work out a time to meet and to discuss the project. On our first meeting I knew she was the one that could help me with all the organizing and packing that was necessary! We worked together at the house for a week and I knew I had made the right choice a she was so incredibly helpful and fun to work with. I had about 1,000 DVDs to sell and she boxed everything up and brought it all down to sell at Rasputens and also made several trips to the Good Will. She was also great for referrals around town on the more expensive things I decided to sell. I also brought her to my apartment and she completely organized my kitchen IN ABOUT AN HOUR! Not only did Debra help me with all the organizing and packing of a large home, she developed a budget for the remodel and put together a working binder to keep everything organized. Now that I'm into the remodel I use this everyday! Debra was my angel that helped so much when I was getting to my wits end. I'm planning a move this summer and I plan on using her services again. I've told all of my friends and family how great it was to work with In A Good Space and I can't recommend Debra enough!

I recently downsized to a significantly smaller apartment and was really struggling with trying to figure out how I was going to fit all the things I needed to access into my tiny space. I was totally stuck although I consider myself a pretty organized person. Leah was able to immediately get started the moment she walked in, and she asked me thoughtful questions and THEN suggested ways to organize my belongings in such a way that would actually work with how I function. I made more progress in the 2 hours I worked with her then I had made on my own in two weeks !!! It was a totally collaborative process, if she suggested something I didn't think would work for me she was quick to offer several other solutions. And I think because she asked smart questions and put together something that really worked for ME it has been really easy for me to keep up with my new system and put things back where they belong. Also, I wasn't expecting this, but she helped me swap out and re-arrange some furniture (even trudged down with me to my basement storage area to pick out a different side table for an awkward spot) and gave me some advice on where to hang some art. Her personality was great - she was friendly but very to the point and straight forward. She definitely kept us moving forward, and I was appreciative that she seemed very conscious of the fact that I wanted to keep our hours down. I really can't recommend her highly enough - if it weren't for her I would still be living out of boxes and boo-hoing to myself about my micro-spot. Instead I am feeling settled in my new home. Leah helped me organize my kitchen, bedroom and closet and 4 months later my place is still orderly and clean! Not only did she have creative suggestions on optimizing my space, she has a real eye for design. My kitchen has exposed shelves and she had creative and fun suggestions for displaying some of my kitchen goods (and I get compliments all the time on her set up). Leah is incredibly resourceful and was able to use a lot of the organizing tools (bins, hooks and racks) that I already had to set up my closet and bedroom. She also helped me prioritize the top purchases I needed to make and I must say those purchases have made all the difference. She helped me arrange my bedroom/living room which is always the tricky part of living in a studio. She was patient and even moved some of my furniture and art around until we found a set up that worked really well. She had great suggestions on new furniture pieces that are ideal for small spaces like a bench at the end of my bed that can be used for storage and an extra seat when guests come over. Leah really exceeded my expectations. Not only is she incredibly knowledgable and creative, she has a real eye and I feel like I got a personal organizer and interior decorator all in one! One even followed the other around and didn't work solidly. Then they charged me 5 hours ($105) worth of time. Needless to say I was disappointed and will never be going back. I also found areas that definitely were dusty and definitely not cleaned. For a $105, I expect things to shine.

Needless to say, I won't be hiring New Dimensions again. Here's why: Experience #1: I called ND and requested service two to three days in advance, setting up an appointment at 9 a.m. on a Friday. The woman showed up over an hour late, seriously screwing up my fiancé's day. (He had remained at the apartment to let her in.) When I called to complain, the rep at ND told me that the woman had experienced bus delays and didn't have a cell phone to let anyone know. My thought was a) as a professional, you should account for bus delays to ensure you show up on time, and b) that ND should provide cell phones to its employees if transportation woes are an issue. Beyond that, ND offered me nothing in terms of compensation but promised better service next time. On the bright side, my apartment was spotless when the woman left. Experience #2: A couple of months and a new apartment later, I called back to again hire ND and request the specific lady my friend uses. The ND rep scheduled her for an 8 a.m. start and mentioned that people say she's rather loud ... Miss C. showed up at my apartment 20 minutes early--better than an hour late but awkward when you're barely out of the shower (or still in it, as in my fiancé's case). Upon surveying my cleaning supplies (almost exclusively Method), Miss C. went on and on (loudly) about how I didn't have the correct products--specifically 409 and Pine Sol--and said she would do her best but wouldn't be able to really clean our place properly without them. And when she discovered we don't have a vacuum, she again erupted about not being able to get into corners and so forth. (Our apartment is all tile and hardwood.) I had assumed that, being a professional housekeeper, she would have intimate knowledge of both a broom and a dust pan. Instead, she continued to mutter about not having access to a vacuum. I left Miss C. and her helper to do their thing, and upon my return, the apartment appeared clean on the surface. I mentioned that it smelled clean, and she again came at me with the attitude about having to make do with, in her mind, inferior products. I paid her so she would leave. Then, I started my inspection (which I probably should have done before paying her) and started noticing things like little rings of mildew still behind faucet handles and around drains. I found a cobweb in one bookshelf and the bottom shelf of another bookshelf completely undusted. Also, a bunch of dust and dirt under my bed. I also recleaned and scrubbed our range top because it looked like she had done only a sloppy onceover. What it came down to, in my mind, was that she didn't like my products and therefore decided to do a half-assed job. When I'm paying $100 for a cleaning service, I expect it to be AT LEAST as good as the job I would do and, in fact, better. The work was inferior, and the attitude was insufferable.

The place is large. 3bd, 2ba, 1800+ sq ft. Mind you it is empty but that's a lot to cover. What I didn't realize is that 3 women came armed with a wide array of cleaning supplies. I told them they didn't have to vacuum since I was getting the carpet cleaned a few hours later, but they vacuumed up the dust and debris they had collected from swiping every crevice. They went right to work, cleaning all the normal stuff. What impressed me was all the little things they cleaned without my direction, from window sills to the oven grill and pans the laundry closet around the sides of the washer/dryer. They had a telescoping broom made specifically to dust the corners of the wall/ceiling. They even cleaned the light fixtures in the dining room and the lightbulbs. I needed a receipt so she rushed out to get one for me before they were done. I am still taken aback at how efficient they were. I was running around doing last cleanup and even taking work calls, but they were not annoyed or fazed by me. It took them about 2.5 hours and the cost was $140. For that level of quality service, I think that is phenomenal. Keep in mind prices may vary as this place was completely empty. I heard she does most of the Peninsula, so I will definitely refer her to people. Moving out is always stressful and usually somewhat melancholy or bittersweet. I really appreciate Sylvia's work and attitude in making this easy and hassle-free.
