    Bao and other side dishes

I've been wanting to come here for a while and I can't believe I've lived in the area for years and missed out on this gem!!!! The bao is fluffy, light and melts in your mouth, I had the taro flavor and it was the perfect dessert not too sweet. The banh mi sandwich I got had nice crispy bread with fried and crisp veggies along with deliciously flavored chicken. Would highly recommend coming here. The staff was very friendly and helped me make safe choices around my pork allergy.

It was pretty good. I got the BBQ pork sandwich unfortunately they put patee how ever he hell you spell it. My god that stuff is terrible. The sand which was good minus the patee. Great place. Clean place. Nice people that run the spot. A lot more cleaner and nicer than vina bakery. The owners are actually friendly and smile. They make you feel at home even though normally you are the only non Asian person there. They always smile and nod to make sure they acknowledge your presence. I will go back and just make sure they don't put the patee. That stuff is nasty.

Yum! I came here today for the first time and ordered a couple of banh mi and a pork bao, and they were delicious! (and cheap! awesome value) The french bread for the banh mi is so fresh. Toasty on the outside but soft on the inside. Full of meat and fresh veggies. The mayo they use is seasoned which I've never had before and I loved it. The bao is also really soft and fluffy. The employees were also super nice, I look forward to coming back for more delicious vietnamese options! And also to take better pictures hopefully.

Fresh and tasty. They disclose everything in the sandwich and can make it the way you like it! Many of the Banh mi sandwich places put Maggi/Knorr seasoning on it (which contains MSG). Here, you can specify if you do not want it on your sandwich. We had the Thit nuong (BBQ pork) and xiu mai (pork meatball) sandwiches and shared a custard bun for dinner: they were all delicious. The custard bun was soft and not mushy or too chewy. All had great flavor! They have a buy 5 sandwiches get 1 free. We will be back and take them up on this offer!

First time here and I feel in love with their Banh Bao. I got one of everything to try. Their dough was soft and light, their filling was really good and it was a nice ratio with the bao and meat. I hate it when there is a lot of dough and they skimp on the meat, but not here. I will definitely be back

This place is a hole-in-the-wall restaurant near veterans and bammel. Had it not been for Yelp, I would've never noticed this place. I especially was enticed by how cheap their prices are. I'm usually a really big banh mi fan but these were really mild in flavor. I usually prefer the carrots be pickled and these weren't. They also weren't as stuffed as i normally like them to be. I got the grilled pork and it was a little bland. The 1 thing that kind of threw me off is that they had spring rolls pre-made with shrimp and pork, pre-packaged and sitting in an unrefrigerated area. I know that the rice-paper gets hard when it gets cold but shrimp and pork need to be kept cool. I was pretty off-putt by that.

Not a lot of flavor. Shredded banh mi and bao were just ok. Personally I won't be returning anytime soon

My partner wanted to grab lunch here so we tried for the first time this place. We got a simple sandwich and elote which the staff said it should take 15-20 mins. We waited and waited it past 40+ mins and I went to ask. - First was that they lost our order number and they couldn't find it. - Second the manager began to say our order was taken by someone else and then that my partner grabbed it. Switching her words back and forth and not believing what we had said. I asked how did we grab our stuff if I still have the device to notify when our food is ready. - Third she completely stopped talking to us and went to go help at other customers. I told her we want our money back and she said, "well I'm not going to refund for the drinks you had". Ma'am, that's not how you run a business. Just admit you messed up and take ownership of your mistakes to help a customer out. - Fourth she mentioned that other tickets have been lost today and other foods have been stolen before. This just shows how disorganized this placed is. We were able to ask for our money back but it was a battle about it. I was disappointed because we wanted to support your business but at this service? Heck no! Do not come here. And from reading other reviews now we did not miss on the food.

We had some friends over and were treating them to dinner so we got a Family feast with extra fries and large rice. (We got the chicken double fried for added crispness) So for clarity it's only tenders and wings. Not chicken pieces like dark meat and white meat. So I was a little disappointed with that. Anyhow the chicken was seasoned well, I got mild and it was crispy and well done. Fries were seasoned fries those were ok (maybe because we waited half hour from driving home to eat they weren't crispy) The dirty rice was so good. Flavorful and delicious, loved every bite. We had a creamy and delicious Mac and cheese also. On the other hand I felt like it was a little pricy for the family meals but hey... it was delicious so I guess it was worth it. They also have burgers and the sauces we tried were the jerk chilli sauce and jerk lemon pepper. Those were great choices. Only wished we had gotten a bigger portion of the sauce or more of the smaller ones for the amount of food in the family feast.

Finally decided to try Southern Jerks after seeing all the hype on Instagram. For some reason, I…read morethought it was much farther away, but it turned out to be only about 15 minutes from me. Located inside a gas station, so it's easy to miss if you aren't looking for it. Luckily, there wasn't much of a line when I visited. The staff was friendly and polite. I was in and out in about 20 minutes. One thing I didn't realize beforehand is that they specialize in chicken wings and chicken strips rather than offering a full range of fried chicken pieces. They do have a few non-chicken items, though. I'll definitely be back to try the jerk burger. The chicken itself was hot, crispy, juicy, and well seasoned. Their dry seasoning has a unique flavor, but I enjoyed it. Unfortunately, my order was missing the dipping sauces, so I can only judge the chicken on its own. It honestly doesn't need sauce, but I'm on a lemon pepper quest and was reaaaallllly looking forward to trying the jerk lemon pepper. The mac and cheese was probably the best I tried anywhere. Cheese pull and everything. Better than most sit down restaurants. I was also pleasantly surprised by the dirty rice. It's the first place I've found where the rice isn't mushy. The fries were well seasoned and came as crinkle-cut fries, which I actually preferred. I noticed that the fries shown on the menu and in some customer photos look different from what I received, so they may be experimenting with them. If so, I hope the crinkle-cut fries stay. I appreciated that they include jalapeños and rolls with the chicken orders. I ended up chatting with a few other customers, and they were there for the same reason I was: they'd seen Instagram videos calling Southern Jerks "the best chicken in Houston." That's a bold claim in a city with so many outstanding fried chicken spots. I wouldn't personally give it the top spot, but it absolutely holds its own and is well worth trying. It was fun watching the chicken being freshly fried while waiting for my order. My only real complaints were the missing sauces and the price. It's a little more expensive than I expected, especially considering the location, and you have Frenchy's, Popeyes, Timmy Chans, and a few other local spots all there competing. Overall, Southern Jerks serves flavorful chicken, excellent sides, and the best mac and cheese I've had anywhere. While I don't think it's the best fried chicken in Houston, it's definitely worth visiting to decide for yourself.

This is the one and only location here and a great stop for all kinds of sandwiches. Their menu includes innovative offerings and iconic flavors, essentially the best of both worlds. If you're craving a classic or simple sandwich, you can get that. However, if you're looking for something special or out of this world, you can also get it. Ike's specializes in sandwiches with their Dutch Crunch bread and Dirty Sauce, both unique in its own way. Whether you're a meat lover, vegetarian, vegan, or on a gluten-free diet, their menu has it all. I personally am not a super fan of the Dutch Crunch bread since I find it a bit too harsh on the palate and somewhat dry, but love the Dirty Sauce (make it extra or on the side). I enjoy subbing the Dutch Crunch with either French or Sourdough. With over 300 unique sandwiches on the menu, there's a sandwich for everyone. My favorites have been the Menage A Trois (halal chicken, honey mustard, BBQ Sauce, real honey, pepper jack, swiss, cheddar), Ike's Reuben (pastrami, mack Sauce, purple slaw, gouda), Joker (all beef meatballs, fried zucchini, Ike's red pesto, ranch), and Grant Pinkerton, a Houston exclusive (Pinkerton Brisket, pastrami, BBQ aioli, provolone). All of my sandwiches have been stuffed and tasty, worth it! However, I find some menu items to be subpar in quality and flavor (chicken strips). The service is typically quick, efficient, and friendly. There are more than a handful of tables inside and some out on the patio. The shared parking lot can get very crowded as it is packed with lots of other businesses.

Honestly, in the beginning it was pretty rough, slow service, incorrect orders, and the sandwiches just weren't as good as what I was used to getting in California. The sandwiches have been fresh and really tasty, and the customer service has been solid. I also spoke with Jose, and he mentioned he's been working hard to turn things around, and it definitely shows. Not sure why they don't have more locations yet, but I hope they expand soon!
