Reached out to him on Sunday thinking I would get a response tomorrow or later in the week, but he quickly responded to me on the same day even though it was on his off hours! He's very flexible and accommodating with scheduling for a meet up to check out my bike and get it up and running again for me. New tires, inner tubes, handlebar wraps, and front derailleur replacement. Turn around was less than 3 days! It looks so good and the wraps he picked were an awesome surprise since I just left it in the air for him to pick out the color for me. Definitely knew his stuff and taught me how to use my road bike as well. Took it for a test run and he gave me tips and how-to with all my gears. Love that I can safely ride this bike that got handed to me via my sister (she hasn't ridden it in 4-5 years). I thought I needed all kinds of work on my borrowed bicycle that has been sitting in my friend's garage for who knows how long. I thought I'd need new tubes, all kinds of stuff. I started the work myself, then quickly realized I needed an expert to do this stuff or I was going to mangle everything. Broken Spoke Bicycle was #3 on my search, and the closest to me, so I set up an appointment on a Sunday afternoon at 2. Jonathan took the better part of half an hour to walk me through some of the more important things on my bike, what to look for and how to fix it, aired up my existing tires (didn't need a new tube after all!), and then tinkered with my brakes to ensure they worked properly. All while explaining what he was doing and why, and showing me the tools I would need to do them if I ever got caught out on my own with a broken bike. After he helped me wedge my bicycle BACK into my sedan trunk, I asked him how much I owed him. He waved his hand dismissively and said "All I did was put air in your tires." No, sir. Long story, short...... Mr. Jonathan was beyond wonderful and we are super happy with the results and cost! He is a budget friendly option and he single-handedly is saving bikes from the junk-yard. Bikes that are worth more in memories than in dollars NOW get a second chance with Jonathan's help! Longer version of the same story.... I was worried at first because it was unclear initially that this is a home-based business. So I didn't feel comfortable when I first went to the address provided. Also, later I learned that Jonathan is a hard working fellow and I think I arrived too early so we had some poorly timed communication (on my part). FYI if you experience this too try some patience, Jonathan is worth the wait. On my second attempt I did meet Mr. Jonathan. After our face-to-face encounter and seeing how passionate he is about bike restoration I was sold! Our situation was that we had my husbands vintage (well-used, rusted BMX cycle without any breaks) bike that we wanted to restore for our 7 year old son. I went to 3 larger bike shops in the local area and the price ($200++) made fixing this old bike unrealistic. We ALMOST gave up and were considering going to a buy a new bike. When I found Jonathan he gave me hope! Jonathan helped my budget by guiding my selections of bike parts online. I bought the items he suggested and that I wanted and sent them directly to his home. Also, during the repair he took cost effective steps to ensure the bike worked properly. We had a braking clamp apparatus that was not able to be repaired and it was too expensive to replace, so he make a functional alternative. The restoration took a while (over a month) but: I was not in a hurry, this is his 2nd job (or 3rd job if you count his families business), some parts I ordered took longer to arrive than expected, Thanksgiving happened, and he had rush orders that were time sensitive. I did text Jonathan for updates during this time and he promptly replied on the status of the bike. When the bike was done and I got the call I was beyond excited to see what he was able to do! Mr. Jonathan did not disappoint!!! He went above and beyond to help keep this BMX family heirloom bike rolling!!! Jonathan even gave me on the spot bike maintenance 101 training. I am overwhelmed by the care he took with the bike and my budget. Jonathan is the bike whisperer! Without him this old BMX bike might be in a scrap heap or hanging forever unused in the garage. Jonathan is a mechanical wonder! I have taken two bikes to him since finding his bike repair business on Yelp recently. My "good" bike (S-Works) was skipping gears, chain was falling off, not changing gears -all this after another shopped did so-called repairs!! (Note: the bike came with SRAM components which have always been problematic!) Jonathan not only fixed those problems but also cleaned all the components and they look better than new! His customer service and mechanical knowledge are impressive. After he fixed my bike, I had a minor issue with one of the shifters. I took it back and Jonathan adjusted it -no charge! I was so impressed with his repairs to my SRAM gears that I took my "clunker" bike to him, which had not been serviced in over a decade -except for getting tires and tubes. He gave it the tender loving care it needed and now all the drivetrain parts are shining like new and the bike rides smoother than when I bought it new almost 20 years ago. (BTW, my clunker bike has Shimano Ultegra components which are far superior to SRAM!) On top of everything else great about Jonathan's bike repair business, his prices are SUPER REASONABLE. He's a one-man shop with low overhead. He does not "up sell" and he will educate you about what's happening with your bike and how you can maintain it -whether you want to hear it or not LOL. I can't remember ever walking away from bike repair shops where the bill for major work or complete tune ups was less than $100, $200 or even $300!! So glad I found this business! Next, I plan to have Jonathan switch my crummy SRAM Red components for Shimano Ultegra components. He is now on the lookout for a good used set so that I won't pay full price (thousands) for new parts. That's just one example of his off-the-charts customer service! Jonathan did an outstanding job on my adult trike. It had a broken chain, lots of rust in numerous places, and because the company I bought it from sent me the wrong size fenders, it had never had the adorable pink fenders installed. My primary request of Jonathan was to fix the chain. He said he'd do that, give me a full bike "tune-up," try to remove the rust & see if he could find a way to install the fenders. Well, he did all of this & didn't even upcharge me on the parts he had to purchase for me; used his own rewards on them too. Apparently the trike had been put together wrong to begin with, so he took it totally apart, rebuilt it, de-rusted it, added a new chain & found a bracket that made installing the wrong-sized fenders possible. Now the bike looks adorable with its pink fenders & rides great!!!! We had also discussed my desire for a way to transport the bike so I didn't have to fold it every time. After the fact, he sent me links to the exact type of hitch & rack I'd need to be able to transport it without having to fold it! I'd say this was EXCEPTIONAL service! Great price too! I own a 12 year old Motobecane mountain bike, and I've certainly used it, as Jonathon explained upon initial examination. it needed a complete overhaul and replacement of the derailleurs, shifters, cables, chain and just about everything else was rattled loose. I was very very happy with how Jonathan kept me updated on the unavailability of parts and how he had to re-source comparable components outside of Texas, as my bike had good quality gear and it was expensive to replace (and unavailable), he even tried some in stock items to keep my overall costs down. He finally found the derailleurs in Alaska after running around Houston trying to find them on the shelves of his usual suppliers, and he had other parts shipped in from various vendors across the country.
