Great selection of new and vintage comics. Shop is a good size for a comic store and they have your new comics on hand , whether if it's Marvel , DC, or independent comics. Of course the best time to go to make sure they have it in stock are Wednesdays. VIntage comics can be found in bins, the wall, or the front case near the register. CGC slabs are also on hand. Prices are usually on par with the market. Just ask Paul and the rest of the crew for anything you need, they're pretty knowledgeable and willing to help. Comic supplies are also available for those in need. Parking is limited to street parking and the surrounding residential area, but it's never too far a walk. Although I consider myself an artist and a creative; the skillset of drawing and illustrative art eludes me. Even though I am not the one to call on when wanting to have your likeness sketched; I do appreciate the art of drawing and am drawn (pun intended) to individuals who are illustrators/artists/etc. These people, although NOT comic book nerds (I draw the line at that -another pun!) can delineate quality comic books, graphic novels and art books. My boyfriend, who is an esteemed Hollywood 3D animation artist with a long list of credits to his name (so proud of him!); is an artist inside and out and we recently followed our curiosity into House of Secrets: comic book/graphic novel/collectibles shop in Burbank. House of Secrets is a 35+ year old local business originally holding down the fort in La Canada-Flintridge before its current real estate at the corner of Olive and Lamer not far from the Warner Bros Studio lot. From the exterior, House of Secrets looks like a regular ole' storefront but it lives up to its moniker because its doors truly open to an immersive art-filled comic book store that is unlike many I have seen (not that I have been to THAT many). House of Secrets has the vibes akin to the coolest record store you can imagine with a main room filled with bins and shelves of comic books, graphic novels and other art books from rare and back copies to modern-day releases all beautifully organized and tidy making any OCD-afflicted individual (me) overjoyed. House of Secrets is a world of color and print and even supplements the actual merchandise stock with posters on the ceiling and laminated into the floor tiles. Every inch of House of Secrets is a work of art. But if that isn't enough, House of Secrets features side rooms giving it an art gallery vibe with even more comics/books plus art from local artists for sale. Frankly, House of Secrets is 'cool' even for someone like me who isn't a comic book nerd and not a part of the world of graphic novels due to it being an art paradise. House of Secrets is an experience that is interesting to check out simply for the ambiance. The customer service at House of Secrets is also top-tier as my boyfriend who knows a little more about the merch sold at the shop than I do; asked for a particular piece and the gentleman working (I am assuming one of the owners) immediately had answers and knew what he was talking about which was also reflected when overhearing him answer other customer's questions. Plus, he wasn't annoyed that we were hanging in the store near closing time! I've noticed that I often feel very uncomfortable in specialty niche stores especially if out of my hobby element but somehow felt fine at House of Secrets. They are welcoming and friendly to all who enter their threshold. I can't comment on the pricing at House of Secrets and whether they overcharge or excel in this aspect as well because I do not know enough about the products to even remotely know proper pricing. Word on the streets is that House of Secrets also holds events and author signings! House of Secrets is an incredible local Burbank business that is exceptional for comic book lovers but also 'fun' for those who may be lesser so; but appreciate art and print. I'm a big fan of comics and like to check out all that Southern California has to offer. I like certain shops for certain things, but what I like about HOS is it has a little bit of everything I need. They feel like the kind of shop you would see in a 90s movie. It's classic: new issues, back issues, trade paperbacks, folks behind the counter who will discuss comics and know what they're talking about. I dig diving through back issues, but that is a dying part of the hobby. With digital or trade paperbacks, stocking back issues isn't always the most economical for shops. House of Secrets has that covered in spades. Not only do they have an insane collection of wall books, but they also have an extensive back issue bin as well as discount dollar books in the back to help fill in gaps. If that wasn't enough, there's a side room with hundreds of bundled collections of story arcs that are priced to move. Low risk, high reward. That alone is enough to keep me coming back to any shop, but sometimes a trade paperback IS what you need and House Of Secrets has thousands in stock. If not, and it's still in print, they can likely get it to you by the following Wednesday. Speaking of Wednesday, they always have a line waiting outside on new comic day, because they're fully stocked on all that week's books. I'm not as into variants as some, but it's still nice to have that as an option. Feels like a lot of shops pull them aside to sell online for the highest price possible. I also like that the folks working there clearly read comics and have for some time. Anytime I need a recommendation, or help understanding a recent storyline, these nerds are always there to help. My only complaint is they wont sell me that amazing life sized Doom bust. read more

This is hands-down the best comic book shop in the Los Angeles area if not all of SoCal! The shop itself is well-organized, with an impressive selection of everything from popular new releases to rare back issues and indie titles. There's also an awesome collection of collectibles and merch, so it's truly a paradise for any comic fan. And all their stuff is priced not only fairly, but cheaper than you can find anywhere. Especially the high-end gold and silver age titles (and they have a lot of heavy hitters!) What sets this place apart, though, is the sense of community the team fosters. They know their regulars, offer insightful conversations about different series and are always down to help you find a new favorite or track down something rare. What a remarkably beautiful icon of a comic store. From the floors, to the ceiling, from all the way and back to the entry, it's a smorgasbord for the senses of an enthusiast. On display were several rare comics. One of which was a #1 Mystery in Space from April-May of 1951, $5999! The grading must be about 9.1? At any rate they didn't have what I was looking for. I could special order it... But as I mentioned to he who i presume was the owner, I prefer to wander in and just find it somewhere. Too easy to just order and wait. Paul has the absolute best looking store out there and Leland is always a great help and ready with an honest take on what the best new books and series are. The first time i came here the whole experience was great. The guy who checked us out was really nice and knowledgeable. Today when we came back a different employee with a beard was working. I had placed three comics on preorder and when i asked for them he pulled out one. I politely mentioned I placed 3 on hold and he responded belligerently "I dont know i didnt read it". Settled and just grabbed the other issues off the shelf to avoid another off-putting response. Then checking out, I asked if he could give me some comic book sleeves. He proceeded to give me a snarky ass play by play of the interaction-"Well when I asked you earlier you said no you already had some". I must have misheard him originally, but was 100% apologetic. Ok, wowza. This comic book store is THEE comic book store as far as I'm concerned. I stopped by here when I was in the area, but I'll definitely be making trips up here from Orange County! They have everything you want! The selection is HUGE & DIVERSE!! I just happened to be in Burbank & when I looked up comic stores in the area & House of Secrets just happened to be a mile away so I popped in to see if i could track down a couple of back issues on an ongoing series that has been sold out at all the comic book stores in my area (Orange County) & not only did I find them, but I stayed in here for literally 3 hours just perusing the shelves and taking in the environment and that was NOWHERE near enough time!!! It's one of those places that makes you want to spend millions of hours AND dollars!!!The vibe is so cool, they have so many beautiful editions & posters & covers & issues, the decor makes you feel like you're walking thru a magical comic funland!! Whoever owns this store obviously loves comics & has made the shopping experience truly special. This is the sort of place that I'd be happy to turn over my hard earned $$ to! I have an ongoing list of things I want to track down, a lot of which are older OOP editions & more obscure independent titles, but instead of going thru my list I wound up spending the time just looking thru the shelves, pulling things, looking them up on Goodreads, etc which is my favorite thing to do as I'm fairly new to comics and am always looking for new series to get into having read mostly standalone graphic novels (My Friend Dahmer,& We Stand on Guard) until recently. So being given the time and space to browse & not being made to feel like they're annoyed by my browsing is HUGE, bc a lot of comic stores have that very distinct This-is-not-a-bookstore-pick-out-ur-comics-&-go vibe. This was the complete opposite of that, this place encourages browsing & gives you plenty to look at!!! If you enjoy browsing, give yourself adequate time bc their inventory is insane! I could have EASILY spent an entire day in here, not only do they have the best selection that I've seen in any comic book store between OC & the valley but they also carry special editions & Omnibuses, & they had a great selection of older stuff too!! I BARELY managed to make a dent in my browsing, I didn't even make it through 1/3 of their inventory! The guy who was working there was really cool, like I said I often don't feel like I can browse in comic book stores bc in certain stores the employee will hover, especially when I'm the only person in the store, & they often manage to give off a vibe that browsing & perusing is not welcome, but this was not the case here at at all. He let me sit on the floor & sift thru their shelves & titles & kept to himself unless asked, but was approachable & helpful when he WAS asked. Sometimes employees give off an intimidating vibe to a novice reader like me, but he had a cool, easy going demeanor & was approachable & made staying in here for hours easy!!! I've been a fan of the Marvel & DC movies for a long time & have been wanting to jump into the comics but am intimidated by the vastness ( the # of characters, runs, crossovers, teams, "events," & histories) I've been hoping to find a store with friendly, knowledgable & approachable employees that I can ask for a lil help & guidance, & I think I've found a place I can feel comfortable doing that! I'm already planning on going back next week after I get my paycheck & putting aside several hours to spend in here browsing & going thru my list!! I also thought the prices were really fair & on par with the norm & what's reasonable. I've often found that a lot of the stores in LA, &/or any larger, nicer store often will have an upcharge added to everything just to keep the doors open, but I didn't find that to be the case here. They had small comic book store prices but a large comic book store selection & specialty comic book store diversity. This place was amazing, I loved it in here so much & am just so glad I just happened to stumble across this awesome place, the outside is so unassuming unless I knew to look for it I'd have missed it! House of Secrets is over an hour from where I live, but I already know I'll be making the trip regularly! I walk in and ask for some help and he lets out a loud sigh and then I ask if they have a specific comic and tells me if you don't see it it's not there. When I go to checkout, I say I'm paying card and then he sees I have Apple Pay and sarcastically goes "you said card." "Now you have to tap over here." It bothers me to update my review with a negative vibe but I have to keep it real. I love this comic shop, been coming here for many years, and Paul, when he's there, is the nicest and most helpful guy. The other guy? Not so much...actually not at all. Zero hospitality at all, zero effort. Last time I walked in and he couldn't be bothered to look up and say welcome, or "let me know if you need any help" or any usual politeness. And again, it's not like he's never seen me before (even if I was brand new, all the more reason to put your best foot forward with a customer), I've been there so many times and spend a nice chunk of change every time I go. Not a word until he rings you up and even then he's just not nice. One time he was totally cool, and I bought things based on his recommendations, but that was an anomaly, most of the time he's on the grumpy/unapproachable side and I kinda feel like leaving before I even start to browse. Just not the kind of vibe you would hope for At your local mom and pops comic store, where I would prefer to give my patronage and support. But with an attitude like this, makes me want to just go somewhere else or order online. Wow, came here a few different times the past few months and always got either a weird vibe or never got any type of customer service. I came in on a weekday and inquired about a particular comic they carried, and got a attitude from one of the gentleman behind the counter when I inquired about this particular series. Now I know why I never cared about coming here. I use to come around and purchase comics in mid 2000's service was cool and never felt as if i was bothering or vibed on. Seeing all these rave reviews makes me wonder how if they were bought off. I am the type to support independent owners, but when I feel a vibe or attitude for no reason.
