Roberto and his team arrived right on time and had our condo loaded incredibly quickly. Even though we didn't have any boxes containing fragile items, they treated every piece of furniture with great care, carefully wrapping everything in moving blankets and plastic wrap before loading it. It was clear they took pride in protecting our belongings. They arrived at our new apartment on schedule and placed every piece of furniture exactly where we wanted it without any issues. From start to finish, including the drive across the Bay, the entire move took about four hours--roughly two hours faster than we expected. Really enjoyed working with this company. I originally planned to move from an apartment to a condo, but last minute changed my plan as the condo was not move in ready yet. So I had to do a 2 part move and I used Jay's Small Moves for both! We did an apartment to storage unit then a storage unit to condo move within 2 weeks. For both moves, there were 2 guys each with 1 truck, and they were fast/efficient and polite/professional! Got the move done both times in under 2 hours. Also really appreciate George, who I spoke with on the phone a few times and was helping me with the 2 separate moves and quotes. I was moving end of June/early July so it was a really busy time since it was around the holiday. George helped fit me in, and also gave me a really reasonable quote. We used Jay's small moves to move from a 3rd story, 3 bedroom condo in SF to a single family home 10 minute drive away. Total time= 6h (fully packed, furniture disassembled, but needed to be blanket-packed and wrapped). Jay's team of 5, lead by Brian, was extremely efficient, professional, and affordable. They hoisted furniture out of there like nothing was heavy even though all the furniture was made of solid wood. No dents or scratches even going down very narrow winding staircases. All the glass, mirror, and fragile items made it in one piece without any damage. They placed all the furniture and boxes where it needed to be and cleaned up every bit of packing material. For such a big move, everything went extremely smoothly. I would hire them again for other small jobs and highly recommend them to anyone doing their search Ps, feed your workers + make sure they are well energized! The movers from Jay's Small Moves were professional, efficient, and went above and beyond to be careful with our belongings with many flights of stairs, disassembling and reassembling when needed. They carefully and amply wrapped furniture for protection where needed. We had some random stuff in bags from when we ran out of boxes, which they proceeded to pack into boxes of their own (and unpack on the other end!), making sure there was no unnecessary work left over for us. We had many recommendations from friends to go with Jay's Small Moves, and we're so glad we did. Not sure how I drew the short end of the stick with this one... I hired Jay's Small Moves for a packing job only. I had alternative plans for the moving portion. My packers came on time and ready to go and finished in close to the quoted time. That's where the positiives end. I needed help due to physical limitations and I feel like I've been taken for a ride. Everything I owned had been haphazardly shoved into boxes with minimal padding (and in some cases, my own clothing used as padding). Things were sloppily labeled and it took me weeks to wort thru all of the boxes labeled vaguley (i.e. "Closet Stuff", "Kitchen") with no further indication of what was actually in most boxes. My laptop was shoved into a box without padding and pressed against the cardboard. It's now dented and wont turn on. Empty boxes from the pantry and essentially trash had been packed away, even though I requested no perishables or open items be packed. Items of note that were thrown into a box without care/packaging: - glass scale - my MacBook Pro (not functioning anymore) - culinary spray bottle (broke) - dirty pans from the stove (I requested these be left on the stove for future use) - matching shoes in DIFFERENT boxes - various office/computer electronics (jostling around, no padding) I still need to do a full audit of damages caused by careless packaging, but just the laptop and immediately noticeable damaged office equipment is thousands of dollars of damage. So the realtively affordable packing job costed me much more than anticipated in damages, time, and overall effort. If you hire these guys, you'll need to watch them like a hawk and I pray you're not disadvantaged in a way they think they can take advantage of. read more

The movers showed up on time and SWIFTLY moved my 20 self packed bins, disassembled a bed frame, took my old desk and chair for recycling, beat me to the new address and got me moved in with the bed reassembled in 2 hours COLD! Added bonus: the move came to just over 500.00 for a move from El Cerrito to Oakland. A few years ago, Starving Students did the reverse move in 5 hours and charged me more than double. Above and beyond what I expected! Booking to completion of the project was a breeze. Organized and efficient. The team (Jose, Pepe, and Oscar) treated the move as if it were for a loved one- everything was packed and unloaded with care. We used Jay's to move furniture, household items and backyard stuff from my mothers-in-law to our home. The communication with the team from our first outreach to them finishing the job was outstanding. Along the way we added things to be moved, as will as took advantage of their haul away service. The team called when they where getting close to the pickup location and arrived on time. While they were quick, they took the time and care to make sure all the items were safely prepared for the move across town. They worked nonstop and then did a final walk through with us to make sure that they had put everything into the specific rooms we wanted. Another 5-star move by Jay's Small Moves. While this was the largest and more complicated local move of the 5 times I have retained them as our movers, they exceeded our expectations. The crew of 5 and two trucks showed up on time and flawlessly worked together as a team, communicating extremely well with each other and us throughout the process. They carefully wrapped antique furniture, handled everything with care and remained thoughtful about planning and placement throughout the process. We had a furniture layout of our new place. Jay's moving crew: Brian, Eduardo, Luis, & Avelino are excellent. All great guys to communicate with, helpful, cautious, friendly, and quick. They anticipated issues before they occurred and thought of stuff that I hadn't considered. Brian was easy to work with, he has a great demeanor and communication skills. He unfortunately was injured at no fault of his own during the job and had to leave for medical attention but was very good natured throughout the circumstance. I was impressed how quickly his back up Eduardo arrived in minutes and seamlessly stepped in to lead the move. Luis and Avelino are fast, smart, hard workers and dealt with the extensive stairs up to my apartment without hesitation. The dispatcher who set up the appointment could improve upon communication because although it was double checked when scheduling, there was confusion on packing service and materials that led to a discrepancy. Jay's generously made it right, though, and after a little delay to work things out, we were still able to move on time and the team rolled with the inconvenience. I was impressed they didn't double down on the miscommunication and cancel the move as some companies might have. I assumed the high price they quoted me would equal high level of service given the reviews but I wish I would have gone with one of the many cheaper options- couldn't have been much worse. Although nice enough folk, the way they packed light items under heavy items into the storage unit has me worrying for the day I have to see what condition it is in. Professional movers, if nothing else, should know how to properly stack boxes and furniture based not just on shape but also weight. read more

Great company for a seamless move! I recently moved and reserved Jay's Small Moves for the trek. Communication: Lots of emails (better to over-communicate though than hear nothing) and calls. I appreciated that they wanted to make sure of everything. They did unfortunately somehow get my address wrong, which we luckily caught during the final call the morning of. Movers: Joe and Ru took care of everything and were great! They brought the necessary tools to bring everything down from my apartment to their truck (boxes, dollys, tape, furniture covers, etc.). They were also super nice and made sure to ask where everything went rather than just dumping it inside. There was a slight hiccup where two of my items were left on the truck, but it was easy to get a hold of them to locate the items and get them back right away. Super appreciative of this!
