GOod bread but a little pricey for the size 60 cents each and only #1 item from all others say mostly Asians. All the other stuff are just a mediocrity and can't remember what was it that wow my taste-buds except the soft not quite baguette breads, but I can say this is only for plain breads that I keep coming back for except a big disappointment in service that includes sanitation to having any smiles any day here. At first, when i walked in, i don't really like the cashier guy with his rude look and voice toward to us. I was about to leave but my girlfriend really want a sandwich so i would give it a try. But man, we hated it here. The sandwich was cold, suppose to be crispy but cold and soft instead and there were very little meat. We ordered the speacial sandwich which has everything in it but only freaking ham when we opened the sandwich. Then, i ordered a coffee. I expected it was made from the fin which is dripping from grinding bean and condense milk but no, it was made from the G7 instant coffee bags (so freaking cheap). Been coming here for over a decade, and it is still the best spot for banh mi and baguettes. New owner is the son of the originally owner, and he is much more pleasant to interact with. He has also remodeled to be more modern creating a nice ambiance, along with adding a delightful tapioca cafe. read more

When you enter, you go up to the cash register and place your order. I went with the beef banh mi. Best choice. They have this sauce in there which makes it the best. Al nice and juicy. I use to come here happily. There was never a line, it was conveniently located next to the Hong Kong supermarket, and the menu was simple and to the point. The banh mi was tasty and loaded with tasty marinaded meat and toppings, my favorite being the bbq pork, and we would usually pick up a few to take home for lunch. The service is not that good, and usually I can let that slide at an Asian establishment as long as the food is phenomenal. What stopped me from coming back was on my very last and final visit, we ordered two of my favs to go, and when we got home, we found that the meat was not even warm, and the pieces were chewy and hard, barely edible. I'm not sure what happened, but the fact that they would even serve this and expect us to eat it is appalling. We almost threw them away because they were that disappointing. After calling them and complaining, they did offer us free sandwiches the next time we visited, which was a little bit of a pain, but by that time I had found Ngyuen Ngo. So if you go, check your order, and you will be rewarded with a delicious banh mi. However, I cannot continue supporting an establishment that would serve sub par food to save a few bucks. read more

Please, do not go here. I literally made an account just to write this. There have been 2 main times that, just, really make me mad. The first time, we had no problems previously and we thought the food was really good, we genuinely liked the place. Then, it went downhill. My mom was watching the lady make the food, and she sees the owner ask for something, so the woman making the food pulls out her phone. She was not wearing any gloves, and, no, she did not wash her hands when she went back to making the food. She was in the middle of making it, and she just pulls out her phone. That's disgusting. And why would the guy even ask her for something when she's making food? He didn't even tell her not to pull out her phone while she's making food, or to wash her hands after, or something. The second time is worse in my opinion. My mom didn't like the guy and she was still disgusted about the first time, but she wanted to give them a second chance. (Not even getting to the main part, the owner was on his phone when my mom first walked in, she stood at the counter for awhile and he ignored her. Secondly, the owner always wants cash and actually charges extra if you use a card.) Moving on, she still watched the lady make the food, because, well, you know. She saw the woman drop the bread on the floor when she was getting it out of the oven, normal, right. But, it can't end there, the owner stared at her, looked around, looked right at my mom, then proceeded to pick it up and hand it to her. He was the one who picked it up off the floor, not her. He did, he even checked to see if anyone was watching. At least he's brave. If you made it to this far and think something like "these are small instances", you don't know if he has done worse things to his food. For many years, I was warned never to try the food here. It's as if Satan works here and you're guaranteed to have spit in your food or something. I found out the other day it's not quite as hellish as I had imagined. Already had crawfish for lunch in the same shopping center and decided to go for dessert. My favorite is at Nguyen Ngo 2 right behind here plus I was stuffed from lunch, so no sense in eating banh mi here. The baked goods were kinda limited. But I opted for a small box of mini cream puffs and a box of butter cookies. Both were decent. The cream puff was literally bite-sized full of buttery cream. Not the best I had, but it was fairly decent enough. The soft buttered cookies were delectable. Not bad at all. Plus the staff at the counter was helpful today. Still good! The soft French bread they bake for the sandwiches are still good. The inside is very soft and will get soggy if you don't eat your banh mi right away. Other places might have long crusty baguettes. The meatballs (xiu mai) are good again. They now have a hot bar where you can buy items like grilled chicken, grilled pork, meatballs, (& other stuff I can't remember- egg rolls). I saw them grab the meatballs from the hot bar for my sandwich. So, stuff there = some stuff that goes into the sandwiches. Maybe you can check how the chicken, pork, beef, or meatballs look before you order them. I haven't gotten the grilled pork and egg sandwich recently because the last times I got it, they had a pan fried scrambled egg instead of a sunny side up egg like the pictures showed. They now have new pictures of their sandwiches and it still shows a sunny side up egg- maybe they do that again. I agree with some other reviews, the guy working here wasn't very friendly; no response when I say thank you. And instead of handing me my sandwich, he hung the bag from his finger and pointed it at me, wth...
