This review is more for the Metro Lift service and the main building. If you did not know but Houston Metro has a service call Metro Lift, it is for people who can not drive or walk to the closet bus spot safely. And this service is like ride share app, where they will pick you at the door and drop you off at the door. If you have a wheeler or in wheeler, no problems, you will get you in the vehicle safely and secure you safely. You have to qualify for the service and you have to go through an interview at the main building in downtown. I really appreciation the Metro Lift as it let me be independent on going to places in Houston safely and not relying on family or friends all the time. The downtown main building is also the Downtown Transit Center. You can also buy your Metro Lift paper ticket here and get a new ID here. read more

It can take a bit if your someone getting a discounted fair (I had to transfer balances and a discount from the old Q card to the new one and it took almost 30 minutes) I highly suggest if you need a new Q card, to get it before the old ones phase out and your stuck waiting in line for hours on end. read more

We attempted to go to the July 4 Houston Symphony and fireworks show tonight but were unable to drive into Hermann Park and unable to find a place to park within walking distance, along with many other people. We drove around for a good while and then returned home. There is no notice on Miller Theater's website about the need to arrive early and probably park far from the facility. Nor did Metro provide any extra transportaion capacity for this event. In fact, it ran its very light Sunday schedule instead of its normal Saturday schedule. Nor were any arrangements made with any of the nearby churches that have large empty parking lots.I won't be trying that again. Is that the best we can do? read more

My daughter left her phone in one of the vans on a Friday. Although there was some miscommunication about where it would be on Monday morning (we drove down to the downtown main station to pick it up and it was still at the dispatch location), I will say that Maria, the Supervisor at the dispatch location was happy to help. She even had it delivered to our home rather than them sending it to the Lost and Found at the downtown station and it potentially getting lost or put in the department's box. Say what you will, but that's great customer service and saved us another trip and parking fees! read more

Apologies for missing the deadline for my 6-month Yelp update. I wish I could say I've been hopping off every bus giving each driver a chef's kiss before they pull off to continue delivering superior performance in all ways. Nope. I've been too busy calling in complaints. This morning made gripe #4 since April, 2024. But today I had to submit something in writing because the complaint line is closed on Sundays. Of all my complaints since April, the golden trophy goes to this one moron driving the 25 to Westchase on June 21. He dropped a passenger off at a non-designated stop near the corner of Meadowglen and Walnut Bend Lanes, but didn't stop for me at the official bus stop on Meadowglen near Wilcrest even though I pushed the button in enough time to avoid him having to stop on a dime, and even though I yelled "stop" at him as he was passing Stop #8137. I mean, this fool crossed the intersection of Meadowglen and Wilcrest trying to calm me down because, to him, I was clearly the problem. He probably also couldn't stand me thanking him before I first boarded the bus. I mean for real real. Who the f--k do I think I am? He begrudgingly stopped at Westchase Car Care where I got off the bus and phoned in my complaint. Utter nonsense. read more

I've taken Houston Metro consistently for about 3 years, with the following thoughts. I personally love public transport - I love being able to work (aka sleep) on the bus, and reducing emissions and the amount of cars on the roads (Houston traffic is bad y'all). I like being able to go for happy hour and not worry about getting safely home. Pros: The great thing is that in Houston each bus ride is only $1.25 for 3 hrs including transfers so it's only retry affordable (compared to public transport like SF Bart, that's a steal!) and easily transfers to the light rail. The light rail makes it convenient to get around central Houston quickly and easily. There are some more expensive buses that go farther (like Katy and the park n rides) but still affordable. The park n rides are a great option for those living in the suburbs, who can park their car and take the bus. Another pro is that most of the buses recently have added wifi. Cons: The transport buses in Houston are late, unreliable, and hard to connect to specific places due to the design of the city and it being so spread out. It could take 20 minutes to drive somewhere, and take 2 hrs to bus there. Buses are infrequent as well. The drivers are, for the most part, very kind and helpful so no complaints there. It's definitely hard to live in houston without a car. There's definitely more improvements they can be made, but it's decent for what it is now. read more

I now realize that Metro busses will only tell you what they want you hear but not the truth. I asked that Metro reinstall the bus sign at Lathrop st. They filed a false report stating that I said Broyles and Wallisville and even Kress street. Falsifying the report. Each time they told me it would be anywhere from 3-5 days to 5-7 days,still no bus stop was put there,each time lying. Just to keep me from complaining. Oh,they will let the bus drivers smoke,setting a poor example for people to smoke.This is what they do but complain about people riding the bus for free,even though I don't ride for free. The rudeness of the bus drivers is horrendous. The driver waits till you board the bus then yells at you some unnecessary nonsense. When the driver yells at you it echoes/resounds off the forward interior of the bus creating an ear racking loud sound. The driver is fully aware of this and takes advantage of the opportunity to rattle the customer. This happens more often than you would believe. They are confident to get away with it, the customer will not react because the customer is in the camera. It is a number of black male drivers who perpetrate this abuse and disrespect. And I bet management wonders why the buses are empty. read more

I ride the 244 bus every day into the city and out of the city. In the morning, the driver always on time and I can count on exactly when the bus will be at the park-and-ride and when it will give me to my office. In the evening, it is horrible. The buses do not run on time and I am getting home later and later every day I have sent numerous comments to Houston Metro. No one has bothered to call me back. They all just reply in emails. I highly do not recommend anybody Riding the park-and-ride in the evening from downtown to El Dorado. read more

Metro bus system is horrible. They are never on time. On average I wait 40 min more than what the wait says online. The worst bus by far is the 99. They intentionally get behind the school bus and are always late. The next would be the 56. Half of there hours they drive and the other half of their hours they are on break looking at their cell phone...wow. Also Metro bus workers have the biggest attitudes and are rude. I love this bus service so much that it's making me feel Metro sexual. One of the better bus services in the country. I've ridden NYC, LA, DC, Boston, Miami, and a ton more I can't even think of, and Houston is up there with my favourites. It's not as cheap as I think it should be, but then most bus services in major cities aren't. One of the best features of the Houston Metro is the awesome train that runs from the University area to downtown and if they could expand that to other parts of the city it'd be even better. Also Houston could use a really extensive subway system to ease the loads on its overstuffed highways. Most of the drivers are super friendly (and hit on my friend a lot, but then her pink hair is part of it), most of the buses are on time, and they send text updates to tell you when the bus is going to be along. read more

I don't know what y'all are upset about. You have be a real public transit freak in order to appreciate it. Being a Houston business owner from California I still use this transit agency even though I rent some really nice cars every time I go to Houston. The last trip I took was in 2018 when I wanted drop by my office after working a temp service job in California. I saw nothing wrong with the 228 bus because it does a good job of taking me to downtown then back to my hotel area at around 6:30pm. My services don't close until 8pm but I usually get on the bus early because I enjoy the ride. I love the HTX Metro's commuters coaches because they are spacious and comfortable. The other bus I like is the 82 Westheimer, it's a nice bus route that goes through some fine neighborhoods. read more

Drivers are absolutely TRASH. They can't take a turn without jumping the curve. They run past people waiting when they're running late and don't mind leaving people desperately trying to catch the bus. Too many will absentmindedly keep going when you request a stop. Is it standard to leave people waiting on the bus while they grab their lunch? Honestly are there any standards at all? This is a tough review to write because I'd like to write a better review of Houston Metro. While the population of the Big 3 in the U.S. remains somewhat stable, the population of Houston, America's 4th largest, continues to climb. And, in the 2000s, Houston finally decided to embark on light rail service in addition to its bus service. The main line of the Metro train system is the Red line. It's an important one because it links downtown to the Museum District, Rice University, the Texas Medical Center, and the Astrodome-Reliant Park. Two other lines - the Green and the Purple - meander eastward from downtown and reach some closer-in neighborhoods. The Green line ends it run in Magnolia Park and the Purple line veers in a slightly different direction and serves the UH campus, of which overly intense Elizabeth Warren is an alumna. The bus system is vast. The only buses I know of numerically are the 82, the 102, and the 246, I believe. They service important Westheimer Rd., the Houston-Bush airport, and the Space Center, way down south of town, respectively. The fare is but a mere $1.25 and they advertise that a lot. That's because Houstonians who slog through living in this vast city and use it to get to jobs that aren't high paying, such that they can't afford cars, really do need it and this certainly helps. The buses ply the city's wide boulevards and seem to do the job. They are less adept at servicing the outer suburbs and those park and ride lots, running only in the morning and in the evening. Note that a few routes actually reach some suburbs and park and ride lots immediately outside the Harris County line, in places such as Montgomery County and Galveston County. That's good and should be expanded. The reason that Houston Metro doesn't garner that much enthusiasm from me is because, for a city its size, the light rail system is weak and, again, for a city its size, it's light rail and not heavy rail, as is the case in Atlanta, for example. Except for the Red line's route, other important urban nodes are not addressed. There were diagrams of a proposed extension that would connect the main Red Line from Wheeler Junction via a new line out to the Galleria and Uptown. I no longer see that on their site. But I see all sorts of new bus and BRT options they are proposing. That a city's first and second downtown (the Galleria area), sitting right out at the first ring road around the city, are not connected is suboptimal and behind the 8 ball. Please go down, or next to, Richmond, put it up on a trestle, or put it underground. They've done studies and the white collar crowd (to further increase ridership) is amenable to riding trains. As for BRT, I'm not so sure. Anyone should be able to get from downtown out to the Galleria area quickly and via train. Traveling on the Houston Metrorail can stimulate the senses! This is Houston, hence not the Texas you think you know. The international level of diversity now in this area is staggering and you'll notice it on the transit system, and wherever you go. Neither of the airports are reachable via rail, which is sort of understandable because they are far from the city center. Bus line 102 goes from downtown to Bush Intercontinental, but it uses Interstate 45 rather than the less congested parallel toll road. Maybe that's to preserve the $1.25 fare. (I know that it goes around Greenspoint and Outer Loop hotels near IAH and makes some stops.) However, it looks like the Magnolia Park rail line is the more likely candidate to reach an airport by extending it to Houston Hobby, giving both this airport and the area around it a boost. Using the Houston Metro system is inexpensive and there are also loadable transit cards one can purchase. A day card exists, costing under $5. However, if you are at an airport or even downtown, you can't get it that readily, nor from a ticket machine. You need to visit select merchants or, if downtown, the Ridestore. I bought my first day pass several years ago at the orange colored Fiesta Store at Wheeler Junction. (That was sort of an adventure in and of itself, and not one I'll easily forget ... not because anything went sideways, but because it was very trippy.) At the very least, make the day passes available at the airports. There is so much to say about Houston Metro that is both commendable and that points to improvement that is needed. It's better to start on service improvements and expansion earlier than later, and do it right, rather than later complain that it should have been done this way or that way. read more

If I could give zero stars I honestly would. Let me start by saying the 161 route sucks! They bus was kate YET AGAIN today and by late I mean 35 minutes behind schedule. It doesn't matter which way the bus is going the bus is almost ALWAYS late. During the afternoon hours the eastbound bus is usually so late that people have to wait for up to or over an hour. It's ridiculous. I've filed several of complaints and even offered a suggestion. Metro seems to look at your complaint and throw it out. I always speak to bus drivers to see what's really going on and this seems to be more of systematic issue rather than a driver issue though some drivers are careless and seem to hate their jobs. The ones I have talked to love their jobs but not the system. In no way should the bus on a certain route be late EVERY DAMN DAY no matter the time. I have heard that some drivers could care less about being on time. These are the drivers that speed people and have the ugliest attitudes and when passengers complain about them being absolutely late they blame the passengers for their carelessness and lateness. I've had a driver pull off WHILE I was getting off the bus. Yes youbread that right she started to drive WHILE I was exiting the bus. Metro DO BETTER. There are good drivers out there but they are overshadowed by a messed up system and rude drivers. read more

Buses are ALWAYS late. One thing that kept me from giving them 1 or even no stars is their local bus fare at $1.25 which is the cheapest I've ever seen. Other than that, they need to be more frequent, update their buses, and buses need to be on time and no more than 5 minutes late and no buses leaving before its arrival time read more

I road the bus 44 acres home today and it was horrible. the bus had a bad smell and trash throughout it. also the bus driver was very late starting her shift. she didn't show up until 4:45 at st Joesph and Travis. then once we made it to Yale and crosstimbers she got off the bus and went inside the gas station for about 10 minutes. what these bus drivers don't understand for us this is our only means of transportation and some of us has two jobs or have to make it at a place at a certain time. these bus drivers does whatever they want to. I remember when I had jury service and my best option to get to and from my area was to use the park and ride. I'm thinking what a quick easy way to get to Downtown area from the Southbelt area. Although, the Metro bus ride was simple and the ride was smooth, however the bus drivers are probably the most rudest individuals you'll ever meet in the public transportation industry of Houston. Now that beats the people who work for the DMV, the people who work at the Social Security place and even occasionally the people who work at some vet offices. These drivers must really hate their life. From all the 13 days, I rode the bus I only received one friendly nice driver that was willing to communicate with me. He greeted me as I walked onto the bus and I left the bus. He was a sweet guy. On the other hand, those others you can forget about asking them about a specific spot or how certain things work. If you aren't sure about your stop, don't ask because these individuals will laugh at you and then rudely say, "how am I supposed to know?!" Like WTF? On Thursday at 2:35 I tried to get a Q card with $5. at the transfer center behind Walmart in Westpark Dr, and the machine didn't give me the card, I called the costumer service but 2 minutes after 5pm, and refused to help me. I talked today a person in the transfer center and told me can't do nothing and advice me to call again the costumer service. You know what? your service is a disaster, that station is ugly, dark and stinks like dead animal since you opened, the card machine doesn't work neither, and all of you are horrible. Searched on line to take bus to work. There used to be three bus routes and now there is only one bus route number 63. You have to walk over half mile to take the bus. There was a lack of planning and consideration because I have heard them do the same thing for other routes as well. I can walk it for now. However why would they purposely discouraged the elderly, disabled,and families with kids from riding the bus? Since I would need to take two buses each day instead of paying $1.25 each way equals $2.50, now I would pay a whopping $5 daily. I only live 13 miles from downtown. By bus I used to be able to arrive in 45 minutes. Now, it takes 1 hour and 10 minutes. It appears they lack funding and they are trying to pay off the overpriced system. There is rumor circling around that any written complaints submitted are thrown away. Better ways to improve system is visiting other successful public commuter cities, riding the current system and see how to improve it, getting metro to visit with current riders and ask for input and also getting a trial run for riders to test it out for free prior to running it live. For a "big" city our transit system needs work. The main problem with the system is unlike many other heavily populated cities where people actually live in the city, Houstonians are spread out. You do have some people who live in the city but the majority live out in the suburbs. This proves to be a huge challenge carrying people as far as the cypress to spring to missouri city to westchase and all the stuff in between. Another problem with our transit is there are certain areas where you just can't take public transportation. Areas like Sugarland just don't allow it. This makes people who want to visit have to own a car or rent one. Other complaints are the maintenance of the vehicles. Most of the time the AC is whack and you spend it sweating but other times the AC is on full blast and you're probably getting sick from the sweat cooling off too fast. I had to take the bus when my car was in the shop and it was a huge pain. Not only was the bus schedule totally off, sometimes you could be skipped 2 scheduled times before it would come by. And Houston drivers hate buses. They constantly cut them off and the trip takes longer because they miss a lot of light cycles. The drivers seem to hate their job as much as the riders dislike riding it. This makes for a terrible trip. The only redeeming factor of the Houston metro is the metrorail. It's very limited but it does it's job. Transfers people from the downtown area to and from reliant stadium and everything in between. Frequent stops are the medical center and the museum district. It gives some flexibility towards where you want to park. Also another plus is the addition of the Q card. Its like a debit card that is quick and easy to use. They card can be recharged and saves a lot of time dealing with paying for your fare. I use it tap and hop on without ever worrying about exact change. If you don't own a car this is basically your only option, it's not great but it tries it's best to make due with such an overwhelming working area. read more

Houston traffic is awful. A good mass transportation system would make the congestion less of a problem. Enter Houston Metro. While the Metro system works for a small number of people, it doesn't cater to most commuters throughout the city. If you are going to very specific destinations, the bus system can keep you out of the driver's seat and away from the stress of navigating through traffic. But if you're out of the major line of service, it is a big hassle. Using the Park and Ride to downtown is great - you can read a book and sit on the bus on the HOV lane. If you work somewhere else, though, the bus changes will make you dizzy. Plus, the HOV on Interstate 10 still only goes in one direction at certain times of the day so you have to plan your travel around those times. Other cities have train systems that cater to workers living in the suburbs but Houston just has the light rail that runs the line from Reliant Stadium to Downtown. Don't get me wrong, the rail is nice but it doesn't work for most people laboring throughout the city. I look forward to the day the HOV and the rail expands and serves more people in a meaningful way. Once they get the service working for a larger number of people I think we'll see the congestion lift and traffic snarls decrease a bit. Until then, there are only a few park and ride options which is a pity for an urban area as spread out as Houston. read more
