Beware. I don't recommend doing business with this company. Do your research and ask for a quote in advance. They are very expensive and charged $430 for a 15-minute service to change a simple battery. Terrible! I first thought Don is a nice guy, we talked on Friday and he agreed to come out Monday. I asked to call me an hour before so that I can be there. On Monday I was not getting a phone call so I called him but he did not answer. An hour later he called and said his technician Mike is there but he forgot to call. I told him I really need to be there to make sure my remotes work once he is done, he said Mike can not wait and he will just start without me. I really thought he was a nice a guy so I was like ok. I left my house to head over to the property, Mike apparently finished and could not wait, I told him I am only 15 minutes away and I asked in advance to be there. Once I arrived gate worked for 5 minutes then stopped, I tested all the remotes and when I wanted to get out none of the remotes worked. I immediately called Mike to tell him, I also told him that gate is hitting the metal post and that in the past that was adjusted, he said he can come back or even better just put weather strip to protect it. Like what in the world, technicians in the past just set it so that it does not do that. I told Mike that something is not right because its now not opening. I got busy and did not call Don, I assumed Mike was coming the next day to check. Next day I get this incredible rude text from Don after I told him its not working: Don "You need to schedule another call out????" Me "I need someone to come and see why is gate not working" Don "You said it was working, PAY YOUR INVOICE" Me " I called Mike and told him, I will pay when someone looks at it" Don "You don't call my technician you call me" I then called him, and we were both upset, I said I just need someone to come out, and he started yelling that he is suing me and just being horrible. I do not talk to people like that so I hung up. I never said I am not going to pay, I just said I need someone to come and complete the job, gate is not working and its hitting the post which should have been addressed immediately. After that he was the meanest person I encountered in my life, calling me names and just being horrible. He called me low life, not sure how am I a low life when he is the one refusing to provide service and is demanding payment in such terrible way for work that was not done. I did not want anything from him at that point so I decided to pay even though he did not complete the job. I asked for a link he said he will send me certified letter, I asked him is he well because I just said let me pay and never speak to you. He went on to offend me in emails, he called me a cow, he told me to fuck off. This all happened because I told him I never want to work with him, and that he overcharged me, my invoice was $315 and he said CC has 3.9 charge, I told him my bill came to be $327 and that he overcharged me. He wrote "3.9 percent processing fee charged by Chase. Not my money. Damn, your a crazy ass cow" I told him he did not specify 3.9 was a %, and that there is no reason to be rude he said "Fuck Off !!!" This person is the rudest person I encountered. My husband had used this company more than 20 years ago to install our rear security gate. It lasted well and only needed 1 adjustment in over 20 years. So now when the gate opener was old and no longer made, I used them to replace the old opener. The installation went fine initially, but in in 2- 3 weeks, the gate started hitting the new control box that they installed and alarming. After only a couple of days, they came out and cut a number of the lower fence bars to reduce the problem at no cost. This helped for a couple of months. This time the gate was hitting the plastic housing of the control box. This time it took over a month to get them to come out. They finally came out after the gate froze after hitting the box and blowing a fuse, blocking a car inside the gate. They came out to cut a bar on the gate. This time I received an invoice of $620 to fix i the install. I told Don that I thought the charge is was high and I though it should not be charged since it was correcting a problem with the initial install. Don texted that "What you consider high is of no consequence, pay or I'll lien the property". I decided to pay and detail the experience. Don got me scheduled quickly and Mike came out and repaired my gate controls. test wires, repaired some connections and got it working great. i will call them again if anything goes wrong. Mike is really knowledgeable. I would recommend them. read more

When my gate started malfunctioning the guy that installed the opener (different company, not Houston Security Gates) would not respond to my calls and texts. I tried another company and the guy that came out told me what he thought it needed, then never contacted me again! The third company I called only repaired gate openers that they installed. What the heck, I just wanted my gate fixed! Evidently a lot of companies only want to install new gate openers and are not interested in doing repair work. Very frustrating. Someone in my neighborhood facebook group recommended Houston Security Gates. The technician came out when he said he would, diagnosed what was wrong and told me how he would fix it. Received the quote, approved it online, and the technician came out shortly after. I didn't even have to be there and he had it done in a few hours. He did a great job and my gate now works properly! January 5, 2024 called HSG to fix my gate opener to my driveway. They came out the same day put in a new battery and charged me $335.00. A few days later my gate stopped opening, I texted Don Currey (owner) he asked to please text my address, I did and assumed someone would be coming to fix the opener. Two weeks went by no one ever came. I texted him again stating the opener is still not fixed, it has an error message SYSTEM OVERLOAD. He text back saying I can give you a quote for a new opener. I text back saying I just paid $335.00 less than a month ago because your tech said all we needed was a new battery and our system in only 3 years old. Do not want quote want my opener to work that I paid for. He didn't text back. Next day I text again asking is your guy coming today. He text back we do new installs on Wednesday and Thursday probably Friday. I text Friday morning he said I am on the schedule today. No one comes on Friday. I text Saturday asking if they are gonna fix my opener today he text back we do not work weekends. The reason for the text and not calling was my calls went to voice mail so I started texting to get my concerns heard. I'm very frustrated that this company came out the day I called which was a blessing but the work they did only fixed my gate for a few days so obviously it was not the battery and to be charged $335.00 to fix my gate and have it only work a few days is a rip off. Today I called two gate repair companies because the security gate into our town home community stopped working. One company said the gears in the motor were stripped and we needed new unit. Cost $3800. Don, with Houston Security Gates, then took a look. Opened the unit and said it was operating perfectly. The problem was with the arm on the gate. $140 dollars later gate was fixed! He explained how the unit operated, cleaned it and helped us program a few remotes. He was also here within an hour of my call. So thankful to find an honest helpful company. Don not only overcharged ($140) us for the gate "repair", he had no clue on how or why it was doing what it was doing. His attempt to "fix it" caused more severe damage to the gate arm. When we called him to "fix" his repair, he wanted to charge us $500 for a new circuit board (which was not the problem according to the company we ultimately used) or to put in an entire new system to the tune of $1600- 2200. The company we used for the repair charged $120 to fix the problem and to fix Don's "dirty work." Stay away from this company. read more

This is a company I would NEVER do business with again. !! I hired Houston Security Gates on December 18, 2017 to replace my chain and install a new control board in my ELITE gate system. I paid them $800.00 before they were finished-trusting them on their word. The repair lasted one day. It stopped working. I could not get them to respond (text and phone calls) until after the holidays. Don returned (after many days of pleading and non response) and made adjustment and again the repair lasted one day. The control board was never replaced. They have not responded to any phone or emails since. I would never recommend them for anything. Especially anything remotely having to do with gate repair. Dishonesty is a horrible trait. The check I paid them cleared the bank. I have hired a reputable company to install a completely new system and and very happy with their product and service. read more

Terrible. They were hard to get in touch with, hard to get to come out to my house, and when they did show up they replaced one part but fried another one. They tried to charge me to fix the part they broke because it was a separate issue. The invoice they left me was illegible and had no address to which I could send money, and 72 hours after they were at my house they sent me a text message saying they were going to get a lawyer to file a lien on my house for the value of the parts. That's right, they threatened legal action because they hadn't received a check 3 days from when they performed the work. They don't respond to phone calls and barely respond to texts. In short, they're rude, unprofessional, and pretty bad at fixing gates. I ended up calling Lone Legacy Gates (highly recommended), which diagnosed which part they broke (over the phone for free, saving me a service charge) and fixed it promptly. Stay away from these guys, they are truly the worst. read more

Don, was not helpful at all in diagnosing my gate problems and I agreed to have a new system put in. He was hard to get a hold of and did not get back at all on some issues. I was not given the owners' manuals and he still not provided them. I have contacted another Company to demonstrate some adjustments to the opener and to add a part so that my cars' remotes can be programed to the new opener. read more

I love when matters of unexpected home maintenance are simply and quickly resolved. Don, from Houston Security Gates/Houston Gate Repair, offered just that when he came by today to investigate our sluggish gate. In under an hour, he had our gate working like new. I should mention that I first called Don on Friday. He promised to try to make it over that day. Unfortunately, his other appointments ran long eating up his day.
