Matthew's Plumbing has done some work for us before, a PRV and a water heater replacement. I had…read morethem come today to check for a leak which I was pretty sure didn't exist. The city of Raleigh refuses to check their water meter or replace it without an invoice from a plumber. Our water bill was higher than usual the last few months. I did a toilet leak test and found no leaks. Nothing else on the property showed a leak. I called the water department and they were less than helpful. Despite our bill going DOWN after turning ON our sprinkler system, they insisted there was a leak. Matthew's Plumbing sent two guys out who listened to the story, checked the meter as I did, checked the crawl space (no leaks) and listened to me complain about the water department. I was expecting to pay $200+, instead they only charged me $75. These people are honest. I was upset enough that I would have paid the $200 or more had they asked me to do so. Today's visit is why I'll keep doing business with them.

Water gushing through the ceiling to the lower level, my husband called several other places advertised as 24/7 emergency plumbing services - they were NOT 24 hour services. No people on call, no answers, or answers of 2pm or next day appointments. (Gotta love that!) We finally found Michael at Big Dawg's and he was able to come to us swiftly. He arrived within the window of time promised. Michael quickly and expertly assessed the situation, diagnosed the problems, and proceeded to share the plan. He had all the parts with him on his truck and had the busted toilet fill valve along with a new shut off valve replaced and working within an hour or so. Michael also took the time to educate us on what was happening, why, and other repairs needed to prevent further damage. Big Dawg's plumbing is efficient, professional, reliable, and comes with my highest recommendation. We hired NC Water Heaters / NC Home Remodeling to do a number of electrical, plumbing, and…read morecarpentry repairs on our house and it has been an extremely frustrating process to deal with them. Overall we had a number of issues with the quality of work and felt that we were overcharged when we saw the final product of what they did. It was not all bad, and specifically we felt that the electrician they sent was very helpful and did a great job. However, the problems that we had completely soured our opinions of NC Home Remodeling and we would not recommend them to anyone. The first issue was that they did an extremely sloppy job filling in the grout on our brick steps to the point that they had to send out people multiple times to try and clean up the job. We were told that the worker who messed up the job was let go which made us question why inexperienced people were being sent out to do jobs that they didn't know how to do. Additionally, when installing a new toilet, we realized after the job was done that the toilet that was installed was too big and no longer allowed the bathroom door to close. I don't know how the plumber missed this, but we had to get them back out to switch the toilets around. We also had them quote installing a railing in our attic, which they originally quoted at $850.00. When we saw the final product all they had done was drill a 2x4 to the wall and attach a piece of lattice to the side of the steps. The cost of materials must have been less than $50, taken less than an hour to install, and looks extremely amateurish. I have pictures attached, it looks terrible, the 2x4 isn't even sanded, doesn't go the full length of the stairs, and is nothing like what we expected. I emailed them about it and they said that they decided to go a different route from the original estimate and dropped the price to $400.00. I don't know if they would have dropped the price if we hadn't said anything, but if I had known this was the level of carpentry they were going to do I would have just done it myself. There were several other things we had to go back and forth on to make sure the work was actually done which just made it an exhausting process. We were billed $800.00 for a painter who was at the house for 1 hour and didn't paint two of the areas he was supposed to do, so they only dropped it down to $650.00 only after we pressed them on it. They also billed $250.00 for gutter cleaning which was never done, so we had to point that out and get them to take it off the invoice. I know that this company is mainly a water heaters company and I am guessing that they branched out to home remodeling because there is a high demand for the work, but it seems like they overextended themselves and do not have people who know what they are doing in this field. We will not work with them again and I would suggest that you look elsewhere for home remodeling work.

The same employee installed a drain pan under my washer. That employee left a large dent in the front of the washer and somehow damaged the rods inside. I had to hire an appliance repair company to fix the washer (almost $300). NC Water Heaters did deduct this from my bill. They evaluated a light switch that was noted in the inspection report. This 5 minutes cost me $85 even though the employee did nothing!
