Matthew's Plumbing has done some work for us before, a PRV and a water heater replacement. I had them come today to check for a leak which I was pretty sure didn't exist. The city of Raleigh refuses to check their water meter or replace it without an invoice from a plumber. Our water bill was higher than usual the last few months. I did a toilet leak test and found no leaks. Nothing else on the property showed a leak. I called the water department and they were less than helpful. Despite our bill going DOWN after turning ON our sprinkler system, they insisted there was a leak. Matthew's Plumbing sent two guys out who listened to the story, checked the meter as I did, checked the crawl space (no leaks) and listened to me complain about the water department. I was expecting to pay $200+, instead they only charged me $75. These people are honest. I was upset enough that I would have paid the $200 or more had they asked me to do so. We got TWO leaks: one busted pipe and one improperly installed water filter (screwed on badly, constant dribble). Neither of them were caught and ran for weeks causing massive water damage. I will consider using them again in the future because of this. ------ EDIT ------ I recently had my home repiped by Matthew's Plumbing Solutions (MPS). For me, there were some major concerns. I'd like to start with the positives. Jerry, who did the initial estimate, knew what he was doing. Patrick has been a gem anytime we've spoke, and Nick & Norman were professional as can be. I wish Norman was the technician leading the repipe, because what went down was sloppy work at best. We hired MPS to do a PB to PEX conversion. I want to preface with I knew that the drywall would be messed up, and it was expected. I gave Jason and his team full access to the house and left to be out of their way. The result of their work especially in my living room, was astonishing. - Cutting into a structural joist - Cutting into a load bearing stud - Trash everywhere - Pipe pieces and wood chips in attic - Pipes and wood in the crawlspace - Hose bib outside just on the ground - Coke can left up on a shelf (this one is just hilarious to me) - Tore down insulation in the crawlspace (and some other spots), didn't even try to put it back. - Hooked up a sink backwards, causing my kid to burn his hands. - Sink also had a bad crimp, which I fixed. - Lack of plastic - Cut into my baby's closet for no reason - Caused an entire room to be coated in dust, including a piano - TV covered in drywall debris - Shelves coated in it - Didn't close the door or put down any protection in the bathroom, had a drywall and tile dust haze in our upper floor where a baby sleeps. We're still doing laundry and finding dust from this. - Made a giant hole in the tub rather than using a smaller access panel - Carefree drywall cuts, ended up having to drop an entire ceiling - Joking about getting high off fumes in the crawlspace - Couldn't stop hammer drilling for an hour while my baby napped - Broke my utility sink, refused to take responsibility - Sloppy foam and tape work on the garage sink, didn't even secure the water lines to the wall. - Hose bibs have no sealant on them - they're anchored to the brick but were not sealed. - Refrigerator water supply box not secured to the wall - Didn't wear foot protection or put down floor protection - Didn't wear respirators when cutting tile and drywall. Silicosis is not fun. - Didn't even try to sweep up when done - Absurd price to put a bandaid on a leaking drain price. $900 for putting a fernco on? - Aggressive and condescending attitude from Ken when I raised concerns I chose MPS over some of the larger companies because they not only gave me a fair price initially, but I wanted to support a local small business. The callous condescending nature of management at MPS makes me feel like I have no choice but to write this review. They have done nothing to make the damage that they did right, beyond the 6% discount. No apologies, no offer to fix things, just "here's a small discount, go away." I would recommend staying far, far away from MPS for any major jobs. They obviously do not value any kind of customer satisfaction, nor do they take pride in their work. read more

Had a water heater problem. Called and James came out the next day. I decided to replace my 13 year old gas water heater. Had them install a toilet for me. They installed the first one fine but the 2nd installer who got here at close to 5pm, was looking to call it a day on that Monday and he worked fast. It showed too. The installer damaged my linoleum flooring, exposing the subfloor and made a separate 3 inch cut into the floor that luckily didn't expose the subfloor, but it broke through in a slice. I brought this to the attention of the company afterwards via phone. A supervisor asked "What can I do to make it right. I don't want a customer going away unhappy". I placed full discretion on the table to him by asking, "what is it you are prepared to do or can do to make it right"?. He told me to go out, try to look for a caulk the same color, buy it and fix it. This told me he had no sincerity or business savvy aside from saving a few dollars towards any discount for my damaged floor, my time, my expense, my work and my inconvenience. That must have meant the world to them to do that. So, no. Never again and I suggest anyone looking for a good plumbing company, look for a professional company and not Matthews Plumbing Solutions of Raleigh, who deleted their nasty and derogatory reply they made to me on Google. I pointed it out to them in an additional review for customer service and they realized what they said was wrong and inappropriate obviously and deleted it. But the pictures I posted show the sloppy work but they just may make a move to have them removed because they don't do well with valid complaints. I say stay away. Matthew's Plumbing Solutions recently installed a utility sink in my garage. I have known Matt for a few years now and will only call him for my plumbing needs. In the past he has installed a tank-less hot water heater and removed a clog that was pretty deep in the plumbing system. His team always does top notch work and leaves the work area just as clean or cleaner than when they arrived. Any new pipes/drains/etc are installed neatly. Matt and Kimber make a great team! Kimber answered right away when I called and was very polite. We needed a hose bib replacement and our house is on a slab. Kimber told me she would have to check on the exact cost with Matt since she only had the general cost if we had a crawl space or basement. She called me back soon after and gave me the exact cost and said Matt could install an access panel so we wouldn't have trouble getting to the pipe in the future if we needed to. I called around to a few other companies and most weren't sure how they would handle accessing the hose bib or said they would cut into the dry wall and we would have to patch it. The one other company that said they would patch it after cutting had a much higher cost. I called Kimber back and she was able to get us in that night. Matt arrived and was very friendly. He tried to access the pipe without cutting an access panel but wasn't able to. He did an amazing job cutting a space for the panel and was thorough in his work. He fixed the hose bib and the panel fit in perfectly. He even cleaned up the dust from cutting the panel. Matt even gave us advice on how to keep the hose bib working properly. I can't say enough about Matthews Plumbing!! I met them through a Knightdale Facebook community group when I was having issues with my Choice Home Warranty. They came over to fix my toilet same day. Came in, understood the issue, brought parts from the truck, fixed it. Where they really stood out was the following week, my hot water heater went out. When I say they had the best customer service I've seen in a long time!!!! Rhonda in the office was amazing. She understood my pain and made sure she grabbed as much information as she could to ensure that my service was seamless. Any questions that were had, she asked the office staff and they were responsive and amazing. You can tell they sincerely cared about my issue and seeing what they could do to help me. Furthermore she was able to get me in same day. I mean, just amazing!!! Jesse next came out to give me a quote related to tankless heater vs non-tankless. No issues with the service. It was just crazy expensive. I was charged $400 for 1 hour of work. About $25 in parts. I complained and they gave me $80 back but I don't think I should have had to to get a fair price, and $325 is still high. read more

I called Matthews in order to consider getting my two 50 gallon gas water heaters replaced. They were prompt and sent out one of their folks to look and provide a quote. After the quote I agreed and they started work within a day or two. The de-install and installation seemed to be without issue. The next day we experienced a ton of issues with the unit throwing codes and not working correctly. Additionally there were two small issues that the town inspector wanted corrected. Matthew and his team were exceptionally responsive to the issues. They made exception and came out immediately even after hours in order to fix the issues. It took several trips out to the house but throughout the process Matthew was very communicative. He was confident they would be able to get the new unit to work properly and told us that no matter what the issues would be resolved. The issue has been resolved and Matt and his team have continued to follow up just to make sure there are no issues. You would be silly to choose any other vendor, Matt and his team are NOT the type of plumber to set it and forget it. read more

If your third floor water heater is going to go out, it will happen on a Sunday night when you have visitors and when your husband is out of town. That's what happened to me! Luckily it did not flood. I talked with Kimber on Monday morning and by Tuesday they were out and we had a new hot water installed. I had an issue water pressure in my shower, so I set up an appointment and Wayne from Mathew's Plumbing came out to diagnose the problem. Unfortunately, problems with my home warranty coverage prevented me from getting this fixed right away. So since I didn't get any work done my review is based on the limited interaction i did have, which was overall good. Wayne was professional and pleasant, and from what i could tell, wasn't trying to overstate the job, up-sell, or something like that. The last star was dropped only due to the fact that I would of been charged for time it took to go to the home depot to look for the required part since it wasn't something they have in their truck. Not sure if that is industry standard, but definitely not something i've personally heard before from a skilled tradesperson (plumber/electrician) doing a job. read more

I sent out a mass quote request on here and Matthew was the only one to even ask anything about the water heater and have a thought to repair it rather than buy a brand new one . Alas it was too old and irreparable and We has to go with a new water heater . I was chatting with them at 9 I called around 1230 for an appt and they had someone here by 230 . He was super friendly and polite, quick and efficient . He moved the old water heater, disposed of it, installed the new one and even went as far as to clean the tub from where some rust had come from draining the water heater, all in one hour . Pricing was unbelievably fair and didn't change from the requested quote at 9 am. I was incredibly happy with my experience with them ( especially given a few weeks ago I used another company and had a horrible experience. Matthew's plumbing is overall very polite and professional. They did a good job with installing plumbing hardware. However, I am disappointed with their diagnosing skills. I have had a water hammer noise for a while and I was told that pipes need to be secured. I was not at all convinced but was still told that it's the pipes. So, I had to find another plumber. Finally, got it resolved and it had NOTHING to do with the pipes rather a bathtub shower cartridge that needed to be replaced and the noise permanently disappeared! Thanks. read more

I needed help changing out an old shower arm and head that was stuck. Blake came out and was able to get the job done! He had warned me that the pipe in the wall could break but he was going to do his best and he did just that. No broken pipe! And I really appreciated the heads up. What kind of a scam is this??! See if you can follow this one. I had purchased a dishwasher with installation included but the store would not install it because the shut off valve was soldered to the water line. So I was looking to schedule a plumber to come later in the day as the dishwasher was redelivered. That way I know if the dishwasher is working fine and have time to address return or repair. When I called Matthews and sent a picture of the soldered valve, they told me a dishwasher installation is $225, and replacing the valve would just be charged hourly at $150/hour. She reassured me the pricing basis is hourly and I could expect to pay for one additional hour on account of the soldered valve needing to be replaced, $225 + $150. This was very clearly stated and I felt my questions had been covered. I coordinated the delivery and the plumber, and made sure their schedule allowed enough time; I was told, the appointment allows two hours and that should be enough time to take care of the valve. Then the plumber was sick so installation was rescheduled 2 days after delivery 10-12. Then there was a cancellation so the appointment was moved up 9-10:30. Then the plumber arrived at 9:30 and was in a super hurry to get to the next appointment while pointing out to me all kinds of problems that are going to run the time and costs up and make him late for his 11:00. "Oh, I didn't know you were on a slab..." Uh, a lot of people are on slabs. Shouldn't someone have asked that on the phone? He tells me all kinds of reasons he will have to charge much more than I was told on the phone, he is going to have to cut the dry wall under the sink because he can't go straight down into the crawl, and I will need two valves instead of one, for both hot water and cold water. I don't know why I wasn't told that on the phone. But of course I needed my dishwasher installed. So I told him to go ahead. Then after he finished in under two hours, all I could see is the very result that was explained to me on the phone. I tried to get an explanation of what was different, but he was agressive about collecting and in a big hurry. And he was not the one I spoke to on the phone. So I called the office and get this: now they say they charge $225 for "dishwasher installation" and $150/hour labor, for all hours, and $225 does not include any labor, that is the "dishwasher installation." Huh? Now the final price came to over $525 and the dishwasher was already there as was the installation kit, so all the materials that were provided were the two valves. So I was charged for 2 hours over the "dishwasher installation" price at $150/hour and told that I had received a $100 discount! Also I was told of another discount since the plumber and tech were actually there 2 hours "and change" (a lot of time was going over gradiose reasons for the price switching, and asking if he can play my grand piano after he has been under the sink cutting drywall.) When he changed the valve, he also told me he would have to charge extra for taking out my garbage disposal; and I said if I knew he was going to remove and reinstall the disposal I might have picked up a new one since mine is old, and to this he says, a new disposal is $250, I have one on the truck, and that is the cost of installation which does not include the price of the disposal. Let me figure this out, to put the same one back in there is the hourly labor charge but to put in a new one I would pay for the disposal plus labor hours plus $250 for "disposal installation?" Huh? Now let me comment on the installation itself. It was rushed. Even though I was standing there asking for the plumber to do certain things for me, and being charged hourly, he was not about to do anything but a rush job. I asked if he would make a nice square cut of the drywall so I could repair it easily. Is it square? No. I asked the tech if I should get my caulking gun from the shed so I could seal behind the dishwasher when the old one is pulled out. He told me, no they have caulk and they'll take care of it. Did they caulk? No. All I got was a tirade on why I will have to call an electrician to get a plug under my sink. The wire was coming out from a tear in sheetrock from the floor up a few inches. I asked if I could get a cable cover from my shed to feed the wire through. Do you think that happened? The low point was when the plumber told me I should call an electrician right away to redo the tech's wiring so I could sleep at night. I said, I hope I can sleep at night with the hardwiring you did? And he laughed. The tech also felt free to go through my house without being accompanied or asking permission to go alone, upstairs and through my bedroom. I had bought a pricy floor model which was shipped back to Atlanta where a new control panel was put on since the floor model had scratches. Now it is scratched again.
