This place used to be wonderful, so this visit was really disappointing. When we walked in yesterday, there was only one person working in the entire restaurant. She was preparing a takeout order, so we had to wait for a while before she could even come talk to us. When she finally did, she told us that most of the menu wasn't available and that they only had ingredients for two sandwiches: chicken or pork. We decided to order the pork sandwich. Unfortunately, it took a very long time to come out. When we finally got it, it was another disappointment. The sandwich had very little pork and mostly vegetables. The pork that was there was almost entirely fat and grease, with very little actual meat. This place used to be amazing, which makes the experience even more frustrating. They had us put our own orders in the register and pay which was fine, we could tell they were busy being only 2 staff members now. But then it took a very long time for the order to come out only for them to say they ran out of pork for one sandwich and it would be longer to get the chicken instead. Then the first bite of my sandwich was a charred piece of pork I couldn't bit through. Rest of the sandwich was all just charred meat with not a good flavor. The place is super clean and the service is friendly. The prices are also just about right. For the food... I just drove four hours from Dallas after flying from Charlotte earlier this morning. I did have a 12oz Red Bull on the second half of the trip so I wasn't super hungry but I was definitely on the side of: "I can eat." The Grilled Chicken Sandwich sometimes tasted like pork, but I guess it was chicken. Maybe it was just super-duper grilled. Also, based on my past experiences with Vietnamese food, the freshness of the vegetables pop! I didn't get a pop here. Everything was fresh, but no Fresh Pop! I enjoyed the sandwich but I wasn't amazed. Imagine eating a sandwich that was the equivalent of the Dallas Cowboys. It was kind of like that. Good but not amazing. The Wonton Soup was definitely different than Chinese Wonton Soup. Then again, this is the first time I ever had Vietnamese Wonton Soup. I don't know the norm, but in this instance, there was a lot more pork than wonton, and they are smaller wontons. I recommend this restaurant if you're looking for solid food. My coworker introduced us to Banh Mi ETC. We ordered food to go. I was very impressed with the food. The banh mi sandwiches are loaded with meat. The sandwich seemed a little bigger than normal too, which I loved. I got a milk tea with no sugar and it was so yummy. Since we got it to-go, they had it cold even with no ice which was nice! I'm not a big fan of the service I received. When I placed my order over the phone for takeout, they said it would take 7-10 minutes. I came in later than that due to traffic (arrived approx. 5:10 pm), and it seemed like they didn't even start to prepare my food in that time. During peak hours, I'd understand that there may be some slow ups, but I was one of two customers they were serving at once. While the cashier was taking my payment, she asked what type of spring rolls I wanted, which should have been asked over the phone. I wanted something quick before I finish up work, but I ended up waiting much later to receive my meal. And why does the Yelp menu not have their entire menu? It's missing all the teas and smoothies they serve which I believe to be the main draw to come here. I'd like to be able to order a tea over the phone without having to ask which teas they offer every time I place an order. I was in the area one day and finally made it to this spot thats been around a few years now. While walking up to the restaurant from the parking lot, you can see the sign posted outside indicating they use slow dough bread, which is probably pretty rare for an Asian restaurant. But, I usually have a good meal when the restaurant does use that bakery.. Inside its very nice and modern, without being too cold. I was a little confused about whether this is a teahouse with some food on the side, or a sandwich spot with drinks on the side. They do have a lot of power outlets under the seats, similar to a teahouse, but the noise isn't there, so I'd say it's more a sandwich spot. I tried the chicken banh mi, and the pork banh mi. These items are under $7, unlike their vermicelli and rice dishes which are around $10/11. The pork was just a lot better than the chicken. I didnt taste much of any flavor from the chicken. The soda fountain wasn't working on my visit, so I ordered sweet tea, which they brew fresh daily. I am a fan of the banh mi! Came here with my boyfriend for a light lunch/snack. I ordered the thai tea and he got a hong kong milk tea with tapioca. We decided to order 1 banh mi (the special) to share since we didnt want anything too heavy and i wanted a wonton soup. The food came out quite quickly within 10 minutes which was very nice. My wonton soup came out first with our drinks. There was 8 wontons. The soup itself wasnt very flavourful other than the taste of the fried onion that they put in the soup. I added sriracha for a kick which the soup just became the flavor of sriracha and fried onion. The wontons were dense with the taste of pork. The banh mi itself was actually quite tastey! It had pate, some cold cut meats, butter, chilantro and a slice of jalapeno and cucumber with pickled carrots. Just the way I enjoy it! I would definitely come back to order the banh mi again! They do have noodle dishes and rice plates too which is a good mix up. Great for groups or take out lunch. Super casual place, though it was kind of hot inside. This review would normally generate a 5 star review, however we stopped in today for lunch and the quality of Bahn mi was not up to our initial visit. Was it still delicious? Of course!! Only complaint was that the customer service was slightly lacking. Also the French baguette did not have a defined toast and crunch. We ordered the grilled pork Bahn mi and also tried the lemongrass Bahn mi. The lemongrass beef had decent flavor but when it sits too long in marinade, it changes and alters the taste of the beef in general, same goes with the grilled pork. Drinks are always delicious as usual. Will definitely go back for a third time to give an update on the quality of Bahn mi in which I felt the first visit was the best I've ever had in my life.
