Incredibly satisfied with my experiences at NW Northwest Cycles Bicycle Shop! The people working here are not only friendly, they are honest which is very hard to find these days. Brought in my bike for a rear derailleur adjustment and tune-up a few weeks ago and could not be more satisfied. Rides like a completely different bike and shifts smooth like butter. I noticed a slight tinging noise so I brought the bike back into the shop and they made it right. They took the time to hear me out and tried to fix it on the spot. After further evaluation, they said it was best to leave the bike at the shop so they could do a deeper dive into the issue and fix it properly. Turnaround was quick as I got a call the next day informing me of what needed to be done to resolve the issue and that it would be ready shortly. Bike runs great again and could not be more happier. I'll continue to use this bicycle shop and highly recommend their services. Thank you! read more

I bought a replacement wheel here for my old 10 speed which immediately bent into a pringle upon use. When I took it back I was not given a refund and was told that the wheel was "not really for riding on" (what?). I was then told that there was no way to find an old stock wheel the right size. Basically, 'get out of the store if you're not here to spend hundreds of dollars'. I suppose if you're a regular (spender) here, these probably guys do good work for you. read more

Excellent customer service. Went in for repair on son's bmx bicycle that was not braking correctly. Upon consultation, I was informed that the extent of the repairs needed and the cost to do then would probably be better spent towards a new bike. I appreciated the honesty. Integrity is everything. If I could put zero stars I would. I took my bike in for two simple things: to get a tire changed and to get the gears to shift properly. When they told me how much it would cost ($120) to work on the gears I told them not to do the work as it still worked fine for my flat neighborhood. But then they called me, before I picked up the bike to tell me they had tried to work on my gears and that now they didn't work. So now I cannot ride the bike because it is stuck on the easiest gear and it will not shift into any gears. In other words, they screwed up what I told them not to work on, and now I will have to pay someone else to fix what they messed up. I sure hope they didn't really screw it up! read more

I brought my bike to get the gears fixed. When I picked it up, the back tire was flat! It was obvious that the tube had been replaced. When I tried to fill the tube, it would not hold air. When I confronted them they flatly denied it. In fact, some small man who I think owns the company, told me he would fix it for a charge! And to get out of his shop! I will never go back there and I would advise any one not do any business there. They are over priced and have poor customer service. The place is a rip off! read more

I taken a couple of different bikes in for repairs at Northwest Cyclery. Most recently I had my Schwinn road/exercise bike in for a major tuneup and brake job. My husband was missing a lock nut for a bike that he was putting together. We stopped by hoping they would sell the missing part. One of guy there diligently looked for the part. Turns out they had it! He saved my husband the hassle of calling the company that shipped us the incorrect part and waiting for them to ship the correct one. In addition, he didn't even charge us for it. The lock may not meant a lot to him but his nice and kind gesture meant a lot to us. We're now a loyal customer and would return to them to help support their business. read more

I live very close to this bike shop. It's convenient and exactly what I'd expect out of a privately owned bike shop. Good selection of bikes and very good service. I have a bike from the 70's with original wheels that i bought not too long ago. I needed new wheels and they helped me out. Bought 2 new wheels (on sale from $60 to $35) and they worked on it, changing the wheels and airing up my tubes for $14 labor. Knowledgeable and helpful workers. read more

I've only ever bought parts from this place as I do most of my maintenance, but I've NEVER had a bad experience here. I'm not one of those people that throws out bikes for the latest lightweight crap made in China. And when I come in looking for parts for older bikes they don't get all snotty like Bike Barn near my house. Reading some of the other reviews, I guess it depends upon who you get. I've always been helped by a gentlemen with an accent. I'm guessing he's an owner. In fact the last time I went in just to get a quick release adapter that allows you to make a seat adjustable he pulled it from their inventory and decided that it was priced a little too high. He simply said, "Sixteen dollars seems a little steep. How about we call it ten?" I guess there's many ways you can see that. I choose to see it as they're value conscious for their customers. I've looked around their inventory and their new bikes are moderately priced and their used bikes are well maintained and have good pricing too. If I had had the room in garage, I would have picked up this great Trek tandem bike that they had for sale. read more

I only took my son's bike to this place because it was close to home. Unfortunately they disappointed me. Friday I dropped off my son's Mongoose bike due to brake issues. The Cuban guy that works on the bikes was kind and very helpful. He said that it should cost close to $20 to simply fix the brakes. Also, he said that if he needed to replace anything, it would cost an additional $40. I said ok. Well, less than an hour of dropping off the bike, the owner called saying the bike was ready. I was tied up all weekend and only picked it up Sunday after church. They charged me $37!!!!! I asked the guy for details on the charges. The kid that was at the back working on bikes said he made some adjustments. Nothing was cleaned nor replaced... just a little tightening here and there for $37. I will not return and certainly do not recommend this place. read more

This bike shop sucks! The lead mechanic (I think he's the owner too) is super arrogant, and talks down to people if you're not bringing end a super high-end bike. I have several high-end bikes, and can afford ANYTHING in this store. I go there for something simple for my daughter's bike and the dude acted like he was too good to discuss anything about a Huffy branded bike. Are they a bike shop or not? Screw that dude! I'll go elsewhere, where the staff is more willing to help customers who are ready to spend money. I'll NEVER go back there again. read more

A good bike shop just off of 290 outside the Beltway. Not a big selection of cycling accessories but plenty to keep you on the bike. If they do not have it in the store, they will work with you to start stocking it in their store, which is wonderful. The bike repair shop itself is great and the people in the store have always been pleasant and helpful. Overall, I go to Northwest cycle before trying other bike shops. read more

Went this morning for a warranty claim for SRAM. SRAM does not deal with consumers so they advised I go to a local bike shop (LBS). They recommended this particular shop, and I called before going to make sure everything was going to go smoothly. On the phone they sounded willing to take care of it, but when I showed up, it was a short 2 minutes conversation. I did not buy the brakes from them, they are not going to even to touch them. I guess customer service goes out the window when you dont buy from them. I buy stuff from both LBS and online, depending on need and price. This is one shop that will most certainly not see my business no matter how badly I need a part. read more

These guys were awesome. They fixed a noise in my bottom Bracket and some carbon creaks that were driving me crazy. I rode the bike to the shop so they could ride with me and diagnose the noises. While I waited they tried to fix it. It was not to the service technicians satisfaction so they asked if they could have some time to work n it. I said sure and they offered to take me home, when does that type of service ever happen in retail? It does here. They fixed the bike and it is better than new and it did not break the bank either. The service at this shop is not up to par. Beware their service cost estimates. I don't expect the estimate to be perfect but I think more than 40% higher leads to frustration on pick-up. This recently happened with two bikes I brought in for routine service. Actual charges were 40% higher on each bike than estimated even though no more service was done on the bikes than what I originally agreed to at drop-off. I don't submit reviews often but I feel compelled to write about how, as a first time bicycle buyer, I was completely ripped of and sold a bike that was entirely too small for me. Not knowing a lot about bicycles a couple of years ago I bought a Trek 7.5fx from Northwest Cycles. I should have known I was being pushed into a bike too small when they were trying to sell me an older model off the floor "at a great price". They ended up raising the seat really high, installing handle bar risers (I guess) and sold me a bike that I've since discovered was entirely too small for me being 6'5". I could never get comfortable on the hybrid, too much weight on the bars, poor ergonomics, etc. I paid over $800 for the bike plus all the crap they upsold me that they needed to try and make it fit me. Now that I am looking for a new bike and doing research I've discovered that I was sold the wrong bike and they obviously cared more about moving old inventory than fitting a customers needs. Thanks Northwest Cycles for taking advantage of a noob like me who trusted you over the big chain stores. You wont get my business on the new bike I will soon buy and I'll do my part to spread the word to folks that they better be sure to do their research before trusting you guys to be honest. read more
